The MAZ 6422 truck has a load capacity of 14,700 kg and a standard ground clearance of 260 mm. Under the hood of the car, a YaMZ-6582(1) power unit is installed, depending on the model.

Description of the MAZ-6422 tractor

The 6422nd model is the result of many years of modifications, in which it is almost impossible to detect a single progenitor. It is believed that the creation was based on the design of the following models: MAZ-5336, MAZ-6301, MAZ-6302, but mainly MAZ-515, the exterior of which was originally similar to the MAZ-6422. However, thanks to the systematic restyling that the cabin underwent, by the end of the 80s the 6422nd model acquired the well-known exterior: a panoramic “lobovha”, a smaller bumper with headlight blocks, a spoiler.

The main nuance is the convenience of the cabin, which hardly any other Soviet tractor can boast of, since the MAZ-6422 was originally created for international transport with the prospect of long trips. However, it gained great popularity on intercity domestic routes. The 6422nd model was produced in the basic version until 1985, with changes - to this day. It can only be called an analogue of the KrAZ-64431.

Modifications

Direct modifications of the tractor were produced until the end of the 80s. These include:

  1. MAZ-64227. The technical characteristics are similar to the 6422nd model (the same YaMZ-Z238f engine), but the front part has undergone improvements. Without modifications, the modification was produced until 1989.
  2. The 64229th model is an improved “64227” (a more powerful YaMZ-238D power unit with 8 cylinders), which has been in production since 1987.
  3. The 64226th version is equipped with a German MAN engine with 360 horsepower and a new 16-speed gearbox.
  4. The 642205-220th model is “customized” to the Euro-2 eco-standard, thanks to the YaMZ-238DE2 engine.
  5. “64221” and “64224” are 1989 models with a reinforced 425-horsepower engine (“YaMZ-8421”).

The classic 6422 version can be used as a tanker, timber carrier, or van.

Cabin exterior

The cabin of the current MAZ 6422 truck tractor differs from earlier versions.
Changes affected the exterior of the car, grille and front lighting. The cabin looks monolithic. Gone are the smooth and protruding forms that were popular in the middle of the last century. The windshield of the tractor has been modernized. The classic, split glass version has been replaced by a safe panoramic view. The previously ridiculous looking bumper was replaced with a design with modernized headlights. On the roof of the truck tractor there is now a spoller of an improved design.

Cabin structure

The MAZ 6422 cabin has undergone the following changes:

  1. A safety steering wheel is installed.
  2. The chair is now adjustable in height and tilt.
  3. For shift workers, the recreation area is equipped with two sleeping bags.
  4. The control levers are within reach, reducing fatigue while driving.

Cabin and braking system

The designers of the MAZ 6422 tractor took into account numerous comments and wishes of drivers who worked on previous models. As a result, the MAZ 6422 truck acquired a new cabin, which provided drivers with maximum comfort in all travel conditions, and improved braking mechanisms.

In addition to the updated exterior design, the cabin received a completely new interior. Panoramic glass with three wipers provides excellent visibility.

The cabin body is suspended and tilted forward by a special hydraulic cylinder, which has a manual hydraulic pump drive. The large bumper installed on previous models has been replaced on the MAZ 6422 tractor with a smaller bumper with integrated headlight units, which has improved the appearance of the car. A new spoiler with improved aerodynamic properties is installed on the roof, significantly reducing drag. When driving on the highway at high speeds, this significantly reduces fuel consumption.

Brake system

MAZ 6422 tractors are equipped with four brake systems. The working system has a pneumatic drive and acts on all brake mechanisms without exception, while simultaneously locking the front and rear wheels. Electric pneumatic ABS is installed in the mechanism drives. The parking system, like the spare one, controls the brake mechanisms of the rear and middle axles and is activated by a crane located in the driver’s cabin. The auxiliary system of the MAZ 6422 tractor is used to slow down the vehicle on long, steep descents.

Experienced drivers know modern models and remember the first cars. They speak well of the MAZ line. The installation of comfortable sleeping places and increased visibility of the windshield increased the performance of drivers, which in turn had a positive impact on traffic safety.

Engine line and gearbox

Evidence of the excellent technical characteristics that brought international fame to the Super MAZ is the fact that the 30-year-old truck still meets modern requirements today.

The main engine, which equips almost all modifications of the truck, is a product of the Yaroslavl Motor Plant of various capacities. The most popular of the series of Minsk tractors is the MAZ-64229, which has a four-stroke 8-cylinder engine from the Yaroslavl plant with the index 238D under the hood. Having a V-shaped cylinder arrangement with a displacement of 14.86 liters and turbocharging, the power unit develops a power of 330 hp.

The engine is equipped with a torch-type heating device with electric ignition, and upon request it is possible to heat the engine and heat the cabin by installing a liquid heater. Yaroslavl engines with a volume of 17.24 and 17.42 liters, which are equipped with specific modifications, develop power of 360 and 425 “horses”, respectively.

The engines are paired with a Yaroslavl 10-speed gearbox with eight forward gears and two reverse gears. All gears except reverse have synchronizers. The installation of a MAN power plant with a 16-speed gearbox on the MAZ-64226 increased the reliability of the vehicle, but at the same time increased the cost of maintenance.

Two modifications of the MAZ-6422 power plants with a displacement of 14850 cc develop a power of 400 horsepower, working in conjunction with a 9-speed transmission. Models “08” and “A8” are equipped with a 12-speed manual transmission. A dry double-disc clutch is installed on a Minsk tractor.

The maximum speed developed by the engines ranges from 85 km/h to 118 km/h, and fuel consumption per hundred kilometers in mixed mode is 45.5 liters, and on the highway - 33 liters.
