Gasoline does not flow into the carburetor of the Husqvarna chainsaw

Why does the chainsaw immediately stall and wobble when you press the gas?

Chainsaws are fairly reliable and lightweight designs.
Therefore, if you properly care for them and handle them based on the manufacturer’s advice, then they fail very rarely and various types of breakdowns are quickly eliminated. But if you are faced with this situation and want to repair your own instrument yourself, without resorting to the help of experts, then delve into the information presented below. In fact, it is absolutely and precisely impossible to find the reason why the tool does not start or stalls when you press the gas, because there are quite a few reasons that influence this. But we should not forget that, starting from the fact that the chainsaw is armed with a conventional two-stroke engine, such conditions as lubrication, fuel, spark and air are important for its effective performance.

As follows, it is the carburetor that produces the fuel-air mixture, the filter cleans the air from dust, the ignition unit and spark plug produce a spark, and the gasoline contains lubricant.

That is why it is necessary to search for the circumstances of this kind of breakdown in order, starting specifically from the easy ones and gradually moving on to the complex ones. And this is a fundamental factor in proper repair, because the person who, without thinking about it, begins to disassemble the carburetor, puts it at risk. Because this kind of unit must be repaired or adjusted specifically in special workshops (read about carburetor adjustment).

Algorithm for checking the crankcase for leaks

  • Remove the side cover and bar from the chainsaw.
  • Unscrew the spark plug and insert a string with knots into the cylinder through the spark plug hole, thereby stopping the movement of the piston and crankshaft.
  • As a cord with knots, you can use an old cord from a starter, tying knots on it every 3-5 cm.
  • Unscrew the driven chainsaw sprocket.
  • Remove the oil pump cover and the pump itself.
  • Remove the starter from the chainsaw.
  • Unscrew and remove the flywheel.
  • Remove the carburetor.
  • Using a syringe, through the hole under the carburetor in the cylinder, pour gasoline into the crankcase, while keeping an eye on the crankshaft seals. If gasoline flows through them, it means the seals have become unusable and need to be replaced with new ones.
  • It is better to entrust the installation of oil seals to experts.

What you need to repair Husqvarna with your own hands

To carry out self-repair of a Husqvarna saw, you need to have several specific tools that you can buy in specialized stores or make yourself. First of all you may need:

Tip: When repairing any gas-powered tools, it is convenient to use a medical clamp and tweezers. You will also need a set of sockets, a slotted screwdriver and a set of Torx wrenches.

Possible faults

To get any tool working properly, you must first determine the exact cause of the failure. Let's look at the most common situations in which a chainsaw stalls.

Poor quality fuel

For trouble-free operation of the engine, the quality of the fuel used is important. To keep your saw running smoothly, it is important to use the correct fuel. Fill the tank with gasoline with the octane rating recommended by the manufacturer.

Fill the tank with gasoline with the octane rating recommended by the manufacturer.

The second important condition is choosing the right oil. When purchasing, you should give preference to products from brands that produce lubricants with special additives. The saw may stall if the proportions of gasoline and oil are not observed during refueling.

Due to lack of lubrication, the mechanisms jam and the tool stops working.

The saw may stall if the proportions of gasoline and oil are not maintained during refueling. Due to lack of lubrication, the mechanisms jam and the tool stops working.

When mixing, you should use the proportions indicated in the instructions for the saw, and not the data on the oil packaging. The optimal ratio for most tool models is 25 ml of lubricant per 1 liter of gasoline.

For smooth operation of the saw, use AI-92 gasoline and two-stroke oil.

Filters are clogged

In this case, the saw runs idle, but when you press the gas it stalls. Most often this is caused by the use of low-quality gasoline. A clogged filter interferes with the flow of fuel to the engine, so the saw stops under load.

One of the important parts of the tool is the air filter. The performance of a chainsaw depends on its cleanliness and correct choice, which directly depends on the operating conditions of the tool:

  • Cotton filter - installed on tools that are used with a saw in the warm season in dry air.
  • The HD 2 filter is intended for use of the tool in winter or in dusty conditions (for example, during large-scale logging). Such parts are often equipped with professional tools.

Breather clogged

This small hole on the chainsaw tank is designed to allow air to enter. Depending on the model, it is located in the lid or in one of the walls. A clogged breather creates a vacuum inside the tank, which prevents fuel from entering the carburetor.

Fuel supply interrupted

A broken or damaged pipe is a possible reason why the saw stalls during operation. In this case, the tool starts up, since a small amount of fuel is present in the engine, but refuses to work further.

Storing the saw at sub-zero temperatures will cause the fuel tube to crack. The situation will be corrected only by replacing the part.

Problems with electrical components

Spark plugs are an important element of a chainsaw engine. The tool may stall if carbon deposits accumulate on their surface. Therefore, spark plugs need to be cleaned periodically and changed promptly.

Problems with the power supply can occur if the gap between the ignition coil and the magneto is damaged. This is caused by impacts when operating the saw in difficult conditions. For stable engine operation, the gap should not be more than 0.5 mm.

Expert opinion Dmitry Konstantinovich Levin

The lack of a spark may be due to a clogged fuel filter or depressurization of the tubes. If the spark plugs are wet, it means that during operation of the tool they are filled with gasoline or oil.

Carburetor not adjusted or clogged

Problems with the operation of this unit are indicated by the saw stopping at idle.

The carburetor malfunctions in the following cases:

  • clogged jets, nozzles, channels or filters;
  • wear of oil seals, cuffs, gaskets;
  • incorrect adjustment.

Dirty muffler

The accumulation of carbon deposits in this part leads to loss of power of the tool. The muffler can become clogged if the wrong or low-quality oil is used. Adding too much lubricant to gasoline can also cause clogs.

