Renault tractor category provides high levels of comfort!

Modern models of Renault tractor trucks have been known to drivers for many years as powerful and reliable heavy vehicles. The range of cars is constantly expanding, technical characteristics are rapidly improving. The company strives in every possible way to improve the comfort of drivers, as well as increase their overall performance during the movement process. The Renault truck tractor is the optimal combination of magnificence and the most modern technologies relevant in the global automotive industry.

Truck range

Renault cars of the tractor category are divided into several main groups. Among them, the Distribution generation and the Renault Premium Route fifth wheel are popular. The line includes trucks adapted for transporting goods within the city and along intercity highways. These cars are equipped with engines with power from 215 to 420 hp.

Renault truck range

The new truck is equipped with a comfortable cabin, and this indicator is constantly being improved. In modern models, diesel engines have been replaced with more powerful devices, the power of which can reach 440 hp. Newer models are equipped with modern automatic transmissions.

About the manufacturer

Renault was founded in 1894. The brand's first truck was released in 1910.

By 1923, the company's first tractor was developed and put into production. In 1931, Renault trucks began to run on diesel fuel. In the late 30s and early 40s, the company became the main supplier of heavy vehicles for the French army.

By 1978, through the merger of several companies, the modern holding Renault Véhicules Industriels was formed.

In 1990, the legendary Renault Magnum truck hit the roads, making the company one of the seven leading truck manufacturers.

After the release of Renault Premium in 1996, the Swedish company Volvo became interested in the manufacturer and bought a blocking stake in 2001. After the merger, the corporation became known as Renault Trucks.

On a note. The first Renault truck appeared in Russia in 1912. On the Internet you can find photographs from the run organized by the country's military ministry.

Main technical characteristics

Modern Renault transport tractors are equipped with engines that are unique in quality and power. They provide high lifting capacity of the machines. The installed 6-cylinder forced DXi engine is equipped with built-in Intercooler turbochargers, which makes it fully compliant with generally accepted standards in European countries. At the same time as offering optimal load capacity, the engine achieves fuel savings. The integrated ZF Ecosplit gearbox is equipped with 16 speeds and provides the possibility of manual or fully automatic gear shifting.

Important! High-speed gearboxes of Renault trucks are equipped with a built-in Optidriver+ function. It allows you to change speed almost instantly. Such devices cannot be found in any other gearboxes.

At the top are the main technical characteristics of the car, among which it is worth paying attention to such important parameters as:

dimensions7290x2500x3639 mm
Wheelbase3695 and 1370 mm
Full mass26 t
Engine capacity10,800 cm
Fuel tank volume330 l
Number of seats2
Fuel consumption28 l per 100 km

The braking system contains service brakes and retarders, and the braking process is carried out by a motor. Such a system allows you to regulate the pressure and braking of each specific wheel; this process can be carried out based on the level of interaction with the road surface.

One of the latest models of the Renault van is equipped with a high-quality anti-lock wheel system. It provides the ability to control the degree of torque when reversing and provides assistance during emergency braking. Upon completion of general braking, an emergency signal is issued, and the coordinated operation of the brakes installed on the semi-trailer and the tractor itself is ensured. The presence of a built-in anti-slip wheel helps in the upward movement process.

New in the D series - D Cab 2 m. Older brother - D 2.1 m. Although there are more serious cars in this series - D WIDE. C-series that joined the distribution

Following the latest trend, the formation of lines of trucks that meet Euro 6 requirements, Renault Trucks also did not take long to offer its customers one of the most complete lines of distribution vehicles of this standard in Western Europe. Acquaintance with trucks, traditionally, took place in the vicinity of Lyon. Renault cars are a great success among Russians, entering the Top 5 best-selling cars in our country. Having tested the new line of trucks from the French manufacturer, we concluded that they deserve no less attention. Lyon greeted the hot June sun. Thank God that the Renault Trucks technical center on the outskirts of the city was replete with green plantings, providing life-saving shade. It was more or less cool in the historical hangar - the place of the presentation. Once owned by the Berliet brand, it has become exactly the place where Renault delivery trucks trace their origins.

The updated Renault Master is a topic for another conversation

After a quick assessment of the number of test cars and those willing to drive them, it became clear that it would not be possible to drive them all. Through a painful selection of trucks desirable for communication, four were selected. But these dreams were not destined to come true; I had to be content with three.

