Foton View is a minibus whose task is to transport passengers on intercity routes. A gravel exit is also available for the minibus. The model is considered the purest unlicensed clone of the popular Toyota Hiace minibus. This is especially true for appearance. In itself, it combines a high level of comfort, pleasant appearance and optimal safety for passengers. All this is complemented by a high degree of reliability.

Design

The car has a very attractive design with rounded shapes and an increased roof height. The windshield is located at a large negative angle, turning into the hood, which at the end point descends vertically. In the center there is a large false radiator grille with a horizontal orientation. On the sides of it there are large rectangular headlights, on the outer part of which there are small “fins”.

The massive bumper includes round fog lights and a huge air intake that follows the shape of the main false radiator grille.

In profile, Photon View has a large number of different stampings and lines. Particularly striking is the “oblique” glazing of the front door. The rest of the body glazing is made in a single and continuous style. The side door is sliding, and deep lines extend from the door rail into the front and rear of the body. The extended wheel arches are also well drawn, and a wide molding runs parallel to the sill. The image is complemented by 15-inch aluminum wheels.

The back part is made quite simply. The bumper is barely noticeable, and a narrow brake light is located in the enlarged part of the roof. Large lights with a vertical orientation are integrated into the side pillars, in the center of which there are turn signal indicators and a reverse signal.

In the front part of the cabin everything is made of rough plastic. The driver's seat has a wide range of adjustments, as well as pronounced support. Between the driver and passenger there is a huge armrest with all possible useful niches and cup holders. The car is worth praising for its excellent visibility and the presence of huge side rear-view mirrors.

Behind the 4-spoke steering wheel is a simple and easy to read instrument panel. Air ducts with vertical orientation are evenly distributed throughout the torpedo. The gearshift lever is also located there. Control of the organs and systems of the minibus are concentrated in a separate block on the center console.

For the Photon View car, two “fours” are available in the line of power units, which meet the Euro-4 environmental class. They work in tandem with a 5-speed manual transmission. The power of the motors is transmitted to the rear axle.

  • The first engine is a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine. It develops 130 hp. and 200 Nm of torque. Its consumption in the combined cycle per 100 km/way is 13.5 liters.
  • The second engine is a diesel engine with a turbocharger, the volume of which is 2.8 liters. The power is the same - 130 hp, but the torque is 280 Nm. “Diesel” consumes no more than 9.5 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle.

The maximum speed is 160 km/h.

At the front the car has an independent 2-lever system, and at the rear there is a dependent architecture with springs. It is complemented by a stabilizer bar. The steering system is equipped with a hydraulic booster, and the brake system has a vacuum booster.

Before we begin to introduce the new products, a few words about the exhibition itself. Let's start with the fact that AutoShanghai is being held for the 17th time and is the largest exhibition of its kind not only in China, but throughout the entire Asian region. By the way, this show is held in late April in odd-numbered years, while its rival, the Beijing Auto Show, is held in even-numbered years. Does this remind you of anything?

What the salon lacks is decent information support. The exhibition is “tailored” exclusively to the local journalistic pool, which is clearly indicated during accreditation at the foreigners’ salon.

This is not only the lack of materials at least in English, but also lists of those who have access to such materials at all. Foton Motor presented its new products in the commercial vehicle segment at the FotonDaimler exhibition stand with an area of ​​more than 1000 m2. The new models were created in collaboration with world leaders in the automotive industry and combine the latest technologies in the field of environmental friendliness, performance and safety. Some of the new products may soon appear on the Russian market.

Thus, the Super Truck series was developed within the framework of the Foton Global Innovation Alliance, which includes such global manufacturers as Daimler, Cummins, ZF, Wabco and Continental.

The new flagship - Foton Auman EST (Energy Super Truck) belongs to the Super Truck line. The vehicle incorporates the most modern technologies available for the truck industry. This model is a representative of the 5th generation of Foton trucks. The new product received a large list of electronic systems: the LDWS road marking monitoring system, the ESP exchange rate stability system and the ROPS rollover prevention system. The Smart Fleet system takes company fleet management to a new level. Now you can receive information about the driver’s driving style, vehicle driving conditions, its technical condition and location online via the Internet.

The two exhibited Auman EST A truck tractors with 6x4 and 4x2 wheel arrangements rightfully became the main characters at the stand. A distinctive feature of the vehicles was the use of air suspension on the rear drive axles. In addition, the 4x2 tractor was equipped with a Mercedes-Benz OM457 engine, the serial assembly of which will begin in China next year.