Poorly lubricated chain

Due to clogging or damage to the oil drive, the tool tire remains dry: the chain jams and the saw stalls during operation. The same problem can arise when using low-quality oil.

Husqvarna saw disassembly algorithm

The process of disassembling a Husqvarna chainsaw is quite simple. In order to do everything correctly and not break parts of the housing or CPG, it is necessary to disassemble in the following order:

  1. Top cover.
  2. Chain and saw brake cover.
  3. Starter.
  4. Flywheel and clutch.
  5. Front handle.
  6. Carburetor.
  7. Oil pump.
  8. Engine.

Depending on the Husqvarna model, the disassembly procedure may vary slightly.

Important: before you start disassembling the chainsaw, you need to clean it. When using a saw, a lot of chips and wood dust are generated, which during disassembly can get into the internal parts of the Husqvarna chainsaw.

Removing the side cover and saw set

The side cover, or also called the saw chain brake cover, is held in place with two thirteen nuts.

After unscrewing the nuts, the cover is removed from the guide pins, after which you can remove the bar and chain from the chainsaw. Some models of Husqvarna saws have a special mechanism installed that allows you to dismantle the cover and saw set without the help of special tools.

Starter

The starter is located on the right side of the Husqvarna and is held in place by several screws. By unscrewing them, you can easily remove the starter and thereby gain access to the flywheel and ignition coil.

Removing the flywheel and clutch

In order to unscrew the flywheel nut, you need to unscrew the spark plug and install a piston stopper in its place.

If you don’t have a special stopper, you can use an old cord from a chainsaw starter instead. It is necessary to tie knots on the lace at a distance of 2-3 cm, then, using a screwdriver, insert it through the spark plug hole inside the cylinder. The cord will limit the stroke of the piston, thereby preventing the crankshaft from turning and protecting the piston from damage.

Once the piston stopper is installed in the cylinder, the flywheel nut can be loosened. After the nut is unscrewed, it is necessary to use a hammer and a drift made of soft material to apply one sharp blow, installing the drift on the flywheel mounting shaft. This is necessary to remove the flywheel from the shaft, since the design provides for the installation and tightening of this element with great force.

You can learn more about how to properly remove the flywheel from a Husqvarna chainsaw, as well as how to completely disassemble the saw by watching the video. The wizard explains the entire process step by step and demonstrates all the necessary tools:

In order to unscrew the clutch you will need a special key. If there is no key, then it can be made from an old twenty-two head, grinding it in a certain way using emery.

The clutch has a left-hand thread and rotates clockwise.

Do not try to unscrew the clutch with a hammer and chisel, as some craftsmen advise. Using these tools, you risk breaking the clutch housing and increasing repair costs. It can also damage the crankshaft bearings.

Front handle

Removing the Husqvarna front handle is quite simple, as it is attached to the shock absorbers with screws.

Air filter and carburetor

To remove the carburetor, it is necessary to disconnect the fuel hose and damper rods from it; this can be done conveniently after the air filter is removed, which is installed immediately behind the carburetor and held in place with two 10mm nuts. After the air filter is removed, the fuel hose and the rods are disconnected, just pull the carburetor towards you and remove it from the studs.

Use tweezers and medical clamps to remove the carburetor.

Oil pump

On Husqvarna, the oil pump is installed on the right side of the chainsaw. It can only be removed after the clutch has been released. Removal does not require a special tool, because... The fastening screws are made for a regular Phillips screwdriver. After the screws are unscrewed, it is necessary to lift the pump and disconnect the oil hoses from it.

Engine

To remove the engine on a Husqvarna chainsaw, after the carburetor, clutch, flywheel and muffler have been removed, you will need to unscrew the four screws securing it to the body.

After the engine is removed, you can unscrew the ignition coil from it, remembering to first disconnect the wires leading from it to the ignition switch. The coil can also be removed immediately after the starter is removed.

Assembling the Husqvarna chainsaw should be carried out in the reverse order, and the flywheel nut and clutch must be tightened with the force specified in the chainsaw operating instructions.

What to do if the chainsaw refuses to start

  1. First of all, do not fall into despair and do not start randomly turning the carburetor adjusting screws.
  2. Set the chainsaw aside for about 15 minutes. It is quite possible that the cause of the problem was a spark plug filled with gasoline.
  3. Try to start the chainsaw again, following all the instructions in the operating instructions, but without activating the safety saw brake. The fact is that turning on the saw brake makes it much more difficult to start the chainsaw, and if you hold the device securely and correctly in your hands, then you will not need any additional insurance against accidents.
  4. Unscrew the fasteners, remove the top cover of the chainsaw and remove the container with the air filter from it. This technique also makes starting the chainsaw much easier. At the same time, you can perform preventative maintenance on the filter by removing accumulated dust, dirt and debris.
  5. If possible, replace the flooded spark plug with a spare one. If there is no spare spark plug, unscrew the old one, heat it in an open flame, replace it and try to start it again without an air filter.
  6. If you notice the smell of gasoline, unscrew the spark plug and turn the chainsaw over so that excess gasoline flows out through the hole. After this, in an inverted state, pull the ignition cord several times (about 10 times) to provide fresh air to the combustion chamber. Screw in a new spark plug or a fire-heated spark plug, and then try again to start the chainsaw without connecting the air filter.
  7. Look into the spark plug hole. If the piston is completely dry, then it is possible that the cause of the starting problem is a blockage in the carburetor or water getting inside it, which prevents gasoline from entering the chamber. Fill a medical syringe with some fuel (about 1 cm³) and inject it into the chamber. Screw the spark plug back in and try to start the engine again. If it starts, the cause of the blockage should be swept away by a strong flow.
  8. Before performing the last two techniques, you must carefully ensure that the spark plug remains dry.
  9. Then visually check that the spark plug is producing a spark. It also happens that the cause of the breakdown is a failed electronic ignition module. Although, with some malfunctions, the spark may also skip.
  10. Loosen the chainsaw muffler mounting bolts and separate it from the body, being careful not to damage the gasket between the muffler and the cylinder. Repeating the above operations, try starting the chainsaw without a muffler and air filter. Through the opened hole on the muffler side, you can assess the condition of the piston system by slowly pulling the starter and moving the piston. If you observe the presence of deep burrs, scratches on the surface of the cylinder or piston, or a tightly clamped ring in a groove, it means that the engine will no longer start, since its piston has become unusable.

