Car history
Tractors have already become the hallmark of the MAZ enterprise, and modifications have become a special style of self-improvement. The next worker, MAZ-6430, began production in 1997, and was built on the basis of the MAZ-6422. The previous model is still in demand and is used in many transportation structures. But, if there is an opportunity to become better, why not take advantage of it?!
And so, once again, an excellent truck is born, which was also improved during production and even received a restyling. In 2008, the updated version was seen by the world at the MAF exhibition. Everything in the car indicates that the truck is modern, has a lot of useful functions for work, and when you see it on the road, you know that the driver feels confident.
Purpose
MAZ 6430 is maximally adapted for the transportation of goods for various purposes, both on domestic and foreign highways. Units and systems are designed to operate both in hot conditions and at low temperatures. Depending on the type of trailer, the MAZ 6330 is used in various industries, agriculture, construction and other fields. Three-axle versions of the car also performed well when transported on country roads. The car operates most efficiently on interregional routes and international highways.
Specifications
In addition to an extensive exterior restyling, the 6430 model received modern power units and other related mechanics. The main focus, as always, was maximum productivity. To do this, the developers of the Yaroslavl Machine-Building Plant improved the existing motors for this model. This representative of MAZ tractors has several modifications. This unit is obviously weaker in power, but has greater efficiency. In addition, all engines for MAZ-6430 trucks have the Euro-3 environmental class. The tables showed the performance characteristics of the basic models. At different times and different versions were equipped with imported engines, such as Renault Trucks; Daimler Chrysler Om501LA with 402 hp. With.; MAN turbodiesel with a capacity of 455 hp. With.
Engine
The MAZ-6430 is equipped with a 4-stroke 6-cylinder in-line diesel engine model “YAMZ-650” (“YAMZ-658”) produced by the Yaroslavl Machine Plant. This power plant is distinguished by a brake system pneumatic compressor with a capacity of 500 l/min, an EDC-7 electronic unit from Bosch and a Common Rail fuel supply system. The engine is complemented by a ZF 16S221 manual gearbox.
The key systems of the unit include foreign components: a cruise control paddle switch, water and air radiators of the cooling system, an exhaust system muffler and an electronic fuel control pedal. The motor meets Euro-3 requirements.
Characteristics of the YaMZ-650 engine:
- working volume – 11.1 l;
- rated power - 242.6 (330) kW (hp);
- maximum torque – 1900 Nm.
The Minsk Automobile Plant also offers modifications with a similar 412-horsepower engine.
The restyled version of the MAZ-6430A9-1320-020, presented recently, is equipped with a powerful Renault turbocharged power unit.
Fuel consumption
MAZ-6430 consumes 26.9 liters of fuel per 100 km of travel. At the same time, the capacity of the truck’s fuel tank is 500 liters, which makes it possible to organize long cargo transportation without stopping for refueling.
Chassis
The chassis is a set of mobile units that requires retrofitting. It is logical that a car cannot be imagined without a semi-trailer, since without it the car will not be considered profitable. The name “chassis” can be of three types:
- Chassis-frame. This is a set of chassis, transmission and other important devices;
- Chassis-body. This is the link between the supporting body;
- Self-propelled chassis.

But not only two-axle MAZ tractors will be equipped with the new engine. In 2008, at the Moscow MAF exhibition, the Minsk Automobile Plant presented visitors with its new product, namely a road train led by a MAZ-6430A9 truck tractor with a 6x4 wheel arrangement, which was equipped with the same new YaMZ-650.10 diesel engine that was installed on its predecessor MAZ-5440A9. This six-cylinder in-line engine is assembled in the city of Yaroslavl at the Avtodizel OJSC engine plant under license from the French company Renault Trucks. The new truck tractor, MAZ-6430A9, in terms of its environmental parameters, meets the requirements of the international standard Euro-3.