The line of Aumark S (Super) series trucks is built on the 4th generation M4 platform. The presentation of this model for Russia is scheduled at the Comtrans exhibition. The S series trucks are expected to become Foton's best-selling product in the Russian market.

The first to be presented will be modifications of the S1 with a gross weight of 3.5 to 6.5 tons. The approximate date for the start of sales of the new product is October 2017. In 2022, deliveries of heavier modifications of the S3 weighing 8.3 and 9.5 tons are planned. The 12-ton flagship of the S5 model range will become available to Russian buyers at the beginning of 2019.

Light and medium versions of the Aumark S1 model will be presented with Cummins ISF series engines of 2.8 and 3.8 liters.

To confirm its words about the innovative path of development, the company presented two samples of promising developments. Thus, the all-electric Foton Ollin EV truck is built on the M4 platform. With a maximum weight of 6 tons, its load capacity is 3 tons. In passing, we note that supplies of the diesel version of Foton Ollin to the Russian market are no longer provided.

Thanks to a modern power plant, including a traction battery with an output of 45 kWh and electric motors with a power of 30 kW, a range of up to 300 km is provided at a maximum speed of up to 100 km/h. Passenger capacity can be up to 35 people, depending on the design of the bus.

The peculiarity of the Foton Motor exhibition was that it was divided into three components. We have already presented the first one. The second was dedicated to LCVs, the third to passenger cars. We will focus your attention only on the second, due to our specifics.

Among the exhibits at the stand one could see a frame vehicle already well-known in Russia - the Foton Tunland pickup truck (sold since 2012), which received a number of minor changes, as well as the Foton Toano minibus. By the way, the premiere show of the minibus coincided with the decision about the possible launch of the car on the Russian market.

The Tunland pickup truck has received an updated interior. The presented modifications E3 and E5 have the same dimensions (5320x1860x1790 mm) and wheelbase (3105 mm), as well as the size of the cargo platform (1520x1580x440 mm). The E3 modification is equipped with a 493ZLQ4 turbocharged diesel engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. Moreover, it is offered in two trim levels, the top of which includes ABS+EBD, air conditioning and navigation. The E5 version differs from the E3 in engine and richer interior equipment. It is equipped with a Cummins ISF2.8 engine with a power of 163 hp. With. with a torque of 360 Nm. The drive is plug-in all-wheel drive. Transmission: 5-speed manual Getrag JC538. Foton Toano will be produced in 8 possible versions: from a cargo-passenger van with three seats to an 18-seater minibus with a length from 4923 to 5990 mm. The range of engines is represented by Cummins ISF2.8 turbocharged diesel engines with power from 122 to 163 hp. With. and 2.5–2.8 liter diesel engines with a capacity of 110–115 hp. With. depending on modification. For now, the Foton Toano will be equipped with a 5- or 6-speed manual transmission. By the way, the developers did not deny themselves the pleasure of presenting a passenger electric vehicle based on Foton Toano at the LCV stand.

In fact, the Shanghai Auto Show is a platform for displaying passenger cars. At the same time, one of the exhibition halls was partially given over to commercial vehicles. Here's what we managed to see there.

Prefaced by the story, I note that all my statements are subjective, since the Chinese market is a dark forest for us. Rather, these are the observations of a European who attended a Chinese automobile exhibition.

First of all, it is worth noting that almost all the brands known to us in Russia involved in the production of light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles were present at the exhibition. Buses don't count, there is a Busworld here.

First observation. In an effort to rank with the leading manufacturers of commercial vehicles, Chinese manufacturers are creating numerous alliances. To the already mentioned Foton with FotonDaimler Automotive, you can add the JV Jiangling Motors Co., Ltd. (JMC) with Turkish Ford Trucks, SAIC Motor with its SAIC-Iveco Hongyan Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd. and Naveco (Nanjing Iveco) Ltd.

Second life of LDV Maxus. But we could “be trotters”...

For example, JMC, in cooperation with Ford Trucks, will promote JH476 Ironman trucks in the Chinese market with a 4x2 and 6x4 wheel arrangement, with engines of 365, 390 and 420 hp. s., which are an exact copy of the well-known Ford Cargo H476.

The Hongyan brand, owned by SAIC Motor, presented the Genlyon model, read Iveco Stralis/Trakker of previous generations, designed for the transportation of bulk cargo. While we usually use “locomotive couplers” for this purpose, here we decided to use a van on an 8x4 chassis, assisted by a trailer with twin axles. As a result, this hitch is suitable for transporting lightweight cargo up to 116 m3.