If the algorithm proposed above does not help, you should seek help from qualified technicians and adjusters from the service center.

Every person who is familiar with gas-powered tools knows that sometimes the equipment works intermittently, or may stall at one point and not start again. There are many reasons why a chainsaw does not start; we will try to consider the most common of them.

Is there fuel in the tank and what is its quality?

Checking the presence of fuel in the tank is the first place to start diagnosing. Even if there is visually still fuel in the tank, make sure that the fuel line is lowered into it. If the fuel in the tank is low, then this is the main reason why it is impossible to start the engine. After adding fuel to the tank, it is necessary to bleed the system, and only after that carry out a test run of the engine.

If there is enough fuel in the tank, make sure that the supply hose inside the tank is not disconnected. On some models of chainsaws, such a malfunction is a “disease”. If the tank is full, this does not mean that the breakdown is not related to the fuel system. Check the quality of the fuel (oil and gasoline). Gasoline for chainsaws is mainly used of the AI-92 grade. As an oil, you need to use only a special two-stroke oil, but not motor oil or even waste oil.

The prepared fuel mixture cannot be stored for more than 2 weeks, as the mixture begins to lose its properties, which negatively affects not only the operation of the engine, but also its starting. How does a poor-quality mixture affect engine starting, you ask? Everything is very simple, when the mixture is stored for a long time, oil precipitates, which leads to clogging of the carburetor channels and jets.

The instructions for each brand of chainsaw indicate recommendations on the ratio of gasoline to oil. This is the recommendation that should be followed when preparing a mixture for a two-stroke chainsaw engine, otherwise it will significantly shorten the service life of your tool.

This is interesting!
You can tell the quality of the fuel by the color of the carbon deposits on the spark plugs.

Muffler failure

If at low speeds the saw engine runs without interruption , and when they increase it stalls, then the problem is related to the muffler. This indicates a faulty spark arrester. Most likely, it is clogged with combustion waste. To perform cleaning, the muffler is first removed and disassembled. Next, the user painstakingly removes the resulting carbon deposits using detergent.

After this fact, experts advise drying the part with a hairdryer. At the end of all manipulations, the muffler is installed in its original place.

If a situation arises when the chainsaw does not start, it is important to correctly diagnose it and determine the direction in which to look for the fault. You should not use a tool that does not idle, as this indicates that there is air leaking into the engine and can lead to serious problems. If you don’t have enough experience in repairing chainsaws, it’s better to contact a specialist who will save your time and nerves.

Recommendations for replacing the clutch on a chainsaw

In addition to the basic operating rules described in the previous section, it is worth remembering some nuances when replacing the clutch. Use only original manufacturer parts - this is the key to long and productive operation of the tool. The clutch thread on all chainsaws of any manufacturer is always left-handed. Before removing the coupling, carefully remove all dirt and dust from the tool so that it does not get inside. When reassembling, do not forget to replace all small parts, including washers and bearings. Make sure to install the special spring (not all chainsaws have it) - if it is installed incorrectly, oil will not be supplied to the saw bar.

A chainsaw for a business man is an indispensable tool that comes to the rescue when performing logging work of various sizes, implementing construction projects from timber, landscaping private properties, a garden, a yard, and on a farm.

The power unit consists of several important components, including the clutch. Often, the tool may malfunction due to a faulty chainsaw clutch. This is a typical breakdown that chainsaw owners encounter, regardless of its class, power, model and manufacturer. To repair the clutch, or at least accurately diagnose the cause of the failure, operators need to know how to unscrew the clutch on a chainsaw. This knowledge will allow not only to carry out forced repair work, but also scheduled cleaning and inspection for preventive purposes. Do not forget that the clutch and its serviceability affect the long and efficient operation of the tool.

How to remove and replace the drive sprocket

The chain moves along the bus by a drive sprocket, which is connected to the gearbox. It is an assembly unit that rotates due to a bearing. At the end of the tire there is a driven sprocket with the same pitch relative to the drive one. Therefore, when carrying out repair work, all factors are taken into account: the alignment of the splines, the presence of bearings, and the kinematics of the tool.

When the spline wears out, the drive sprocket is replaced, otherwise traction with the chain will not occur.

In order to change a part, you must perform the following steps:

  • unscrew the nuts of the tire cover and remove the headset using working tools;
  • remove the air filter;
  • unscrew the saw spark plug;
  • remove the clutch on the chainsaw;
  • inspect the drum and check the crown;
  • remove the chainsaw sprocket;
  • if necessary, replace the broken part with a new one;
  • Reassemble all parts in reverse order.

If the process of replacing a sprocket on a Husqvarna chainsaw is difficult, use the services of a specialist.

Malfunctions leading to improper operation of the chainsaw

There are a number of malfunctions that must be taken into account when diagnosing, since they can lead to interruptions in the operation of the saw.

  1. Wear of crankshaft bearings. If the crankshaft bearings are worn out, runout will inevitably appear on the main shaft where the flywheel is attached. In such a situation, it is impossible to adjust the gap between the flywheel and the ignition coil, which leads to interruptions in spark formation and unstable operation of the chainsaw.
  2. Impulse channel is dirty. The pulse channel serves to ensure the operation of the fuel pump; accordingly, its contamination will lead to improper operation of the pump, which will make it impossible for the saw to operate (it will start and immediately stall).
  3. CPG wear. As a rule, with increased wear of the CPG, a decrease in compression in the chainsaw engine is observed, which will certainly affect its ability to develop speed.
  4. Dirty fuel and air filters.

