User manual
Read the instruction manual - it will help you assemble and start the walk-behind tractor for the first time. The device is supplied disassembled; during assembly it is necessary to attach the wheels and control handle to it. After assembly, you can perform the first launch and run-in.
First start
Recommendations for break-in duration vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. For Tarpan, 8 hours is considered sufficient.
During the break-in period, the engine should operate at 2/3 of maximum power. Virgin soil is not processed during this period, since the engine and gearbox of the walk-behind tractor must adapt to the load. After running in, you can work with the walk-behind tractor using all its power.
Service
Follow the manufacturer's recommendations on the types of oil and fuel, otherwise the engine will run intermittently, stall, and quickly exhaust its production life.
SAE 30 oil
Engine oil: for four-stroke air-cooled engines - SAE30/SAE5W-30. Gear oil: SAE 90, SAE 75W/90 (API GL-4, GL-5). Gasoline: AI-92 (93, 95).
The filter must be replaced after 50 operating hours, that is, once every six months. With little use of the walk-behind tractor, you can change the filters as needed.
Basic malfunctions and ways to eliminate them
If the engine does not start, check the gasoline level in the tank and the condition of the spark plug. Start the walk-behind tractor on a flat surface in full assembly.
Further in the table you can see the main malfunctions of gasoline walk-behind tractors with four-stroke engines.
Basic malfunctions and their elimination
If the walk-behind tractor is under warranty and the problem is not solved on your own, contact the service center.
How much oil is in the gearbox of a Tarpan walk-behind tractor?
Types of oils
Oils differ by type (mineral, semi-synthetic, synthetic), areas of application (motor, transmission), and seasons (summer, winter). Gearboxes use transmission oils with various additives.
Classification of gear oils by area of application:
- GL-1 are mineral oils without additives or extreme pressure components. Designed for use at low speeds and loads. Used in spur, worm and spiral bevel gears.
- GL-2 - “mineral water” with increased requirements for anti-friction properties, that is, resistance to abrasion. They are used in worm gears, the operation of which is accompanied by constant friction of parts against each other. May contain special anti-friction additives.
- GL-3 is a lubricant with high anti-wear and extreme pressure properties, that is, they prevent adhesion of contacting surfaces. Designed for moderate speeds and loads. Used in spiral bevel gears.
- GL-4 - oils with high-quality extreme pressure additives. Designed for high speed operation in combination with low torque and vice versa. Used in hypoid transmissions of cars and trucks.
- GL-5 and GL-6 contain an extreme pressure additive containing sulfur and phosphorus. Designed to operate at high speeds at low torques, as well as shock loads on gear teeth. Oils of the GL-6 group, in addition, are designed to operate gears with vertical displacement along the axes. Used in hypoid transmissions of cars.
Changing the oil will not take much time
Is it worth buying a Tarpan motor cultivator?
To roll the walk-behind tractor, two wheels are installed. And in order to regulate the depth of travel of the cutter, a coulter is installed. The walk-behind tractor itself can be easily disassembled into two parts. The wheels and handles are removable. Thanks to this, it easily fits into the trunk of a car.
The main feature of Tarpan is its rather powerful engine, compared to other motor cultivators of this class. Unfortunately, the designers did not provide reverse gear, which is a big disadvantage. The worm gear of the gearbox was installed in a fairly durable housing.
Unfortunately, it does not have a reverse motion due to the large gear ratio. When cultivating heavily planted areas, you often have to pull the cultivator in reverse. This usually happens in places where turning around is not possible.
In this case, the cutter does not turn back, it skids and turns around what was just loosened. It is for this reason that modern motor cultivators are equipped with gearboxes with gear wheels or chain drives. If a worm gear is installed, then only with reverse gear.
Therefore, Tarpan is very convenient for owners of open gardens, and for those who will prepare the soil for further cultivation and sowing. In this case, for ease of control of the walk-behind tractor, there is no great need for reverse gear.
Traction and speed of the Tarpan motor cultivator
The following design features of the motor cultivator are an automatic centrifugal clutch and a detachable “leg”. This allows you to disassemble it into two parts and put it in the trunk of a car, which is a definite plus. On the other hand, thanks to this feature, the clutch “often falls out” when working with a hiller, plow, or digger. If you use an automatic clutch, it has a large actuation inertia, which is unsafe.
To turn on the speed and start the cutter, you need to turn the gas lever. This will lead to an increase in speed, after which the cutter begins to rotate. If it is necessary to stop the cutter urgently, the operator must remove the gas. This will not immediately turn off the cutter, and it will continue to work for some time. In this case, you need to use the “Stop” button.
Also in the structure of the motor-cultivator a new design of the steering rod is used, which allows you to rotate it 360 degrees and adjust the angle of inclination. Thanks to this, the operator can walk next to the motor cultivator, and not along cut furrows or loosened soil.
If you install additional equipment on the Tarpan motor-cultivator, then it will be able to weed, hill, harrow, loosen, mill, etc.
Classification of oil grades
To increase the service life of a gasoline or diesel engine, you need to make the right choice of engine oil. Failure to replace it in a timely manner reduces the service life of the engine. How to choose it, in what quantity, how to pour it into the walk-behind tractor - we’ll talk about this in more detail.
During air cooling, the lubricant settles on the walls of the hot cylinder. These deposits contaminate engine parts and complicate lubrication processes. Therefore, the lubricant contains antioxidant additives. They clean the cylinder walls from carbon deposits and extend the service life of the walk-behind tractor. Different climate zones require the use of different oily liquids. They differ in viscosity, composition and purpose.
By viscosity
Viscosity is determined according to SAE J300 standard. For mechanisms it depends on the following characteristics:
Motor oils are divided into winter and summer. Winter ones are designated with the letter W. Low-viscosity winter grades are often used with SAE designations 0W, 25W, as well as intermediate values 20W, 5W, 15W and 10W. Compositions for use in summer do not have letters in their names. They are characterized by high viscosity and are designated SAE 20, 60, SAE 30 or 40.
Scientists have developed all-season compositions that are used for pouring into walk-behind tractors in summer and winter. Their designations are 5W-40, 10W30.
By composition
In addition to seasonal characteristics, lubricants are divided into types based on composition:
An air-cooled engine heats up quickly during operation. Motor oil reduces its temperature. The wrong category causes a breakdown in the motor. It is not recommended to use synthetic oil in mixture with mineral oil.
By purpose
If there is a need to replace lubricating fluids, each manufacturing company recommends filling in its own brand. For agricultural machines, Honda uses all-season grades 10W-30 of the SF category. Subaru in its recommendations indicates 10W-30 for operation in moderate climates, and 5W-30 in cold regions. Oil quality category - SE.
Lifan products require summer grade SAE-30, and SAE 10W-30 for winter conditions. There are no conditions for quality category. Motoblocks of the Kaluga Engine company are filled with an all-season composition 10W-30 or 15W-30 of SF or SH quality.
Attachments
The advantage of the Tarpan cultivator is its good aggregation with additional implements, which turns it into a universal agricultural assistant. The manufacturer produces a whole range of original attachments for Tarpan motor cultivators, while many owners use attachments from other brands and often make additional accessories themselves.
Mounted implements used: plows and hillers of various modifications, flat cutters, rakes, weeders, rotary cutters, rotary mower, blade shovel, crow's feet, potato digger, trolley, lugs, various hitches.
Installing a special frame with wheels will allow you to easily move the cultivator around the site. Using an ice chipper, you can clear paths and alleys on the site. With a mounted snow blower, you can throw away snow up to 5 m. You can quickly tidy up an overgrown lawn.

This cultivator is equipped with a 2.2 kW electric motor. Despite its low power, it has sufficient weight to process large areas. The width of the cultivated land during cultivation is 35-70 cm, the depth is 20-30 cm. The agricultural machine can be rationally combined with various attachments, and the possibilities of use are limited only by the length of the electrical cord.
Modifications and technical characteristics
The most popular variations are TMZ-MK-03 and TMZ-MK-04. They can have an American or Japanese engine. Accordingly, B&S or Honda is added to the name (the latter is more expensive). MK-03 and MK-04 differ from each other only in the gearbox (its gear ratio).
Since both of the above-mentioned engines are not cheap, the manufacturers decided to create a more budget option, equipping it with the Chinese “Champion” G160VK engine with a power of 5.5 horsepower. The modification was named TMZ-MK-03-Champion. There is another “Chinese” of the same power - the Zongshen XP200 motor, but it is installed much less frequently.

Cultivator in action
Along with the above features, you can also point out some disadvantages of this device:
- This cultivator design does not provide for reverse gear. This makes it difficult to work on small beds or those that have a complex configuration.
- When working, you constantly need to press the gas button with your thumb. This can be tiring when working for long periods of time.
- When rotating the cutters, it often turns out that weeds wrap around them. In this case, you have to stop work and clean them with your hands.
- The oil change procedure in this walk-behind tractor is inconveniently organized. In order to do this, you need to remove the clutch and unscrew several nuts.
Here are a few more features of the device in question:
- The width of the working strip in various cases can be from 25 to 100 cm.
- The depth of tillage is from 16 to 25 cm.
- The transmission used in the design allows movement at several speeds.
Key Features
Considering the features of the walk-behind tractor, we can highlight:
- excellent maneuverability;
- comfortable control;
- ease of refilling.
As for the first characteristic, it is ensured thanks to large wheels, because the tread with an aggressive pattern will go over any surface, even if the terrain is not smooth. The handle of the walk-behind tractor allows for comfortable control; it can be adjusted, which makes operation convenient. The fuel tank of the walk-behind tractor is located in an easily accessible place, so you can refuel the tank in a matter of seconds. Its neck is wide enough, which makes the process easier.
Cost of attachments
If you are interested in Tarpan brand products, you may have to additionally purchase attachments for motor cultivators. For example, a hiller, which is used with the Tarpan 03 and Tarpan 04 models, can be purchased for 940 rubles. Whereas a frame with transport wheels will cost the consumer 1,033 rubles.
Sometimes buyers are also interested in lugs. If their size is 260 x 80 mm, then you will have to pay 1,480 rubles for the set. With dimensions of 400 x 170 and 500 x 170 mm, lugs will cost 1,790 rubles. Attachments for motor cultivators are also potato diggers, which cost 624 rubles. will cost 1,100 rubles, and weeders, or rather a set of them, will cost 1,160 rubles. A walk-behind universal hitch used to attach to a walk-behind tractor costs 2,100 rubles, a houndstooth cutter costs 2,880 rubles.
Today, tarpans are called not only unbridled wild horses that previously existed on our planet. This name was given to domestic motor cultivators, which are intended for plowing areas of up to 15 acres. They are distinguished by a reliable powerful engine, high quality parts and excellent performance.
Spare parts
Hiller
Can be used with the following models: 03, 04, 07. The part itself consists of frames and blades, which are adjusted by means of a beam with holes.
The hiller must be used with a weeder or lug.
Only all of them together create the desired traction force. Can be installed in place of the depth regulator. It is not always easy for a novice gardener to distinguish a classic hiller from a plow, however, they are significantly different: a hiller is a symmetrical device that is equipped with two wings-mouldboards.
Hiller
During operation, these wings are able to push the soil to the sides - right and left, depending on the progress of movement. The plow cannot be called symmetrical. It is equipped with one blade and moves the soil only to the left or right.
"Tarpan" cultivator contains a lot of useful information on the choice of equipment, its care and all the necessary parts. There are models where the wings are replaced by two spherical disks. Such hillers are called disk hillers. They lift the soil well and perfectly clear the area of weeds.
Lugs
Model 260x80 is used for “Tarpan 03, 04”, and 400x170 or 500x170 is used for model “07-01”.
Lugs or wheels made of metal with hooks are used to improve the device's traction with the soil.
Lugs
According to their characteristics, the parts vary in size and fasteners. They are made from a square profile regardless of diameter, have welded hubs (polyhedrons or round holes of different diameters) or have holes to attach the hub.
When choosing lugs, it is necessary to take into account the model of the walk-behind tractor, as well as the tasks that are assigned to them.

The Tarpan cultivator was developed in 1991. After many modifications and improvements, in 1997 it was sent for mass production. It quickly gained popularity among buyers thanks to its powerful and reliable Briggs and Stratton engine, manufactured in the USA. This mid-class motor cultivator easily and efficiently processes clay soils.
Tarpan device
Tarpan cultivators are equipped with four-stroke carburetor engines Champion, Honda or Zongshen with a capacity of 5.5 liters. With. As well as the American “Briggs and Stratton” with a power of 6 hp. With. Gasoline with an octane number of at least 85 is used as fuel. The Tarpan gasoline cultivator is designed for work in dachas, orchards and vegetable gardens.
Equipped with an automatic centrifugal clutch, thanks to which the tool can easily be disassembled into 2 parts. As a result, it can be transported even in the trunk of passenger cars. You just need to unscrew 2 bolts with a wrench. The device moves on two wheels. The cultivation process occurs as follows: as soon as the engine reaches the required speed, the gearbox shaft begins to rotate.
The cutters move, cut the soil, and then crush and mix it.
If the motor cultivator has buried its cutters in the ground and stopped moving, it must be slightly lifted.
In addition to the standard plowing function, the Tarpan cultivator can be used to cover weeds or mix fertilizers. To do this, you need to install additional equipment. Experts recommend cultivating heavy clay soils with it, as it has a high torque, thanks to which the soil is easily and efficiently crushed. The depth of travel of the cutters is changed by moving the regulator in the bracket.
Before you start working with the Tarpan cultivator, you should carefully study the instruction manual.
Specifications:
- power - 40.5 and 4.41 kW (American engine only);
- gearbox – worm, single-stage;
- the working volume of the American Briggs and Stratton engine is 190 cm3, the Japanese Honda engine is 160 cm3;
- cutter diameter – 32 cm;
- fuel tank capacity – 1100 ml;
- required amount of oil - Briggs and Stratton - 600 ml, Honda - 550 ml;
- 1 speed (forward);
- plowing depth – 200 mm;
- width – 560 mm;
- emitted sound level – 81 dB;
- weight – 45 kg.
The working width depends on the number of cutters installed on the cultivator. Its indicator varies from 35 cm and can reach up to 1 m. With a loosening depth of 18 cm, this cultivator can cultivate 0.06 hectares in 1 hour. For 1 hour of operation, no more than 1100 ml of fuel is consumed.
Advantages and disadvantages
The positive aspects of the Tarpan motor cultivator include easy operation, as well as high-quality loosening of the soil. The steering wheel of the device can be turned so that during processing you do not have to walk on already plowed ground. The maximum tilt angle during operation, according to the instructions for the Tarpan cultivator, is 15°. The main disadvantage is the lack of reverse gear. If necessary, you have to pull it manually, as a result of which the cutter begins to drag the earth with it. Therefore, it is recommended to use it in straight areas where there is not a large number of plantings.
Optional equipment
To expand the capabilities of the Tarpan cultivator, attachments are purchased separately. The following implements can be connected to it:
- The hiller, consisting of a frame and dumps, is used for hilling vegetable crops, as well as creating furrows and cutting beds (should only be used in conjunction with weed beds to create the necessary traction force).
- Weeders are a hub with lugs and knives attached to it. Used for loosening and weeding.
- Protective discs – thanks to them, the plants will not be damaged or covered with soil during row-spacing treatment. Installed on hubs.
- Lawn mower - mounted instead of the entire executive unit. Used for cutting lawn grass. There is also a version of the mower that is used for working in hard-to-reach areas, such as fences or curbs.
- A transport device consisting of wheels with a diameter of 19 cm. Used to move the cultivator around the treated area.
- The plow is also mounted instead of the executive unit. Thanks to it, you can loosen virgin soil or prepare it for winter.
The price of a Tarpan cultivator depends on the engine installed on it. Devices with a Japanese engine are more expensive than an American one. The most budget-friendly is Champion, as it is made in China.
Is it necessary to add oil to gasoline for a walk-behind tractor?
This important question interests the vast majority of beginning farmers. Before answering this question, it is necessary to study the technical characteristics of the walk-behind tractor available on the farm, and specifically the clock cycle of its engine. According to this feature, all internal combustion engines are divided into 2-stroke and 4-stroke.
The fuel mixture of fuel and engine oil should only be poured into 2-stroke engines. In the process of preparing it, you must strictly adhere to the proportion specified by the manufacturer in the walk-behind tractor operating manual supplied with the kit. When refueling walk-behind tractors powered by 4-stroke engines, this procedure is not necessary, since the operation of 4 strokes of such engines is supported by pure gasoline.
About oil change
After the first five hours of operation, most customers change the oil. This information is easy to find in reviews. Otherwise, the motor may jam due to debris that ends up inside the motor. It is best to leave it hot while work is being done.
The waste is drained into a separate container when the engine has been warmed up to a suitable temperature. The equipment is left in one position until the liquid is completely drained. After that the plug is tightened and new oil is poured in.
The best option is compounds that are originally intended for four-stroke engines. High-quality materials reduce friction between individual parts. The engine life is increased and it receives protection against corrosion.
