Oil for the rear axle of a UAZ, how much to fill, which one to choose?

Cars from the Ulyanovsk plant are equipped with a drive on both axles, which increases the load on the transmission units. To reduce noise during operation and to reduce wear, liquid transmission lubricant is filled into the gear housings. The reliability and safety of vehicle operation depends on the regularity of checking the level and changing the oil in UAZ Patriot axles.

Engine oil.

The UAZ Patriot engine has a rather impressive volume of 4.5 liters.
This is quite understandable, since the car has a large mass and, being an SUV, it must have great power. But at the same time, when changing the oil in a car, it should be taken into account that this engine will require at least 7 liters. At the same time, it is not recommended to make a partial replacement, since a fairly large amount of metal shavings, soot or spent additives may remain in the system. It is best to purchase 2 large cans and, if necessary, have a small reserve for topping up. Replacement should occur at least 10 thousand kilometers or once a year, whichever comes first. It is recommended to use synthetic oil. It is more expensive, but in all its parameters it is much better than mineral. The type of oil is determined primarily depending on the climate where the car will be operated. Basically, for the CIS countries, where the temperature in winter can drop to -40 and in summer it is very hot, a universal composition 0w-40 is suitable. As an alternative, you can use semi-synthetic compounds:

These compositions are quite common at the moment, but it is better to give preference to trusted manufacturers: Castrol, Shell Helix, ESSO, Mobil, Lukoil, Consol.

All filling capacities of the Patriot SUV

Everyone knows that filling tanks are units that require the presence of working fluid. By the way, the UAZ Patriot is equipped with two refueling tanks at once, and this allows the SUV to fill almost 2 times more fuel, almost up to 80 liters. Not all cars in this class can boast the same gas tank design.

The refueling volumes in the SUV we are considering are determined by the following parts and mechanisms:

  • Auto clutch system;
  • Transmission;
  • Power unit lubrication system;
  • Transfer case;
  • Gasoline tanks;
  • Power steering mechanism system;
  • Window washer pump reservoir;
  • Engine cooling system 409;
  • Brake system;
  • Carters of 2 bridges.

Transmission oil.

These units contain a large number of rotating parts. And as in the case of the engine, it is no less important to ensure their lubrication. In this case, the viscosity parameters will be different. It is recommended to use SAE 85W-90 fluid. Some Patriot owners fill their axles with 75W-90. But it should be remembered that this can only be done if the car is used mainly in warm climates. In all other cases, it will thicken greatly, and as a result, a strong hum will appear while driving.

The required volume will vary depending on the type of bridge:

  • Spicer2 – 1.55 liters;
  • Civil - 1.2 liters;
  • Military type - 1.0 liters.

As a rule, the same liquid is poured into the front and rear axles, the total volume will be no more than 3 liters.

What fluids are needed for Patriot to work?

The domestic UAZ Patriot, which has a 409 engine, and a number of other cars that are similar in their mechanisms and design, are required to have the above-mentioned refueling tanks, which are presented in the form of tanks made of plastic and located in various units. It is in such devices that different working fluids are located. Check out the list of working fluids present in the UAZ Patriot:

  • Transmission and engine oils are filled into the power unit, transfer case, as well as gearboxes and axles.
  • Antifreeze or antifreeze is required for heating the interior and cooling the engine;
  • Depending on the design of the power plant, diesel fuel or gasoline.
  • Liquid intended for glass washers, poured into the rear and windshield washer reservoirs.
  • Brake fluid is poured into the clutch system, plus into the brake mechanism.

Next, we will present the digital values according to which it is necessary to fill certain working fluids into the corresponding mechanisms and units.

Transmission oil

It is recommended to replace the box every 30 thousand kilometers. It is better to give preference to synthetic oil; manufacturers can be divided into 2 categories:

  • High quality: Mobil 1, Schell, Castrol, Zic. It should be borne in mind that there are also a large number of fakes on the market.
  • Average quality: Mannol, Lukoil, Edge, Elf and Motul and others.

The viscosity parameters should be the same as for bridges - 75W-90 or 85W-90.

