Komatsu D155A-5 is a popular Japanese-made bulldozer from the Advance series. The model combines reliability, quality and ease of use. Currently, Komatsu is a leader in the construction equipment market, and its products are characterized by high service life and efficiency. The manufacturer uses its own aggregate base (transmissions, hydraulic drives, engines and large components), which ensures ideal compatibility of elements and improves quality.
The main purpose of the Komatsu D155A-5 model is considered to be the movement of significant volumes of soil. A bulldozer is also used to level sites, backfill and remove layers of soil. The model is popular with organizations involved in the construction of dams and dams, the construction of embankments, the uprooting of trees and stumps, the creation of road contours and other activities in the field of construction. It is actively used by companies extracting natural resources from the bowels of the earth.
The scope of application and productivity of the equipment can be expanded with additional replaceable equipment: extenders, slopes, openers and rippers.
Komatsu D155A-5 is valued for its reliability and high quality. The design of the model is time-tested and can withstand heavy loads. The bulldozer is perfect for work where machine downtime is impossible or undesirable.
Modifications
The predecessor of the Komatsu D155A-5 is the Komatsu D155A-3, which was very popular. After the appearance of the next generation of equipment, it was discontinued, but certain technologies in the new product were preserved.
The Komatsu D155A family includes several models:
- Komatsu D155A-2E;
- Komatsu D155A-5;
- Komatsu D155AX-3;
- Komatsu D155AX-3E;
- Komatsu D155AX-6.
The modifications are built according to a similar scheme and have minor differences in technical characteristics (engine power, weight, blade volume and load capacity).
Advantages of the Komatsu D155A-5 bulldozer:
- the supporting frame is made flat, which has a positive effect on maneuverability;
- multi-disc brakes ensure driving safety and do not require adjustment;
- a well-thought-out location of the center of gravity increases the stability of the machine;
- the key elements of the bulldozer are made modular;
- oil is filled in one place for all elements;
- powerful and economical engine of our own production;
- the power unit compartment has lifting side doors that simplify maintenance;
- modular design of power transmission units minimizes downtime;
- hoses of the hydraulic circuit of the blade skew have additional protection;
- the torque converter ensures a reduction in shock loads and a smooth ride;
- The balanced chassis and elastic suspension improve grip and reduce vibration in the cabin.
The basic equipment of the bulldozer includes the following equipment:
- cooling system reservoir;
- muffler cap protecting from precipitation;
- air purifier with indicator;
- horn;
- fan;
- guard to protect road wheels;
- chair with elastic base.
Cabin structure
The operator's seat at the bulldozer (as standard) has panoramic glazing and creates a 360-degree view for the driver. A powerful filter system protects against dust getting inside the cabin. However, when developing sandy and silty soils, it barely copes. The cabin is equipped with a shock absorber system, and the workplace itself is represented by a chair with an elastic base. This solution reduces the impact of vibration on the driver.
The Komatsu D155A-5 is controlled by one joystick, which can be tilted in different directions to make the car move in any direction. The same joystick is responsible for changing gears - all you have to do is bend your wrist.
The blade position is also controlled using a convenient lever located on the right hand. The stroke length of the manipulator is directly proportional to the speed of movement of the working equipment, regardless of the direction and speed of movement of the entire machine. The combination of these two control systems creates a low barrier to entry for operators.
The condition of special equipment is monitored in real time by an on-board microcomputer. By monitoring the readings of sensors and control systems, it helps to notice deviations in mechanisms in a timely manner and prevent minor breakdowns from developing into major malfunctions. All instrument readings are displayed on a digital display.
If desired, a sealed cabin is installed on the bulldozer. It has a suspension with oil shock absorbers, and prevents almost complete penetration of vibrations to the driver. It also includes a system of air filters and fans, which prevents dust from entering the cabin, creating excess pressure.

Design and operating features
Komatsu D155A-5 has been on the market for a long time. During this time, it has proven itself to be a highly cost-effective bulldozer in any application. The excellent technical characteristics and reliability of the machine are due to its design features.
The model is based on a durable frame on which the main components are mounted. The flat bottom frame reduces the risk of equipment getting stuck on boulders and stumps and makes it easier to move over rough and swampy terrain. The pins prevent the formation of layers of dirt.
Komatsu's own D155A-5 chassis has an improved design. It is built on an elastic suspension, complemented by cross-shaped carriages. The undercarriage carries out independent oscillatory movements, and the track shoes continuously follow the ground contour, which improves traction. The cross-shaped carriage has a special rubber shock absorber that reduces vibration. At the same time, the rubber cushion and carriage exhibit their damping properties differently depending on the type of surface. On level ground the undercarriage behaves like a standard rigid undercarriage. On uneven ground, damping properties appear, which ensures comfortable movement and less wear on the bulldozer elements.
The Komatsu D155A-5 uses the CLSS closed-center hydraulic system, which is load-sensing. The characteristics of the hydraulic cylinders are piston with 2-way action. Hydraulic system capacity – 60 l.
The Komatsu D155A-5 is equipped with a 6-speed Torqflow hydromechanical transmission with smooth gear shifting under load (3 forward gears and 3 reverse gears). Switching speeds in manual mode and changing direction of movement is performed using a multifunction joystick. The turn is carried out by braking the caterpillar.
The braking system uses maintenance-free multi-disc wet brakes with a long service life. There is no need to make any adjustments to the system because its features ensure maximum performance. Onboard brakes are used as parking and service brakes. The neutral lock switch and the gear shift lock lever make working on the machine safer and prevent accidental movement of the equipment.
The Komatsu D155A-5 is equipped with a pressurized cabin, which uses air filters that create excess pressure in the cabin. Due to this, the dust level remains minimal. The new design provides visibility in all directions. The operator's working conditions remain comfortable by maintaining a constant temperature and low vibration in the cabin.
Convenience of management and diagnostics is ensured by an electronic monitoring panel, which provides information about faults and eliminates the occurrence of serious failures. The microcomputer evaluates the operation of the equipment and displays a wide range of readings (oil temperature, coolant temperature, battery charge level, fuel level, number of engine hours and other characteristics).
The main parts of the bulldozer are controlled by one joystick, which fits perfectly in the hand.
Maintenance of the Komatsu D155A-5 is simplified by the following solutions:
- cooling system expansion tank;
- maintenance-free disc brakes;
- side doors of the power plant with opening upwards;
- track belts with dust seals that prevent external materials from entering the gaps between the bushing and pin;
- a unified grouping of oil pressure control points.
Application area
By tradition, I will say a few words about where you can see a bulldozer at work. First of all, it is designed for layer-by-layer digging of soil.
To do this, a wide blade blade is installed in its front part, which cuts off the top layer of earth and then moves it in the direction of travel. This type of work is in demand in the construction or mining sectors.
Komatsu D 155 is used in the construction of dams, dams, the formation of future road surfaces, the construction of embankments, and the development of mineral resources.
Consequently, this machine can be found in the fleet of special equipment of companies that are engaged in road, repair and construction work, as well as laying canals and extracting natural resources from the bowels of the earth.
