Conveyor belt tracks

To assemble the track kit, you can use a conveyor belt 8 - 10 mm thick and a bushing-roller chain. Be sure to sew the edges of the ribbon with fishing line to strengthen it and avoid fraying. Use a blanket stitch. The hinge can be used to connect the ends of the tape. Connection by stitching can also be used, but the reliability will be questionable. In general, this design inspires confidence in terms of reliability and can be easily repaired.

Also, tracks can be made from a conveyor belt using a rectangular profile pipe. To do this, you must first give the tracks the required shape using a pressing machine. You can use nuts and bolts to secure the tracks to the tape. We will look at this technology in more detail. You will need the following tools and materials:

  • pressing machine;
  • hammer and set of keys;
  • hole puncher;
  • drill, angle grinder and welding machine;
  • fittings and profile pipe;

  1. Taking into account the width of the track being made, use a grinder to cut the track blanks.
  2. Press the workpieces on the machine to give them the required shape, use waste oil to lubricate the ends.
  3. Weld fangs-limiters onto each track and additionally V-shaped fittings at the top.
  4. At the track installation site, check the correct dimensions.
  5. Use an industrial hole punch to create holes in the conveyor belt. You can make such a hole punch yourself - it will be a tube sharpened at the end with a side hole for removing rubber waste.
  6. Drill two holes in the tracks on each edge.
  7. At the final stage, you will be assembled the caterpillar.

Caterpillars made from car tires

If you decide to use car tires to make tracks, you should choose them with the appropriate tread pattern, which will replace the lugs. Tires from tractors or trucks will do. Carefully remove the tire beads using a well-sharpened shoe knife. Periodically wet the blade in soapy water to make cutting easier.

If you have the skills to use an electric jigsaw, you can use this tool in tandem with a fine-toothed file.

To achieve the required level of elasticity, several layers of the inner ring can be removed. Compared with the first option (conveyor belt + bush-roller chain), car tires are more reliable, since the contour of the ring in this case is closed and the ends do not need to be connected.

R&D "Typhoon" "Ural-Typhoon" is a new generation automotive platform.

Experimental design development (R&D) for the project is a continuation of the federal project "Garage-2.1", closed by the Ministry of Defense in 2008, and the initiative developments of leading Russian enterprises OJSC "Avtomobilny" (project "Motovoz") and OJSC "KAMAZ" (project " Mustang"). Currently, work is being carried out in three directions. Protected frame and box vehicles, as well as multi-purpose vehicles, are being created.

Today, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has been offered options for a new vehicle from two and OJSC Ural. The Miass Automobile Plant offered two versions of the car: modular and case-based. “Ural-63095” is a multi-purpose vehicle (modular version) designed for transporting personnel, cargo in replaceable modules, towing trailers in front-line zones, directly in combat zones and in areas of counter-terrorism operations on off-road and on various types of roads.

"Ural-63099" (hull version), which has a single-volume body, is intended for use as a command post and reconnaissance vehicle. It is also used as a chassis for special vehicles when transporting material and personnel, escort vehicles for convoys and ambulances, fire support vehicles and for conducting radiation, chemical and biological reconnaissance.

Design. Much of the design of the Ural-65095 was introduced from the latest development of the Research Institute of Steel, the Bear project. "Ural" is an all-wheel drive three-axle vehicle equipped with bullet-resistant run-flat tires with variable internal pressure and automatic inflation, an automatic transmission and a powerful diesel engine. The car has a frame structure, controlled suspension (with a hydraulic clearance control system and pneumohydraulic elastic elements), special armor and mine protection adequate to the requirements of today. It is equipped with a special on-board information and control system designed for operational diagnostics and control of the main units and components of the Typhoon, as well as a satellite navigation system combined with GLONASS. Moreover, the latter automatically informs the higher management level about the location of the machine. The Ural-65095 provides the ability to fire from personal weapons through special loopholes and remote fire from a machine gun mounted on the roof of the truck (a universal turret of a remotely controlled weapons module). The module for personnel has emergency escape hatches on the roof. In normal mode, entry is through three doors (two side and one rear) and a folding ramp. The crew cabin is also fully armored, designed for three people and has a berth. It has two special screens that the driver uses to control the car in cases where the windshield is damaged and it is covered with a special armored curtain.

"Ural-63099" is a classic version of the vehicle, which has the international designation MRAP Caiman. It has a hood layout, which is considered most relevant in case of explosions. When an anti-tank mine is triggered under the front wheels, the engine breaks, the axle comes off, but the cabin is not damaged. And the connection of the driver’s cabin and the functional module into a single unit is a significant advantage in a combat situation.

The combined frontal armor protection of the Typhoon series vehicles (the engine itself, armored radiator shutters, the radiator itself, the armored hood, the pre-cabin armor panel) guarantees protection even from a 30 mm projectile. The Typhoon's armor provides a level of protection unprecedented for domestic general-purpose vehicles. The new armor protects personnel from damage from several armor-piercing B-32 14.5 mm bullets at a distance of 200 m, which fully complies with the NATO standard STANAG 4569 Level 4. It could only be achieved using armored steel (but in this case the vehicle would become excessively heavy ) or using composite armor, which until recently was considered an excessively expensive solution. Especially considering the fact that Russian ceramic armor until recently did not fully meet the requirements for it. However, on the Typhoons, the armor is entirely Russian-made, both its steel component and armored ceramic. Varying the level of protection is achieved through frame-panel architecture and spacing out the armor structure.

Double-glazed windows made of special armored glass are also manufactured in our country. 1 m2 of such glass, 130 mm thick, weighs almost 300 kg. It completely protects against fire from the KPVT (Vladimirov tank heavy machine gun). And to protect against small-caliber artillery, the glass is covered with special drop-down shutters. In this case, the review is carried out through video cameras.

The design of the "Uralov" protects personnel from mine explosions, including anti-tank mines, with a total TNT equivalent of up to 8 kg under any part of the special V-shaped bottom or wheel. The functional module for accommodating motorized riflemen is equipped with special mine-resistant seats that are attached to the wall or ceiling, removable headrests, and seat belts. All this practically neutralizes the catastrophic effect of the consequences of the explosion on the spine. To protect the legs, a specially designed floor with double shock absorption and multi-point fastening belts are used. The weapons are in special holders. And the air conditioner and filter ventilation unit allow you to create comfortable conditions inside the compartment.