Setting the ignition coil gap.

Most modern models of chainsaws and trimmers do not require setting the ignition timing. It is set by specially defined places for grooves on the flywheel and crankshaft shank for the keyed connection of these two parts. The following malfunctions often occur at the junction of these parts:

  • the seats for the key on the flywheel and crankshaft are broken
  • the key wears out and the crankshaft turns on the key

As a result, both parts (depending on condition) will need to be replaced in the event of a malfunction. Such problems are often caused by a loose nut holding the flywheel to the crankshaft.

It is only necessary to correctly set the gap between the flywheel and the ignition coil. Depending on the tool model, the gap size may vary. Usually it is 0.2-0.4mm. Important : the gap is set from the side of the magnets and the ignition module. Since the flywheel is round, a regular car feeler gauge will not work for this purpose. It would be technically correct to set the gap according to a special template. But it is not always possible to purchase it. It is unwise to buy such an expensive template for one-time use. Instead of a corporate template, you can use a strip from a plastic water bottle. Cut a strip from the bottle in the place where there is no relief embossing. You can also use a plastic card (not too thick). Further steps for setting the gap are approximately the same for both chainsaws and trimmers:

  1. Loosen the ignition mounting bolts.
  2. Connect the magnets on the flywheel to the ignition coil
  3. Holding the plate between the flywheel and the coil, tighten the mounting bolts.
  4. Remove the strip
  5. Rotate the flywheel 360 degrees several times, making sure that it does not catch on the reel anywhere.

All. The gap between the coil and the flywheel is set. Before reassembling, rotate the flywheel and make sure that it does not catch anywhere.

Note: Do not use paper as a template. It does not have the proper elasticity; when tightened, it will definitely deform and the gap will be incorrect.

Repairing the ignition coil is impossible and impractical. Below is a list of ignition coils that can be purchased on our website.

Question: A standard problem occurred with the Husqvarna 137 chainsaw (impulse channel seal). After replacement, the saw developed an unknown malfunction.

It starts up well, idles stable, but after 5 minutes of operation the power drops, the saw begins to operate at high speeds and choke. I assume that the problem is in the carburetor settings, but I don’t know what exactly to adjust.

Answer: it is possible that air is leaking through the same pulse generator. In principle, after replacing it is recommended to adjust the carburetor.

You shouldn’t adjust it yourself; for this you need a pressure gauge; if the mixture becomes lean, you’ll throw out the piston. Look at the carburetor mount; when the saw heats up, it starts to suck in air somewhere.

Question: I have a question about the Husqvarna 137 chainsaw. At first (when the problems started), the saw worked at idle normally, but at high speeds it worked for several seconds and the speed dropped until the engine stopped, then at medium speeds it began to stop abruptly and it was impossible to start until did not unscrew the spark plug and did not screw it back in.

I removed the carburetor, disassembled it, washed it and blew it out - 0 results.

I completely disassembled the saw and discovered that the rubber tube that connects the carburetor and the sleeve (small) had worn out, the group is normal, there is also a gap in the ring, there is play in the bearings (more noticeable on the ignition side since 1 petal on the flywheel is broken off, I think that’s where the play comes from) assembled, starts only on choke, runs for 3-5 seconds and stalls.

When you open the valve, it melts immediately; after several attempts, the spark plug and piston become wet. What could be the reason? Could there be an air leak from under the seals? Is the carburetor overfilling?

Answer: You need to disassemble the chainsaw. A rubber tube connects the cavity under the piston to the fuel pump diaphragm in the carburetor. If the tube is torn, then dirt will be sucked under the piston, and the pump in the carburetor will not work.

I hope the tube has been replaced. Was the carburetor disassembled, were the idle speed and mixture quality screws turned out? If the seals are sucked, the mixture will become leaner, and in theory the spark plug should not be filled. The fact that the blade on the impeller is broken is extremely bad. The imbalance at 11,000 rpm will be terrible, the bearing will wear out quite a bit.

Question: I have a Husqvarna 137 petrol saw. I don’t remember how old the saw is. I sawed a lot. Recently it began to lose power, and a few days ago it stalled and stopped starting.

What was done: Replaced the spark plug with a new Bosch one. The result is zero. Removed the fuel filter - zero. They put it back. We disassembled and assembled the carburetor. (The screws were never touched). The membranes are intact. A set of membranes will arrive soon, we want to replace them just in case. They changed the fuel.

We replaced the ignition coil from the 142nd saw. The result is that it starts, but before starting you need to pump the trigger many times. And if it starts, the engine only works if you pull the trigger. That is, intermittently. It doesn't work at full throttle, nor does it work at idle. What else should I check?

Answer: Try also checking the muffler (whether it is clogged with carbon deposits), the condition of the impulse channel hose, and whether there is sufficient compression in the cylinder.

Question: Husqvarna 137 chainsaw, there are the following symptoms: When starting the saw, the chain starts to rotate, you give gas, the chain stops. After I stop sawing, the chain does not stop, it rotates slowly. It can be stopped if you touch a piece of wood without gas, the chain stops, but there are slippages after that at idle.

Answer: Perhaps weakened clutch springs, or maybe just simple dirt in the cup. And you need to reduce the speed with the idle speed screw so that the chain stops.

Question: I have a problem with chain lubrication. I removed the oil pump and don't understand why it won't pump oil. Previously, when I removed the pump, oil leaked out of the reservoir, but now it doesn’t.

I pulled out this device where the pump tip is inserted, blew it out, and no results. I used a wire to clean the plastic tube where, I think, air gets into the tank, but no results. What to do?

