Motoblocks "Belarus" MTZ-05: model description, technical characteristics

Review of 5 models of walk-behind tractors produced by MTZ and their analogues

Most machine-building enterprises in the USSR began to intensively produce models of compact equipment for processing small areas in the nineties of the last century - during the period that became a catalyst for the demand for mini-equipment for the active development of small farms.
By this time, the Minsk Tractor Plant, which began the development and production of compact equipment in 1978, was already producing small-sized tractors MTZ-082 and MTZ-112, as well as Belarus-05 walk-behind tractors.

Further production of walk-behind tractors was concentrated at a branch of the Minsk enterprise, the Smorgon Aggregate Plant, opened in the summer of 1986, located in the Grodno region.

The range of Minsk walk-behind tractors includes models of various capacities with indexes 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12. Among the listed units, at different times, models with indexes 05, 06, 08, 09 and 12 were in greatest demand.

Today, the main models of single-axle units produced by MTZ-Holding enterprises are machines with indexes 06 and 09.

The main advantages of self-propelled walk-behind tractors produced by MTZ:

  • a high level of versatility, allowing models to be combined with all types of attachments for soil cultivation and a large number of devices for utility and transport purposes, including utility brushes and augers for snow removal;
  • maneuverability, compactness, ease of operation and maintenance;
  • high repairability;
  • unpretentiousness to the quality of the fuel and lubricants used;
  • Availability of service and purchase of spare parts.

Motoblock Belarus MTZ-05

The first walk-behind tractor produced by MTZ, Belarus-05, produced from 1978 to 1992, was intended for pre-sowing preparation of light soils, cultivation and inter-row cultivation of potato and beet crops of a small area, as well as for mowing grass and transporting goods.

Design and engine

Built on a single-axle chassis, the unit, designed as an alternative to mini-tractors, transported a trailer with a load of up to half a ton and was equipped with a power take-off device with a rotation speed of 1000 rpm, allowing it to be used as a drive for stationary devices - pumps, feed choppers and woodworking machines. machine tools

The machine, the function of the frame of which is performed by the housings of the transmission units, worked with various types of attachments, including the KR-70 cultivator, PL-1 plow, PH-0.5 trailer, KN-1 mower, KO-2 hiller and BN-50 harrow .

The mechanical transmission unit of the 0.1 traction class machine with a multi-plate, oil-operated clutch allows the unit to move in four forward and two reverse gears, developing a transport speed of 9.6 km per hour and moving when performing work at a pace of 2.15 km per hour .

The unit is controlled using a rotating steering column and other organs that control the movement and operation of the machine, located in the upper part of the unit body.

Having three fixed track gauge positions (700, 600 and 425 mm), the model was equipped with a single-cylinder, four-stroke, carburetor, five-horsepower, gasoline-powered engine of the UD-15 series with a volume of 0.245 liters and a shaft rotation speed of 3000 rpm.

Some modifications of the block were supplied with a two-cylinder UD-25 power plant with an output of 8 horsepower.

Cost and analogues

The unit, serial production of which was discontinued in 1992, today, depending on its condition, can be purchased at a price of 10 to 20 thousand rubles.

The main competitors are MTZ-09N units and Ukrainian-made Motor Sich MB-8 and Zirka LX1080D vehicles.

Operating Parameters

Perhaps the characteristics of the MTZ-05 are not impressive for advanced farmers, but 5 liters was enough for me. With. four-stroke engine. In addition, the presence of 4 speeds for forward movement and 2 for reverse, high wheels and a differential lock makes operating the device convenient even on loose soils or plowing.

Motor

As standard, the walk-behind tractor was equipped with 5-horsepower UD-15 engines with one cylinder and overhead valves. The engine design was copied from the MEMZ-966 Zaporozhets model.

The working volume of the cylinder is 245 cm3. With a very modest torque of 12 N∙m, the engine produces 3600 rpm, which compensates for the lack of power by increasing the transmission ratio.

The engine runs on all types of gasoline, but when refueling with fuel with an octane rating of 92 and higher, it is necessary to reduce the volume of the combustion chamber. Fuel is supplied by a diaphragm-type fuel pump driven by a camshaft.

