Cars that violate parking rules are usually towed. We often witness how tow trucks use the boom of a compact manipulator to lift a neatly hung car in order to quickly load it onto a platform for further transportation. Everything, as a rule, happens quickly, and sometimes even unnoticed. But what if the vehicle is not a passenger car and, moreover, has a non-standard shape and a lot of weight? Simply put, what if you need a tractor to load and transport? What does evacuation technology look like then?
Of course, it is difficult to imagine such a “malicious violator” of parking rules as a tractor. Rather, transportation on a trailer may be necessary if some kind of technical malfunction occurs with this vehicle. However, this does not change the essence of the matter: this vehicle needs to be loaded, its delivery around the city to the repair site needs to be organized, and a tow truck for a tractor must have more serious lifting capabilities. How to choose a tow truck for a tractor
If we are talking about large-sized special equipment, for example, about the Belarus brand (MTZ 82.1), whose weight is 3.75 tons, then an ordinary trailer with a 5-ton carrying capacity will be enough to evacuate it. In case of evacuation and transportation of oversized, heavy tractors, the following are used:
- firstly, more powerful manipulators (with a boom lifting capacity of up to 12.5 tons), or independent cranes;
- and secondly, trawls or low-loaders: 45-ton front-loading semi-trailers; 53.8 tonne rear loading semi-trailers; 70-ton semi-trailers, where loading can be carried out from both sides.
Documents for transportation
Tractors, as a type of vehicle, belong to the category of special equipment, which means they must be registered with Gostekhnadzor. In the absence of appropriate papers, the cars are considered stolen. Therefore, for their transportation you will need the following documents:
- vehicle passport;
- certificate of vehicle registration in Gostekhnadzor;
- rights and power of attorney if the special transport is driven by the owner’s authorized representative.
If the car is on the balance sheet of a legal entity, then additionally certified by the seal of the organization:
- waybill;
- waybill.
To transport oversized equipment (the dimensions of which, together with the platform-trailer, exceed 20x2.55x4 m in length-width-height), you will additionally need a transportation permit from the traffic police. The carrier also needs to develop and agree on a route for one or several trips with the same type of technical parameters and also have it certified by the traffic police.

How to transport a tractor without documents on a tow truck
Sometimes the special equipment being moved (in particular, a tractor) does not have documents with it. This can happen for several reasons:
- the new owner of the equipment has not yet managed to register the tractor;
- old Soviet-made tractors often simply do not have documents - they were lost due to repeated social changes and looting of the collective farm accounting offices and motorcades to which these tractors were assigned;
- agricultural tractors are sometimes already written off and do not have any accompanying documentation;
- The tractor has been sold and is being transported for disassembly for spare parts.
If a traffic police officer stops such a tractor during transportation, then in order for the equipment not to be immediately confiscated to the impound lot with the wording “until clarification”, it must be accompanied by a completed consignment note, and the driver of the trailer must have a waybill with him.
If the car is new and its registration has not yet been completed, then this process must be completed, “fresh” documents must be presented, and the tractor can be picked up from the special parking lot. In all other cases the situation is much more complicated.
How is transportation carried out?

- Load capacity. There are light (for objects up to 25 tons), medium-lifting modules - up to 45 tons, super-heavy modules - lifting up to 110 tons.

- Suspension type: hydraulic, spring, rigid, pneumatic, balanced.
- Number of axes. The average weight category should have from 1 to 5 axles. In the case of heavy low-loading platforms - over 10.
As additional equipment, it is customary to use expanders, ramps and winches. The object is placed on the platform, then it is secured so that it does not slide when moving. Sliding platforms are used for this.

Stopped a tow truck with a tractor
Any law enforcement officer (traffic police officer) has the right to stop a tractor transported on a trailer to check documents. If everything is not in order with the papers, then a detention report is drawn up and the equipment is seized until its owner proves legal ownership of it. Only then can the tractor be picked up from the impound lot.
In general, the situation of transporting old equipment without documents is the most dangerous for its owners. Walking past the impound lot, you can see excavators, tractors and cranes on it, obviously from Soviet times, which have been standing there for years. Indeed, how can a new owner prove his ownership of such special equipment if the documents for it were lost many years ago, and the equipment itself was bought in cash or even picked up for free, on a self-pickup basis?
If a traffic police officer confiscates special equipment due to the lack of documents for it, the only thing left for the owner is to resolve the issue through the court. Required:
- Collect and attach to the claim all the documents that accompanied the transaction (this could even be the stubs of expense orders, if there is nothing else). Therefore, such large-scale special transport as a tractor (even if it is a pile of scrap metal) is strongly recommended to be purchased with the obligatory conclusion of a contract.
- Bring to court all witnesses and participants in the transaction. And this is the most difficult thing, because often such equipment is sold for cash, moreover, paid for “privately”. Few former state farm machine operators will want to admit that they “pushed,” in principle, an unnecessary pile of scrap metal, but for a bribe. Bring those witnesses who you can persuade to confirm the fact of legal agreements with officials on the sale of this special equipment to you.
It is impossible to assess the chances of the owner of such a tractor without documents to succeed in court in advance. It all depends on how convincing the evidence collected is. But any judge in this case proceeds from the fact that the equipment was taken somewhere cheap (that is, there was a veiled theft), and therefore it will be necessary to prove the fact of legal sale.

Tractors are fairly mobile vehicles that (unlike combine harvesters or some types of road construction equipment) do not require preliminary disassembly. However, depending on their purpose, their dimensions may exceed the maximum permissible for vehicles participating in road traffic. And if such a vehicle cannot move independently for some reason, then the cargo platform for its transportation must be oversized. It is quite logical that the algorithms for the actions of tow truck operators when transporting tractors differ if the vehicle is less than 2.5 meters wide and if it exceeds this value. Let's look at them in more detail:
- Agricultural machinery is usually oversized.
However, this type of evacuation and transportation is highly seasonal (for obvious reasons). Therefore, most often we are talking about moving tractors weighing up to 5 tons. For their evacuation, trailers with manipulators of appropriate lifting capacity are used. The procedure for loading onto a platform is no different from a similar process with passenger cars, except that the reach of the manipulator boom will be less. The transportation process itself is as follows:
