YuMZ-6 is a model of multifunctional wheeled tractors intended for industry and agriculture.
This special equipment was produced by the Southern Machine-Building Plant in 1966-2001 in a variety of versions, noticeably different from each other. The first copy of the YuMZ-6 rolled off the assembly line back in 1966. The basis for the creation of this model was the MTZ-5 tractor, which the Southern Machine-Building Plant had been producing since 1958. YuMZ-6 turned out to be much more similar to it than MTZ-50.

The model, launched into production in 1966, became a real legend of the USSR. At that time the country was going through difficult years and felt an urgent need to develop virgin lands. The Southern Machine-Building Plant was created in 1944 as a production center for space and military developments. Naturally, the quality of non-core products (tractors) was very significant.

Just 2 years later, the 100,000th YuMZ-6 rolled off the plant’s assembly line. High technical characteristics and performance qualities made the model very popular. An additional advantage of the YuMZ-6 was its simplicity of design.

The main areas of application of the tractor were industry, agriculture and construction. However, the model has also been used by utilities.

The D 65 diesel engine is a product of the Rybinsk Aviation Plant. The power unit was recognized as one of the best engines installed on domestically produced tractor equipment. Thus, the YuMZ-6 tractors, which were produced by the Southern Machine-Building Plant, were the first among domestic equipment of this level to receive a quality mark and were recognized as the best machines of the year. They had a long service life, as they were equipped with D 65N diesel units, the production of which at that time was carried out at a completely defense enterprise.

The operation manual contains a list of routine maintenance and frequency of execution. The service life of the machine and its trouble-free operation depend on compliance with the frequency of maintenance. The list of works includes adjusting the gas distribution mechanism, adjusting the clutch and periodically replacing the lubricant in the crankcases of the power unit and transmission.

Before starting plowing work, adjustment of the YuMZ-6 plow is required. The adjustment is performed on the adjustment platform before the machine leaves the field. The left side of the tractor and the plow wheel are located on wooden wedges. The height of the wedge is equal to the plowing depth minus the distance of 20-40 mm. After this, the ploughshare is brought into contact with the surface of the platform and the support roller is lowered with a screw until it contacts the wedge. The plow is then leveled by the right and center adjustment rod.

History of creation

Even during the Great Patriotic War, construction of a large automobile plant began in Dnepropetrovsk. Later, the specialization of the enterprise was changed, and it switched to the production of products of the military-industrial complex. "Southern Machine-Building Plant" became one of the leading enterprises of the Soviet military-industrial complex. The production of rocketry, spacecraft, engines was established here. Along with military products, Yuzhmash also produced civilian equipment - equipment, tractors.

The YuMZ-6 tractor model was based on the concept of the MTZ-5 “Belarus” machine, produced by the Minsk Tractor Plant. The modernized and modified design turned out to be very successful and in demand. The main part of the model’s skeleton was two channels, rigidly coupled with a beam, or a frame with an engine, rear axle, clutch and gearbox attached to it. Design

The tractor is built according to the classic “tractor” concept. The basis of the structure is a half-frame welded from a pair of channels and a cross beam.
