"Gazelle NEXT CNG" with 3-liter dual-fuel EvoTech
The Gorky Automobile Plant presented a new gas modification of its light-duty truck: the Gazelle NEXT CNG received an upgraded EvoTech 3.0 gas-petrol engine. As is clear from its designation, the displacement was increased from 2.7 to 3 liters, which, when running on gasoline, made it possible to increase the maximum power to 120 hp. and maximum torque up to 252 Nm. If the engine switches to methane power, these parameters are, respectively, 109 hp. and 225 Nm.
It will not be in demand: the use of compressed gas ensures a reduction in operating costs by 40-50% compared to gasoline and diesel analogues.
A little about the upgraded EvoTech dual-fuel engine with a displacement increased to 3 liters. Its important feature is the use of a cast iron cylinder block instead of the aluminum block installed on previous versions. This made it possible to reduce the heat load and increase the stability of the power unit at high temperatures. Changes affected the crankshaft and camshaft, cylinder head and piston. The EvoTech 3.0 design provides for minibuses to be equipped with a dual-circuit air conditioning system, and refrigerators to be equipped with two compressors.
“Gazelle NEXT CNG” is equipped with four gas cylinders with a total volume of 33.2 (all-metal van) to 41.6 (on-board modifications) cubic meters. The power reserve is 750 km, including 300 km on gas. Gas cylinder equipment manufactured by the Italian companies Emer and OMVL is certified according to UNECE Regulation No. 110. The multi-level engine safety system includes a high-speed valve (limiting gas leakage in case of damage to the gas tubes), a fire valve (providing gas release when the temperature exceeds 100 °C) and safety valve (provides gas release when the pressure exceeds 300 atm.).

According to the project plans, fuel savings should be ensured by reducing the working volume of the internal combustion engine, increasing the compression ratio and significantly improving the processes occurring in the engine, optimizing the exhaust and intake tracts.
As a result of the improved cooling system, it was possible to reduce the load on the components and parts of the piston group, and optimize the recirculation of exhaust and crankcase gases. All this became possible thanks to the use of high-quality imported components.
The Evotech power unit used components and mechanisms from suppliers and partners representing well-known global brands:
- LG (South Korea) supplied pistons, valve springs, piston rings, plastic components, spark plugs, gaskets and a host of other small parts;
- Bosch (Germany) supplied sensors for various purposes: temperature, knock and synchronization sensors, sensors indicating engine crankshaft phases;
- Delphi (USA) supplied throttle devices, a fuel ramp damper, and injectors;
- Eaton (USA) supplied hydraulic compensators.
The work carried out to create this engine ensures low repair costs and eliminates vehicle downtime during long-term repairs. Ultimately, the carrier receives a reliable engine with an increased service life.
The UMZ 4216 engine, which was the prototype for the creation of Evotech, was particularly maintainable. It should be noted that the new motor’s high maintainability was inherited.
