How to adjust the carburetor on a Ural 2 Electron chainsaw

We can say that the Ural 2 electron chainsaw is a kind of relative of the well-known and popular Druzhba chainsaw, which had the right to exist in the period from 1955 to 2008. Its production is carried out by a plant located in the city of Perm and was named in honor of F. E. Dzerzhinsky. To date, this manufacturer has produced more than 14,000,000 models of Ural chainsaws ; it is this feature that today makes it possible to produce significant industrial volumes in most of the logging industry of our country. And this is not surprising, since the Ural 2 electron chainsaw is not only a powerful, but also a practical assistant. In the article we will talk about adjusting the carburetor of the Ural chainsaw.

Specifications

This model has a number of significant advantages, namely: it is very comfortable to use, equipped with the highest level of power, reliable, and its most important advantage is that it is environmentally friendly both for you and for the environment.
Thanks to the high handles that the model is equipped with, you will be less tired, since this feature can significantly reduce fatigue during operation of the tool. Moreover, they also make it easier to work in areas where snow cover predominates.

The most powerful chainsaw engine

It is the most powerful motor mechanism, reliability and practicality of the design, safety and lack of gas pollution that allow it to be the best professional power tool throughout our country. If you purchase such a technical find for yourself, then you will not have any problems purchasing tires that are sold in any specialized store.

During operation, the chainsaw chain may become dull. Any chainsaw owner needs to know how to sharpen a chain.

You will need a machine for sharpening chainsaw chains, which you can also read about in our article.

To ensure that the saw does not break down longer, you need to use only high-quality oil. How not to make a mistake when choosing chainsaw oil, read our article.

Description of the complete model:

  • total weight - 11.7 kg (not including the starter);
  • movement is made from the right side to the left;
  • total sawing capacity – cm2/s 100;
  • general dimensions – 880x455x460.
  • cylinder (diameter) – 55 mm;
  • the total engine power after daily operation is no more than 3.68 kW per 5 liters. With;
  • systematic rotation of the crankshaft at the highest power min -1 6200;
  • Fuel consumption at maximum operating power is no more than 632 (465).

But, despite such a positive characteristic of this model, there are also negative aspects of this kind of chainsaw that, to be honest, spoil all the previous positive emotions.

First of all, what I would like to draw your attention to is the fact that, despite the high location of the side handles, it is not possible to avoid the fumes emanating from the engine. So you will have to breathe in a little unpleasant and harmful odors while working.

The second drawback can be considered the air filter, namely the mesh built into it, which has fairly large cells. It is this unpleasant feature that causes the effective performance to be significantly reduced, which leads to a proportional increase in gasoline - oil ratio of 20:1, and, consequently, in imported models - 50:1.

Repair and adjustment of the KMP-100 carburetor from the Ural chainsaw

Many people have asked to make a video on carburetor

, and now I have this opportunity.

But, nevertheless, the engine spare parts are not selected carefully enough, unlike imported models, so even if minor debris gets in, it will not cause significant problems, as it will simply burn out.

Chainsaw repair specialist

Another important disadvantage is that servicing this type of chainsaw is quite difficult and troublesome. Since it will be very difficult for an ordinary person, that is, not a professional, to understand the instructions, since its size is amazing, well, it’s really a real work of art.

It indicates everything about how and what to do in the event of a breakdown, from stretching bolts and general fasteners to systematic disassembly and cleaning of the engine. In fact, nothing complicated, just read and follow what is written, but not everything is so simple, since even careful implementation of all the prescribed repair and maintenance items on the tool is simply not a guarantee that the engine will not begin to jam over time, or the cord will not break , the editor will not fail and there will be no excess fuel output.

In fact, the lack of a brake (chain) is not a significant problem, but that is until you personally encounter this breakdown.

But, naturally, this model is not only “filled” with shortcomings, since its arsenal also has a significant advantage over its counterparts, namely the ability to perform sawing work along the fibers. Of course, the Ural 2 electron chainsaw will serve for quite a long time, as they say faithfully, but only if it falls into “smart” and economical hands.

Brand Description

Chainsaws “Ural” are a development of the Perm Machine-Building Plant, which have gained popularity both in Russia and in neighboring countries. In Ukraine, Ural chainsaws are very popular due to such qualities as good assembly, versatility, a wide range of models and endurance, combined with a low number of breakdowns. In terms of popularity, this tool can only be compared with the Druzhba chainsaw, which was once very popular in Russia.

Running in a chainsaw

Often, after purchasing a new tool, the thought arises - how to ensure its longest service life without breakdowns and expensive repairs. Proper running-in of the chainsaw will help ensure this operation. To understand what running-in is, how to do it correctly, and why it is actually needed, knowledge of the following information will help:

Running in is necessary to minimize friction in the internal components of the chainsaw. In simpler words, this means that all moving parts must “grind in” well with each other for their long-term and problem-free operation. During this period, the saw needs to be given variable loads. Namely, alternate periods of idle operation with minimum and medium load modes.