The Naveco brand, also owned by SAIC Motor, is actively promoting the previous generation Iveco Daily in the Chinese market. At the same time, this car show was marked by the presentation of the latest generation Daily.

At one time, the LDV Maxus brand, which we “wasted,” it’s hard to find another word, has taken root well on Chinese soil and is actively promoting itself as SAIC Maxus. Moreover, they managed to make not only LCVs under this brand, but also pickups, SUVs and MPVs.

And yet it could not have happened without buses. The Sunwin bus division of the same SAIC Motor showed an electric articulated city bus 18-meter SWB6188EV. Reading the numbers between the hieroglyphs, it was possible to understand that here, too, Europeans could not do without. In particular, Volvo Buses. Although, we must pay tribute, now Chinese developers of power supplies are among the most advanced in the world. By the way, this explains the presence of countless electric vehicles, buses and electric scooters.

Second observation. Using the experience of leading foreign component manufacturers, the truck platforms of the future are being created here in the hope that with their help they will be able to conquer the whole world. One of these developments was the JAC H330 (Shualing World Truck), well-known in Russia Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Corp., Ltd. (JAC).

Her World Truck project is clearly aimed at world domination, no less. As was clear from the statements of the developers, this truck will be no different from the best European representatives. Availability of 220 different configurations with expansion up to 300, the possibility of building both conventional and electric versions. Ergonomics, reliability, and the use of innovations in the field of operational fleet management are just an incomplete list of what this truck will have. By the way, joint work with the American company Navistar made it possible to create an engine with improved fuel efficiency by 30% and reduced emissions of harmful substances by 50%. As proof of the seriousness of intentions, seriously modified JAC K5W and JAC K7W trucks were presented, where the letter W clearly hints at the commonality with the “World Truck”.

Chinese automakers are no strangers to the use of gas fuel. Also well-known in Russia, Sinotruk (China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Corp., Ltd. / CNHTC) presented the Sitrak C7H-G CNG truck tractor in a 6x2 and 6x4 version. The capacity of the gas cylinder is 950 liters, with a potential increase to 1500 liters in the future.

Observation three. The peculiarity of the work of foreign companies in the Chinese market is that they are obliged to organize a full-fledged assembly of cars in China. The following brands were present at the exhibition: Korean Hyundai with its branch Sichuan Hyundai Motor Co. and Japanese Isuzu with QingLing & Isuzu.

The premiere of the updated Mighty model took place at the Hyundai stand. In all likelihood, its assembly will begin soon in China. Next to the new product stood a minibus based on an all-metal Solati van (better known in our country as the H350) and a Trago Xcient truck tractor (or simply Xcient) with the traditional 6x4 wheel arrangement in China. While the assembly of the first car is still in question, the Trago Xcient is already in full production.

But at the Isuzu stand, with all the diversity of the presented model range, the latest generation of the Giga heavy truck with the V61 index (most likely for the Chinese market) was noticed. Its assembly will also be carried out in China. The machine can be supplied both for single use with the installation of various types of superstructures (4x2, 350 hp and 8x4, 380 hp), and as a truck tractor with a 4x2 wheel arrangement with a power of 420 hp. and 6x4 with 460 hp.

I would like to note that Foton is re-entering the Russian market. The Foton brand is already well known in your country, but now we are taking it to a new level. Already this year we have many events planned so that people in Russia can become better acquainted with our cars, conveying more complete information to potential buyers. We are confident that this will help create a positive image of our brand and promote it in the market of Russia and the CIS countries. I am glad that I have the opportunity to meet with representatives of Russian media and answer questions.

— Tell me, in 2012, an agreement was signed with Daimler in Beijing regarding the construction of a Foton Motor plant for the production of OM457 engines. What is the current state of affairs?

— Next year there will be an official launch of its full-scale production. Today you saw a presentation of a truck equipped with an OM457 engine.

— Make it clear, you have a joint venture with Cummins. You produce a line of engines with displacement from 2.8 to 12 liters. Why do you need another similar engine?

— In fact, from 2.8 to 13 liters. The American engine is good, but not all of our customers want to buy it. There are customers who want a Mercedes-Benz engine, so a certain audience will buy these. We conducted a market analysis and decided that it would be advisable to offer such motors both in China and throughout the world.

— Estimated production volume?

— I can’t say for sure yet. I only know that the plant’s capacity is designed for 50 thousand.

— Trucks of the Super Truck generation are presented as FotonDaimler products. What is “Daimer” about them?

