How much oil is put into a box of Lifan Solano. What kind of oil to pour into a Lifan Solano manual transmission. Main parameters of the Lifan Solano box

Changing the oil in the gearbox on Lifan Solano is strictly defined in the work regulations for a vehicle mileage of 80 thousand km. But, it is recommended to change the oil in the gearbox immediately after purchase, but no later than the first maintenance of the car.

Hey, are you here because you want to change your oil? Ps, I'll tell you how to do it!

After heated discussions and debates on our forum, the majority of participants came to the conclusion that the oil in the Lifan Solano box needs to be changed at intervals of about 40-50 t.km, since Russian operating conditions are more severe than “Chinese” ones.

We also draw your attention to the fact that the oil in the gearbox of a new car must be changed immediately.

This conclusion was made by forum members after they analyzed what they drained after the first filling from the factory. This oil looks like waste and most likely there will be no benefit from it, but you will only get hemorrhoids. And the box on Solano is capricious, even very capricious.

Symptoms when it's time to change the oil

  1. The appearance of extraneous sounds in the gearbox, grinding and squeaking. Sounds can increase or decrease with changes in speed.

Official recommendations and personal experience often differ. This situation is also observed in recommendations for replacing transmission fluid in Lifan Solano. If official factory instructions recommend replacing after the first 80 thousand kilometers, then auto mechanics and owners with extensive experience in unison say that the oil should be changed between the purchase and the first maintenance of the car. And the best way to do this is closer to the purchase, perhaps immediately after it.

And after the first change, new oil is added to the Lifan Solano gearbox every 40 - 50 thousand kilometers.

This difference is observed for a reason. The fact is that a Chinese car is designed for Chinese roads. And recommendations are given with an eye to the fact that the car will drive on good roads. But in reality it turns out that Russian roads are much more difficult to pass by a Chinese car.

A recommendation immediately after purchase may seem strange: why additional expenses, any car owner will say. In fact, this is not just additional expenses, but a kind of attempt to reduce them in the future. Thanks to this simple rule, you can avoid premature car repairs (which is much more expensive than an oil change) for much longer.

Regulations for changing oil in manual transmission

According to the recommendations of experienced car owners and specialists, the oil in the Lifan Solano manual transmission must be changed every 50-100 thousand km. Under unfavorable conditions, regular checks and unscheduled oil monitoring will be required, otherwise there is a risk of serious problems. However, a planned replacement will be sufficient if the following conditions are met:

  • The machine is not subject to heavy loads. A mixed driving cycle with the same mileage on the highway and in the city is allowed. Long-term and intense overloads are excluded, such as driving at maximum speed, towing heavy trailers, etc.
  • No oil leaks, which will require replacing the oil seals, flushing the gearbox and changing the oil. Otherwise, the tightness of the seals will continue to weaken, resulting in water entering the oil, which will become a source of corrosion in the gearbox. The tightness of the seals may be compromised, including due to the presence of dirt deposits in the box, because the oil has not been changed for a long time.
  • The gearbox works normally, gears are engaged easily and effortlessly, there is no hum or extraneous noise.
  • Only original oil or a high-quality analogue with factory parameters is used.

What oil is best to pour into Lifan Smiley, and how to change it without specialists?

Chinese Lifan cars allow independent maintenance.

When carrying out work, the car owner needs to know which oil is best to pour into Lifan Smiley or MaiWay and how to control the lubricant level in the units.

The reliability of starting the engine in winter and the degree of wear of the rubbing elements depend on the correct selection of the grade and type of lubricant.

Selection of oil for the Lifan engine

Lifan MaiWei cars use in-line 4-cylinder engines with spark ignition. A synthetic-based lubricant with a viscosity of 5W30 or 5W40 (API SN) is poured into the crankcase of a 1.5-liter unit.

The crankcase capacity is 2.9 liters, but replacement requires 300-400 ml less lubricant.

At the same time, the oil filter must be replaced; original parts or analogues can be installed (for example, Mann Filter, catalog number W683).

The 1.8 liter engine is designed to use 5W30 API SN synthetic oil, which is poured into the crankcase in an amount of 2.5 liters.