So, before sharing our impressions of close communication with the delivery fraternity, let’s dwell a little on the extensive family of Renault Trucks delivery vehicles. Opens the Renault Master line. Some of these vans, produced at Renault Cars, are sold by agreement between the parties through the Renault Trucks network. It is for this reason that this model was immediately excluded from the list of candidates for communication. We only note that the updated Renault Master comes with a gross weight from 2.8 to 4.5 tons, features a new design, new engine versions, in particular with two turbochargers, electronic stability control (ESC) as standard and Eco-Mode providing fuel economy.

One of the youngest representatives of the delivery family - Renault Maxity

The range includes an all-metal van, a cargo-passenger version, a minibus, a chassis cab and a cab version with a platform. Available offerings include front- and rear-wheel drive, single and dual-wheel rear axles, and manual and automatic transmissions. The new Renault Master model will, as before, be the optimal vehicle for working in city conditions. The updated Renault Master can be equipped with engines (135 and 165 hp versions) with two turbochargers. Turbochargers can operate both together and separately, at low and high boost pressure, which guarantees maximum boost pressure at any engine operating condition. The machines are also distinguished by an increased level of operating comfort, improved performance, fuel economy and, as a result, low exhaust gas emissions.

Renault D Cab 2 m can be presented as a utility vehicle - D3.5 dump truck...

Next in the delivery lineup is the Renault Maxity. We have already introduced our readers to this car, including its electric version. Let us remind you that this truck is the fruit of a joint production with Nissan and is also known as the Nissan Cabstar. Let us remind you that the vehicles are produced with a total weight of 2.8–4.5 tons. They are equipped with Dxi 2.5 (120, 140 hp) or DXi 3 (150 hp) engines. Maxity, like Master, was also removed from the work list. Something had to be sacrificed... But this is not the only reason, a much more compelling one will be given at the end. But the D series (Distribution) from Renault Trucks itself presented a small surprise. It was at this presentation that the D Cab 2 m series was shown live for the first time. The total weight of this model can be from 3.5 to 7.5 tons. The new product is also the result of cooperation between the French automaker and Nissan. Those who are familiar with the Nissan delivery line will easily identify the Atleon model in it.

...and for the delivery of goods to the retail chain - D6.5

D Cab 2 m is the optimal medium-duty urban delivery truck. This is largely ensured by the compact overall dimensions of the model, placement of the engine under the cab and excellent maneuverability in urban conditions. To enhance driving comfort, the 7.5-tonne truck can be equipped with an Optitronic automated transmission. In addition, all D Cab 2 m vehicles are offered with a final drive with an increased number of gear ratios, providing additional fuel savings. DTI 3 engines with 150 and 180 hp. Euro 6 compliant trucks are distinguished by excellent performance thanks to the high torque available from as low as 1,200 min-1 - an ideal solution for distribution trucks.

A variety of wheelbase and power take-off options, coupled with ready-to-use superstructures, make the Renault Trucks D Cab 2 m a very suitable truck for distribution operations. By the way, the length of the body can vary from 2900 to 6400 mm, which is optimal for different areas of application. The cab tilt angle is 45°, which facilitates access to the engine and greatly simplifies maintenance. The D Cab 2 m features an adjustable, suspended, heated driver's seat and a red seat belt, a hallmark of the new Renault Trucks range. In a three-seat cab configuration, the center seat, when folded, can serve as a table on which the driver can place various items. This configuration provides each passenger with a separate seat. The spacious cabin with ample legroom (largely achieved thanks to the low engine tunnel) can comfortably accommodate three people.

D Cab 2.1 m series trucks can be supplied with a double cab version

The ergonomic dashboard is located within the driver's reach, which greatly simplifies the management of various systems. Among them, it is worth noting the central digital display, which displays information about the operation of the car. The multifunction steering wheel contains buttons for cruise control, telephone and audio controls. Renault Trucks D Cab 2 m is equipped with an automatic air conditioning system, a navigation system, as well as 12 V sockets, which significantly increases the level of driver comfort.