Transmission oils are designed to lubricate parts of manual transmissions, transfer cases and drive axles. They create a strong lubricating film at the contact points of the parts of these units, which can withstand heavy loads.

Gear oils are defined and differentiated by classifications that are widely accepted today: SAE J306 for viscosity, such as 80W, 90, 75W-85 or 80W-90, and API, which contains a comprehensive assessment of gear oils for performance properties, such as GL-4 or GL-5 . In addition, along with the API specification, indicators according to the American military specification, denoted by the MIL index, may sometimes be used. For example MIL-L-2105A or MIL-L-2105B.

Features of the classification of transmission oils according to SAE and API.

SAE viscosity grades with the letter W refer to seasonal oils for the cold season, for example 75W or 80W. Accordingly, without W - to oils for warm summer time, for example 90 or 140. However, since the resource of transmission oils is quite long, using seasonal oils in everyday use, changing them in units every six months, is very inconvenient and not economically profitable.

For these reasons, so-called thickened or all-season transmission oils have become more widespread. They combine the properties of two types of oil at once - summer and winter, which is reflected in their marking, which already consists of two numbers separated by the letter W, for example 75W-90 or 85W-140.

The API classification currently contains five categories - GL-1, GL-2, GL-3, GL-4 and GL-5, which show the applicability and quality level of gear oils. For example, in category GL-5 - oil contains extreme pressure, anti-wear and other additives, used for hypoid and other types of gears in gearboxes and drive axles of cars.

Transmission oils for the UAZ Hunter and UAZ Patriot gearboxes.

Several types of synchronized gearboxes can be installed on UAZ Hunter cars and all models based on it: a four-speed Russian-made, a five-speed ADS made in China or a five-speed DYMOS made in Korea. On the UAZ Patriot and all models based on it, only a Korean-made five-speed DYMOS gearbox is installed.

The plant recommends filling the four-speed gearbox with SAE 75W-90 gear oil according to API GL-3. The Chinese-made five-speed ADS gearbox and the Korean-made five-speed DYMOS gearbox are SAE 75W-85, API GL-4.

Transmission oils for the mechanical transfer case of UAZ Hunter and UAZ Patriot.

When equipping a vehicle with a four-speed or five-speed ADS gearbox, the plant recommends filling the mechanical transfer case produced by UAZ OJSC with the same transmission oil as the box.

This is quite justified, since it is due to the fact that during operation, partial flow of oil from the gearbox to the transfer case is possible. The oil level in the gearbox may drop by 8 mm. relative to the lower edge of the filler hole and will accordingly rise in the transfer case. According to the plant, in this case it is not necessary to equalize the oil levels in these units.

Why is an oil change necessary?

The UAZ Patriot car has a 4x4 wheel arrangement. When driving, torque from the power unit to the wheel mechanisms is transmitted through the axles. The rear axle is constantly engaged, the front axle is connected if necessary.

The bridges are equipped with gearboxes that reduce torque. When driving a car, the gears of the gearboxes constantly rotate and are subjected to high loads.

Lubrication in the bridge mechanism performs two functions:

  1. Reducing friction between rotating parts. This extends the service life of components;
  2. Cooling. Rotating parts with good sliding heat up less. Thanks to this, the high-strength metal from which the components are made does not lose its properties.

Which oil to choose for replacement

During operation of the UAZ Patriot, the parts of the front and rear axles wear out. Chips that appear during wear enter the lubricant. This leads to deterioration in the quality of the lubricant. Chips getting into rotating mechanisms can cause them to jam. It is necessary to change the oil regularly.

ATTENTION: When driving aggressively, it is necessary to change the lubricant in the axles more often than stated in the operating manual.

Some car owners are wondering what kind of oil to pour into UAZ Patriot axles? The manufacturer recommends using gear oil with a viscosity of 75W/90. This lubricant will increase the service life of parts.

