GAZ 3309 is a cargo model produced by the Gorky plant, used for transporting medium-heavy cargo on any roads, including dirt and country roads.
The vehicle has an all-metal double cabin with a hood arrangement. The standard ventilation and heating systems of the GAZ 3309 show their best performance even in harsh weather conditions.

Currently, GAZon is equipped with three types of turbocharged diesel engines. The first received a volume of 3.8 liters, with a power of up to 112 horsepower. Fuel consumption per 100 km at an average speed of 60 kilometers per hour is 14 liters. The next configuration is 4.4, developing 134 horsepower.

Diesel here consumes 15.1 liters. And the latest version is 4.7, with a peak power value of 125 horses. The consumption rate of this modification is 16.4 liters. The gearbox is manual throughout, operating in five modes. At the moment, the car is equipped only with rear axle drive, although previously there were options with all-wheel drive.

The five-speed manual transmission has synchronizer in all gears; driving the car is very comfortable due to the pre-installed hydraulic booster. On both axles there is a spring-type suspension, which is supplemented at the front with double-acting telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers, softening shocks and preventing the sides from swaying.

It should be noted the good dynamic performance of the GAZ 3309 , which distinguishes it from analogues in its class. The maximum speed of 95 km/h is more than sufficient for driving on dirt roads and city asphalt; the amount of fuel consumed at a calm pace is 14 - 19 l/100 km, which is a consequence of weak aerodynamics. The load capacity of 4.5 tons allows you to install a huge amount of different equipment on the chassis:

Taking into account the common design of the GAZ-3307 and GAZ-3309, the Operation Manual has been compiled for both models of these vehicles. This instruction notes their main difference - in the type of engine: the GAZ-3307 has a carburetor gasoline engine, and the GAZ-3309 has a diesel engine. Externally, the diesel truck is distinguished by the presence of a snorkel air intake located on the driver’s side.

This type of medium-duty truck in the basic version is designed for transporting goods, and the use of trailers is not provided for them. At the same time, the operating instructions indicate that a variety of specialized vehicles (dump trucks, tank trucks, vans, and others) can be manufactured on the chassis of GAZ-3309 vehicles.

Pros:

In general, this truck is recognized by the majority of its owners and drivers as quite durable, unpretentious and functional. An important advantage is that the GAZ-3309 is extremely easy to maintain and operate, has optimal technical characteristics, a very reliable engine and gearbox.

The ride quality is excellent for domestic roads, including quite harsh ones. The cabin is warm, visibility is good, the instrument panel contains all the necessary information.

Minuses:

Among the shortcomings, there is excessive noise and vibration of the Minsk engine, and the associated insufficient sound insulation of the cabin and hood. (“When you move with acceleration, you can hardly hear the passenger because of the noise of the engine; and when you stand, the engine threshes like a tractor”).

Many people insulate and soundproof the cabin with vibroplast and thick linoleum. There are often cases of downright poor and careless factory assembly, leading to minor but annoying breakdowns and problems. Other consequences of poor assembly are extraneous squeaks and rattling noises when moving.

The morally outdated design of the 80s of the last century also causes criticism. There are many signals of poor quality and generally careless factory processing. (“The cabin rusts very quickly, and therefore it is better to start processing it immediately after purchase”).

The result can be summed up something like this. GAZ-3309 is well suited for local cargo transportation (around the city and region). Its owners and drivers do not recommend traveling long distances in this car - for reasons of both comfort and practicality.

The costs of maintaining the truck are small, and therefore the GAZ-3309 begins to bring in profits when used for commercial purposes quite quickly and regularly, paying off much faster than any “foreign car”. You can always find cheap spare parts in stock, and anyone who knows even a little about how cars work will be able to fix the breakdown on their own in a fairly short time.