Answer: If air gets into the tank, the pump must pump. Is the oil pump gear intact? (the weak link of these saws). If you lick at least one tooth on the gear and that’s it, no oil will flow.

And the gear should move freely, without the slightest jamming. The gear has its own place or position, there is a notch in it that should align with the cotter pin.

Question: The clutch spring broke on the Husqvarna 137 chainsaw. I removed the clutch spring. Will this affect the idle speed?

Answer: change the assembly and work calmly. I think a broken or missing spring will affect the idle speed.

Why does the Shtil chainsaw not start when it's hot? Why does a chainsaw have trouble starting?

Main reasons:

  • fuel and air filters;
  • reduced compression;
  • carburetor adjustment;
  • spark plug;
  • ignition coil;
  • gap between the ignition coil and the flywheel;

Let's look at each reason in more detail.

Fuel and air filter

Contamination of the main filter elements of a chainsaw negatively affects its operation.

For example, a dirty air filter will not provide enough air to the carburetor, which will affect the quality of the air-fuel mixture and normal engine starting. A dirty fuel filter will make it difficult or even cut off the flow of gasoline to the carburetor and make it impossible for the engine to operate.

Reduced compression

One of the common cases of difficult starting of a chainsaw is wear of the CPG (cylinder-piston group).

As you know, for a chainsaw to start normally, compression must be present in its engine. It is necessary for normal compression of the fuel mixture in the engine cylinder, and it also affects the operation of the fuel pump.

During the operation of the tool, the compression value drops and the chainsaw begins to have difficulty starting.

The reasons for the lack of compression or its decrease may be natural, because The engine wears out during operation. Problems can also be caused by a serious breakdown, for example, a scuffed CPG, or a broken piston ring.

A sign of low compression is weak starter resistance when starting. With reduced compression, a decrease in the power of the chainsaw is observed, which negatively affects its performance. The problem is eliminated by replacing the piston rings, or the entire CPG.

Carburetor adjustment

Incorrect carburetor adjustment will cause the chainsaw to not develop full power. It will be difficult to start, or not start at all. Carburetor settings directly affect the quality of the air-fuel mixture, which is necessary for normal starting and further operation of the engine.

If the carburetor is incorrectly adjusted, there will be more or less gasoline in the fuel-air mixture than required, and the mixture will not ignite even with normal sparking.

Excess gasoline in the mixture is usually called overflow. A characteristic sign of overflow is a wet spark plug, after several unsuccessful attempts to start the chainsaw.

Spark plug

The spark plug is one of the main elements of the ignition system. A spark is formed at its electrodes, and if this element fails, starting will be difficult or not possible at all.

The spark plug may fail completely, or work intermittently or produce a weak spark. Checking the spark plug is quite simple; to do this, you need to unscrew it from the engine, attach it to the cap of the high-voltage wire and, placing it on the cylinder, pull the starter. If the spark plug is in order, the spark will be powerful with a bluish tint. A weak spark with a reddish tint is a sign of a problem. A defective spark plug needs to be replaced.

Ignition coil

The reason that a new chainsaw does not start, or starts poorly, may be the ignition coil. Modern chainsaws are equipped with electronic ignition coils. This part cannot be repaired, and, as a rule, if there is a defect, it is completely replaced.

Gap between ignition coil and flywheel

An incorrectly set gap between the flywheel and the ignition coil contacts affects the quality of spark formation, which in turn is responsible for normal starting and stable operation of the engine.

Methods for checking the ignition module.

The only sure way to diagnose the serviceability of an ignition coil is to replace it with a known working test sample: if after replacement everything works as it should, then the problem was with the coil. If you don’t have one, then move on.

To eliminate possible malfunctions from the wiring and shutdown buttons, disconnect the control wires from the coil during the test.

  1. Measuring coil resistances. This method is not always applicable: firstly, you need to know the resistance parameters of the coil windings. Secondly, in addition to the inductor, the ignition contains semiconductor elements to form the required high-voltage pulse. As mentioned above, their malfunction can only appear when heated. To measure the module correctly, it is necessary to disconnect the armor wire and cap from it, which cannot be done without consequences. In short, reliable measurements are possible when the correct parameters are known and carried out under operating conditions.
  2. Using a device that checks for the presence of a spark. It is mounted in the open circuit between the spark plugs and the high-voltage wire of the ignition coil. The device is expensive and is used mainly in serious service centers. As an example, the ignition system tester from Shtil ZAT 4. Price $30-50.
  3. With the help of a candle. Remove the spark plug and place its body against the cylinder. Pull the starter and watch for a spark between its contacts. This method is approximate and does not give a complete picture of the state of the ignition coil, since the spark plug is not “under pressure” and the flywheel will rotate faster due to the lack of compression in the engine (the spark plug is turned out)
  4. "Barbaric" way . It is used at your own risk in hopeless situations.
  • remove the cap from the candle and insert a nail into it. Be careful not to damage the inside of the cap - then put it back on the candle and use it. It is better to bite off the head of the nail. Otherwise, it may be difficult to remove it.
  • position the nail 6-7mm from the cylinder.
  • “start” the engine, that is, perform the usual actions when starting the tool. This will force the ignition system to work. Please note that the candle must be screwed into the spark plug hole.
  • look at the presence and color of the spark. Ideally, the spark should be “strong” and bright blue. Everything else is a sign of a malfunction.
  • Important points:

– the spark plug must not be unscrewed: the lack of compression will lead to faster rotation of the flywheel, which will not correspond to real operating conditions

– if there are electronic components in the ignition system, then this method can damage them

– the distance between the nail and the cylinder models the compression and dielectric properties of the fuel mixture. The distance of 6-7mm is approximate and may differ on different product models.