Let's sum it up

UAZ Patriot transmission units are designed to operate in aggressive operating conditions, and therefore are characterized by increased endurance. Despite this, their operational period directly depends on the owner’s compliance with the regulations for their maintenance. Irregular oil changes or completely ignoring them can cause vehicle failure, reducing its handling, maneuverability and safety on the road.

It is not difficult to carry out routine maintenance of axles, transfer cases and gearboxes at home, but it is advisable to replace the transmission oil in all components, which, on the one hand, will allow you not to get confused about the timing of re-replacement, and on the other hand, will extend the life of the car. And, most importantly, do not skimp on the quality of the lubricant; the operational period of components, assemblies and the vehicle as a whole depends on this.

When to change the oil

According to the recommendation of the plant, new oil is poured into the UAZ Patriot axles every 40 thousand mileage. The first replacement is carried out after passing 15 - 20 thousand kilometers. This is due to the fact that the rotating parts are not ground in. A large amount of chips gets into the lubricant. This leads to a deterioration in its quality. HELP: Wear of oil seals and seals can lead to oil leakage or water entering the axle when driving off-road.

Razdatka

The factory recommends changing the oil in the transfer case every 20,000 km. The volume of the transfer case is approximately 1 liter. In general, the process is very similar to changing the oil in axles. We also unscrew both caps and pour the oil into a previously prepared container. Pour oil using a syringe and tighten the filler hole. Ready. It is recommended to fill all-season -SAE 75W/90 according to API GL-3

By the way, we recommend installing the “Universal” kit for removing breathers under the hood of the Patriot. Standard valves very often become sour and do not release pressure. Because of this, oil is squeezed out through the seals. Our store has time-tested kits and even with an additional output for patriots with automatic transmission.

Changing the oil in the front axle of the UAZ Patriot

According to the manufacturer's recommendation, it is necessary to replace the heated lubricant. To do this you need to drive 4–6 kilometers. Warm grease has a thinner consistency and flows out of the drain hole faster. At the end of the movement, the lubricant is replaced as follows:

  • Install the UAZ Patriot on a pit, lift or overpass. The site must be level, without a side slope;
  • Immobilize the vehicle. To do this, shoes are installed under the wheels;
  • Prepare a container for collecting waste material. The container volume must be at least 2 liters. To facilitate the process, it is necessary to select a container with a large neck;
  • Unscrew the filler plug. This is necessary to supply air to the bridge cavity. If there is insufficient air in the cavity, a vacuum is formed. The plug is located below the middle of the crankcase;

  • Unscrew the drain plug. It is located at the bottom of the crankcase. The plug is unscrewed counterclockwise. To open, a 12 mm hexagon is required;
  • Clean the plugs from oil accumulations, dirt and metal shavings;
  • Screw in the drain plug until it stops;
  • Fill with new lubricant. The filler neck is located at the top. You need to fill in the lubricant using a specialized syringe;
  • Screw the filler cap until it stops.

INTERESTING: To improve sealing, some owners apply a layer of heat-resistant sealant to the drain plug.

DIY replacement instructions

The list of tools used for topping up is supplemented with a container for collecting waste liquid. Before starting work, the machine is brought into the inspection hole. Before changing the oil, warm up the car, using it for its intended purpose for at least 15 minutes. This promotes liquefaction and easy removal of waste. The replacement is done like this:

  1. Place a container under the bottom to drain used oil from the transfer case. Using a wrench, unscrew the plug located in the lower part of the crankcase. Unscrewing the fill valve speeds up the waste removal process.
  2. Wait for the liquid to drain and screw in the drain plug. Before installation, the part is cleaned of dirt.
  3. Lubricant is injected using a syringe. Filling oil with a watering can will not work. A technical syringe copes with this task better.
  4. Once the desired level is reached, the filling is stopped. The plug is returned to its place.

The work is completed by turning on the engine, which promotes uniform distribution of lubricant.

