GAZ 3307 dump trucks and some other modifications of the GAZ 3307 model range were equipped with diesel engines adapted to work with a five-speed manual transmission. Speed shifting was carried out by a friction single-plate clutch with a hydraulic drive. When installing a gasoline engine on a GAZ 3307 car, a four-speed gearbox was installed, one of the serious drawbacks of which was a characteristic howl while driving.
GAZ 3307 vehicles have a dependent suspension. Shock absorbers with semi-elliptical springs are installed on the front wheels. The shock absorbers on the rear wheels have been replaced with additional springs. The ends of the main sheets are installed in support brackets, in rubber cushions.
The GAZ 3307 brake system is considered one of the most reliable even today. The hydraulic brake drive is equipped with redundant brake circuits, with one of the circuits controlling the spare brake. Each circuit includes a vacuum hydraulic booster, a vacuum cylinder with a blocking valve. The cylinders provide independent power supply to the circuits. The parking brake is installed on the transmission. Braking of the GAZ 3307 car is carried out by drum brake mechanisms.

The management of the Gorky plant realized the need for changes in the design of equipment in the 80s. Since that time, the development of cars began, mainly unified with third-generation models, but more productive and powerful. Thanks to the actual transfer of main components from one generation of equipment to another, it was possible to reduce the cost of repairs, spare parts and interservice maintenance of machines.
Meeting the requirements of the time, the GAZ-3307 offered the user a spacious double cabin with ventilation and heating. At the end of 1989, mass production of the 3307 model with a factory ZMZ engine and 4x2 wheel arrangement was launched. The vehicle had a carrying capacity of 4.5 tons and was designed for driving on paved roads.

Fuel selection
The car is lubricated with M-8V or M-6/10V motor oils . In severe frost conditions - ASZp-6.
To lubricate the gearbox, TAP-15v is used at temperatures above -25 degrees; in the range between -25 and -30, TSp-10 is best suited; when the temperature is below -30 degrees, TSp-15K engine oil diluted with diesel fuel is needed.
They can also be used to lubricate the steering wheel.
It is recommended to fill the final drive housing with TSp-14gip at any time of the year, and at temperatures below 30 degrees - Sz-9gip.
Liquid AZh-12T is used for shock absorbers.

When choosing between an old and a new truck, priority should be given to the latter: it contains modern modifications, parts for it will be easier to find, and it will last much longer.

Cabin
There is more free space inside. The dashboard received an abundance of all kinds of sensors. A two-spoke steering wheel with a thin rim was installed in front of them. Among the largest sensors on the dashboard are the round powertrain speed sensor on the left and the speedometer mounted in the center.
In addition to them, there are sensors for oil, engine temperature, fuel level, battery charge and pneumatic system. More modern vehicles have fairly good seats with moderate lateral support.
To the right of the driver you can see the gearshift lever, which has a curved appearance. The entire front panel is made of plastic, and the door cards are made of pleasant fabric material.
The driver's seat itself has a sprung type, but the previous model did not have this. Moreover, the chair can be adjusted according to the angle of the backrest and in the horizontal plane.
Despite the fact that the truck cabin was developed in accordance with the standards of the Soviet era, and it had angular shapes, when compared with its predecessors, there was more free space, which, in turn, had a positive effect on comfort.
On the false panels of the doors, auxiliary side pockets appeared, which made it possible to store various small things in them. We also worked on good thermal insulation, which increased the level of comfort, and it became much more pleasant to stay inside the truck. The cabin itself was borrowed from the experimental GAZ-4301 car, which was introduced in 1984.
It had increased dimensions and was designed for a couple of people, including the driver. The main controls were fairly easy to reach. It’s very nice that they began to install seat belts, a modern instrument panel along with soft upholstery on the interior panels and doors.
Device
Body
The metal body is tilted hydraulically, and an electro-pneumatic mechanism controls this process. The body platform is equipped with three folding sides. They must be closed manually, and the platform is controlled by levers in the cockpit.
Depending on the design, these dump trucks can be unloaded in two ways. In the first case, the platform leans back, tilting 50 degrees. The second option is more convenient; it involves unloading in three directions (back, left and right). The platform tilts sideways up to 45 degrees.

Engine
A powerful four-stroke engine with eight cylinders arranged in a “V” shape runs on gasoline. Suitable grades are AI-80 or AI-76. If fuel with a higher octane number was used, then the ignition system (it is non-contact) had to be pre-adjusted. There is a pre-heater.
The engine has a liquid-type cooling system, and exhaust gases pass through a recirculation device for cleaning. There is an OHV valvetrain located at the top of the engine. Aluminum cylinder heads have helical inlet ports and highly turbulent combustion chambers. Lubrication occurs in two ways: by spraying and under pressure.
Steering
The steering wheel of this car is controlled only mechanically - it does not have a hydraulic booster. The three-joint steering column is attached with four bolts to the bracket on which the brake and clutch pedals are located. Two bearings are used to rotate the steering shaft. Both tubular tie rods are mounted on hinges that are not adjustable.
The worm type transmission consists of a globoid worm and a roller with three ridges. They are connected in such a way that when the car is moving in a straight line, free rotation of the steering wheel is impossible.
If it is necessary to turn right or left, then a free turning angle occurs (its maximum value is 30 degrees). The dump truck moves in the desired direction, and there is no wobble at the front wheels.
Brakes
The car has three brake systems:
- The working system acts on all shoe mechanisms of the wheels of the unit (on each axle separately). In each of the two circuits it has a hydraulic vacuum amplifier, as well as a supply vacuum cylinder with a valve. The movement of the pistons of the common brake cylinder is carried out by pressing the brake pedals. As a result, excess pressure is created in the hydraulic drive, which causes the drum brakes to operate.
- The spare system serves as a backup. It represents a separate circuit of the working system.
- The parking system only works with the rear wheels of the car. It is needed when holding the car on a slope, as well as while parking. Its drive is mechanical, cable. Turned on by lever.
Electrics
A single-wire electrical system with an alternator, rectifier and transistor voltage regulator produces 12 V. There is also a 75 Ah battery, which is connected to the unit body through a switch. Electricity powers the headlights, headlights, taillights, pre-heater, starter, windshield wiper, and ignition.
