Tractor T 25 is an excellent choice for private farming

Although the photo of the T 25 tractor may seem like it is an outdated model, even in modern conditions it still has great potential. And there are a huge number of reasons for this. Several years before the appearance of the T-25 tractor on the market, the Soviet Union experienced an active increase in the number of greenhouse, agricultural and horticultural enterprises. Since workers could not manually maintain large fields, the designers had to develop special equipment to simplify maintenance. At that time, it was necessary to develop a small but easily controlled tractor that did not require the installation of a high-performance engine, but could still guarantee sufficient power reserves to perform a large number of jobs.

Purpose

The Vladimir Tractor Plant developed the T-25 model to serve huge fields. The special equipment is simple. For example, for a long period of time, a tractor was used for digging trenches, clearing snow from sidewalks, clearing debris, and so on. A large number of models of attachments makes this tractor a universal tool for performing a huge range of operations.

Practicality of the T-25 tractor

When you have already decided on a budget, a good option to start with is the T-25, because firstly, it has proven itself to be a simple and indestructible tractor, which is much more reliable in operation than the Chinese or MTZ-321.

Tractors such as the T-25 are easy to repair and spare parts for it are available in almost any store.

It is better to buy tractors from the owner in what condition they are, rather than to buy refurbished tractors from those who do repairs. The owner, he will not hide the real condition of the machine, and for those resellers who repair tractors for resale, the main thing for them is to sell and, in principle, they will not bear any responsibility for this.

Also, because even if something needs to be repaired and repaired, the T-25 does not have any complex parts in principle.

Yes, and for studying it will be useful to see the operation of the mechanisms, how and what is arranged in the tractor. And you don’t have to be afraid that the tractor is old. Whether a tractor is old or not depends not on the age, but on the careful use.

Specifications

The engine of the D21A1 model is installed on the base of this tractor. The towing class is 6 kilograms. The engine generates 26 and a half horsepower. There are eight gears for forward movement and six for reverse. The track varies between 120-140 centimeters. Thanks to the thoughtful design of the T 25 tractor, its technical characteristics have allowed it to become almost the best option in its class. The total weight of the equipment is 2020 kilograms, while the maximum speed was 21 kilometers per hour. One kilowatt-hour of power consumes 223 grams of diesel fuel. A well-thought-out base allows you to install additional attachments, the weight of which is no more than 600 kilograms. The power take-off shaft can rotate at speeds of up to 540 rpm.

Engine characteristics

The presented model is equipped with a durable four-stroke engine, which has an air cooling system. The number of cylinders varies from two to six. Most of the details are unified. The T-25 model with a two-cylinder D21A1 engine is popular. The simplicity of the design, unpretentiousness to the quality of the fuel mixture and the maintainability of the design made it possible to quickly and always efficiently service the mechanism. A unique feature is the presence of a dual lubrication system. But to maintain the normal condition of the engine, prolonged idling should be avoided. The unit is fixed on 3 supports. The front pair is rigidly fixed to the engine and mounted on a special half-frame, which has rubber cushions. The rear part is connected to the connecting unit through the crankcase flange present in the flywheel.

Cabin

This machine was presented on the market in several configuration options. The basic one included a fully glazed cabin with metal racks, inside of which there was heating from a hydraulic system. The seat and steering column are adjustable. Options were presented on the market that included an awning and a roll cage. However, the design always included the possibility of installing a conventional cabin.

Fuel consumption

One kilowatt-hour of power requires an average of 223 grams of diesel fuel. The average consumption is influenced by the condition of the power unit and fuel supply system, the quality of the mixture, and the frequency of pressing the gas pedal.

Cabin

The hero of our conversation was configured as a single-seat cabin with two doors. The safety of the operator was ensured by a frame that reliably strengthened the workplace. Thanks to wide rear-view mirrors and panoramic windows, the driver has excellent visibility. The seat and steering column can change their position. The range of adjustments is small, but the very fact that they exist is already worthy of respect for a tractor of that time. Comfortable work at any time of the year was ensured by a powerful heating and ventilation system.

Device

The design of the model has a number of characteristic features. For example, a multi-speed gearbox, sprung suspension, and a universal hitch system in the rear are installed. The lugs have a bearing area that varies from 25 to 35 percent. The increased height of the lugs has significantly increased the traction capacity of the tractor. However, some difficulties may arise in the process of processing wet soil. A two-stroke engine weighs on average 300 kilograms. The final figure depends on the configuration offered by the equipment manufacturer. The unit is still produced on the territory of the Vladimir Tractor Plant.

Trailed units for the compact assistant

The versatility and multifunctionality in the use of the T-25 or Vladimirovets is ensured by the equipment used for aggregation:

  • harrow;
  • rotary mower;
  • ripper;
  • cultivator;
  • sprayer;
  • potato hiller;
  • roll wrapper;
  • mower;
  • stacker;
  • plow;
  • seeder;
  • trailer;
  • mounted forks;
  • potato digger;
  • cutter;
  • press;
  • baler;
  • kun;
  • front loader;
  • disc harrow;
  • trailed tedder;
  • dump;
  • fertilizer diffuser;
  • front shovel.

