Technical characteristics of the MAZ-6430 truck tractor and 8 popular modifications


MAZ-6430 is a truck tractor built on a three-axle chassis with a 6x4 wheel arrangement. The model is designed to transport any cargo along intercity, regional and international routes. MAZ-6430 can use various types of semi-trailers, both agricultural and industrial.

This truck tractor was first presented to the general public in 1997. In the same year, the Minsk Automobile Plant began its mass production, which continues to this day.

The car was restyled in 2008. Then the tractor began to be equipped with a new, more comfortable cabin and modernized engines that not only had improved power performance, but also complied with Euro-4 environmental standards.

The main features of the MAZ-6430 truck tractor are accessibility, maintainability and unpretentiousness. These qualities make the Minsk tractor superior to many foreign analogues.

Modifications

Based on the standard MAZ-6430, modified versions were developed, including:

MAZ-6430A5.

The modification uses a Yaroslavl-made diesel power unit, namely an eight-cylinder V-shaped engine of the YaMZ-238DE2 brand, which meets Euro-2 environmental requirements. It develops a maximum power output of 330 horsepower;

MAZ-643008.

A YaMZ-7511.10 diesel power unit is installed under the cabin of this version. It has eight cylinders arranged in a V formation. The engine meets Euro-2 environmental requirements and has a maximum power of 400 horsepower;

MAZ-643018.

The modification is equipped with an imported six-cylinder in-line Mercedes-Benz OM 501LA engine that meets Euro-3 environmental requirements. It is equipped with a turbocharging system, which allows it to develop a maximum power of 428 horsepower;

MAZ-6430A9.

For this modification, a six-cylinder in-line diesel engine produced in Yaroslavl was chosen - YaMZ-650. With a displacement of 11 liters, this engine is capable of developing a maximum power of 410 horsepower. It is worth noting that it also complies with Euro 4 environmental requirements;

MAZ-6430S9.

It is also equipped with a six-cylinder in-line Yaroslavl engine of the YaMZ-653 brand, which complies with Euro-5 environmental standards. Its maximum output power reaches 422 horsepower;

MAZ-6430E9.

This truck tractor is equipped with an atmospheric six-cylinder in-line Mercedes-Benz OM501 engine that meets Euro-5 environmental standards. The maximum power of this engine is slightly less than that of its turbocharged counterpart, the Mercedes-Benz OM 501LA;

MAZ-6430A8.

An eight-cylinder diesel engine of the YaMZ-6581 brand is installed under the cabin, the maximum power of which is 400 horsepower. It is paired with a ZF16S1650 16-speed manual transmission;


MAZ-6430V9.

The modification is equipped with a YaMZ-651.10 diesel engine, which produces a maximum power of 412 horsepower. The engine complies with Euro-4 environmental standards.

It is worth noting that in addition to the engine, all of these modified versions differ in other parameters, such as weight and overall dimensions. In addition, they may have a modified appearance and different transmission options.

Car history

Tractors have already become the calling card of the MAZ enterprise, and modifications have become a special style of self-improvement. The next worker, MAZ-6430, began production in 1997, and was built on the basis of the MAZ-6422. The previous model is still in demand and is used in many transportation structures. But, if there is an opportunity to become better, why not take advantage of it?!

And so, once again, an excellent truck is born, which was also improved during production and even received a restyling. In 2008, the updated version was seen by the world at the MAF exhibition. Everything in the car indicates that the truck is modern, has a lot of useful functions for work, and when you see it on the road, you know that the driver feels confident.

Cabin

On the MAZ-6430 truck tractor, the designers of the Minsk Automobile Plant used a two-door all-metal cab.

Pre-restyling versions were equipped with cabins with a more modern appearance than their predecessors. This cabin has a panoramic windshield, a rectangular radiator grille, a neat bumper with integrated headlights, and a spoiler mounted on the roof.

Later it was restyled. In general, the cabin design remains the same, but the appearance has been significantly updated. It is worth noting that in terms of design, the Belarusian tractor is close to many foreign analogues. The head lighting here is also represented by two block headlights integrated into the bumper. Each headlamp contains low and high beam, daytime running lights, and a turn signal. In addition, the headlights were supplemented with a built-in low beam angle corrector. Additionally, the vehicle can be equipped with spotlights and signal lights installed on the roof. The rear view mirrors on the restyled models are electrically adjustable. Along with this, electric windows are also used.

Easy access to the cab is provided by a large door opening and well-designed steps and grab handles. The driver's workplace is equipped with a spacious and comfortable seat, the design of which includes lateral support. In addition, the seat has several adjustments, including adjusting the backrest angle, height, reach, as well as the inclination and height of the cushion. For additional convenience, the seat was equipped with a retractable armrest. The steering column also has several adjustable parameters, namely height, tilt and reach.

Since the main purpose of this truck tractor is to transport any cargo over long distances, a comfortable sleeping place was installed inside the cab behind the seat backs. Moreover, compared to its predecessors, the sleeping bag of the new car was much more comfortable. In addition, the cabin has a folding table located in the central part of the front panel, a refrigerator and even a gas stove with an 8-liter cylinder.