Don't forget about changing the oil
How to fill oil into a walk-behind tractor gearbox
Before pouring new oil into the gearbox , you need to drain the old fluid. This is exactly how the oil is changed in the gearbox walk-behind tractor , a video of which can be found on the Internet, as well as other models of walk-behind tractors.
The algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- The walk-behind tractor needs to be installed on some hill so that the oil from the gearbox.
- There are two plugs on the gearbox - a drain plug, which is located at the bottom of the gearbox, and a plug that closes the oil filling hole. First, unscrew the filler plug, which is located on top of the tractor (at the gearbox).
- We take a sufficiently capacious container (an old bottle of transmission oil will do), and then place it under the gearbox drain plug.
- Carefully unscrew the drain plug, after which the oil will begin to flow into our container. After waiting until the oil has completely drained, screw the drain plug back in. Then tighten it with a spanner of a suitable diameter until it stops.
- Insert the funnel into the filling hole. Then we take the appropriate gear oil to fill the gearbox.
- Having filled the reducer to the optimal level, screw the plug back. This plug is equipped with a special dipstick, and its length is approximately 10 cm. After we have filled in the oil, we need to check its level. To do this, we tighten this plug-dipstick, after which we unscrew it again and check it.
- If the oil is at the tip of this dipstick, then there is no need to add any more.
As a rule, the oil change procedure must be performed every 100 hours of operation of the walk-behind tractor. In some cases, this procedure must be performed every 50 hours.
In other words, the frequency of oil changes depends on the model of the walk-behind tractor, so all the necessary information is in the accompanying documentation for the walk-behind tractor.
Transmission oils for filling into gasoline and diesel walk-behind tractors
As for the gearbox, transmission oils must be used to fill it. For example, a good choice would be semi-synthetic oil ZIC 10W40, intended for gasoline and diesel walk-behind tractors. API indicator – SM/CF, ACEA – A3/B3, A3/B4, C3.
Sold, as a rule, in 4-liter containers,
Another decent oil is Super T-3 85W-90 from Gazpromneft. Its technical data will be as follows:
- API indicator – GL-5;
- viscosity degree – 85W90;
- temperature indicator of loss of fluidity –.280C;
- flash point – 2170C;
- package length – 270 mm;
- packaging width – 130 mm;
- packaging height – 240 mm.
This gear oil is also supplied in 4 liter containers,
This is not the entire list of oils that can be poured into the gearbox of a walk-behind tractor . In principle, anyone who has become familiar with the basic parameters of the oil can independently determine what is needed for their walk-behind tractor.
Periodically changing the oil in the gearbox is extremely important, not only because it is recommended by the manufacturer, but also for a number of other reasons. In particular, during the operation of the walk-behind tractor, foreign metal particles are formed in the oil located in the gearbox.
They arise from friction and contact between the components of the walk-behind tractor, which gradually crumble, and all this metal chips end up in the oil . Thus, the oil begins to thicken, which leads to unstable operation of the walk-behind tractor , and subsequently to failure of the gearbox.
That is why timely changing the oil in the gearbox is a necessary preventive measure to avoid repairs in the future.
Indeed, it is much more logical to spend an amount of up to one thousand rubles on the purchase of gear oil than to spend much more money on expensive repairs or a complete replacement of the gearbox.
Homemade trailers for walk-behind tractors, which you can make yourself, are very popular.

Tarpan device
Tarpan cultivators are equipped with four-stroke carburetor engines Champion, Honda or Zongshen with a capacity of 5.5 liters. With. As well as the American “Briggs and Stratton” with a power of 6 hp. With. Gasoline with an octane rating of at least 85 is used as fuel.
The Tarpan petrol cultivator is designed for work in dachas, orchards and vegetable gardens.
Specifications:
- power - 40.5 and 4.41 kW (American engine only);
- gearbox – worm, single-stage;
- the working volume of the American Briggs and Stratton engine is 190 cm 3, the Japanese Honda engine is 160 cm 3;
- cutter diameter – 32 cm;

The main drawback is the lack of reverse gear. If necessary, you have to pull it manually, as a result of which the cutter begins to drag the earth with it. Therefore, it is recommended to use it in straight areas where there is not a large number of plantings.
