Mercedes-Benz dump trucks are available in various variations. The existing model line includes Actros, Atego and Axor dump trucks.

Actros

Actros dump trucks are distinguished by their high load capacity. These models are equipped with 8 or 6 liter engines. The power plant is paired with a 12-speed automatic transmission.

Atego

Atego dump trucks have several different body unloading options. All-wheel drive trucks offer maximum functionality. Diesel installation components produce power in the range of 156-286 hp. In this case, the maximum torque can reach 1120 Nm.

The gearbox has a six or nine-speed design. The most powerful power plants are equipped with the option of hydropneumatic activation.

Axor

Such dump trucks are characterized by a wide range of components for power plants and gearboxes. The most powerful engine is a 12-liter unit capable of producing 428 hp. This engine variation is relevant for dump trucks with 6x4 and 8x4 wheel arrangements. Optionally, such models can be equipped with a system that can evenly distribute the braking force between the axles.

Mercedes Axor 1835: technical specifications

The production and development of Axor was carried out by three Mercedes Benz factories: Turkish, Brazilian and German. But the first edition of 2001 still took place in Germany. For a long time, this car remained a complete mystery for Russia, despite attempts to supply extended configurations at basic prices. The situation was saved by the general boom in construction and the lack of offers from competitors.

The high reliability and friendliness of the electronics, easily connected to many standard units, allows Axor to be used by a wide range of utilities.

Weak interest in new cars was compensated by the used vehicle market. The number of sales in the used sector is twice as many as “off-the-line” models. Cars are often purchased through leasing, a popular service in Russia. One of the reasons for the restrained demand is the technical shortcomings of the machines. This is partly why the 1835 was replaced by an improved model - the Mercedes Axor 1836.

Internal systems Axor 1835

The 1835 marking speaks of two important characteristics. The total weight of the vehicle is 18 tons with a maximum distribution of 7 tons on the front axle and 11.5 tons on the rear axle. At the same time, the wheel formula is typically urban: 4x2. The tractor-trailer can reach the 40-ton mark, that is, “long-range combat” is assumed by the manufacturer.

The vehicles are equipped with engines that meet environmental requirements from Euro-3 to Euro-5 (on vehicles of the latest years of production). Mercedes Axor 1835 is equipped with a 354-horsepower diesel unit labeled OM 457. The six-cylinder engine has a displacement of 12 liters, for which a maximum torque of 1850 Nm is available already at 1100 rpm.

In the S version, the Mercedes Axor cabin is not impressive in terms of space. A spring mattress does not add popularity points either.

The peculiarity of the engine is light, quick start and wear resistance, and German build quality. The standard transmission is a 9-speed manual transmission. For the middle price category it is too budget option. Moreover, automatic Power Shift transmissions of up to 16 speeds are optionally available.

Cabin Mercedes Axor 1835

The base cabin is a Mercedes “L-ka”, but, again, made narrow and low for reasons of economy, in contrast to parallel series of German tractors. One sleeping shelf, not very spacious drawers, and rustic (but at the same time very functional) decoration did not please the drivers. Particularly noteworthy is the small-volume toolbox and the drawer under the “sleeping bag” for personal items without access from the street. It's a small thing, but inconvenient.

As a result, cabins with two sleeping bags and a high roof are ordered more often, but the price of the car also increases. Entry into the cabin is made easier thanks to the presence of handrails and the doors opening 90 degrees. Finishing is no frills, plastic and fabric upholstery. Heating in the car is provided by a 2 kW air dryer.

There is no additional thermal insulation, just as there is no liquid heater for the engine. A frozen engine and an insufficiently warm cabin are a winter reality for a tractor. The design of the car is reliable and designed to withstand good loads. The front leaf springs are combined with air springs at the rear. The braking system is automatically controlled, with fail-safe disc brakes with ABS on all wheels. The capacity of 12-V batteries is 220 Ah at 12V.

Price

The price of the new budget Mercedes-Benz Axor LS 1843 is 3.3 million rubles. But the price for the new Mercedes Axor 1840 2022 with a 2-bed extended cabin, a high roof and an aerodynamic body kit, which itself costs 3 thousand euros, already costs 5.6 million rubles.

Used Mercedes Axor trucks with a 12 liter engine, depending on the year of manufacture and with a mileage of around 1 million km, have different prices. Operation of Mercedes Axor 1835

About ten years of operation of the car allowed us to see the full picture. An economical and compact tractor is not without its drawbacks. For Russian companies and owners, this is a budget car, but buyers should take into account frequent breakdowns due to diluted diesel fuel. The fuel consumption of the Mercedes Axor 1835 will be low if you have to drive with proven diesel fuel. The tank capacity is impressive – 650 and 500 liters.

Original spare parts are extremely expensive. The solution is to repair it with analogue spare parts, which are several times cheaper, undergo engine maintenance on time and change filters. Buying a new car can cost a pretty penny, but leasing and used car options can significantly reduce the economic burden. The main thing remains German practicality and the desire to make high-quality transport - the Mercedes Axor 1835 rarely encounters repairs.

All performance characteristics of the Axor are normal, and there is a choice of chassis with different saddle heights. However, drivers are not satisfied with the cramped cabin in the base 1835.

Suspension and frame

The Mercedes Actros is based on a robust frame with side members with holes pitched at 50 mm. Due to this, it was possible to simplify the installation of attachments and platforms. Fastening in the front area is carried out via bolted connections. The design of the family was worked out in detail, which had a positive effect on stability and maneuverability. An important role here was played by a new type of frame - more rigid and wider. It was created for highway trucks, after which it was repeatedly tested and verified. The final versions introduced several changes that improve operating comfort and safety.

The latest Mercedes Actros models are equipped with air suspension with 2 air springs. On-board modifications use a similar air suspension with 4 air springs and a body vibration control mechanism, which increases the level of safety. The car's suspension also uses special parabolic springs with increased corrosion protection. All models have shock absorbers and axle stabilizers.

Advantages and disadvantages of the tractor

The Mercedes Benz Axor has many more advantages than disadvantages, but first of all we note the disadvantages:

• It is worth remembering that the car was not designed for cold weather, so this can cause you a lot of difficulties. As an example, it is worth pointing out that the Mercedes Benz Axor does not have heaters.
• The gearbox is also poorly suited for our roads - work becomes difficult at starts and when climbing.
• The front trailing rod end is not removable, so if it breaks, it will be necessary to replace the entire part.
• This leads to another bad news – expensive maintenance. Original Mercedes Axor parts are much more expensive than we would like, so it is quite common to find non-original components in such cars.

The problem with fuel is also very sad - Russian fuel is not clean enough for the Mercedes Axor, so there is an urgent need to install additional filters. Also, the original bridge seals, based on multiple reviews, are completely unreliable.

The advantages of the Mercedes Benz Axor are numerous, I would like to list the main ones.

1. All modern models are equipped with the same engine. However, it has a wide range of power settings.
2. The cylinder block is a cast system that includes aluminum; the cylinder head is the same for the cylinders. The transmitting crankshaft is a forged, but at the same time high-precision element, which is reinforced with seven three-layer bearings.
3. The system has counterweights that stabilize the engine.
4. Gearboxes have up to 16 steps and are equipped with tunnel housings.
5. Its carrying capacity, compared to its competitors and even its brothers, makes it stand out.

The ABS system is paired with Telligent brakes. The electronics of the Mercedes Benz Axor are very accurate and malfunction extremely rarely.
