Basic adjustments of the Don-680 forage harvester

Don 680M is a modern forage harvester that can compete with foreign analogues. In terms of price-quality ratio, special equipment is one of the best offers on the domestic market. The history of the model began in 1986, when the Soviet government tried to focus on improving the agricultural industry. The first versions of Don appeared on the fields of the country and showed their best side. The combine was modernized several times and in 2006 it launched a modern modification of the model - Don 680M. The machine has significantly added productivity and work comfort, allowing you to harvest up to 30,000 tons of green feed and silage per season.

Purpose

Don 680M is a multifunctional machine designed for medium and small enterprises with a cattle population of up to 500 heads. On large farms the machine can be used for daily feeding. During testing, which took place in 5 agroclimatic zones, the model demonstrated high efficiency regardless of harvesting conditions. The Don 680M coped well with mowing grass and preparing feed (silage, haylage, green fodder). The model also performed well in mowing corn with waxy grain. Losses during operation were minimal.

Price of the Don-680 combine

Rostselmash dealers offer the new Don-680M combine harvester at a price starting from 3,400,000 rubles (with a set of adapters). Approximate prices for used Don-680 and Don-680M combines are as follows: 2008-2009 model years - about 1-1.5 million; early 2000s - 600-800 thousand rubles.

"Don-680" from the early 2000s.

One of the most important conditions for the successful procurement of high-quality feed is the timeliness of the work performed. Compliance with the deadlines for harvesting and laying silage and haylage is a guarantee of maintaining the nutritional value of the feed mass in full, and, accordingly, a significant increase in livestock productivity. A high-performance combine can most successfully cope with such an important economic task. Such as "Don-680" and "Don-680M".

Modifications and features

Don 680M is the latest modification of the series. Compared to its predecessors, the model has better characteristics. Among the main competitors of the equipment are the RSM 1401, Polesie FS60 and Claas Jaguar 830 combines.

Don 680M has many advantages, among which are:

  • 3-mode grinding of the collected mass (3.5/8/20 mm). The required dimension is selected by the operator from the operator's cabin without directly changing knives. Together with the additional grinder, this functionality significantly improves the quality of the prepared feed. With a preservative application system in place, the operator can immediately begin preparing silage;
  • economical even at maximum load. For 1000 kg of harvested corn, the equipment requires approximately 0.45 liters of fuel. The chopper drive is connected directly to the engine shaft, which reduces fuel consumption;
  • significant performance. The machine is adapted for operation in any climatic zones, including arid regions;
  • minimal loss of forage mass even in gusty winds thanks to the pressure springs available on the pick-up;
  • mechanism for copying surface relief;
  • unification with other products is 60%, which facilitates the process of repair and replacement of parts;
  • low cost;
  • warranty service for 2 years or 1200 operating hours.

Disadvantages of Don 680M:

  • The harvester is inferior in power to most foreign analogues;
  • the quality of the prepared feed is lower than that of Western competitors, which is due to the smaller number of knives on the chopping drum;
  • Complaints are caused by rubbing elements: pulleys, gears, sprockets. They require regular replacement.

Owner reviews about Don-680 combines

Owners of forage harvesters of this brand characterize it as an extremely easy to operate and reliable machine. All basic operations for the operation and maintenance of the Don-680 do not require special knowledge or any special tools or equipment. The machine operator will only need to spend no more than ten minutes preparing the combine for the next work shift.

One of the main advantages of the Don-680 combine is its ability to work efficiently and productively even in the most difficult conditions. In particular, on irregularly planted corn, with stunted or thick, intertwined stalks, with fragile and crumbling windrows, on uneven fields, in strong winds - all this does not interfere with the operation of the Don-680.

Among the shortcomings, the quality of assembly and spare parts is not always good. Periodic failure of individual parts (pulleys, sprockets, etc.) requires regular expenses for their purchase and replacement. But in general, we can conclude that the Don-680 both costs and is much cheaper to maintain than its imported classmates.

Cabin overview

The combine cabin has its own name - Comfort Cab. It contains one operator's seat with individual air suspension. By default, the cabin is equipped with air conditioning, a refrigerator and audio preparation. The entire steering column, as well as the eco-leather-covered seat, are adjustable in several directions, so that a driver of any height will be comfortable in the workplace. To the right of the operator is a touchscreen information panel, which displays the main operating indicators of all systems.

Design and operating features

The Don 680M is distinguished by its durable drive wheel axle, reliable hydrostatic transmission and simple drive kinematics, which makes it possible to use it in off-road conditions. Proven solutions extend the life of the machine, so frequent breakdowns are not typical for it. The technology uses hydrostatic transmission. An all-wheel drive version of the combine with steering wheels additionally equipped with hydraulic motors is functionally available.