If the car is operated at temperatures below -25°C, it is recommended to switch to 0W40 API SN lubricant, which has increased fluidity at low temperatures.

The manual transmission is filled with API GL-4 lubricant with a viscosity of 75W90, the automatic transmission is filled with Dextron fluid.

How to check the oil in a Lifan engine?

To check the oil level in the crankcase of a 1.5 or 1.8 liter engine, use a dipstick with a plastic handle located under the hood of the car.

Before determining how much lubricant is in the crankcase, you need to start and warm up the power unit (for 5 minutes).

The car must be parked on a level surface, since tilting in the longitudinal or transverse directions leads to a change in the level of liquid lubricant in the crankcase and an erroneous measurement.

The location and type of the dipstick depend on the cylinder displacement:

On 1.5 liter engines, a flat metal rod is used, installed on the left side of the block. The handle is located in the engine compartment next to the battery housing.

On 1.8 liter units, a cable measuring rod is used, equipped with a steel tip with marks for the minimum or maximum filling of the crankcase with lubricant. The dipstick is located on the right side of the crankcase, the handle is located on the side of the air filter housing (closer to the radiator block).

Replacement periods under our operating conditions

Recommendations for choosing engine oil

A bit of a fearful topic, but nevertheless it remains relevant over the years. Almost every Lifan owner is confident that he is using the best oil and often cites rather ridiculous arguments as proof. And the kind of nonsense that “experienced” mechanics talk about with a very confident air—sometimes it makes your hair stand on end. Therefore, today we will dot all the i's. And to do this, let’s turn to the primary source, namely, the instruction manual.

As you can see, there is not a lot of information here; non-alternative viscosity according to SAE 10W-40 and API SL/CF tolerance are indicated. But it's not that simple; As practice shows, Russian manuals recommend pouring “forties” wherever possible, even into Japanese engines originally developed for “twenties”, so this requirement should not be taken as an axiom. To confirm this fact, let us then turn to foreign leadership:

The non-alternative “thirty” has already been prescribed here, but low-temperature viscosity is already suggested to be chosen depending on the season and region, usually “0W” - for winter, “5W” - spring-autumn or all-season, and “10W” - for summer. From the bourgeois manual we can also conclude that the engines were developed for a viscosity of 5W-30 with API SG gasoline approval. The information is also not exhaustive, but these requirements are confirmed by the repair and operation manual from the Monolit publishing house:

Also no admissions, only the uncontested “thirty”.

The New Solano manual already lists SAE 5W-30 and 10W-40 viscosities. But everything falls into place after the release of the Lifan Solano II instruction manual:

Different viscosities according to SAE 5W-30 and 0W-40 are specified here, and most importantly, ACEA A3/B4 and C3 tolerances are indicated:

For those inexperienced in chemical and physical parameters, these numbers are probably useless, and what does this give? And it gives us a lot; It is allowed to pour into our engines only full-ash and medium-ash (to save catalysts) oils with a high value of the HTHS parameter (high-temperature viscosity at high shear rate), i.e. it is prohibited to pour energy-saving ones (with ILSAC, ACEA A1/B1 and A5/B5 approvals) and low ash (with ACEA C1, C2 and C4 approvals). If the engine has Euro 2 firmware and/or the catalysts are knocked out, then full-ash oils are filled in.

It is also interesting to look at the seasonal temperature diagram from Lifan Solano II:

So, let's summarize. The following motor oils are suitable for us in terms of viscosity: for winter - 0W-30 and 0W-40, spring-autumn or all-season - 5W-30 and 5W-40 and for summer - 10W-30 and 10W-40. According to API tolerances - SL, SM and SN. And according to ACEA approvals - A3/B3, A3/B4 and C3. Based on laboratory tests carried out on the website oil-club.ru, I am publishing a list of proven motor oils for Lifan engines:

Signs that the gearbox oil needs to be changed

Lifan Solano automatic transmission, appearance

The comfort of movement on the road depends on the serviceability of the gearbox. Despite the fact that the mechanical components on the Lifan Solano are of high quality, neglecting its maintenance will lead to rapid failure of the unit.