Changing the oil in the rear axle of the UAZ Patriot

The procedure for changing the lubricant for the rear axle differs only in the amount of fluid poured. To replace:

  1. Place the car on the pit;
  2. Clean the drain and filler plugs with a wire brush;
  3. Using a 12 mm hexagon, unscrew the filler plug;
  4. Open the drain hole, having previously placed a container underneath to collect the waste liquid;
  5. Drain the used oil;
  6. Clean the internal surfaces of the plugs from metal shavings. A rag is used for this;
  7. Close the drain hole with a plug;
  8. Using a specialized device, pour new lubricant into the crankcase;
  9. Close the filler hole with a plug.

IMPORTANT: After completing the procedure, you must wipe off the grease from the outside of the crankcase. A dry surface will allow you to detect leaks in time during vehicle operation.

After the process, it is necessary to check the functionality of the breathers.

When heated, the liquid in the crankcase expands, displacing the air mass. A malfunction of the breather can lead to failure of oil seals or seals.

Procedure

The procedure for replacing lubricant in Patriot transmission units is not particularly complicated, however, it requires patience and attentiveness from the performer. To complete the work in full, you will need to drain the used fluid from each of the system components one by one, replacing it with new lubricant. For this purpose, it is first necessary to prepare new oil in a volume sufficient for replacement, a set of car keys, containers for used fluid, as well as work clothes.

The task of replacing fluid in transmission units is carried out from the bottom of the car. In service centers, special lifts are used to ensure unhindered access to drain openings; at home, it will be enough to drive the vehicle onto a pit or overpass.

Before performing the operation, it is important to drive an SUV for about ten kilometers so that the lubricant in the system warms up to operating temperature. Under the influence of temperatures, it will become liquid and will merge faster and better from the aggregates.

Further measures are carried out in accordance with the work schedule for each transmission unit.

Changing the oil in axles

The procedures for changing the oil in UAZ Patriot axles do not differ in execution technology, so let’s look at the procedure for implementing the tasks using the rear axle as an example. In practice, you can successfully perform a replacement by following simple instructions from the car manufacturer:

  1. Locate the drain and fill caps, which are located on the rear axle housing. First, you need to clean the surfaces adjacent to the openings with a metal brush from dirt to avoid it getting into the system.
  2. Next, unscrew the filler plug to relieve pressure, after which you can unscrew the cover of the drainage hole, having previously placed a waste container under it.
  3. While the oil is draining, the plugs must be thoroughly cleaned of metal shavings that may accumulate on the inside of the caps during operation of the machine. After the oil has drained, the oil drain plug is installed in place and clamped with the recommended force.
  4. Using a technical syringe, lubricant is poured into the oil filler opening until it begins to flow out of the hole. This procedure will require about 1.3 liters of oil, depending on the quality of the waste drain.
  5. Don't forget to tighten the filler cap.

The oil change in the front axle of a UAZ Patriot is carried out in a similar way, with the only difference being that the oil filler and drain plugs must be looked for on the front axle housing. The front axle housing will contain no more than 1.4 liters of lubricant. At this point, the procedure for replacing the lubricant in UAZ Patriot axles can be considered successfully completed. Then you can move on to changing the oil in the transfer case and gearbox.

Changing the lubricant in the transfer case

The methodology for changing the oil in the transfer case of a UAZ Patriot is practically no different from the procedure for changing transmission fluid in axles. To perform the procedure, you will need to find the drain and filler holes, clean the surfaces one by one from dirt accumulations and unscrew the filler plug. Then the waste is removed into the prepared container through the drain opening. Once the liquid has drained, you need to tighten the drain plug and fill the oil through the filling opening using a technical syringe to the limit, which will be a little more than two and a half liters in volume.

Along with changing the oil in the axles and transfer case, it is recommended to change the lubricant in the gearbox, the technology of which is the same as in previous situations. When pouring new oil into the gearbox, the level should be monitored using a special dipstick with which the car is equipped. After filling and running in the car, you will need to recheck the level in the gearbox; you may need to top up the oil to normal.

After replacing the lubricant in all transmission components, you need to start the car and drive it for several kilometers, after which you drive it onto the overpass again and check all the joints for fluid leaks, and if necessary, tighten the plugs more tightly.