The philosophy of the method: there must be a large gap between the nail and the cylinder, the spark must be “strong” and bright blue

To avoid using a nail, you can make your own probe. To do this, you need a new spark plug that is known to work. Increase the gap in it to 4-5 mm. Next, we put a cap on it, apply it to the engine and evaluate the quality of the spark. It should be “strong” - clear and bright. Under conditions of high pressure and temperature, it will be able to ignite the fuel mixture. A weak spark will not do this. Ignition occurs later or does not occur at all. Uneven operation of the engine occurs, the engine does not gain speed, vibration and detonation occur, and a “kickback” effect may appear in the starter.

Why the chainsaw does not start, reasons and solutions. How the mechanism works

Almost all tools, both foreign (Husqvarna, Makita, Shtil, Partner 350), and Chinese chainsaws, and domestic (Druzhba, Ural), are designed the same. Therefore, finding the reason why the device does not start and stalls will not be difficult.

There are four elements where problems may arise:

  • The fuel for which the carburetor is responsible;
  • Lubrication;
  • The air that enters through the air filter;
  • A spark, the quality of which depends on the ignition unit.

They all depend on each other and interact with each other. If any element does not work correctly, the saw stops working.

Let's start with the fact that all tools start up differently - hot and cold. Two commonly used mechanisms are responsible for this process.

Be sure to look at what is written in the user manual. It states that when turning it on, you need to make sure that the emergency stop brake is engaged. But starting a saw with a brake is much more difficult, so sometimes it’s better not to turn on the brake.

As you can find out from the instructions, inside the body there is a fuel tank and an engine, and outside there is a saw part (bar with chain), a handle and a starter.

First you need to figure out exactly how the tool won’t start. For example, the saw starts up, but immediately stalls, or loses power and cutting quality.

Perhaps interruptions in operation occur due to problems in the engine. But I would not recommend disassembling it right away. It is better to look for the problem from the simplest option.

It is very important to consider the quality of the fuel. If the mixture is prepared incorrectly or has deteriorated over time, then even such reliable tools as the Ural or Husqvarna 145 will not work. The instructions must indicate the proportions and special oil specifically for your chainsaw.

The instructions must indicate the proportions and special oil specifically for your chainsaw.

Another common problem is that the user fills the candle during startup. It needs to be inspected; if it is completely dry, then fuel is not passing into the cylinder.

If you see black carbon deposits or a lot of fuel, then the carburetor may not be properly regulating the fuel supply.

If your saw tool starts, but immediately stalls, then the problem needs to be looked for in the carburetor jet or fuel filter. Perhaps they are clogged.

To check if the breather is damaged, you need to disconnect the fuel hose from the carburetor and see if the fuel mixture leaks out of it.

If the saw does not start when hot, then the problem may be in the muffler. Sometimes it gets clogged from the exhaust itself.

Quite often, saw breakdowns occur due to a small amount of chain lubricant. This happens when the channels are clogged or the oil line is leaking.

Also inspect the connections of the pipes with the oil pump fittings to see if they are leaking.

It is very bad when a breakdown occurs in the cylinder. When examining it, you may find unevenness or chips, and this may be the cause of the problem.

Basic malfunctions and ways to eliminate them

When starting to repair a chainsaw, you need to have an idea of what malfunctions it may have, as well as how these malfunctions are eliminated. So, let's look at the signs of malfunctions and how to fix them.

Husqvarna chainsaw does not start

If the Husqvarna does not start, the first thing you need to make sure is that you follow the algorithm for starting the saw, as well as the presence of fuel in the tank. Detailed instructions on how to start a cold chainsaw and refuel it are available in the saw manual that comes with all Husqvarna chainsaws.

If you do everything correctly, but the saw does not respond, the reason may be a malfunction of the ignition system or lack of fuel supply.

To more accurately determine the reasons for this behavior of the chainsaw, it is necessary to inspect the spark plug, and then check it for the presence of a spark.

If the spark plug is wet and no spark is detected when checking, you should try replacing the spark plug itself. The replacement did not produce results, which means the problem may be hidden in the ignition coil, which is quite difficult to check on your own.

You can check the serviceability of the coil by installing it on a previously working saw of a similar model or by replacing the part with a working one.

If there is a spark, but the spark plug is dry, there is a problem in the fuel system. To eliminate it, you need to carry out a full diagnosis. The fuel system consists of a carburetor and a fuel line. Without any specific experience, you can check the fuel line for ruptures, as well as the cleanliness of the fuel filter installed in the tank. It is better to entrust complete carburetor diagnostics and repairs to professionals.

If the saw starts, but poorly

The cause of difficulty starting the saw may be a malfunction or incorrect adjustment of the carburetor. If the carburetor overflows, the chainsaw will be easy to start when hot, but quite difficult when cold, especially after a long period of inactivity.

An indirect sign of an excessive amount of fuel mixture entering the cylinder when the chainsaw is operating is the exhaust. If a lot of white smoke is emitted when the chainsaw is running, it is worth checking the proportions of the fuel mixture and carburetor adjustments.

Chainsaw chain spins at idle speed

If the Husqvarna chain rotates at idle, then we can conclude that there is a malfunction in the clutch mechanism or the idle speed is not adjusted. To eliminate the malfunction, it is necessary to remove the saw chain brake cover and inspect the integrity of the clutch spring. Replace defective clutch.

If the clutch is working properly, to eliminate chain spinning, it is necessary to adjust the idle speed using the adjusting screw marked with the letter (T) or carry out a full carburetor adjustment.

Important: a possible reason for an independent increase in idle speed is the appearance of air leaks into the engine crankcase or carburetor, which can lead to serious damage to the CPG.

Why does the Husqvarna chainsaw stall when you press the gas?

