1.1.2. Starting the engine under various conditions

Starting the engine using an EFU (Electric Torch Device). When the outside air temperature is from –4 to –20°C, to facilitate starting a cold engine, use an electric torch device in the following order: 1. Remove air from the engine power supply system, for which, pump the engine fuel system with a manual fuel priming pump until the bypass valve of the fuel injection pump opens. high pressure (when triggered a characteristic sound appears). To speed up the release of air from the fuel system, loosen the fuel line from the outlet of the fine fuel filter. On vehicles equipped with engines 7403.10, fuel priming pump 1 is installed on the injection pump. On cars 740.11-240 and 740.111-300, there are two options for installing the fuel priming pump 6 on the coarse fuel filter (see Fig. 11) and on a bracket located under the fuel tank mounting clamp.

2. Place the transmission control lever in neutral and move the engine stop handle to the down position. 3. Press the fuel pedal to its middle position. Pull out the fuel control handle as far as it will go and lock it by turning it. 4. Turn on the batteries. Starting the engine using the PZD-30 pre-heater . Starting must be done in the following order: 1. Turn on the battery switch. 2. Open the tap on the fuel tank of the heater and fill the heater power supply system with fuel by pumping the fuel priming pump several times by hand (see Fig. 11). 3. Set the heater switch knob to position III and press the electric heater button (see Fig. 3) for a while depending on the ambient temperature: 60 sec at temperatures up to –40°C: 90 sec –50°C.

4. Move the switch to position I and hold it in this position (no more than 30 seconds) until a characteristic hum appears in the heat exchanger, indicating that the fuel in the burner has ignited. 5. Release the switch, which will automatically move to position II; a continued, even hum in the heat exchanger indicates that the heater is operating in a stable mode. 6. If the start of the heater fails, you need to move the switch to position 0 and repeat the start after 1-2 minutes. If after two attempts with switching to position I for 30 seconds with intervals between attempts of 1 minute, the heater does not start working, then it is necessary to find faults and eliminate them. When the liquid in the engine cooling system warms up to 70-80°C, you must stop the fuel supply by setting the switch to position 0 and close the valve of the heater fuel tank. After this, you need to start the engine by pressing the clutch pedal all the way.

Starting the engine using PZD-30 when filling the cooling system with water ; 1. Prepare 35-40 liters of soft water without mechanical impurities; 2. Close the radiator shutters, the cabin heater valve (see Fig. 3) and raise the cabin; 3. Remove the plug of the expansion tank and the heater funnel. Close all drain valves. If the taps are frozen, close them while the engine is warming up, after water begins to flow out of the tap; 4. Before filling the system with water, perform a test run of the heater and turn it off after 10-15 seconds of operation. 5. Pour 2 liters of water into the heat exchanger of the heater through a funnel and immediately turn on the heater. 6. Immediately after the heater starts operating, add another 4 liters of water and tighten the funnel cap. If the heater starts unsuccessfully or stops spontaneously, the start must be repeated and if it fails, drain the water immediately. When the engine warms up to the temperature corresponding to the opening temperature of the thermostat valves (this will be indicated by the appearance of steam from the filler neck of the expansion tank), you need to fill the cooling system to its full volume (until water flows through the control valve), through the neck of the expansion tank, and then close the neck with a plug. After filling the cooling system with water, you need to lower the cabin and let the heater work until the engine warms up, and then turn off the heater, close the fuel valve of the heater and start the engine. When the engine is running at an average crankshaft speed, you need to open the cabin heater tap, and after filling the heater system with hot water, add water to the expansion tank to 2/3 of its volume.

Engine stop. Before stopping, let the engine run for 1-2 minutes without load at an average crankshaft speed. Reduce the crankshaft speed to minimum, then pull out the engine stop handle all the way and leave it in that position. After the engine is running, turn off the vehicle's batteries by pressing the remote switch button.