Amount of liquid to be filled

When pouring oil into the axles of a UAZ Patriot, you need to know the crankcase volume. The liquid is poured to the bottom edge of the filler neck. The UAZ manufacturer indicates in the operating manual the volumes of the front and rear axles. They are:

  • For the rear axle – 1300 ml;
  • More fluid is placed in the front axle. Its volume is 1400 ml.

REFERENCE: Some owners of UAZ Patriot cars note that real figures exceed the volumes specified by the manufacturer.

Patriot SUV refueling volumes

For UAZ Patriot, which has a 409 engine, refueling volumes have the following values:

  • 5l. fluid is required to fill the windshield washer reservoir.
  • Fuel tanks: the tank on the right and the tank on the right have the same volume, equal to 36 liters, this is according to the manufacturer, however, as practice shows, a little more fuel can be filled into both tanks.
  • Shock absorbers only need to pour 0.32l. liquids, but you should remember about the devices used in the suspension design.
  • Engine lubrication is required in a volume of 7 liters, and for the UAZ Patriot 31631 model the volume of lubricant is 4.2 liters.
  • The brake mechanism needs 0.6l. working fluid.
  • For a radiator with horizontal pipes, 14 liters will be required. liquids, and for heating the interior and cooling system of the power unit - 12 l.
  • The clutch drive needs 0.18l. liquids.
  • A manual transmission will require 2.5 liters.
  • For the steering mechanism we measure - 0.25l.
  • 0.8 l is poured into the transfer case.
  • Power steering consumes 1.1l. working fluid, for the UAZ Patriot 31631 model you will need 1.3 l.
  • As for the rear and front axles, their filling tanks require different amounts of fluid. The front axle requires 1.5 liters of oil, and the rear axle requires 1.4 liters of oil. As practice shows, it is necessary to fill slightly more than 1.4 liters into the rear axle housing. oil so that all the working elements inside are completely covered in lubricant.

Equipment and materials

To change the oil in the axles of a UAZ vehicle, the following equipment and materials are required:

  1. Wire brush. Necessary for cleaning plugs from dust, dirt and oil deposits;
  2. Container for collecting liquid. The container must be of sufficient volume with a wide neck. A cut plastic canister or other container will do;
  3. Hexagon. A tool designed to open plugs. Supplied by the manufacturer with the vehicle;
  4. Rags. Used to clean the inside of corks. Use a rag to wipe away oil spills after the procedure;
  5. Transmission lubricant. Oil of the required viscosity is used;
  6. A specialized syringe or other device designed to inject liquid;
  7. Lamp or lantern. Used to illuminate the workplace.

  • normal oil pressure at speed is 2-5 kg/cm³.

Safety precautions when carrying out work independently

When performing the procedure, you must follow safety rules. To prevent spontaneous movement of the car, anti-roll devices are installed under the wheels.

Before work, you need to prepare your work clothes:

  • Glasses. It is necessary to work in safety glasses. They prevent transmission lube and dirt from getting into your eyes;
  • Gloves. When the plug is unscrewed, the liquid pouring out of the crankcase gets on your hands. It is necessary to wear long rubberized gloves;

The fluid drained from the crankcase is at a high temperature. To avoid burns when draining the oil, a person should be kept at a distance from the drain hole. The container for collecting waste fluid should be kept as close to the crankcase as possible. When unscrewing the plug, you must hold it firmly. Failure to follow this rule may result in the plug falling into the container containing the waste liquid.

From the above it follows that changing the oil in the axles of a Patriot car is a procedure that can be performed by a person with minimal technical knowledge. Replacement is carried out at intervals specified by the manufacturer.

Oil for axles on UAZ Patriot

The UAZ Patriot SUV needs periodic oil changes not only for the engine, gearbox and transfer case, but also for such important units as axles. UAZ Patriot is an all-wheel drive vehicle, but the rear axle is the permanently functioning axle. The front one comes into play if it is necessary to overcome dangerous off-road areas. We will not pay attention to the question of what the structure of SUV axles is, but will consider the following questions: what kind of oil is best to choose for pouring into axles, when such a replacement needs to be carried out and how this process is carried out.