What kind of oil to pour into a walk-behind tractor
As a rule, in the instructions for motorcycle equipment, the manufacturer indicates which brand of engine oil and in what volume is best to use. If there are no such recommendations, the product is selected according to the following characteristics:
The SAE parameter indicates the viscosity class of the substance and consists of an alphanumeric abbreviation, where the letter “W” indicates the possibility of use at low temperatures. The number in front of it indicates the viscosity at negative thermometer values, and the numbers after the “dash” indicate at positive values. These indicators characterize how easily the liquid will be pumped through the system and how quickly it will reach the surfaces of the rubbing parts, preventing them from dry friction.
The API parameter divides the lubricant according to its performance properties into categories C and S. Category C includes products intended for four-stroke air-cooled diesel engines, and category S for gasoline engines. Therefore, when choosing a fluid, you should definitely pay attention to this marking, since it has a different composition for diesel and carburetor engines.
The ACEA rating classifies an oil based on its HT (High Temperature Viscosity)/HS (Shear Rate) rating, which indicates how energy efficient the lubricant is. The higher this value, the better it protects engine components from wear. It is recommended to pour a substance with a high mPas indicator into a tractor, mini-tractor, as well as heavy Neva walk-behind tractors designed for heavy loads.
Below are the types of machine lubricants that, according to their characteristics, are the most optimal for a cultivator or walk-behind tractor. Of course, they can be used if there are no special recommendations from the equipment manufacturer and in accordance with the S and C markings. So, these are the oils:
- 5w30, 5w40 - all-season, which can be poured into motorcycles at an ambient temperature of at least 25 o C;
- 10w30, 10w40 – having anti-corrosion properties;
- 15w40, 20w40 - intended for pouring into the engine at a temperature of 45 o C and above.
- 0w30, 0w40 – created for winter use;
- MIL-L - designed for military vehicles and can be used on walk-behind tractors with diesel (code 2104) and carburetor (code 46152) engines.
Lubricant with double markings (SG/CD, SF/CC) can be poured into any engines, since it is universal and equally suitable for both diesel and engines (for example, like a Texas motor cultivator) operating on gasoline. Among the variety of lubricant products, the most popular are products produced under the brands Mobil, Castrol, ZIC, Shell Helix. To improve the action and improve the quality, additives are added to it - Oil Additiv, BIZOL, Cera Tec and others. They can be used at ambient temperatures from 25 °C to 25 °C.
Briggs Stratton
To operate these popular American engines, which are equipped with Neva MB-1, MB-2 walk-behind tractors and other popular units, you should use BriggsStratton 10W-30 branded semi-synthetic motor oil. Such engines consume a large amount of engine oil, so during their operation it is very important to regularly check the presence and volume of lubricant.
Service Features and Operating Instructions
The instruction manual is the main document of the cultivator, which contains a description of the design, as well as rules for operation, maintenance, storage and transportation. Compliance with the rules will help the owner increase the service life of the equipment and ensure safe working conditions.
First launch and run-in
After assembly, the new cultivator undergoes a conservation procedure necessary to protect the mechanisms from corrosion. Before the first start, the owner must unscrew the spark plug, wash it with gasoline, and also rotate the crankshaft 10-15 revolutions to remove preservative lubricant.
In most cases, engines are supplied without engine oil. It should be remembered that malfunctions caused by dry operation of the motor are not covered by warranty. The oil must be selected based on the ambient temperature and the recommendations of the engine manufacturer.
During the first 12 hours of operation, the cultivator is run in - the friction pairs of all moving units are run in. During the break-in process, it is not recommended to use the cultivator at full power.
Upon completion of the break-in, it is necessary to replace the engine oil, which contains chips and other by-products of running in the cultivator components.
Changing the oil in the gearbox
According to the requirements of the operating manual, after the first 5 hours of operation it is necessary to change the oil in the gearbox. When selecting a lubricant, you must follow the requirements of the operating manual.
Most gearbox models are designed for oils with API GL-4 or GL-5 approval. Using the wrong lubricant, for example TAD-17 or NIGROL, can quickly damage the gearbox.
Replacing oil seals
During operation, under the influence of external factors, mechanical damage to the gearbox seals may occur, which leads to oil leaks from the mechanism. If the cultivator is still under warranty, we recommend contacting your nearest service center. An alternative option is to replace the seals yourself.
Before performing work, it is necessary to drain the oil from the gearbox. You should also note the spatial position of the shaft relative to the housing to eliminate the possibility of incorrect assembly.