The UD15 motor is not currently sold in stores; you can buy it used or from storage (i.e. practically new). Its price largely depends on the condition and year of manufacture: from 3 to 16 thousand rubles.

Fuel consumption

I wouldn't say that the engine is fuel efficient. A gas tank with a capacity of 5 liters was emptied in less than 2.5 hours of operation not at maximum operating conditions. The passport data indicates gasoline consumption at 2 l/h or 448.8 g/kWh. Having worked a little magic with the carburetor, I achieved savings of about 15-20% of the original figure. However, this affected the torque and throttle response of the engine.

Clutch

The walk-behind tractor is equipped with a multi-plate “wet” clutch located in the oil bath of the transmission housing. It does an excellent job of transmitting torque to the input shaft of the gearbox.

The operation of the unit depends on the accuracy of the drive adjustment. If the cable tension is weak, spontaneous movement of the device occurs even when the handle is squeezed. Otherwise, if there is no free play, the walk-behind tractor may not budge or may not develop its rated power.

Transmission

The gearbox and drive axle were made with a large margin of safety. When working at loads not exceeding the recommended ones, I did not have any problems with the transmission.

To maintain the functionality of the unit, it is necessary to change the oil in a timely manner and also check its level. If leaks are detected, they are promptly eliminated by changing gaskets or cuffs.

Engine starting

In the standard version, the motor was equipped with a lever starting mechanism. But when operating the device in cold weather, it can be difficult to start the engine. This happens if the walk-behind tractor has been idle in the winter or the adjustment of the components has been disrupted.

Owners of MTZ-05 install an electric starter on it to facilitate starting a cold engine. At the same time, the battery and wires are mounted on the device.

Medium-heavy walk-behind tractor MTZ-06

MTZ-06 is one of the most prominent representatives of the family of single-axle units, the main area of application of which is the use for agricultural work on personal plots and small farms.

The air-cooled engine is equipped with oil-based air cleaning and gas distribution systems, as well as an easy-start device.

The engine is started manually.

Design

The ability to install cutters and wheels on the unit expands the functionality of the model and allows it to be used for cultivation, pre-sowing soil preparation and processing of crops of various agricultural crops.

The design of the model allows you to install ballast weights on the machine and change the wheel track width.

In order to increase the comfort of the operator during operation of the unit, the unit is equipped with a vibration-reducing support installed in the steering rod and vibration-isolating handles.

Adapted to the climate conditions of post-Soviet countries, the machine is equipped with a multi-disc transmission module with gears running in oil that ensures smooth running.

The car moves in two gears forward and one in reverse, reaching a speed of 15 km per hour in transport mode.

Autonomously moving wheels allow you to turn the unit effortlessly at an angle of up to 240 degrees.

The differentials, which reduce the turning radius, also serve to increase the wheelbase, providing the model with greater maneuverability and stability.

Cost and analogues

The new MTZ-06 MKR, analogues of which are walk-behind tractors of the MTZ line and other units of domestic and foreign production with similar performance characteristics, depending on the completeness of trailed equipment, can be purchased at a price of 56 to 90 thousand rubles.

Purpose of the walk-behind tractor

The main purpose of the Belarus 09N walk-behind tractor is to carry out agricultural work. It is used in small farms and private households, the area of which does not exceed 5 hectares. It is not advisable to hire a tractor to cultivate such an area, even if it comes in a mini version.

This model of walk-behind tractor, like any other, is equipped with the ability to change attachments, which are supplied in the kit. You can use it to do the following:

Motoblock MTZ 09N

Reviews

Owners of the Belarus 09N walk-behind tractor have different opinions about the performance of this equipment.

Some call it an indispensable assistant for any farmer and summer resident, and among its advantages are its economical and reliable unit and versatility.

The model’s power is enough to perform most operations, and its well-calculated weight allows it to work without noticeable slippage on almost any soil.

Many owners call Belarus 09N the most reliable in its segment. The steering wheel lock and good traction of the wheels with the ground allow you to operate the model without much stress.