The D WIDE series is designed for heavier work. For example, for garbage collection

The truck demonstrates excellent maneuverability in dense city traffic. This will be appreciated by carrier companies looking for a maneuverable, comfortable, load-carrying and economical vehicle. For the removal of household waste, emergency repairs or road work, a rear-wheel drive modification with dual wheels on the rear axle is offered. It can also be fitted with a fire truck add-on. It is worth noting the following. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt such a feeling of satisfaction from interacting with a delivery truck. Despite the ascetic but quite comfortable interior of the cabin (Japanese roots can be traced), the car shows amazing maneuverability and dynamics. The assessment would have been even more complete if the organizers had loaded the car with even a little ballast. For starters, she would stop being a jerk, and the pleasure from communicating with the machine would only double. Special words about the operation of the manual transmission. It was so clear that it can be compared with the work on a good passenger car.

Typical representatives of the D series

Next in ascending order were the representatives of the D Cab 2.1 m series - delivery chassis with a gross weight of 10 to 18 tons. These are single trucks with a 4x2 and 4x4 wheel arrangement, on the chassis of which you can install different types of superstructures: from vans to firefighting and utility equipment. The new design of the heavier D-Series is consistent with trucks in the all-new T, C and K series, enhancing the rugged feel of distribution vehicles. The D series also offers new interior trim, which provides additional comfort. All controls are within reach and extremely easy to use. In addition, there are many places for storing personal belongings, which allows the driver to properly organize his work space. An ergonomic instrument panel, tilt- and height-adjustable steering column, a large digital display, as well as Bluetooth and CD-MP3 radio are designed to make the driver's work easier.

The D WIDE series may well be used for regional distribution

New ergonomic seats have been designed to improve comfort and feature new upholstery fabric. Cruise control and an automated transmission with steering wheel controls allow the driver to fully concentrate on driving. In total, the D Cab 2.1 m series has 6 types of cabs, including two-row ones. All chassis of the D Cab 2.1 m series are equipped with leaf spring suspension, and in two versions - normal and reinforced. The D series with a gross weight of 10 to 18 tons will be equipped with new Euro 6 engines. These are the 4-cylinder DTI 5 (210 and 240 hp - in the 240 hp version, this engine is the most powerful on the market among the “fours”) and the 6-cylinder DTI 8 (250 and 280 hp).

Trucks used in municipal services (D Cab 2.1 m, D WIDE and C-series) are equipped with both manual and robotic gearboxes

New motors are created based on time-tested solutions. They are maximally adapted to urban conditions. The high level of efficiency and reliability, low fuel consumption, characteristic of previous generation engines, were carefully transferred to the new engines. The ability to achieve maximum torque starting from 900 min-1 made it possible to reduce the number of manipulations with the gearbox, and as a result, fuel consumption was reduced. Trucks in this series are equipped with both standard manual gearboxes and automatic ones (robotic and hydromechanical), which reduce fuel consumption while allowing the driver to fully concentrate on driving the truck.

If desired, their place can be taken by an Allison automatic transmission.

During the short time spent communicating with the truck that we managed to take for testing (D12.210, chassis with a van), we noted the good ergonomics of the driver’s workplace, excellent maneuverability and decent dynamics (despite loading to full weight) provided by both the engine and and robotic gearbox. The only thing I would like is for the engine brake to work more efficiently. The segment with a gross weight from 16 to 26 tons was represented by the D WIDE series (cabin width 2.3 m). The machines are presented both in single versions (4x2, 6x2, 6x2*4) and for operation as part of road trains with a gross weight of up to 44 tons (4x2). For the D WIDE series, 4 types of cabins are offered, two of which are equipped with sleeping places. For the D WIDE series, only 6-cylinder DTI 8 engines (250, 280 and 320 hp) are provided. They can be aggregated with mechanical or automatic gearboxes (“robot” or GMP). The chassis is available with either full leaf spring suspension, in a combined version, or with fully air suspension. For customers wishing to further reduce operating costs, the Optifuel program can be offered for the D Cab 2.1 m and D WIDE series. At the same time, fleet-wide fuel savings can reach 15%. The D series is completed by a model with a cabin with a low entry level - D ACCESS. This is also the fruit of cooperation, but with the British company Denis.

