Fire safety.
More safety for passengers and driver: EU Directive ECE-R 118 . According to the new version of the EU directive ECE-R 118.02, for buses newly approved for use from the summer of 2022, additional fire tests are required for materials in the passenger compartment, engine compartment and individual heated rooms. Since maximum safety is a core value for the company, and compliance with legal requirements is a given obligation, all materials used in the interior of our buses are currently subject to special checks and, if necessary, changes are made to the design.
The changes in plastics are not noticeable either visually or to the touch. As part of the qualification according to EU Directive ECE-R118.02, the selection of materials for seat upholstery is also changed. The restriction will only affect the variety of shades of colors and patterns (drawings). The company's high requirements for the quality of upholstery materials in the collection in terms of fabric characteristics will remain at the same significant level.

The new Travego M received a third axle with independent suspension. For many of its analogues and predecessors, it was rigidly fixed, as a result of which maneuverability was not at the highest level. The airliner also lost in terms of comfort. The new axle design resulted in a weight saving of 150 kg, which had a positive effect on dynamics and comfort. In addition, the front axle has been redesigned and an electronic level control system has been added.
The level of comfort in the third generation "tourist" has been improved as much as possible. A pleasant, soft interior lighting system catches the eye. And in general, the feeling is that the car was not created to transport four dozen passengers, but for each individual. The decorative elements in the new color design are pleasing to the eye, and I personally have no complaints about the interior architecture. Color 19-inch monitors were perfect for the yard.

…While my German friend Hermann was talking about the changes in the new “tourist”, the route switches to local roads, where meeting with a tractor or combine is perceived as stressful: there is virtually no shoulder, and the asphalt strip is so narrow that we are side-by-side with oncoming buses and trucks a few centimeters. In small towns and villages there is even less room for traffic. The fact that trucks have a hard time here is evidenced by the drawn stripes on the upholstery of the second floor balcony. A protruding pipe made of new galvanized steel is also evidence of “local battles.” And here is a broken lantern on a protruding beam near a roadside cafe. Yes, traces of material damage are visible in many bottlenecks.
We pass the resort town of Bad Herenalb with thermal springs. It's time to relax, but such a vacation, alas, is not provided for in the program. Distracting the driver with conversations while driving is not allowed, and no one distracts me. At the same time, I myself am bursting with curiosity: what is the situation with 3-axle “tourists” in Russia? Later I asked this question to Elena Kashcheeva, a representative. It turns out that the supplier of the Mercedes-Benz and Setra bus brands has not yet certified such passenger vehicles at all. But Mostransavto operates two Setra S 419 GT-HD units and another 5 Setra S 415 GT-HD units are coming out of leasing. There are no three-axle Travego-3s in Russia yet.

By the time the third generation Travego appeared, 2,850 units of buses with that name had been produced and sold. This is not surprising, because Mercedes-Benz is a recognized market leader. Russian sports clubs go to training, camps and competitions on Travego, and there’s nothing to say about Europe. Suffice it to note that Travelo M carries the German national football team.