Correct adjustment is extremely important for this walk-behind tractor. In this case, you can simply put it in the furrow and go to meet the equipment at the other end of the site.

The machine will do all the work on its own.

There will also be no serious problems with servicing the model, since it has no complaints about fuel. Certain difficulties arise only when the power plant breaks down. Branded parts or replacements for them are very difficult to find. Previous MTZ walk-behind tractors used simpler units (UD-15), which made operation easier.

At the same time, the model remains “indestructible”. Huge loads and difficult working conditions will not be an obstacle for the Belarus 09N. The resource of this walk-behind tractor is truly impressive.

Owners of Belarus 09N also note more obvious shortcomings. For its segment, the walk-behind tractor is quite expensive and is noticeably higher in price than its competitors. Among other negative aspects, owners highlight:

  • long installation of attachments;
  • problems with disabling the differential lock;
  • Difficulty shifting gears. This problem is typical for most domestic and imported walk-behind tractors, since the transmissions in them are not synchronized.

Also, not everyone likes the appearance of the MTZ Belarus 09N model, which looks like an old Soviet mini tractor. Modern analogues (“Neva”, “Bison”) look much more respectable. However, the manufacturer chose completely different parameters as priorities - reliability and power. According to them, Belarus 09N is one of the leaders in the segment.

Price of new and used MTZ 09N with Honda engine

There are many used versions of this equipment on the market. Here the cost varies from 50,000 to 100,000 rubles depending on the condition, year of manufacture and additional equipment.

There is no rental of this equipment on the market.

Analogs

Analogs of the Belarus 09N walk-behind tractor include the Chinese Grasshopper 9 hp, the cost of which is several times less than its Belarusian competitor. Also analogues of the model are the Zubr (8 hp), Neva and Centaur MB 2075D vehicles.

Preparing the MTZ walk-behind tractor for plowing

The Belarusian MTZ walk-behind tractor performs one of the key functions - plowing the soil.
For equipment to work efficiently, it must be adjusted correctly. Tips for preparing the walk-behind tractor for work:

  • “hitch-walk-behind tractor” connection. The hitch is secured with one pin, maintaining play in a horizontal position in the range of 5-6 degrees. It is not recommended to fix the hitch with two pins or completely eliminate the play; this will lead to a rigid connection;
  • setting the required plowing depth - optimally up to 7 cm. For this purpose, rearrange the plow stand relative to the lock. Fixation is carried out using a bolted connection. To perform such actions, the rack must have appropriate holes;
  • changing the angle of attack. This is done using an adjusting bolt or rearranging bolted connections. The first method is much more convenient. The walk-behind tractor with the plow is placed on a flat surface. The screw is unscrewed until the plow's bottom surface touches the ground. Then it scrolls in the opposite direction until the back of the plow rises by 2-3 cm;
  • furrow adjustment The first furrow should be as straight as possible. To compensate for the tilt when entering a furrow, the function of turning the hitch at a small angle is used;
  • choice of wheels with weights. For optimal linear speed their diameter should be 500 mm.

Video examples will help you quickly cope with equipment settings. When preparing, it is worth considering the power of a diesel/gasoline walk-behind tractor, as well as its weight.

The Belarus-09N walk-behind tractor is a walk-behind tractor consisting of a 4-stroke single-cylinder engine, a power transmission and a reversible steering rod. The engine is attached to the clutch housing. The wheels are equipped with pneumatic tires. A special hitch is provided for hanging equipment. The fuel tank is installed on the engine.

The operating procedure of the walk-behind tractor when planting potatoes

Plow the area to a depth of 20 cm and cultivate to a depth of 10 cm. Fertilize the soil, that is, spread organic fertilizer over the area. Potatoes can be planted at row spacings of up to 700 mm. The optimal width is 550-600 mm, since one row of potatoes can be planted after 2 passes of the plow.

Before planting, install stakes and form a felling ridge, on both sides of which plant potatoes every 15-20 cm, laying them on the fallen layer closer to the bottom of the furrow and leaving an area for the walk-behind tractor wheel to pass through. After two passes with the plow, plant the potatoes again.