If the saw stalls immediately after pressing the gas, it is necessary to inspect the spark plug, which will help more accurately diagnose the problem. A wet spark plug indicates a malfunction or incorrect adjustment of the carburetor; in this case, the situation can be corrected by carrying out a complete diagnosis, repair and adjustment of this unit. If repairs and adjustments do not help, you need to replace the carburetor with a new one.

Another reason why a Husqvarna may stall when you press the gas is a malfunction in the fuel system, or more precisely, difficulty in supplying fuel to the carburetor. It is necessary to check the cleanliness of the fuel filter, as well as the integrity of the fuel hoses.

During the process of assembling the chainsaw during its complete repair, you can pinch the fuel hose coming from the tank to the carburetor, which will limit or completely stop the fuel supply and make the saw impossible to operate.

Why is the chain on the Husqvarna chainsaw not lubricated?

If your chainsaw has completely stopped supplying saw chain lubrication, then you need to check the entire oil system.

There may be several reasons:

  1. Oil pump malfunction;
  2. Clogged filter element installed in the tank;
  3. Oil tank breather malfunction;
  4. Oil hose rupture;
  5. Mismatches in the oil hole on the bar and on the saw body (if the supply stopped after installing a new saw bar);
  6. Clogged oil channel in the saw body;
  7. Clogged oil supply channel in the tire;
  8. Oil pump drive gear malfunction.

Self-repair of Husqvarna chainsaws is only possible if you have at least some knowledge about the operation of a two-stroke engine, as well as the principles on which the chainsaw is designed. As practice shows, it is not difficult to disassemble a Husqvarna chainsaw; it is much more difficult to assemble it without aggravating its malfunction. Calculate your strengths in advance and do not hope that you will be able to repair the saw without some experience. In some cases, even experienced technicians put a lot of effort into correctly diagnosing the problem.

Actions if a malfunction is detected in various parts of the unit

Such unpleasant phenomena as loss of power, lack of connection, and idle support are common. The reasons for this behavior of the tool are malfunctions of the chainsaw carburetor. This is expressed in contamination with particles of dust and sawdust. Such a breakdown can be easily repaired on its own.

The carburetor is cleaned using:

  • a small amount of gasoline;
  • Phillips screwdriver;
  • brushes;
  • heads, size 8.

To begin repairing the carburetor, they begin by cleaning it from dirt and dust particles and small wood. A brush is used for this. When the surface is completely free of debris, the repairman removes the cover, and then the filter.

The air collector is released after unscrewing the air filter mounts. The user now has access to the accelerator and rods. The accelerator lever is removed as soon as the throttle is lowered by pressing down with your finger.

The carburetor moves away from its seat after the choke lever is removed and closed. Then the wire is removed and pulled towards itself to stop the engine. The plastic lever, which is the place where the wire is attached, is photographed.

It is raised from the left. As a result, the carburetor is freed, which makes it possible to pull it out and clean it. For these purposes, it is convenient to use a compressor. In its absence, the parts are washed in clean gasoline.

Disassembling a Stihl chainsaw – video

Important! When repairing a poorly functioning Stil MS 180, be sure to inspect the condition of the fuel filter. Remove it and blow out the fuel hose

The saw carburetor assembly process is carried out in reverse order. If, after this process, smoke appears from the muffler and the saw engine does not start well, then you need to make sure that there is a spring located under the lever needle.

The spring cuts off the fuel supply. In its absence, a spontaneous “overflow” of fuel into the spark plug occurs.

It is important to ensure that the spring is installed in its place and make sure that the spark plug is working

If a candle is filled with gasoline, it should be dried. To do this, the part is unscrewed and the excess fuel that gets inside is drained through the existing hole. The candle takes more than half an hour to dry. Then it is installed in place, and the chainsaw is brought into working condition.

Insufficient contact between the high-voltage wire and the end of the spark plug can also be one of the reasons for tool failure. Repair of stihl chainsaw parts can be done by replacing problematic parts.

For example, if a spark plug fails, it is replaced with a reliable one. Chains, sprockets, and tires are subject to rapid wear. They solve anti-vibration problems in the chainsaw device, so they are replaced urgently. It is recommended to keep such spare parts in stock.

An irreplaceable item for the garden. I use it for construction, collecting firewood and cultivating trees. The saw is lightweight, reliable, and works equally well in winter and summer. I like the build quality, ergonomics and reliability. There are no problems with maintenance - the parts are inexpensive.

A chainsaw is an extremely useful tool for gardeners, summer residents, owners of country houses or their own bathhouse. And we do not take into account professional use in forestry, carpentry or construction.

How to make sure there really is no spark

To make sure there is a spark on the chainsaw or not, you need to follow a simple procedure:

  1. The top cover on the case is removed.
  2. Carefully, with a grip at the very bottom, so as not to tear off the spark plug wire, remove the cap from the spark plug.
  3. Using the 19 mm socket wrench included in the kit, unscrew the spark plug counterclockwise.
  4. The cap is put in place, on the candle.
  5. The thread or nut of the spark plug is “grounded,” that is, pressed against the metal cylinder head. To ensure reliable contact, the spark plug is pressed against the cylinder using electric pliers, a screwdriver with insulated handles, or a hand wearing dielectric gloves. This should not be done with your bare hand. If the cap is punctured, you can receive a painful shock from a high-voltage discharge (up to 40,000 V at a weak current of up to 80 milliamps).

Place the chainsaw on the ground, press it to the ground with your foot and lightly pull the starter cord. At this time it will be clear whether there is a spark or not.

How to dilute gasoline for a Husqvarna chainsaw

For productive work and increased service life at high power, maintain the proportion of oil and gasoline for the chainsaw, measuring the ratio of the ingredients of the fuel mixture with a measuring tank. When preparing even a small quantity, small inaccuracies affect the quality of the fuel.