Main elements of Don 680M:

  • reaping part. Several types of adapters are offered for the model. The MH 400R rotary header with a supportless cutting device is used for harvesting corn, sunflower and rapeseed (working width – 4000 mm, cutting height – 170 mm). The KEMPER 445 header has similar characteristics, but is supplemented with a transportation kit (working width – 4500 mm). Segment-finger apparatus GH 500A for working with thin-stemmed crops (working width – 5000 mm, cutting height – 50-150 mm). The adapter can be used for direct harvesting of grain haylage and is equipped with a relief copying mechanism. Pick-up platform PF 300 for harvesting plant material and placing it in windrows (working width – 3000 mm, productivity – 17 kg/sec);
  • chopping drum with cutting elements (V-shaped arrangement). The design of the drum provides for constant contact of the knives with the shear plates. Due to this, uninterrupted grinding of the incoming mass is achieved. The basic configuration includes a regrinder, which crushes 96% of the grains to the required level. Thanks to this, feed with a high content of nutrients is obtained;
  • silo pipe with the ability to rotate 180 degrees. This functionality and the canopy extension allow unloading into vehicles with low sides, reducing losses. The unloading accelerator provides high-speed movement of the crushed mass for more dense loading into the machine.

Don 680M is equipped with a modern all-metal operator's cabin COMFORT CAB, installed in the center. The progressive layout together with panoramic glazing ensures optimal visibility. The operator's cabin is dust-, vibration- and noise-insulated. The steering column and driver's seat are adjusted taking into account the anatomical features of the operator. The operator's sprung seat allows you to sit with maximum comfort; again, there is an additional folding seat with a soft cushion. As standard, the operator's cabin is equipped with air conditioning, audio equipment, power steering, a refrigerator compartment for drinks, tinted windows and a heater. The operator controls the working parts using a joystick located at the right hand. The handles have controls for the header, rotation of the silage chute, feeder and silage chute. On the right side, again, are the main controls. The buttons on the panel are supplemented with pictograms for better perception. On the right is a specialized information panel “PP-D80-01”. The operation of the units is controlled by a computer that displays information on an LCD monitor. In the upper area of the operator's cabin, powerful halogen headlights (10 pieces) are installed, providing the ability to work in the dark.

Replacement adapters for the Don-680 combine

The list of main adapters intended for harvesting various crops for the Don-680 combine is as follows: headers for harvesting coarse crops - two types; grass harvester and windrow pick-up.

Coarse headers

Headers for coarse crops (corn, sunflower, sorghum) are equipped with support-free cutting devices for a continuous cut, and differ in cutting width: there is a 4-meter header (for 6 rows of corn), and there is one with a width of 4.5 meters. Three spacer rollers and divider guides enable the Don-680 rotary headers to work with equal stability in both high-yield and low-yield areas of fields.

Grass harvester

The grass harvesting header has a five-meter working width and is designed for mowing any thin-stemmed crops. It is frontal, with a hinged and balanced part. The grass harvester is used when mowing thin-stemmed crops up to one and a half meters high.

This adapter consists of a housing, a four-bladed rake reel, a cutting device, an auger, shoes, a balancing mechanism and gear mechanisms.

The continuous cut grass header is equipped as standard with a mechanism for balancing the cutting height on uneven fields and a safety clutch that is activated at peak loads.

Overall dimensions of the grass header:

  • length – 2.54 m;
  • width – 5.275 m;
  • height –1.28 m.

Structural weight, with individual spare parts package – 1.7 tons.

Roll pick-up platform

The windrow pick-up is designed for harvesting haylage. It produces a selection of wet or dried grasses that have already been mowed and formed into windrows. The pick-up has a drum-rake device, with a narrowing of the feed flow. The working width of the Don-680 pick-up is three meters. The throughput capacity of the Don-680 pick-up is 17 kg per second.

The platform and the pick-up mechanism are connected to each other by hinges. The pick-up consists of a frame, picking and pressing devices, support wheels, shield, hitch, left and right sidewalls.

The picking device consists of a shaft with holders attached to it, onto which spring teeth are bolted. The rollers are installed in the treadmill, which is mounted on the sidewall.

The pick-up, just like the grass header, is equipped with a system for copying the topography of the field surface in the longitudinal-transverse direction. Overall dimensions of the pick-up platform: length – 2.12 m; width – 3.525 m; height – 1.28 m. Structural weight, with individual spare parts package – 1.7 t.

The design includes measures to prevent feed losses when working in windy weather. The pick-up is equipped with pressure springs. The silage canopy extension provides the ability to unload into vehicle bodies or trailers with low sides and in windy weather, without any significant loss of feed mass.

Additional silage preservative system

In order to prevent over-wetting of the silage, treating it with preservatives as early as possible and distributing them evenly throughout the entire volume, an optional modern preservative application system is offered for installation on Don-680M combines.

This equipment introduces bacterial concentrates in the form of fogging, which is produced by a pneumatic spray nozzle, without additional volumes of water. The five-liter capacity of the device is enough for 10 hours of uninterrupted operation.