Possible faults
Malfunction | Probable Causes |
Difficulty starting the engine | · The speed controller settings are lost; · Fuel supply to the carburetor is interrupted; · Malfunction of the ignition system; · Carburetor clogged. |
The engine gets very hot | · The air filter is clogged; · The cooling system is clogged. |
The engine cannot reach maximum speed | · The air filter is clogged; |

If you do not have experience in repairing or servicing cultivators, we do not recommend troubleshooting them yourself. Unqualified intervention can aggravate the situation.
How to choose oil for a walk-behind tractor
The type of fluid used depends on the viscosity class and operational category. These are winter, summer and all-season oils. The degree of density depends on temperature conditions, operating mode of the equipment, and features of its design. The most common are synthetic and semi-synthetic petroleum products, which are excellent for the efficient operation of internal combustion engines in walk-behind tractors.
The operational category determines the quality of the lubricant. To simplify the selection of engine oil for internal combustion engines, classification systems have been created for any fuel; the most common are API, ACEA, ILSAC.
#OIL CHANGE OF #MOTORCULTIVATOR #TARPAN, IN THE GEARBOX AND ENGINE
In a uniform system for all, two series of viscosity classes are indicated: winter with the letter (W) and summer without a letter assignment, as well as their combinations to designate all-season oil. If the lubricating fluid is low-viscosity, this is an option for cold seasons; high-viscosity is created for the warm season.
Universal all-season compounds are more widespread because they are used in any weather, these are 5W-30, 10W-40. To understand what kind of oil to pour into a walk-behind tractor, you need to focus on the classification table for types of petroleum products.
Transmission oil for walk-behind tractor
It is not engine oil that is poured into the gearbox, but special transmission oil. For different models of walk-behind tractors, there are correspondingly different recommendations. For example, types of oils such as TAD-17I, TAP-15V are suitable for Neva MB-1 walk-behind tractors. For the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor, GOSTs recommend TEP-15, TM-5, SAE90 API GI-2, etc. oils. For Zubr and Centaur walk-behind tractors, TAP-15 oil is recommended.
Changing the oil in the gearbox
To lubricate the gearbox, any gear oil , for example, TAD-17, TAP-15V or with other markings according to GOST 23652-79. Before filling it, check for the presence of old fluid. If necessary, it must be changed after first checking the volume of the tank. Checking in walk-behind tractor models such as Neva is carried out as follows:
- The equipment is placed on a horizontal surface so that there is access to the gearbox, and the equipment itself is in an inclined position (this will make it more convenient to pour the product).
- Insert a probe into the hole on the gearbox (this can be a metal rod 65-70 cm long, bent into an arc) and use it to measure the level of presence of the substance.
If the dipstick immersed in the gearbox is 30 cm deep in the liquid, then there is no need to fill it additionally. If the results are different, the lubricant should be poured into the gearbox to the required level. You will need to pour at least 2 liters of lubricant into a completely dry gearbox.

Gear oil for walk-behind tractor - choosing a suitable product for lubricating the gearbox
To lubricate the gearbox included in the walk-behind tractor design, special gear oil should be used. It must meet a number of important criteria, the main one of which is the degree of viscosity of the material. The gear oil must be viscous enough to cover all the rubbing parts of the mechanism with a thin film. At the same time, in no case should you use a composition that is too thick, since such a product will not be able to penetrate inside all the spare parts present in the gearbox.

Fuel consumption by motor cultivator depending on loads
Despite the not very high power of the unit and its modifications, it consumes a significant amount of fuel.
In the process of plowing the soil, the model requires approximately 1.5 liters/hour. This figure may vary depending on the task being performed. Thus, when cultivating hard soils with a plow, the cultivator consumes at least 1.8 liters per hour of operation. When clearing snow, it “eats” at least 2 liters. fuel
However, it is important to take into account that a certain amount of fuel is lost even when the engine warms up.
When hilling potatoes, the cultivator requires, on average, 1.6 liters. fuel, and when working with a rake - about 1.5 l./h. work.
Light class cultivators - the best models
Among many summer residents, lightweight models are very popular. It’s not surprising - they are light and quite compact, and when disassembled they can easily fit in a car. In addition, their cost is quite low, which is an important parameter for those who are not going to work a lot with cultivators, only cultivating a not too large area a couple of times a year. Yes, the power is not too high. But it is quite sufficient to easily cultivate several acres of land.