Installed on it, as already mentioned, is the new YaMZ-650.10 engine with a displacement of 11.12 liters, equipped with a “Common Rail” fuel supply system, an EDC-7 electronic unit from Bosch, and a pneumatic brake system compressor with a capacity of 500 liters per minute. The power of the new engine is 412 horsepower with a maximum torque of 1900 Nm. The engine, in turn, is coupled with a manual transmission manufactured by “ZF” -16S221. Diesel YaMZ-650.10 will provide MAZ vehicles with a further reduction in average fuel consumption and, in general, a reduction in cost costs over the full life cycle of the engine. Also, a vehicle equipped with a YaMZ-650.10 engine meets the requirements of UNECE R89 rules.
The main engine systems include purchased components: an exhaust system muffler, radiators (air and water) of the cooling system, an electronic fuel control pedal, a steering column switch for the cruise control system. The MAZ-6430A9 tractor is equipped with a fifth wheel coupling with a height of 1250 millimeters or 1350 millimeters and rear suspensions of two types: pneumatic or spring. The automatic air suspension control valve ensures automatic transfer of the semi-trailer to the transport position without driver intervention after loading and unloading operations. A distinctive feature of the new product is the modernized appearance and interior of the cabin with a new composite bumper, headlights, cladding, flaps, instrument panel and steering wheel, the diameter of which is 460 millimeters, a gray instrument panel and an upper shelf above the windshield.
The main goal of modernizing the car cabin was not only to create a more modern appearance, but also, first of all, to solve operational and technological problems, which include improving aerodynamics and organizing air flow in the tail area in order to reduce pollution of the road train. The use of special protection in the form of mud flaps has reduced interference for other vehicles involved in road traffic in rainy weather. The use of injection molding technology for the production of large-sized plastic parts in the future will improve productivity in their production and reduce their cost. MAZ-6430A9 has a mirror system that reflects all potentially dangerous blind spots. Along with the main rear-view mirrors (both electrically adjustable from the driver's seat), the vehicle is equipped with a loading ramp viewing mirror.
Device
The MAZ-6430 is equipped with a modernized air suspension with an automatic control valve, which allows the semi-trailer to be automatically transferred to the transport position after loading and unloading operations. The driver's participation in this process is not required.
Another distinctive feature of the truck was the modified appearance and cabin with new headlights, a 460 mm steering wheel, an upper shelf located under the windshield, improved cladding, an instrument panel, a composite bumper and an interesting instrument panel.
The main goal of refining the MAZ-6430 cabin was to solve a number of technological and operational issues: organizing air flow to reduce pollution and improving aerodynamics. The use of splash guards helped to minimize disruption to other road users in rainy weather.
The drive axles of the MAZ-6430 have a pneumatic 4-bar suspension. Electronic systems and electrical equipment on the tractor have been significantly improved. The main innovation was the appearance of the advanced switching equipment unit "BKA-4" with electrical connectors "Power Timer" and "knife" type fuses. This increased the reliability of the car.
The headlight unit is made in one housing and includes low and high beam elements, a front turn signal, dimensions and a built-in low beam angle corrector. The headlamp is distinguished by increased protection from impacts and a modern design.
The instrument panel has an extensive information area that displays the status of the vehicle's components and systems. It includes a multifunctional monitor that displays data in digital form.
The MAZ-6430 air suspension is equipped with an ECAS control system with a modern set of systems: diagnostic and control functions, load on the drive axles and fuel consumption control. The tractor is also equipped with an advanced anti-lock and traction control system. The latter functions very effectively.
A Stoneridge tachograph, belonging to category MTSO 1324, appeared on the top shelf of the cabin. It is electrically connected to the instrument panel. The cabin also contains a voltage converter, a special socket for charging a phone or connecting a TV, and power windows.
Getting into the MAZ-6430 cabin has become more convenient due to the large doorway and the successful design of handrails and steps. It is already quite difficult to distinguish the cabin of the latest modifications of the model from foreign analogues. It uses modern materials, and the instrument cluster is clearly visible at any time. There is also a small fold-out table on the center console.
Already in the basic version, the MAZ-6430 is equipped with a sprung driver's seat, a spoiler, a tachograph, a speed limiter, seat belts, an engine heater and ABS. An independent air heater installed in the cab and an electronic traction control system (ASR) are optionally available for the tractor.
