In Russia, earth-moving equipment is sold both locally produced and supplied from Japan. In 2014, the Hitachi plant was opened in the Tver region, which produces five models of hydraulic excavators: ZX180LCN-5G, ZX200-5G, ZX240-5G, ZX280-5G, ZX330-5G. All other models are imported.
In the production of excavators in Tver, key components (engine, hydraulic system, electrical components) made in Japan are used. At the same time, a sufficient number of components were localized. The next step was taken this year - in the spring, a procurement shop was opened, where sheet steel is now cut, bent and prepared for the welding stage. Booms, handles, rotary platforms and running frames for excavators are made from this steel. This made it possible to localize another stage of production. It is also important that the rolled metal comes from local suppliers. “We strive to develop partnerships with Russian manufacturers, so we already receive some components of our excavators from local enterprises,” the company noted.

The Hitachi ZX200 features a 5.68m boom and 2.91m arm with increased tractive effort and slewing torque. In the excavator, Japanese engineers have improved motion control, as a result of which the speed of the equipment’s motor is automatically increased when performing maneuvers or lifting, when more traction force is needed.
The dimensions of the upper support roller brackets and the support rollers themselves on the ZX200 model have been increased, which has a positive effect on its durability. To give greater rigidity, Hitachi specialists changed the shape and strengthened the track links. again, thanks to the larger box-section frames and improved construction, the central X-beam was also strengthened. This added 35% to the strength. The top and bottom plates of the excavator's X-beam are made of solid plates instead of traditional welded plates, which significantly strengthens the central frame.
Maintenance
Service intervals for the Hitachi ZX200-5G have been increased from 250 to 500 operating hours. Improvements have also been made to the ergonomics of the cabin: the location of the control levers has been changed, additional compartments have appeared, legroom has been increased, etc.
The Global e-Service remote monitoring system is available for Hitachi machines, providing data on each piece of equipment about its technical and operational condition, maintenance and location. Another service is Consite. With its help, information about the operation of the machine is summarized and monthly reports are generated with a detailed analysis of operational parameters. Hitachi ZX200 is equipped with an automatic transmission that allows you to choose the speed of movement. The excavator is equipped with a hydraulic disc-type parking brake. The filter and oil change intervals in this model are increased, which reduces the financial and time costs of the owner.
The Hitachi ZX200 is equipped with an advanced operator cabin with an on-board computer, a comfortable seat, a radio, air conditioning and joystick-style controls.
It should be noted that the Hitachi ZX200 is an “advanced” technology. Some work processes in the excavator are partially automated. These include the traction control function described above and the optimal end-of-stroke system. The latter includes a special safety valve mounted in the travel hydraulic motor. Hitachi ZX200 cannot be classified as a budget excavator. The cost of the model is 3.5-4 million rubles. True, taking into account the price-quality ratio, this amount is not so large, since this machine quite quickly justifies the money invested in it.
Modifications of Hitachi ZX200-5G
The company's line includes several main types of Hitachi models:
- basic;
- with an extended undercarriage (designation LC) for work where less ground pressure is required;
- narrow-size (LCN) - narrow chassis (overall width does not exceed 2,500 mm) significantly simplifies transportation on public roads and maneuvering equipment around the site in limited space;
- for severe operating conditions (H), equipped with reinforced working and attachment equipment, additional protective and reinforced elements, a weighted counterweight;
- for dismantling work (K) with pipelines for additional attachments, reinforced working and attachment equipment, additional protective guards and reinforced elements, additional wiper blades and a full-flow filter;
- for heavy duty use with Long Undercarriage (LCH).
Excavator modifications: ZX210K-5G, ZX200-5G and ZX210H-5G
For each model there are several modifications depending on the type of installed working and attachment equipment:
- (SA) - shortened handle with a larger bucket;
- (LA) - extended handle with a smaller bucket;
- (B) / (C) / (D) - various types of buckets other than standard ones.
Russian-made models are available in Standard, LC (long wheelbase), LCH (strengthened version) modifications. All these models can be prepared for work in cold climates (from -40 to +40?). The plant produces models with expanded standard equipment compared to those imported from Japan. A rear view camera and additional lights on the cab are included in the standard equipment package, and additional hydraulic piping for working with a hydraulic hammer, track shoes (from 600 to 800 mm depending on the machine version), and buckets of different sizes and designs are optionally available. Gradually, the plant is developing new options based on requests from customers in Russia and the CIS.

