Basically, I did the conversion of trucks from flatbed trucks to dump trucks. But there were also vacuum installations and garbage trucks, so there were all sorts of things. That is, again, I say that I have experience and experience in this matter.
And so, friends, today we will look at the conversion from a cargo dump truck to a cargo dump truck. What you and I will need for this:
The first is, of course, a dump truck. You can buy a new dump truck or simply buy an old Lawn, a dump truck, and remove it from it. I usually prefer the second option. Because a new dump truck costs about 300 rubles, or rather it cost with a turnkey installation, well, where about two years ago. Today I cannot say the exact cost.
So, as I stated above: I prefer the option of buying an old Lawn dump truck. Where is it possible, today, within 60-70 tr, to buy a completely normal dump truck, an old lawn, in this situation, we are only interested in a dump truck, and the Lawn can be used for scrap metal or for spare parts.
The second thing we need is, of course, the PTO (Power Take-Off).
Pay attention to KOM Gas-3307 and Gas-53 which is shown in the picture. This PTO is suitable for Gaz-3307 and Gaz-53 trucks with a four-speed gearbox (gearbox). And the ZMZ-511 gasoline engine and modifications. Why I decided to draw your attention to this point, because there is also a Gas-3307 with a ZMZ-511 gasoline engine and modifications with a five-speed gearbox (gearbox). There is already another KOM , but today we are talking about the KOM which is shown in the picture above and is installed on Gaz-3307 and Gaz-53 with a four-speed gearbox.
I would also like to draw your attention to this point. KOM for Gas-3307 and Gas-53 is of two types, mainly.
The first is, of course, for dump trucks, that is, for the NSh-32 pump. NSh-32 on KOM Gaz-3307 and Gaz-53, for a dump truck, is set to left rotation (In case anyone doesn’t know, NSh there are left rotation and right rotation). That is, on the marking at the very end there should be the letter L, that is, approximately the following marking: NSh-32 U3 L. If there is no letter, then that is NSh-32 U3, this is already NSh of right rotation.
The second type is under the driveshaft. That is, here it is no longer a pump that is installed, but a flange under the cardan shaft. Typically, this KOM Gas-3307 and Gas-53 is used on vacuum installations or on fuel trucks.
Thirdly, you and I will need a hydraulic cylinder for lifting the platform.
If you are installing a cylinder that is not new, but removed from somewhere, then I recommend that you better disassemble the cylinder and repair it. You just need to clamp the cylinder in a vice and unscrew the lower cap. Then you need to remove the retaining rings one by one and knock out the rods one by one. The old rubber cuffs need to be replaced. Repair kits for hydraulic cylinders can be purchased at auto parts stores. It’s not that expensive, around 130-150 rubles. Installation of a diesel engine on a GAZ-53 dump truck
My Gas 53 dump truck, 1982, was purchased in 2004 for 19,500 rubles.
The idea appeared immediately after purchase, but there was no suitable engine for installation. But in 2009 I purchased a D-243 engine with a GAZ 53 gearbox. I bought the 1993 engine for 99,000 rubles. Having worked for only 1 year, it lay in one grandfather’s garage for several years. We brought him on October 15, 2009.
Cabin
The cabin was removed using a tractor on our own, but to remove the body we had to call a fiskar. They dismantled their original engine, and all that remained was a bare frame with wheels.
The front beam was removed, the gas 53 rear axle too, the frame was cleaned with a grinder, there weren’t even any shock absorber mounts left. The frame was left completely bare; we dragged it closer to the gate, since the other day we were supposed to bring a well-preserved frame from the bus.

Beam, rear and front axle
When I was on a business trip, my son disassembled the front beam himself, after that, having bought new kingpins, we began to assemble the car. We replaced the support washers with support bearings. Having replaced the kingpins, we also changed the brake cylinders; the old ones did not work at all. Having assembled the front beam, we moved on to the springs.
The springs had 13 leaves on each side. I removed 1 leaf and cut 2 new rear main springs to size and added them to each side. This was done because the D-243 is 130 kg heavier than the original engine.
Rear springs (13 on each side) were added for load capacity - 3 leaves on each side. It turned out to be 16 sheets, one for each spring.
I’ll find out if the load capacity has changed after the first loaded test drive. I wanted to install shock absorbers to absorb impacts, but I couldn’t install them because the stepladders were not long enough.
After the beam and rear axle were installed and all the frame work was completed, this is what the lawn looked like.
Then we moved to the front and started fiddling with the engine mounts. I am attaching a photo of the whole process.
Here we estimated the dimensions, mounting holes, and simply took it and temporarily placed it on the frame with the help of a tractor.
After we “tried on” the engine, we began making fastenings. We started with the rear bracket, since the gas clutch and gearbox also fit. It turned out that the fastenings on the casing were the same as those on the original casing, only the holes were further away from each other.
Therefore, we decided to simply make holes nearby, after calculating how many centimeters they would be larger. I had to spend a whole 2 hours on two holes.

Then we moved on to the front fastener, where we had to struggle with adjusting the cut. After welding it with scarves, this is what came out in the end.
Then came the most nervous moment, it was necessary to install the internal combustion engine. But we didn’t know whether we made the calculations correctly, whether the internal combustion engine would sit in place. Fortunately, we calculated everything correctly, and the internal combustion engine sat on the front mount. After that, they installed a UAZ pillow with minor modifications. On the back is your original GAZ one, bought in a store.