Cabin interior
The cabin interior is fully equipped for the driver. There are no these awkward angularities. Older models don't compare to the cabin featured in this model. The driver will be comfortable in the car even on long trips.
The seat is spacious and comfortable, there are supports on its sides, even on a pillow.
The driver of the car, having secured himself in a seat with an armrest, can adjust it to his physical parameters.
The MAZ-6430 chair is equipped with the following:
- backrest tilt level;
- chair height;
- seat reach;
- slopes and height of the pillow;
- retractable armrest.
The steering wheel has an adjustable column that can be changed:
- by height;
- by slope;
- upon departure.
This allows you to maneuver and control the tractor comfortably. The steering wheel diameter is optimal - 46 centimeters. Behind the steering wheel is the instrument panel. It is well lit in the dark and does not interfere with anything at all.
There are also switches and buttons. They are located to the right of the driver. Access to it is convenient and open.
This is a modern car. One of the proofs of its modernity is the small size of the liquid crystal screen. It allows you to instantly access the functioning systems of the tractor.
MAZ-6430 is designed for long trips. That is why it is equipped with a folding table, which is located in the center of the instrument panel. Another plus is a refrigerator, a gas stove with a cylinder for 8 liters of blue fuel.
The sleeping accommodations are also comfortable. They are better equipped than previous models. You can relax even while driving, which will not affect comfort in any way.
The passenger seat is also thought out to the smallest detail. It is the same as the driver's. If you wish, you can stand up to your full height and have a good stretch.
Sound insulation is another strong point. But this cannot be said about previous models. The models of the Belarusian plant had one problem, which they managed to get rid of.
Interior
MAZ (tractor) 6430 is more comfortable than its predecessors. The large seat allows the driver to sit comfortably. There are side pillows for back support. You can lean on the armrest, which can be easily folded if necessary. Moreover, all this can be adjusted, adjusting the position to your preferences. You can change the position of the backrest, the inclination and height of the pillow, the height and reach of the seat itself. The passenger seat has the same functionality as the driver's seat.
In addition to seat adjustments, you can adjust the position of the steering column. The height, reach, and inclination change. The steering wheel with a diameter of forty-six centimeters allows you to sit comfortably.
The main elements of the dashboard are located behind the steering wheel. But this does not impair their use at all. In the dark, the panel is illuminated, making it easy to find the desired sensor.
To the right of the steering wheel, the panel rotates forty-five degrees and approaches the driver. This means you don't have to reach for buttons. A folding table is hidden in the middle.
The operation of all systems is reflected on the screen located on the panel. Here you can see all the necessary indicators.
The height of the cabin allows the driver to stand at full height. The sleeping area has also been improved, where the driver can rest calmly and comfortably. There are convenient lockable drawers for things. The presence of a refrigerator and a gas stove will allow you to eat well anywhere.
Another plus is the soundproofing of the cabin. It is at a high level due to the use of a polymer screen. As the drivers of the MAZ 6430 tractor assure, extraneous sounds no longer bother them.

Features and operation
Being in the cabin of the new MAZ 6430, it is impossible to distinguish it from the world's best analogues. The quality of the cabin interior materials is also at a high level. For drivers to rest, there are two berths behind the seats. Among other things, there is a refrigerator and a mini-gas stove. On the outside, the cabin has a folding bumper with block headlights, behind which tool containers are installed, as well as a tail to improve aerodynamic properties and reduce cabin pollution. The cabin has excellent visibility. For safe movement when performing maneuvers, several mirrors are installed:
- Two rear view mirrors with electrical adjustment from the driver's seat;
- Loading ramp viewing mirror;
- Front view mirror.
This mirror installation scheme virtually eliminates potentially dangerous blind spots. The MAZ 6430 cabin is also equipped with a whole range of modern electronic systems, including a system for monitoring and diagnosing fuel consumption and loads on the drive axles. Additional equipment includes an autonomous cabin heater, a new climate control system with built-in air conditioning, an engine preheater, a tachograph, an ABS system, and an aerodynamic spoiler.