The top shelf is equipped with a Stoneridge brand tachograph, which is one of the representatives of the MTSO 1324 class.

To use various household appliances, such as a TV, charger, etc., the designers placed a special socket in the cabin.

Peculiarities

The MAZ-6430 has a fairly comfortable cabin, especially the restyled models. Owners note excellent interior ergonomics, good build quality and an informative dashboard. I was also pleased with the presence of a folding table, a refrigerator, a gas stove and a comfortable sleeping place. In addition, the cabin has good sound insulation and an efficient heating system. It is also worth noting that the Belarusian car has a very modern appearance, reminiscent of many European analogues.

The Minsk Automobile Plant offers a large number of modified versions, differing not only in power indicators, but also in load capacity. Thanks to this, consumers can choose a model taking into account personal preferences and purpose.

All engines are highly reliable. Their operational life is 800 thousand or one million kilometers, which is a very impressive figure. In addition, the engines have high power and excellent traction, available over a wide speed range.

Price

Currently, you can purchase a MAZ-6430 truck tractor with zero mileage at a cost ranging from 3.7 million to 4 million rubles in standard configuration. The presence of additional options can increase the final cost of the car.

Used tractors are now available on the secondary market at prices ranging from 400 thousand to 700 thousand rubles for versions produced in the 2000s. If we consider newer copies produced between 2008 and 2011, they have a price tag from 1.6 million to 2 million rubles, depending on the technical condition and mileage.

In addition, the rental service of this car is in considerable demand. On average, the cost of one working hour varies from 1100 to 1500 rubles.

What parts most often require replacement?

There are no obvious vulnerabilities in the MAZ 6430 configuration. The driver should pay attention to car maintenance:

  • Conduct diagnostics and partial repairs of suspension and steering: replacement of shock absorbers, springs, repair of reaction rods, adjustment of tractor axles, reinstallation of kingpins, wheel alignment;
  • Transmission diagnostics: balancing the driveshaft, replacing gearbox parts, gearbox mechanisms;

  • I have a Maz 6430 tractor with a mileage of 330 thousand km. A car with a spacious interior, a driver's lift seat, but the passenger seat is bolted to the floor. Visibility is good. At the 30th thousand, the headlights took up half of the water, which led to the closure of the circuit. I had to change the fuse, and also disassemble and impregnate the seams with sealant. The electrical is so thin and not laid out properly. The relay with fuses is located under the cover on the dashboard. Already at the 10th thousand I had to go to the service center, because the fuses for the wiper washer system had already blown out. Fixed under warranty. Standard brushes do not “clean”, but simply make stains. Over time, a tagograph was installed - a useful thing, capable of reading the vehicle’s parameters throughout the entire route. The device takes into account two drivers at once and also builds a traffic schedule. On bumps, the suspension is so rough that sometimes you want to slow down. The fabric-based interior looks nice only in the photo. The front panel is made of hard and cheap plastic. There is a double sleeping bag. Conveniently, there are three adjustments for adjusting the sunroof. The 240-horsepower Maz accelerates well, but consumes 40 liters per 100 km. In general, you need to keep an eye on the car.
  • I have been working on MAZ 6430 for five years now. Minor problems started almost immediately. First of all, the antifreeze indicator came on - it turned out that the sensor had simply malfunctioned. Once in the pit (okay, at least not in the middle of a country route) I discovered a huge puddle of oil under the engine. The service fixed the problem under warranty. However, after that it turned out that the fuel tank was almost dry - all the fuel was drained in the workshop. There was a small scandal, after which the technicians filled it with some kind of fresh water, which is why we had to clean the entire fuel system, change all the filters, etc. The car began to have trouble starting, they repeatedly called a tow truck and dragged it back to the same workshop for repairs. The fuse blew, when replacing it another oil leak was discovered. As a result, the car broke down due to the crooked hands of the craftsmen. There is nothing to say about the car itself in terms of comfort and sound insulation - it’s something of the last century. A noisy engine and a buzzing gearbox, vibrations and extraneous sounds, aerodynamic noise - all this causes negative impressions.
  • I have a Maz 6430 from 2012. The car has 220 thousand km mileage. There have been minor and major technical problems, but with timely maintenance the tractor remains at full speed. I praise the high-torque 240-horsepower diesel engine, which has only one drawback - high fuel and oil consumption. Perhaps the engine is the most reliable link in the MAZ 6430. Two years later, our company decided to purchase several more of these MAZs, which also showed their best side - they have been in operation since 2014, also with a decent mileage. This model is ideal for Russian operating conditions. I will note the energy-intensive suspension and decent cross-country ability on rough terrain. There is almost no shaking in the cabin due to the fact that the seat is mounted on an air cushion. There is good sound insulation, which came from the factory. Fuel consumption is about 40 liters per 100 km on average. The 240-horsepower diesel engine digests domestic fuel and oil well. The spark plugs do not burn out prematurely, and in winter you can be sure of uninterrupted starting. In summer, overheating is only possible in the red rev zone.