Also in the Hitachi line there are hybrid excavators, which differ from previous models in lower toxicity of exhaust gases and greater efficiency. This technique is gaining popularity in Japan, Europe and Australia, where the cost of fuel is much higher than here. For these countries, purchasing hybrids is a profitable investment in the long term. “Most likely, as control over exhaust emissions and fuel quality increases, these excavators will become interesting in Russia,” explained representatives of the manufacturer.
Operator's cabin
The Hitachi ZX200-5G cab is ergonomic and comfortable, with plenty of free space that does not restrict the operator's movement. The console is now smaller and provides more legroom. The door pillar has been moved back 7 cm, which allows for a wider door to be installed and provides increased comfort.
The limit switch on the door reacts to opening, and the light in the cabin turns on. The front window can be raised to the ceiling position and fixed thanks to the installation of guides. There is also a window in the cabin roof that provides the necessary air flow inside. The air conditioning system includes air ducts rationally distributed throughout the cabin. This makes it possible to quickly create the necessary microclimate.
Control elements – levers and panel – are installed in close proximity to the operator. The standard package includes the installation of an audio recorder; an optional AUX connector is installed on it for the possibility of connecting a portable player. These benefits ensure operator comfort throughout the working day and reduce operator fatigue.
The operator's chair has a headrest and armrests, the upholstery is made of fabric. It can be adjusted - moving forward and backward, tilting the backrest. Moving the seat back as far as possible opens up more legroom for the driver. Air suspension and heated seats are options.
The cabin is highly durable and OPG compliant. It is equipped with a FOPS safety system that protects the operator from falling objects from a height. The hydraulic system locking device does not allow the engine to start until the lever is set in the “Lock” position, i.e. blocked. A password lock function is used as an anti-theft system.

Attachments
To increase the service life of the Hitachi ZX200-5G boom mechanism, the following are provided:
- reinforced head and base;
- installation of thickened brackets made of high-alloy steel, which has high strength;
- installation of steel bushings on brackets.
The hydraulic cylinders of the handle and boom unit are equipped with dampers, which reduce noise and increase the durability of these elements.
The articulated fingers of the main organs are characterized by a tight fit, which eliminates play and knocking. They are protected by tungsten coating in friction areas, which increases the wear resistance of the part. Modernly developed HN bushings are filled with grease, thereby increasing their service life without the need for service work. A reinforced rubber thrust plate is installed on the finger of a standard working body. It is highly wear-resistant; its installation reduces noise when the joint wears out.
The torque of the platform was increased, which resulted in an increase in the cutting force of the working element into the material, and ensured smooth rotation of the platform while working on a slope.
The capacity of the working body varies from 0.51 m3 to 1.2 m3.

Chassis
The Hitachi ZX 200 excavator is equipped with hydraulic drives, which increase the operating speed of equipment components and the speed when overcoming inclines.
The gearbox is installed manually, gear shifting is carried out by an electric motor. The system includes two main modes - high and low speed. There is no standard transmission installed on the excavator, and the system provides the ability to travel at speeds of up to 5.5 km/h at high speeds and up to 3.6 km/h at low speeds. The equipment is equipped with two batteries of 12 V and 55 Ah.
The permissible tilt angle of the Hitachi ZX 200 is 35 degrees; if transportation involves overcoming large slopes, additional equipment is used.
