How to trim the rear axle of a VAZ for a mini tractor?

The spring cup is cut off and the end flange is removed.
Part of the removed axle shaft is cut off, and a groove is made from the edge.
A hole is drilled inside the cup.
We dock and center the axle shafts, weld them according to the drawings.
We insert the finished part into the bridge.
We weld the bridge on both sides.
Welding seams must be of high quality. At the end of the welding work, the seams are heated and cooled several times.
We attach the bridge to the frame using a V-shaped structure.

✔ Do not attempt to bore channels. This operation can be performed in the absence of ball cutters, but in garage conditions nothing will work even with cutters. . The idea is simple - cars prepared according to the requirements of those years are allowed to participate, i.e. 30 years or more. Naturally, we did not stand aside. So what can you make from a classic VAZ engine? This is what I will try to talk about using real examples.

Professional engine tuning for commercial projects or for Motorsports - the principle is the same, but the goals are different. Preparing an engine for racing, it seems to me, is a simpler task. There is only one task here, to make the unit as powerful as possible, but within the technical requirements, so to speak in a nutshell. Modifying an engine for civilian use, here it is necessary to solve issues not only with power, but also with a bunch of problems that you don’t pay attention to when preparing a racing engine (idling, sound of the exhaust system, fuel consumption, elasticity, etc., etc. ). Any serious changes start from the head, and when working on fine-tuning a classic engine, it was necessary to start with the cylinder head (cylinder head).

To do this, we bought 4 brand new cylinder heads, and the work began. It is simply impossible to fine-tune the cylinder head without a purge stand (at least I don’t know how and I can’t do it). At that time, we had not yet assembled our blowing stand, and this was my first experience of working with classics. Therefore, I called an old friend of mine who has such a stand, and he is also one of the few who is a really great specialist in finishing cylinder heads - Dmitry Zaitsev h3o28, agreed on a date and went to see him in our northern capital, the glorious city of St. Petersburg. After two days of work at the stand, we received preliminary results that could already be used to calculate future projects.

Why all this trouble? I suggest you look at the result; first, blow off a standard classic cylinder head - the maximum value at lift is 11.5mm 119 CFM.

Depending on the assigned tasks, the approach to modifying the cylinder head is different. For example, when developing a solution for Chevy Niva (civilian use), the main task was to improve torque and not go to high speeds. Therefore, the minimum cross-section in the channels remained standard; if we increased them, we would lose the lows, and this is exactly what this car really needs. As a result, in the latest version of the cylinder head, we increased the air flow by more than 20% without changing the minimum cross-section in the channels, which determines at what speed the maximum torque will be.

Of course, I will not post the results of purging and the main parameters that were changed in the combat heads, let this remain our little secret, but I will definitely show the results of measurements on the stand at some races.

Naturally, for a modified cylinder head it is necessary to calculate the camshaft (one for each task), as well as the exhaust and intake system. If we are talking about civilian operation, then we need traction. Therefore, a long exhaust manifold was designed and manufactured for the Chevrolet Niva. U-power and I spent about a month searching for the optimal solution.

Tuning an 8 valve engine “with split gear”

The split, that is, adjustable gear was not used in the last project. It is better to install it on “non-plug-in motors”. Setting method: 1.
The moving and fixed parts are marked with a mark, the same as on a standard pulley;

Installation is carried out in the usual manner, aligning the crankshaft and timing mechanism according to the marks (as when replacing a belt), you should also remember about the correct tightening torque of the belt;
3.
If in the 4th cylinder the intake and exhaust valves are not open “to the maximum”, we carry out the adjustment: loosen the outer screws, and, holding the outer part of the gear, set the camshaft correctly. Tighten the fixing screws.