How to check the working width of a plow

It is necessary to drive a peg at a distance of 150 cm from the edge of the furrow on unplowed soil, measure the distance from it to the edge of the furrow Measure the distance to the edge of the furrow after two passes (for example, it turned out to be 92 cm) The difference between the first and second measurements (for example, 150-92 =58 cm) should be from 55 to 60 cm. In my example, the optimal width between the rows is 58 cm, since the 600 mm track will correspond to the row spacing. If you get a value less than 55 cm, then you need to increase the working width of the plow; if it is more than 60 cm, reduce it.

Device

The design of the walk-behind tractor has a classic design. A gasoline engine, fuel tank, clutch, gearbox and power take-off shaft are mounted on a metal frame. The platform is based on a single-axle bridge with two pneumatic wheels. To control the unit, special handles and a steering column, adjustable in various planes, are used. Thanks to the presence of a coupling device, it is possible to use the walk-behind tractor with various mounted and towed devices.

Self-propelled gardening equipment was specially designed for Russian users. The gearbox is designed in such a way that it can easily move with little physical effort on plowed and heavy soil.

A high degree of reliability, a large number of teeth on the planetary gear, an improved differential and much more allows the walk-behind tractor to compete with world analogues. The walk-behind tractor is easy to control due to wide wheels and a new, improved steering rack. This model comes with the following addition:

  • Large universal plow.
  • Special soil cutter.
  • Harrow and cultivator.
  • Rotary mower.

  • Motoblock trailer.
  • Additional weights.
  • Adapter with seat.
  • Mounted blade.

The main advantages of the walk-behind tractor

Most owners of this device have high reliability in this segment.

Excellent traction of the wheels with the soil, good steering lock and much more make it possible to control the walk-behind tractor without much stress.

The most important thing is to initially set up and adjust correctly, then all you have to do is place the equipment on the furrow and go to the other end of the garden area to meet the device. The walk-behind tractor will do all the work for you.

  • High-strength body made of cast iron.
  • No cables.

  • Cast iron gearbox.
  • Reverse.
  • Good weight.
  • Ergonomic handle.
  • Low fuel consumption.
  • Low noise level.
  • Adjusting engine speed.
  • Pneumatic wheels.

The device is reliable and convenient to use. Allows you to save time due to mechanical versatility in basic agricultural tasks.

As for servicing equipment, as many experienced specialists note, no problems arise, and there are no complaints about fuel. Unlike analogues, components and parts are easy to find, which cannot be said about imported walk-behind tractors, even low-class ones.

It is worth noting that many who have already used the walk-behind tractor call it “indestructible”. Heavy, prolonged loads and sometimes poor natural conditions are not an obstacle for the Belarus 09N-01 walk-behind tractor. Having purchased this model, you will be surprised by its working life, it is guaranteed to be impressive. Perhaps one of the shortcomings that is hidden by its reliability is the high price in its segment.

Among the disadvantages are the following:

  • Difficult and time-consuming installation of any attachments supplied in the kit.
  • According to many, there is a spontaneous disconnection of the differential.
  • There are difficulties with shifting the gearbox. It is worth noting that many experts note this disadvantage in almost all imported and Russian models of walk-behind tractors, because the transmission in most models is not synchronized.

  • Perhaps this is not a minus - the appearance of the walk-behind tractor model is not very beautiful and many compare it with an old Soviet tractor. Similar models of walk-behind tractors such as Zubr or Neva, according to many, look much more respectable. However, as the manufacturer of these walk-behind tractors notes, their main task is not a beautiful appearance, but its performance characteristics. In terms of power and reliability, the walk-behind tractor model is not inferior to any imported analogue, which may cost much more.

Price for new model

For its line of walk-behind tractors and unlike imported analogues, the device model is built relatively inexpensively. The maximum configuration will cost the consumer up to 100 thousand rubles. The average one costs up to 80 thousand, and the minimum one costs up to 50 thousand rubles. In models with installed Honda engines, walk-behind tractors may be more expensive.
