The new Ford Transit, which debuted this year, is the seventh generation of the legendary light-duty SUV, which has been in production since 1965. Over its half-century history, the production volume of these cars has exceeded 7 million units.

We already had the opportunity to get acquainted with the new Ford Transit at the beginning of the year at the European premiere in Barcelona. However, this time we went to Sochi, where the first Russian dynamic presentation of the car took place. In the second quarter of 2014, production of the new Transit began at the Ford Sollers plant in Elabuga. The cars are assembled using the SKD method from vehicle kits supplied from the Ford plant in Turkey. For the Russian market, cars only with the “Made in Russia” sign will be available, and for the European market – those assembled in Turkey. Looking ahead, let's say that, according to Ford representatives, there are no obvious differences between cars produced at different factories. However, not the entire Transit line will be available in the Russian Federation, but only the most massive and popular models.

So, the new generation of Ford Transit, as before, will be offered with three types of drive - front, rear and all-wheel drive. The range includes various versions of vans, chassis, combi and minibuses. Vehicles for transporting passengers will be presented in two models: a 9-seater combi with removable second and third rows of seats and an 18-seater minibus. The newcomer has the same engine, the familiar 2.2-liter Duratorq TDCi turbodiesel with various power settings - 125, 135 and 155 hp. With. Only a 6-speed manual is available as a transmission.

For the dynamic presentation, the organizers prepared about ten cars, and these were exclusively vans with two wheelbase options and an average roof height, which are most in demand in our market. My colleague and I got the front-wheel drive version with a 125-horsepower engine. About 300 kg of cargo was ballasted in the cargo compartment.

The first thing that catches your eye is the large trapezoidal grille, wide hood and high-mounted headlights. The front and rear bumpers are made of composite parts, which will significantly reduce repair costs for minor damage. The interior is made in traditional Ford style. The modern, driver-focused interior features a sculpted front fascia that combines stylish looks with clever solutions to accommodate all your on-the-go essentials, documents, phone or drinks bottles. Driver comfort is ensured by a wide range of adjustments for the driver's seat and steering column, and there is plenty of space even for tall drivers. All controls are in the usual places and freely accessible. The gearshift lever is on the front console, the handbrake is between the seats, the steering wheel controls the radio and some on-board systems of the van. For the convenience of passengers, there is a double seat, the back of the middle chair turns into a table, and a spacious box is hidden under the pillow. To securely secure the cargo, there are loops that are now located not on the floor, but on the walls of the van. The inside of the compartment is lined with plywood.

The driving impressions of the new Ford Transit were very positive. The high seating position provides excellent visibility, and the two-piece rearview mirrors minimize blind spots. The machine is fairly quiet and there are no vibrations on the controls. The car handles well, it goes very smoothly on the highway and does not fall over in turns, we can say that the handling is as close as possible to a car. We also note effective brakes and precise gear shifting. Of course, you couldn’t expect much agility from a 125-horsepower diesel engine, but it was quite enough to confidently storm the mountain serpentines in the vicinity of Sochi. Fuel consumption was about 9.6 l/100 km, and this is quite a good result considering that most of the route had to be driven through the mountains in low gears.

And now, perhaps, the most interesting thing. Paradoxically, the new Transit will cost less than its predecessor, and this is not a marketing ploy. As Ford representatives explained, this became possible due to the simplification of the design of some components of the car - lighting elements, braking system, etc., which made it possible to reduce their cost. In addition, the cost and time of repairs will be reduced. A striking example of this is replacing the rear brake disc. Now this operation will take half as much time as on the previous generation Transit. Accordingly, with the same cost of a standard hour and the cost of a part, the cost of repair will decrease. But all this is not within the scope of the warranty and the next maintenance.

Well, Ford Transit has been the sales leader in the Russian market in its segment for the last two years, and the new generation is designed to consolidate this success and help attract the attention of buyers to this popular light-duty model.

On topic: I rode in cars with both engines. The TDCi is certainly quicker and accelerates faster than the TDDi. + 25 horses still come from the TDCi and, if I’m not mistaken, the TDDi has a turbine without a nameable geometry.

But on the highway the TDDi is quite good. After driving it for the first time I wanted to buy a diesel car instead of a petrol one.

TDDi 75 hp was before. Now there is only TDCi. I have a Tourneo Connect 1.8 TDCi 75 hp. , engine model R2PA (judging by the registration certificate). And I’m also interested in how it differs from 90 hp. Maybe only by firmware.

PS: mileage 33tkm, first breakdown - intercooler pipe broke. I wanted to change it myself, but when I saw that this rubber band costs 2 thousand, I went under warranty. The dealer supplied a slightly different one - it is not all rubber, but with synthetic fabric between the layers of rubber. Theoretically it should be stronger. By the way, do you know if there is a non-original product at a reasonable price?