For dilution, use high-quality gasoline with a minimum octane number - RON 90. If the parameter is less than recommended, the engine begins to knock, which leads to overheating and increased load on the bearings. When constantly operating at high speeds, choose gasoline with an increased rating.

It is recommended to use 2-stroke oil.

To properly dilute gasoline for a chainsaw, use the following mixing scheme:

  • for engines with a cylinder displacement of up to 80 cm³ - 1:50 (2%), i.e. 5 liters of gasoline - 0.10 liters of oil;
  • for engines with a volume above 80 cm³ - 1:33 (3%), i.e. 5 liters of gasoline - 0.15 liters of oil.

Advantages and disadvantages

The Husqvarna 137 chainsaw, like any product, has pros and cons.

The advantages of the tool are as follows:

  • high quality of manufacturing and fitting of parts together;
  • use of wear-resistant materials, long service life;
  • convenient design that provides balance when working;
  • light weight of the product, use of durable polymer plastic;
  • safety ensured by several safety devices;
  • high performance;
  • affordable cost of tools and consumables.

The product has practically no disadvantages. It is necessary to use high-quality fuels and lubricants and observe the proportions for preparing the fuel mixture. If this is not done, the tool will fail.

Ignition system

If the tool suddenly stops working, then the first thing you need to check is the ignition system. And you need to start with a candle. The work must be done very carefully. A special hook is used for this. First you need to disconnect the wire and remove the spark plug.

If it is dry, it means that fuel is not entering the cylinder.

If there is splashes on it, then the breakdown may lie in the carburetor or in the starting rule. To fix the breakdown, you need to wipe the spark plug and turn off the fuel supply. After this, the starter starts.

Thus, the combustion chamber is ventilated and excess fuel is removed. After this, the spark plug is installed in place and the chainsaw starts.

If there is carbon deposits on the spark plugs, this indicates that the Husqvarna 137 chainsaw runs on low-quality fuel. Carbon deposits also form as a result of an incorrect ratio of fuel and oil. In order for the tool to work as long as possible, you need to carefully study the operating instructions.

If there is carbon on the candle, it must be carefully removed. You can use an awl for this. The electrodes are carefully rubbed with sandpaper. After this, it is installed in place. You also need to fill in the fuel that is recommended for this model of chainsaw.

Saw Huskvarna 137

This saw has gained popularity due to the optimal balance of its characteristics and high quality. This saw can be called ideal for household use:

  • It is quite light, only 4.6 kg when empty;
  • It has a good power of 1.6 kW, which allows you to solve a variety of problems;
  • Equipped with vibration damping systems and a chain brake, which increase the convenience and safety of work.

Husqvarna 137 is a universal saw for the household. Thanks to its thoughtful design and high build quality, the saw will serve you for a long time, even with intensive work.

Causes of ignition system failure

If the Husqvarna saw stops working, then first of all you need to check the spark plug for functionality. This must be done very carefully using a specially designed hook. The first step is to disconnect the wires from the body and look at the appearance of the candle.

  1. If the spark plug is dry, this indicates that fuel is no longer entering the main cylinder. In this case, the fault is not in the spark plug, so you can safely screw it back in.
  2. When there is fuel spatter on this part, the main problem is in the carburetor. This indicates that it was incorrectly adjusted or the starting rule was violated.

To fix this problem in a chainsaw, it is recommended to thoroughly wipe the spark plug, turn off the fuel supply and turn on the starter. This procedure is performed in order to thoroughly ventilate the combustion chamber and eliminate excess fuel. After this, the spark plug can be installed in its original place and the Husqvarna 137 chainsaw can be started.

When a candle is covered with heavy carbon deposits, this indicates the use of low-quality oil. In order for the chainsaw to serve for a long time, it is necessary to buy only tested and certified lubricants. Sometimes users incorrectly calculate the ratio of oil and gasoline, and also set the carburetor to inaccurate adjustments.

In this case, it is recommended to pay attention to the presence of a spark during startup. To do this, install an ignition cable on the spark plug, connect the cylinder and the nut

Now you can start the chainsaw starter and then a spark appears. If it is still missing, then you should replace the old spark plug with a new one. In rare cases, users will come to look for a faulty high voltage drive or troubleshoot a connection problem.

Device

The product has a classic design for products of its class. Manufacturers have embodied simplicity and sufficiency in it.

Construction of the Husqvarna 137 chainsaw:

  • frame;
  • holding handles;
  • mechanical starter;
  • internal combustion engine;
  • chain brake lever;
  • tanks for oil and fuel mixture;
  • throttle, gas and choke control levers;
  • ignition button;
  • muffler;
  • sprocket tire;
  • saw chain.

The fuel supply system and clutch are mounted inside the housing.

Carburetor

The unit is responsible for supplying a mixture of fuel and oil to the cylinder. The carburetor is equipped with a diaphragm and a special needle valve. These parts regulate the pressure in the system. The dosage of the supplied air is carried out by two dampers located on the diffuser chamber. One regulates the air volume when pressing the gas lever, and the second regulates the flow during a cold start of the tool. At this moment, the damper partially closes, and the enriched mixture enters the engine.

After mixing gasoline and oil, the fuel is supplied to the cylinder through an injector with a check valve. This is an important detail that prevents exhaust gases from entering the diffuser.

The chain for the Husqvarna 137 chainsaw is different:

  • high strength;
  • hardness;
  • low vibration;
  • wear resistance.

The drill links are equipped with chamfers that ensure high-quality cutting of hardwood.

Saw chain characteristics:

  • link thickness - 1.3 mm;
  • chain pitch - 3/8 inch;
  • tire length - 40 cm;
  • number of links - 56.

The product uses the “chisel with chamfer” technology. The tension is adjusted with a screwdriver by turning the adjusting screw. Sharpening is carried out with a round needle file with a diameter of 4 mm. An alternative is to use a sharpening machine or the services of specialists from a service center.