When using the Lifan for a long time, the car owner may encounter a problem such as not engaging the gears. Be sure to check the amount of oil in the gearbox.

When operating a machine with heavy loads on the engine and transmission, gears and transmission teeth may soon break. This is the cause of extraneous sounds from the gearbox.

The driver will be alerted to the fact that the transmission system is malfunctioning by the appearance of extraneous sounds from the gearbox, grinding noises, and unclear activation of speed modes. It is necessary to diagnose the gearbox if there is a hum when driving in reverse.

Thus, the main reason for gearbox wear on the Lifan Solano is sharp maneuvering on the roadway, rapid acceleration and braking.

The first symptoms that it is time to change the gearbox oil are the appearance of knocks and jolts during gear shifts. Speed box repair begins with diagnostics in a technical center, where the reason why the defect occurred is determined.

When should you change your oil?

Several symptoms indicate quite clearly that it is time to change the transmission fluid.

  • if the car’s gearbox begins to make unusual, previously absent sounds, which depend on the speed of movement (they can become louder when accelerating, and vice versa);
  • if, while driving backwards, extraneous noise suddenly appears, the localization of which you determine in the gearbox;
  • if during the gear shifting process you notice unclear actions, insensitive responses or delays.

In all three cases, there is a high probability that the problem is in the oil, and it’s time to replace it.

Oil selection

For Lifan Solano you need to purchase synthetic transmission fluid with a certain viscosity - 75w90. Such indicators were established for a reason: higher viscosity can have a very bad effect on the condition of the bearings, up to the need to replace them.

Motul oil is often chosen for Lifan Solano

Of the most popular brands, experienced car enthusiasts highlight the following: Castrol, Mobil, Shell, Motul, Liqui Molly. There are no clear criteria in favor of them, this is just personal experience based on a subtle instinct regarding everything related to the car. But you, of course, can use any other oil of suitable viscosity, the brand of which you trust.

In order to determine how much oil is required, drain the used liquid into a separate container and estimate its quantity. You can add a little more than was poured at the factory, this will have a beneficial effect on the gearbox.

Replacement process

First, we find a hole, a lift or an overpass. You can get by with a regular curb, but then it will be more difficult and the chances of you spilling and getting dirty will be greater.

Necessary tool

You will need:

  1. Key 22 (filler and drain holes).
  2. 18mm wrench (for inspection hole).
  3. Funnel with hose.
  4. New oil.
  5. It’s not necessary, but you can also add “Maximum Transmission Atomic Metal Conditioner with Revitalizant 1 Stage” from Hado. Here opinions are divided, some consider this action to be useful, while others argue that it will only get worse.
  6. Eyes that will find two plugs on the gearbox.

Castrol Castrol MOTUL MOTUL XADO Key for 22 Key for 18

How much oil will be needed

To completely change the oil with Lifan Solano, you will need to fill in no more than 3 liters.

What kind of oil to fill

You will need synthetic, transmission, 75w90 - a lower viscosity will kill your bearings, although some people pour 85w90 all the time, and don’t want to hear about anything else. By the way, according to the requirements, the manufacturer recommends 85W90 - mineral water.

Preferably Castrol, Mobil, Shell, Motul, Liqui Moly - this is not advertising, this is the experience of forum members.

Oil change for Lifan Solano

  1. We drive the car into the pit, go down, look at the picture and look for two traffic jams. One of them is drain, the other is filler (see figure below)

A - filler plug, located on the side, it is difficult to get to it without a hole B - drain plug, it is even more difficult to get to it

    1 - filler 2 - drain

  2. We take a container where we will drain the old oil (working off). Place it perpendicular to the cork.
  3. We unscrew the filler plug with a 18 mm wrench to make it easier for the oil to drain. Then we unscrew the drain control with a 22 key. Then we unscrew the drain hole with a 22 key. Please note that you need to twist carefully so as not to strip the thread, so you may need a lever.