Features of transmission, chassis and control systems

The unique characteristics of the UAZ 469 are largely due to the successful design of the transmission. This vehicle system consists of a dry single-plate clutch, a gearbox, a transfer case, a rear drive axle, a front axle, and wheel drives for an army modification of an SUV.

In general, the control systems of the UAZ 469 are reliable and durable.

The gearbox on every car is an important component of any vehicle, so its serviceability is an important factor. The SUV also has a gearbox, thanks to which it is possible to move at different speeds. In addition to the main parts, the gearbox is filled with oil, which requires periodic replacement. In this material we will pay attention to the process of changing the oil in the gearbox on a UAZ Patriot. How the oil is changed, when it is needed and what determines this period.

Purpose of the oil

UAZ Patriot is not just a car, but an SUV, in which each mechanism consists of many parts. Axles or a gearbox on an SUV are some kind of containers with oil in which the working elements, that is, gears, operate. Often these devices have two gears, which, due to friction with each other, transmit torque from the transfer case to the wheels.

During the operation of the gears, they are worn out, resulting in the formation of chips or small particles of metal in the containers, that is, inside the bridge. These particles must be removed from these devices so that they do not cause jamming of rotating parts, which will entail not the most pleasant consequences.

Thus, we found out that the lubricating fluid inside the bridge also performs a cleaning function. But this is not the only function of the lubricating fluid in this device. Considerable importance is also given to the process of removing heat from parts that heat up as a result of friction. If during friction the metal reaches a critical temperature value, then it can either lose its original properties or crumble. Therefore, removing heat from heating parts in axles is an important function of the lubricating fluid on the UAZ Patriot SUV.

But even this does not end the functions of the lubricating fluid. Equally important is the direct lubrication of rubbing parts - bearings, gears, shafts that make up the gearbox. Thus, the oil smoothes out the friction process of steel parts, as a result of which the service life of such elements increases tens of times. If there were no oil in the design of the axles of the UAZ Patriot SUV, then every creak of a part would be heard while this steel horse was moving. At the same time, a car without lubricants in the main units would not be able to cover even a few kilometers. Therefore, in this article we will look at what kind of oil needs to be poured into the gearboxes of a UAZ Patriot SUV and how to do it correctly.

Lubricant selection

The designers of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant recommend pouring an all-season type of oil with a viscosity grade of SAE 75W/90 according to API GL-5 into the axles of the UAZ Patriot SUV. But what the manufacturer recommends does not mean that you need to use only these types. You need to take this into account, and you can fill in anything, the main thing is that the car drives after that. This is all, of course, a lyrical digression, but it is necessary to find out which oil is best to pour into the Patriot gearbox, and which will be the best and optimal for any buyer.

So, there are three types of lubricants: synthetics, semi-synthetics and mineral water. More information about these fluids can be found in the material on choosing gearbox oil. It should only be noted that the first option is the most expensive, but the most effective. It is not recommended to use it only in devices with high output. After all, the viscosity of the liquid is such that a slight violation of the seal leads to a leak. As a result, you will need to constantly monitor the level in the system and top up.

Mineral oil is the cheapest option and is often used in cars with high mileage, since the viscosity of this material is low and even significant damage to seals or oil seals will not lead to significant losses of oil from the system.

The best of all options is the third type of product - semi-synthetics. Semi-synthetics are affordable for all motorists and are an excellent solution for lubricating a unit such as axles. There are a lot of lubricant manufacturers, so choosing the optimal product is an important feature. So, these units can be filled with oils from the following manufacturers:

  • Castrol Syntrax Long Life 75W90;
  • GT Hypoid Synt 75W90;
  • Zic GF Top 75W-85.

The best option is to fill the axles of an SUV with synthetic oil. But it should be taken into account that the serviceability of all seals must be at a high level. Otherwise, the poured expensive oil will spill onto the asphalt and then the gears will jam. Controlling the lubricating fluid in axles is quite problematic, since the units do not have a special level to check the fluid volume. If you do not notice leaks in time, you can pay serious expenses for bridge repairs.