Important! It is not recommended to use the saw at maximum loads until the break-in period is completed. As a rule, running in a chainsaw is done as follows:

As a rule, running in a chainsaw is done as follows:

  1. During the first 5 - 6 hours of break-in, you need to start working with the saw in idle mode. This means that you can start sawing only after first accelerating the chain to a certain speed and carefully measuring the force when working with the saw. Only after a few hours is it possible to move from low to medium loads, always alternating them with idle operation.
  2. For better running-in of the piston group, an increased concentration of lubricant is created in the fuel mixture in a ratio of approximately 1:15 to fuel. This proportion will allow the internal components of the engine to break in with each other as painlessly as possible.
  3. It is determined that for a full running-in of a chainsaw, it is enough to use approximately 4 - 5 full tanks of gasoline.

Safety precautions

The most important thing is not to forget that you need to work with a chainsaw only in special clothing. That is, you must have special gloves, specialized shoes and, of course, clothing and durable material that would fully cover your body. The second important nuance is your position during operation.

Remember that your body should move away directly from the saw. Also, under no circumstances should you manipulate the saw if you have consumed alcohol, taken any medications, or simply feel unwell.

Flaws

But, like every working tool, the Ural Electron 2 model also has disadvantages:

  • heavy weight, when holding the saw with your hands, the latter quickly get tired during active work;
  • the model is no longer produced by the manufacturer;
  • overall massiveness of the device;
  • in remote areas of the country there may be difficulties with spare parts.

In the Urals, developers have provided a vibration damping system, but even with its use it was not possible to reduce their level to completely safe values and vibration during sawing is noticeably felt. Therefore, in connection with labor safety rules, the feller is recommended to use the chainsaw for no more than two hours a day; with longer use, the worker may develop occupational diseases.

To sum it up...

Today the Ural chainsaw

2 electron deservedly takes pride of place among other models, as it is highly practical and multifunctional. Every gardener and logging company will undoubtedly be happy with this kind of acquisition. If you have not yet made your choice in favor of the Ural 2, then our article will help you: How to choose a good chainsaw: find out before buying.

Carburetor adjustment in Ural 2 electron

However, it may gradually become clear that the operating mode of the saw requires certain adjustments in order for the fuel mixture to be selected accordingly. To ensure that the setup does not cause any difficulties, you should take a screwdriver, a technical passport from the device itself, and several wrenches of appropriate sizes. It is also worth remembering some features of this process:

You should first read the manual for the saw, which should describe the factory settings;

It is important to regulate the operation of the saw strictly in idle mode. Therefore, first start the engine and keep it at idle speed

Then use the adjusting screw to bring the engine to a state where it will independently increase speed. But the chain should not move along the bus;

Further adjustment of the Ural 2 saw is made at medium speeds;

If smoke is detected from the engine, quickly tighten the screw until the smoke stops escaping. If the engine continues to operate normally, it is worth adjusting the ability of the engine to quickly gain speed when opening the throttle.

Checking the engine response is done by setting low speeds and sharply pressing the gas lever to the very bottom. If the engine stalls or cannot gain speed quickly enough, you will have to unscrew the screw a little more.

When all the necessary adjustments have been made, you need to fix the adjustment view using a lock nut.

These are the manipulations that should be done to answer the question of how to adjust the operation of the engine in this wonderful saw.

Setting the ignition of the Ural 2 chainsaw

This procedure does not require special skills. You just need to do everything according to the following scheme:

  1. The engine turns on and just warms up for a while;
  2. The owner of the saw determines for himself the most stable turns of the bar set;
  3. After this, the saw is transferred to lower speeds;
  4. The starter jerks sharply. There should be a sharp increase in engine speed. If the ignition is set correctly, then this will happen.

Knowing such a simple technique, you will not have any questions about how to adjust the ignition in this simple saw.

Running in the Ural 2 saw

To achieve minimal friction between the components in a new saw, it needs to go through a certain break-in process. At this stage, the saw should be set to different operating modes. We are talking about alternating idle mode with loads of different sizes. Wherein:

  • Be sure to start the first hours of operation of the saw at idle speed, gradually moving to low and medium loads;
  • The break-in mixture contains a high concentration of lubricant - approximately 15 to 1;
  • It is recommended to carry out a break-in process, during which approximately 4 full tanks of the device will be used up.

How to adjust the device - saw operating instructions

Before you start working with a new chainsaw, it is necessary to carry out a number of activities, namely:

Depreservation should be carried out as follows:

  1. wipe the lubricant dry with a cloth soaked in a gasoline solution from the external working surfaces of the engine, gearbox and the saw itself;
  2. take out the candle and rinse it thoroughly in gasoline, dry it and install it in its place;
  3. Take a clean cloth and wipe the surface of the ignition wire.