The D Cab 2.1 m double cab chassis is mostly used by firefighters

Renault D ACCESS is the only low entry vehicle on the market, available with a 2.29m cab width, allowing waste collection on narrow streets. The cabin step is located at a height of only 435 mm from the ground. To facilitate entry/exit on the passenger side, a bus-type door can be installed upon request. At the same time, the D ACCESS chassis can be supplied in a wider version, with a 2.5 m wide cab. Renault D ACCESS trucks in the 6x2 version can be equipped with an electronically controlled rear steering axle, providing better maneuverability at low speeds and greater directional stability at tall. Thus, with an overall width of 2.29 m and a turning radius on the outer wheel of 6.6 m, the D ACCESS has the best performance in its class. Renault Trucks D ACCESS is equipped with a DTI 8 Euro 6 engine in two power options: 280 and 320 hp. With. The engines are coupled with Allison 3000 automatic transmissions. This transmission perfectly meets the requirements of waste collection vehicles.

All-wheel drive versions are also available for them.

Despite the fact that the C series is located closer to construction trucks, they also have their place in urban transportation. This mainly concerns the removal of construction waste, delivery of containers to construction sites, installation of various superstructures for municipal purposes (special superstructures of large mass - vacuum pumps, etc.). Just one of the representatives of this family became the third in communication. It turned out to be a Renault C320 6×2 R E6, equipped with a HIAB brand “multi-lift”. Since the cab on the truck turned out to be unified with the D series, no special innovations were noted. Naturally, the more powerful engine was already paired with a 12-speed Optidriver robotic gearbox. The solid truck turned out to be just as maneuverable as its brothers. The engine power was quite enough to keep up with the traffic on an equal footing, without causing inconvenience to other road users. But the efficiency of the engine brake was not up to par. It seems that the “robot”, for the sake of fuel economy, deliberately keeps the engine speed in the lower part of the “green sector”, while in most cases much higher speeds are needed for normal operation of the engine brake. In general, something like this.

In conclusion, what will be available on the Russian market and in what version. We will not see Renault Master from Renault Trucks. In Russia, the prerogative of deliveries lies with Renault Cars. We won't see the Renault Maxity either. It turned out that this model was also transferred to the management of Renault Cars. But since the Nissan Cabstar is already represented on our market, and its sales are not so great, you will not find this model in the list of offers. The competition in this segment is too strong.

Renault ACCESS is a real garbage truck

We will not see representatives of the D series in full either. Firstly, cars with Euro-6 engines are not allowed to come to us. Secondly, the D Cab 2 m and D ACCESS series are currently only available in this version. In the future, it is possible to supply such vehicles from France after they are equipped with Euro-5 engines. With the D Cab 2.1 m series, everything is simpler. The first 10 cars on order with Euro-5 engines have already been imported to Russia from France. The introduction of restrictions on the movement of commercial vehicles within Moscow played a decisive role in this process. The D WIDE series will be supplied on order to customers focused on municipal transport and carrying out both urban and regional transport. The start of deliveries of the C series is scheduled for October. As delivery vehicles with Euro-5 engines, they will be supplied only upon order.

Cabin decoration

The new truck tractor is characterized not only by ideal technical features, but also by the comfort it provides to drivers. Popular innovations include the following:

  1. An access concept system that allows doors to swing open 90 degrees. This increases the overall service life of door structures.

  1. The steps are covered with anti-slip material.
  2. There are handrails on both sides of the door.

The size of the car cabin is 2.2 meters in length and 2 meters in height. Each cabin has a seating area designed for the driver. Its dimensions are 2.02 by 0.78 m. This is quite comfortable for the driver. During the trip he will be able to fully rest. The entire interior of the cabin is upholstered in soft, eco-friendly material; there is a built-in lighting fixture that provides soft light that is comfortable for the eyes.

The Renault tractor seats are equipped with a heating function. There is also the largest possible enlarged cabin glazing, which provides the widest possible view. The truck tractor is equipped with a fairly large number of mirrors. The side windows are tinted and the windshield has several layers. There is also a windshield, and the rear views can be heated by starting this function from the control panel. There is a hatch at the top of the cabin. Correct parking is ensured by a wide mirror.

Summing up

The truck tractor provides optimal comfort for drivers, and also makes it possible to quickly and effectively monitor the general condition of the machine. The new trucks are equipped with modern, functional computer systems. The unique dashboard that the truck is equipped with includes a modern on-board computer, LED lamps, control indicators and switches.