When is the replacement carried out?

Having found out which oil is best to pour into the axles of an SUV, you should figure out when it is necessary to begin the replacement process. The manufacturer recommends replacing lubricant in axles every 40 thousand kilometers. Changing the oil in UAZ Patriot axles is not particularly difficult, so after such runs, you can pay attention to good types of oils. But here the question arises: what volume does the front and rear gearbox have and how much fluid is needed to fill them? The volume of the rear axle of the UAZ Patriot SUV is 1.3 liters. The volume of the front axle is slightly larger and is 1.4 liters.

On a new car, it is recommended to change the oil after 10-15 thousand kilometers, because you never know what the manufacturer could have filled the axles with. Therefore, we fill the gearbox with oil for the first time after 15-20 thousand km, and the next time after 40,000 km.

Replacement in the front axle

In conclusion, it remains to find out what the process of replacing lubricant on the rear and front axles is. So let's start with the front:

  1. We install the car on the inspection hole and carry out the process of draining the waste. This only needs to be done when the system is preheated. To do this, you should drive the car for 15-20 minutes, and then start replacing the lubricant on both the front and rear axles.
  2. To unscrew the drain plug you will need a 12" hex wrench. With its help, the plug is unscrewed and the waste is drained into a previously prepared container. The photo below shows the location of the front axle drain plug.
  3. In order for the waste to drain faster, it is necessary to unscrew the filler plug, located slightly higher, above the drain.
  4. After draining the waste, you should screw in the drain plug, having previously cleaned it of dirt and dust.
  5. New oil is added using a technical or medical syringe. After this, screw in the plug and complete the replacement.

Information on the types of oil required

From synthetic gear oils:

ZIC GF TOP. This oil is one of the most popular today. The oil is ideal for many vehicle components, including the transfer case, when operating in regions with low temperatures, since it is resistant to fairly low temperatures. A separate feature of this lubricating fluid is that there are practically no fakes on the market now; at least you can purchase fake oil with an extremely low probability. This is explained by the fact that the original is sold in a canister, which is made using a special technology, which is what makes the difference. According to numerous reviews, this oil helps reduce noise in the transmission system.

  • Resistance to chemical processes (including oxidation and destruction of sealing materials);
  • The presence of antifriction properties;

From semi-synthetic oils:

LIQUI MOLY HYPOID-GETRIEBEOIL TDL 75W-90. A universal lubricating fluid manufactured by a well-known German manufacturer. In addition to versatility of use, this brand has excellent anti-friction properties, increased wear resistance and much more. In terms of price-quality ratio, this gear oil is one of the best in its segment.

Its main advantages are:

  • Universal application;
  • Availability of excellent anti-corrosion properties;
  • Reasonable price per canister.

From mineral oils:

LIQUI MOLY GETRIEBEOIL 85W-90

. This is a mineral lubricating fluid from a German manufacturer. It differs from most of its analogues in the highest quality of those components that are present in the oil. In addition, the liquid is supplemented with special additives, which, together with the first point, gives the product excellent properties, which in turn ensures reliable operation of the mechanical unit. Due to its resistance to a wide range of temperatures, this gear oil can be used all year round. At harsh temperatures, the oil does not thicken, which ensures effective lubrication of the rubbing elements. When using this oil, the seals of the manual transmission and transfer case will not be damaged, since it is resistant to chemical processes.

Its main advantages are:

  • High wear resistance;
  • High resistance to low temperature operating conditions;
  • Universal application.

TOTAL TRANSMISSION GEAR 8 75W-80

. In terms of versatility and availability, this transmission fluid is also very popular among owners of foreign and domestic passenger cars. The oil has a very good value for money. Unlike most other mineral oils, this product has extended drain intervals.

Its main advantages are:

  • Excellent value for money;
  • Optimal fluidity in any temperature conditions;
  • Optimal viscosity in any temperature conditions;
  • High resistance to low temperature operating conditions.