    Unscrew with a key 18

    Unscrew with a 22 key

  4. We wait until the old oil drains out. Depending on its condition, the process can take a long time, from 20 minutes to an hour. You can speed up by jacking up the rear right wheel to tilt the box down towards the traffic jam.
  5. We begin to pour new oil through the filler hole. To do this, take a package of new oil, open it, there may be a convenient nozzle (a syringe - in the photo above from Castrol you can see such a syringe). If there is none, then you will have to use a funnel with a hose. As soon as clean oil flows from the drain plug, tighten the plug.

A homemade funnel that every Lifan grower should have, it will come in handy (not Lifan Solano in the photo).

  6. Next, tighten the filler plug. Let's start. We're jamming it. Check the oil level in the gearbox.
  7. If you wish, you can fill in the “metal conditioner”; to do this, warm up the car for about 10 minutes, unscrew the filler hole again, and pour this liquid into it using the syringe on the Hado package. You tighten all the plugs, but without fanaticism, and use them.

Gearbox for Lifan Solano

The box on the Solano is called LF481Q3, and the engine on the Solano is also named in the same way. The transmission is 5-speed (5 forward and 1 reverse), has a differential. The front gears have synchronizers, but the rear gears do not have synchronizers. Therefore, sometimes there may be noise when turning into reverse.

The synchronizer serves to equalize the rotation speed of the shaft and gear, thanks to which gears shift smoothly and the service life of all mechanisms is significantly increased.

Disadvantages include: unclear engagement of first or reverse gear on some cars, lack of protection against accidental engagement of reverse gear. I rarely encountered noise in the box.

Main parameters of the Lifan Solano box

Now a little about oil. GL5 transmission oils contain special additives that create a durable film on the metal surface. Thus, the GL5 resists loads well, reduces friction and the gears in the gearbox travel longer.

But these same additives will not allow synchronizers to work normally, because their work is based on frictional force. Therefore, the use of GL5 oils may lead to earlier wear of synchronizers.

But GL4, on the contrary, will retain synchronizers longer, but will care much less about gear wear. Well, in general, no one knows in advance where it will fall, so don’t bother too much with the choice of oil, the box will not last forever...

Some photos of disassembling the Solano box

To remove the box, you need to remove the front wheels, subframe and front wheel drive shafts. Jack up the box, unscrew the bolts and remove it.

  • Let's disassemble the box
  • 1. Remove the release bearing and clutch fork
  • 2 Remove the reverse switch, clamp and unscrew the bolts securing the gear selection mechanism.

3 Unscrew and remove the speed sensor, unscrew the gearbox housing bolts

4 Remove the bolt securing the reverse idler gear axle and the gearbox housing bolts. Separate the gearbox housing from the clutch housing and remove it.

5 Pull up the reverse idler gear shaft and remove the reverse gear itself. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the reverse gear lever.

6 Separate from the clutch housing as a single unit: the input shaft assembly, the secondary shaft assembly, the gearshift rods with forks. If necessary, to facilitate the process of separating the shafts from the crankcase, tap with a plastic hammer (or through a wooden spacer) on the end of the input shaft from inside the clutch housing (from the side of the release bearing guide sleeve).

7 Remove the differential assembly from the clutch housing with the driven gear of the main drive.

What Oil to Use in Lifan Solano

For the Lifan Solano model, the following motor oils are used: 10W-40 and 5W-40, depending on the degree of viscosity - synthetic or semi-synthetic.

The car manufacturer advises changing the oil every 10,000 km, or once a year, depending on which comes first.

The following motor oils are suitable for this car: Castrol, Mobil 1, Motul and many others.

How is the oil changed?

The car manufacturer advises changing the oil every 10,000 km, or once a year, depending on which comes first.

It is necessary to change the oil at the required intervals, in accordance with the special management for the operation of the vehicle. The engine oil is poured into the engine, the type of which is indicated in the instructions, according to the management.

But what should you do if you need to add oil on the road, but you don’t have clear information about what kind of oil is currently in the engine, or the exact same type of oil is not available for sale? Is it possible to combine motor oils (?) - read about it here.

In order for the Lifan Solano car to work without failures and defects, it is necessary to select for it an engine oil that is suitable specifically for this model, in addition, you will need to install an oil filter and an o-ring under the drain plug.

To start filling, you need to find the place where the oil filter is located and the place where the crankcase drain plug is located. After general preparation, all that remains is to drive the car onto the overpass, and this can be considered preparation for the main work.