— This enterprise was created jointly with Daimler in a 50/50 ratio. Each company will invest 5 billion yuan in the development of this enterprise, which is why it is called FotonDaimler. There is a lot of Daimler in it - quality control and technological processes. It is very important. A lot of effort and time was spent to implement these processes. Agree, when a person is born, he doesn’t know how to do anything. Only after higher education does he receive good knowledge and skills.

Accordingly, I see the answer as follows: Daimler is an equity participant in the enterprise, carries out technical quality control and provides its aggregate base. For example, an engine. But it is not a fact that if a car has a Cummins engine, it cannot be called FotonDaimler. This is produced by FotonDaimler. Let's say the cabin here is exclusively our design. And then Foton has the right to purchase engines or gearboxes from global manufacturers.

— Tell me, what of what is presented at the exhibition will be supplied to Russia in the future?

— Firstly, this is heavy-duty equipment. The so-called Super Truck series. Under the designation H5, it will be certified in Russia in June of this year. After receiving OTTS in the next half of the year, this 4x2 vehicle in European version will be offered on the Russian market with a robotic gearbox. The second model is Aumark S1, internal designation M4. This is the fourth generation of our light-duty trucks. This model, I think, will officially begin to be sold in December. In July we will begin its certification, and the OTTS should be received by the Comtrans exhibition. This series will be a complete replacement for our existing series until the end of next year. On January 1, 2022, our production of light commercial vehicles will completely switch to the M4 series.

As you know, the Tunland pickup truck is already on sale in Russia. The Toano model is next. She has modifications of length 5; 5.5 and 6 meters. Passenger capacity - up to 12 seats. In the future, various options will be offered - from all-metal cargo vans to minibuses. The cars should enter the Russian market at the beginning of 2018. Specifically - in April.

— Let's go back to 2012. The so-called “5-3-1” strategy was announced, which, in particular, provided for the construction of a plant in Russia for 100 thousand units of equipment. How are things going with this?

— None of this has been implemented yet. Due to the fact that in 2013–2014. A crisis broke out in Russia. We are currently negotiating. You remember, in 2013 the market in Russia was 3 million cars. And then organizing the assembly of 100 thousand was not a problem. Now there are not even 1 million 400 thousand. But we see that sales will grow in the near future.

We are working in this direction, but we will be very careful. Most likely, we will look for different partners. We are not going to lump all Foton models into one pile. The main goal at the moment is to develop sales. Once sales reach a certain level, this will be an excellent reason to invest in production.

— How many Foton cars were sold in Russia in 2016?

— 722 units of commercial vehicles and about 60 passenger vehicles. I can explain why: it’s without a single advertisement, that is, a person came, saw it in the showroom, and bought it.

— Plans for 2022?

— 1000 units. - commercial vehicles, 100 - heavy duty vehicles and 1500 - SUVs and pickup trucks. But I think realistically – 80% of these figures.

— How many dealers do you have in Russia?

— This year we plan to increase the passenger line to 40 by the end of the year. At the moment we have 18. The commercial line is about the same. We are ready to increase the number to 30, and currently there are 20 dealers. We require new dealers to meet sales standards for our commercial vehicles. They will require branding, a certain sales volume, availability of service, certification, diagnostic equipment, spare parts, and so on. Simply put, we are taking a more civilized path.

- Who is your buyer? Are these government agencies or private ones?

— Various: municipal, logistics companies. Passenger transportation in China is carried out by both state and private companies. But government procurement requires you to be on a special list, thanks to which you receive subsidies from the state. We are on such a list. This makes our work much easier. I think it's the same in Russia. This is called government support.

— What now with the supply of spare parts, with the organization of warranty service, what are the terms?

— We are already organizing our central warehouse in Moscow. These are class A warehouses. We fill the warehouses with spare parts for new cars, especially trucks. Before the start of deliveries of the Super Truck series, we will deliver the required number of spare parts. We will provide the rest with spare parts in the near future. The collateral period is improving. I won’t give specific numbers now, but I think our managers or service leaders will give you more detailed information.

— What about warranty obligations?

— 150 thousand or two years. For heavy-duty vehicles, we can do a fairly long service mileage. For now, we are talking about 50 to 100 thousand. But this has not been officially announced. We will announce at the start of sales. The warranty period can be from 3 to 5 years. Perhaps even without mileage restrictions at all.

— What about the supply of buses to Russia?

- It all depends on the needs. Buses are a very sensitive topic. In Russia, almost all deliveries are lobbied by local manufacturers. We cannot participate in tenders or certify them until we know who the buyer will be. This topic is probably not a priority for me right now. If there is a good partner and a good buyer who expresses a wish, then, of course, we will supply them to Russia.