To further expand the capabilities, machine operators manually manufactured units (trailed and mounted), which were not mass-produced and were more productive in design than factory samples:

  • a homemade three-body cultivator with increased dimensions for the T-25;
  • homemade productive potato planter;
  • homemade with a large volume of kun;
  • mounted excavator;
  • homemade plow, with settings that allow you to increase the processing area;
  • mounted bulldozer device;
  • homemade digger for vegetables.

Advantages and disadvantages

From the photo of the T 25 tractor it is difficult to determine any positive or negative aspects of it. According to experts, the presented model allows you to take advantage of the following advantages: • very simple design. If you have all the necessary tools and special instructions, the owner can repair the equipment himself without resorting to the help of professionals; • long service life. Some specimens, manufactured back in the 60s of the last century, are still in use by domestic agricultural enterprises. Thus, when purchasing this tractor, you can always count on long-term use without unnecessary problems; • Ease of Management. Levers and buttons are conveniently located; • unpretentiousness to the quality of the fuel mixture. There are two disadvantages. The first concerns lovers of aesthetics - the appearance of the T-25 tractor is morally outdated. But this does not stop him from working in Russian fields and vegetable gardens. The second drawback concerns problematic operation on wet soil. In such cases, you have to double the wheels, install wide-profile tires, or slightly reduce the tire pressure.

What to look for when choosing a tractor:

Engine

The engine is the heart of our tractor. If you come to buy a tractor, how can you determine the engine's performance?

Well, of course, ideally it would be good to check the engine compression, remove the pan, drain the oil, unscrew the yokes and measure the thickness of the journals. If you have such an opportunity, of course, do this before buying a tractor, if the owner allows you.

I’ll say right away that if you decide to do this, then download in advance all possible tables on crankshaft tolerances, because the crankshafts are different. have different tolerances, they were made differently in different years, there should be a crankshaft marking on the crankshaft and from the plate you can easily find what tolerances are and what thickness the crankshaft connecting rod and main journals should be.

Check for cracks:

Pay attention to the presence of all oil leaks on the NSh-21 (gear pump), on the gearbox, on the engine from under the cylinders, and on the high-pressure hoses.

on the rear lifts, the presence of cracks on the clutch housing, then onboard and it is especially important that there are no cracks on the gearbox,

in general, look carefully at any oil leaks you see; if it’s hard to see and you’re in doubt, it’s better to remove the dirt with a knife or screwdriver.

Light

check all the electrical wiring with the tractor running, the lights and turn signals - all this should blink and work, then get out of the tractor, remove the positive terminal and check the operation of the generator.

Box and distributor

With the tractor running, check the gearbox.

Then, after starting the tractor, check the oil pressure, first of all, it should press around 3-4 atm. when cold, when the engine has warmed up, there should be 2-3 atmospheres.

then take it and check the distributor, when it lifts the hitch it should return to its original position

Next, check the box without load, slowly switch all the speeds. Don’t be shy: the tractor eats a little, you can do it quite well and for a long time.

Ask if the owner has a cart like a 2PTS4 trailer, ask him to hook up the trailer and check the operation of the box under load.

The speeds should not go out - if the speeds go out, then you will need to remove the cabin, climb into the box, change the gears.

This is quite troublesome and expensive because you have to disassemble the floor of the tractor.

Hitch

Then, after you’ve looked at all this, move on to the hitch, see what condition the hitch is in, check its functionality, and how the pump lifts quickly or slowly.

Next, look at the equipment; there should also be no fuel leaks from it.

Rubber

Be sure to check the condition of the tires - all rubber on the tractor must be in good condition. Replacing tires is quite expensive even on the T25.

Modifications

The T-25 tractor has been modernized several times. All models in the line did not differ significantly from the basic version. There were changes, of course, but very minor.

Below are the most notable modifications:

  • T-25A2. Roughly speaking, this is a lightweight version of the initial version. By replacing the cabin with a canvas awning, the designers were able to slightly reduce the weight of the car. On the one hand, this increased the functionality of the tractor. But on the other hand, this measure excluded the possibility of using the device in winter. In this case, the designers have provided the opportunity to replace the awning with a metal cabin. However, as reviews show, no one did this. Most farmers operated the tractor only in the warm season. This is not a Klintsy 25-T crane, the technical characteristics of which allow it to work all year round.
  • T-25A3. When creating this modification, the designers paid special attention to driver safety. The cabin received a more reliable frame. Thanks to this, in the event of a tractor overturning, the operator did not have to worry about his health. At the same time, the body of this version has a more modern look.
  • T-25K. This model was developed specifically for working in fields where tall crops grow. The power and functionality of the car remained the same, but its ground clearance was increased to one and a half meters.