Video: What Oil to Pour into Lifan Solano

First, you need to turn off the car engine

First, we turn off the engine and put the car in gear and the handbrake. Warm oil combines easier. We remove the cap from the neck of the cylinder head, and later remove the pan drain plug, but before that, you need to place a container underneath to drain the oil that has already been applied. The main thing is not to get burned with all this, because the oil is quite hot.

We wipe the lumen and plug using a clean rag after draining all the oil, then tighten the plug and replace the old O-ring.

We remove the used filter, clean its seating area, then lubricate the threads of the new spare part and the sealing ring with oil, and screw the filter in completely.

After all this is done, simply fill in the engine oil before removing the dipstick from the neck opening. First, fill in 1/2 of the oil that needs to be poured, waiting until it drains. After that, we take the dipstick and measure how much oil is left and add the rest.

We start the car engine, check it for serviceability, to make sure that everything went as necessary, when turning off the engine, we check whether the drain and filter plugs have leaked, and also carry out a control measurement using a dipstick.

What kind of oil is in the first fill from the factory?

For more information about the 1.6-liter engine, read the material: properties of the Lifan Solano engine. The manufacturer recommends using XADO oil 75w90, this is a universal modern synthetic oil that will amaze with its durability, has the highest viscosity index, which ensures trouble-free operation of transmissions at temperatures (-40°C).

What oil do car owners recommend?

According to the advice of car enthusiasts, it is recommended to fill in Mannol oil, when used, oil consumption is barely noticeable. The main thing is to choose a viscosity class of SAE 0W40 and API properties not lower than SM, in severe frosts.

Which oil is best to use for the gearbox on Lifan Solano?

The installed gearbox on this foreign car is demanding on the quality of the added fuel. Transmission oils offered by the automotive market differ in antifriction properties, viscosity grade and other indicators. This is exactly what the car owner needs to pay attention to when purchasing this fuel. To completely change the gearbox oil, about 3 liters are required. Preference should be given to synthetic lubricants with a viscosity index of 75w-90. Among the brands it could be Castrol, Mobil, Shell.

These oils will ensure the correct functioning of the gearbox for a long time.

The frequency of oil changes in the Lifan Solano gearbox is 50,000 km. However, many car owners decide to make their first fuel change immediately after purchasing a new car.

It should be noted that in addition to mechanics, a foreign car may have a CVT. With this gearbox, fuel changes occur at intervals of 60,000 km. It takes about 5 liters of new fluid. ESSO EZL799A45 can be used as oil.

Engine oil for Lifan Solano engine

Lifan Solano is a C-class car introduced in 2007. In total, two generations of Solano are known, and the model is produced in China, Russia, Iran and Tunisia. The main markets for the four-door sedan are China, Russia, Brazil and Vietnam. At the same time, the car first appeared in the Russian Federation in 2010. The model stands out for its strict design in the European style - with streamlined shapes and borrowings from famous brands. For example, from the front the car is similar to previous Volkswagen cars.

How often to change the oil in a Lifan Solano engine

Owners of the Lifan Solano are recommended to change the engine oil every 10 thousand km, which is the limit for severe operating conditions. An earlier oil change may be necessary if there is a suspicion that the cleaning ability of the lubricant has deteriorated, which has darkened and began to contain metal shavings. In addition, the engine may overheat and reduce power. In this situation, it is better to reduce the engine oil change period to 6-7 thousand km.

How much oil to pour into the Lifan Solano car engine

First generation (2010-2016)

The 2010 Solano is known in its homeland as the Lifan 620. The car is designed on the platform of the Japanese model Toyota Corolla E120 2000. The sedan went into production with 1.6 and 1.8 liter petrol engines, with a power of 106 and 125 hp. With. respectively. The engines were combined with a manual transmission or a CVT, the latter being available only for the younger engine. In 2010, the car began to be produced in Cherkessk. In 2014, Solano received a light restyling with a modified front end and additional equipment. In addition, a 100-horsepower 1.5-liter engine became available, which replaced both previous engines. The new engine was combined with a variator or “mechanics”.
