The DAF 105 XF is a modern, comfortable truck tractor for long-distance transport. Based on the DAF 95XF, winner of the 1998 European Truck of the Year title. When creating and producing this model, the manufacturer’s rich experience was aimed at ensuring low operating costs, high reliability and comfortable operation. The DAF 105 XF has been produced since 2006, being in continuous “evolution”.
Areas of application and variants
The main modification of the truck tractor of this model has a 4x2 wheel arrangement. But on the same DAF 105 XF chassis, two-, three- and even four-axle tractors are also produced. Upon special order, the XF105 4×2 model can be equipped with a different fifth wheel support device; There is a wide selection of trailers with different wheelbases.
For the transport of large cargo, DAF offers a 4x2 tractor with a fifth wheel mounted at a very low height of only 96 centimeters. Thus, these trailers, which have an internal height of about three meters, can accommodate cargo with a total volume of up to one hundred cubic meters. The front axle of this low-hitch tractor has a maximum axle load of 7.5 tons and is equipped with parabolic springs. The rear axle has the largest load of 11.5 tons and is equipped with air suspension with four air bags.
By special order, a front axle equipped with air suspension is also installed. There are several versions of the chassis in the 6x2 version to increase the payload size. These tandem chassis come either as a double steered and lifted axle, or as a trailing, lifted or steered axle.
A large selection of configurations has been thought out, among which the customer can choose the one that best suits his immediate needs in cargo transportation. The 6x2 version has two steered axles, the rear axle is steerable and liftable. An important advantage of a truck equipped with a driven rear axle is its high level of maneuverability in confined spaces.
For special vehicles - tractors, which are designed to transport light or heavy loads, tractors with a 6x2 configuration are available, which are equipped with a lifting trailing axle, with single or double wheel tires. Among this wide range of DAF vehicle modifications, the XF105 is available with limited payload capacity and is equipped with a lightweight lifting non-steerable drive axle with 17.5” wheels.
The rarest representatives of the DAF 105 XF truck family are three-axle and four-axle tractors with 2 drive axles. They are intended for transportation of non-standard, especially heavy cargo.
In general, DAF is introducing the XF105 rigid chassis to the market as a standard 4x2 model, with a choice of wheelbases. An additional range of 6x2 rigid chassis is also being introduced. On chassis variants with trailing axles, the rear axles are equipped with air suspension, as well as single or double wheels. The air suspension mentioned earlier is installed on the front axle only by special order.

The cabin of the Daf 105 model is designed taking into account modern ergonomic requirements. A comfortable seat, equipped with its own air suspension, allows the driver to feel as comfortable as possible even on roads with unevenness and imperfections in the road surface. The driver's seat with a side armrest is covered with special “breathable” materials and is equipped with electric heating.
The package includes a climate control system that maintains a comfortable temperature in the cabin.
The cabin has two sleeping places for resting drivers on long-distance trips.
The advanced door locking system provides maximum protection against unauthorized entry into the interior, even if the door locks are broken. The closing and opening of doors can be controlled remotely, thanks to the presence of a locking control panel.
For driver comfort, the cabin is equipped with a microwave oven and a 45-liter mini-refrigerator.
Electric windows of the Daf XF105 models, tinted glass and an external transparent visor above the windshield, the presence of main and corner mirrors with electric heating, halogen headlights with reflectors and impact-protected lenses provide excellent visibility during the day and at night. An airbag is installed in the car cabin.

Engine characteristics
The Daf XF105 modification 460 is equipped with the MX ATe EcoDrive engine, which is not only distinguished by high power, but also meets strict environmental safety requirements. The engine power is 460 horsepower at 1500 – 1900 rpm. The engine capacity is 12.9 liters and is characterized by economical fuel consumption. The automatic shutdown system operates within 5 minutes when the vehicle is idling.

Equipment
All models use a basic package, which includes several required devices:
- digital tachograph with calibration capability;
- speedometer for measuring vehicle speed;
- speed limiter with a basic maximum speed setting of 85 km per hour;
- record player, radio and stereo speakers;
- a cruise control system that allows you to set and maintain speed.

At the request of the buyer, additional equipment can be added to the basic configuration of the Daf XF105 models, including:
- equipment intended for the transportation of dangerous goods;
- winter, summer or all-season tires and rims;

A distinctive feature of the XF105 model is its single base and compact arrangement of chassis components. A single unit combines an exhaust noise silencer, a battery bracket, a new 100-liter tank for the AdBlue reagent and a dispenser. In addition, compressed air tanks and brake system components were found able to be placed inside the chassis, thanks to which it was possible to install high-capacity diesel fuel tanks.
In order to make the most accurate work of companies that produce these superstructures (bodies of various configurations and purposes), special holes are made in the load-bearing elements of the main frame for attaching the bodies. Also developed and supplied on special order is the Body Builder Modul (BBM) - an effective means of ensuring the coordinated operation of the vehicle’s electrical systems and its special superstructure.
According to the manufacturer, when creating this car, DAF was guided by the principle “Evolution, not revolution.” In accordance with it, the specialists of the DAF design center gave the new XF105 long-haul tractor a classic, but at the same time original and stylish appearance, while preserving all its functional aspects characteristic of previous generations of vehicles.
In the new generation, the appearance and aerodynamic characteristics of the car were improved. These improvements include a change in the appearance of the lower radiator grille, which visually expands the bumper, improves the characteristics of the air channels and improves engine performance parameters.
An aluminum strip is placed on the lower radiator grille, which indicates compliance with Euro 5 and EEV environmental standards. The design of the upper radiator grille has also been changed, using smoother lines. The new bumper can now be equipped with cat-eye combination headlights upon special order. The headlights were designed using Lexan polycarbonate protective casing. Xenon lamps are installed.
The DAF XF105 has been designed with many parts that require very little attention and maintenance. The intervals between scheduled maintenance cycles have been increased. In short, everything possible has been done to further reduce operating costs.
Security systems
Adaptive cruise control, warning systems for lane departure and the risk of collision with a car in front, and a DAF monitoring system are designed to increase safety while traveling. There are no airbags in the steering wheel as standard; this is an additional option.
Other systems that increase the safety of using this car include: EBS and ABS (electronic and anti-lock braking systems; ASR - anti-skid, emergency braking support, braking torque control, hill start assist, axle load control.