LUKOIL 80W90 TM-4

. The Russian company Lukoil is today the leader among domestic producers. This was facilitated not only by the very reasonable cost, but also by the fact that there are special additives that give the oil beneficial properties. It has a universal purpose, and therefore can be used not only in gearboxes, but also in transfer cases. It has excellent wear resistance, anti-oxidation and anti-corrosion properties.

Its main advantages are:

  • Reasonable price per canister;
  • The composition contains complex elements;
  • Good resistance to low temperature operating conditions.
  • Effective lubrication.

Good afternoon everyone. The topic of today's article is oil in the rear axle of a UAZ. I think you’ve already guessed from the title what the article is about, so there won’t be the usual brief review for our site.

Let's agree on the shore that there is no point in making a gradation based on cars, i.e. the bridge of the loaf, hunter and patriot is no different - SPICER is installed from the factory today. And the “collective farms” and “voyaki” bridges are much less demanding on oil than current bridges. Accordingly, there is no difference which UAZ and which bridge. Recommendations for choosing oil are valid for all UAZ vehicles of all years of manufacture.

Selection by oil type.

Classics of the genre - synthetics, semi-synthetics and mineral water. It would seem - pour whatever is more expensive and change it according to the instructions and you will be happy... but not everything is so simple...

The choice of oil for the rear axle, specifically in the case of a UAZ, is not obvious. The fact is that oil of the same viscosity characteristic varies greatly in price depending on the type. Mineral water Lukoil GL5 85W90 costs about 300 rubles per liter, synthetic mannol of similar viscosity already costs 800 rubles for the same “litrushka”.

Now why is it difficult to choose - if you often go to the forest (and how could it be otherwise with an UAZ), and constantly storm puddles and swamps, water will inevitably get into bridges through breathers. Water in oil is his guaranteed death... and operating the bridge on a cocktail of oil and water will not improve his health. Therefore, if you operate a UAZ only in the summer for trophy raids, it is cheaper to pour mineral water and change it at the first suspicion of water ingress!

In winter, synthetics definitely rule, due to greater temperature stability. A car running on synthetics does not need to be “rolled out”; it can drive almost as soon as the engine warms up and due to the viscosity of the oil in the transmission, it saves a lot of fuel! In fact, my gasoline consumption decreased from 18 to 17 liters after I changed the oil in the axles and gearbox to synthetic!

About semi-synthetics...

This oil should not be considered. The fact is that this is an ordinary mineral water with added additives, in fact it is the same mineral water, but more expensive... If you want to pay the labor of marketers, semi-synthetics are your choice, but for a car it makes no sense - in winter it thickens like mineral water, and in summer there is no difference...

We agreed - in the summer, if we constantly knead the dirt, use mineral water and change it more often, in the winter - synthetics. If we drive around the city all year round and use the UAZ as an ass-cart, it is better to completely switch to synthetics. There is no point in considering semi-synthetics.

Selection by viscosity.

There is often a recommendation to pour NIGROL into military bridges and collective farms. Nigrol is a residue (waste) from the direct distillation of oil mixed with asphalt tar!

So here are the UAZ drivers’ colleagues. Such oil has not existed in nature for 60 years, and what is now sold under the brand name nigrol is TEP-15, it cannot be called nigrol….

The design of the UAZ differential is not well thought out, and the gears have a high slip coefficient; therefore, pouring low-quality oil is unacceptable! On nigrol the bridge will howl very quickly, on TAda - depending on your luck!

The plant recommends filling the bridge with oil with a viscosity according to SAE, 85w-90

. The manufacturer is not important! Change the oil on time and do not come into contact with burnt (left) oil. Personally, I use 75w-90

this is it (yes it comes in gl4, gl5 and gl4/5, I pour the last 2 depending on what is available):

If the axle howls (yes, on a UAZ it happens that the axle makes noise louder than the gearbox and transfer case combined), it is permissible to increase the viscosity of the oil in the axle to 85w-140,

It was in this type of oil that the author of this article used Hunter for 2 years, i.e. the bridge howled, thick oil was poured in, and the UAZ was sold with this oil!

This is interesting: How can you clean spark plugs?