Chainsaw assembly

Chainsaw assembly

If you have already started to disassemble your purchase, you will definitely notice that the gearbox is located separately from the engine. So, let's start assembling our tool:

  • First of all, disconnect the frame parts by removing the screw;
  • install the engine, which must be placed in a vertical position on the crankcase cover (flange). Install the gearbox using the flange, after which connect the engine and gearbox with a clamp located on the frame.

How to start one - let's talk about that now...

  • First, you need to activate the switch that starts the ignition by turning it to the operating position;
  • Before starting the chainsaw, you need to pump some gasoline into the carburetor unit;
  • Next, pull out the choke;
  • Pull the starter (pulling type) with a sharp movement;
  • Remember, if you pull the starter slowly, the engine will spin up slowly, and this will increase the likelihood that the spark plugs will be flooded and the engine will not start;
  • And with all this, you need to warm up the spark plug, as this will allow the excess fuel mixture to evaporate.

This is clearly seen in the video:

Repair: main faults and their elimination

Most often, problems with fuel supply arise when the tiny holes of the jets become clogged and when the membrane-rocker arm pair fails. The brass cross of the rocker arm can bend or jump out of its seat and shut off the fuel supply at the wrong time. The soft membrane can dry out over time, lose elasticity, warp and also incorrectly shut off the fuel supply.

There are two ways to clean the nozzle hole:

  1. The carburetor is purged with compressed air from a compressor or pump. Remove the gasoline supply hose from the tank, put an air hose on the fitting and bleed the carburetor.
  2. If the problem is not solved, remove it, disassemble it, gain access to the jets, clean and rinse the entire chainsaw carburetor. The jet is cleaned in place or unscrewed (it is threaded).

The soft membrane on old carburetors most often fails after long breaks in operation. It just dries out without gasoline. Therefore, before starting after a long period of inactivity (a year or six months in the summer in the heat), you need to open the gas tank tap, fill the carburetor of the Ural chainsaw with gasoline, and do a test run after half an hour.

If the carburetor is several decades old, the membrane material can change its properties simply over time.

A defective membrane cannot be repaired; it is simply replaced.

Lack of tightness

Other problems with the KMP-100U carburetor are loss of tightness. Gaskets between the carburetor and the engine body, and between parts of the carburetor should not suck in air during operation and cause fuel leaks when the engine is turned off.

Gaskets can deteriorate for the same reasons as the membrane, that is, they dry out and become brittle over time.

Repair kit for Ural chainsaw carburetor

Repair kits are still sold for KMP-100U carburetors - a set of gaskets, a membrane, in other configurations there may also be a rocker arm with a spring for it.

The spring that determines the position of the rocker arm must under no circumstances be stretched. The cross of the rocker arm must lie exactly, strictly parallel to the plane of the carburetor, otherwise the fuel supply will be incorrect.

During the Soviet era, when not only chainsaws were in short supply, but also spare parts for them, gaskets were made ourselves, from paronite sheets.

In the absence of paronitis, the gaskets were made of thick single-layer paper (not cardboard), coated with oil paint.

How to prepare a fuel mixture for Ural 2T Electron

How much gasoline and oil is required to prepare a high-quality mixture for the Ural 2T Electron? Previously, the fuel mixture was prepared from AI-72 gasoline and motor oil for two-stroke engines. Today, 72-grade gasoline is replaced by 92-grade gasoline (72 has been discontinued), any oil for 2-stroke engines can be used. During the break-in period, the fuel mixture is prepared in the following ratio: 1/15. The carburetor is initially set for break-in, where more enriched fuel is used. After this is done, it is necessary to adjust the carburetor again, setting it to less enriched fuel with an oil to gasoline ratio of 20/1.

Break-in period

The testing of the Urals is carried out in 2 stages:

  1. Four full tanks of rich fuel mixture burn out at idle.
  2. The next day and for 25 hours, the chainsaw is run in with minimal loads.
  3. At the end of the break-in period, the oil in the crankcase is changed, and the carburetor is adjusted to the new mode.

Bar and chain

The Ural Electron 2 chainsaw has a guide bar of 460 millimeters. It comes with a chain as standard. It is removable and is removed during long-term storage or preservation of equipment.

Since chain links stretch during operation, this is a natural process, it is necessary to periodically monitor its tension, in other words, adjust it. The new chain stretches more strongly.

An excellent choice for this chainsaw would be the MI-10.26.16 Strong chain. After long-term use, the chain requires sharpening. For manual sharpening, a round file in the shape of a cylinder with a diameter of 5-7 mm is suitable. When sharpening, there is no need to remove the chain from the device; it is enough to simply increase the tension and sharpen “in place.”

Carburetor adjustment

Adjusting the idle speed of the chainsaw engine.

The adjustment is made by changing the quality and quantity of the combustible mixture entering the engine cylinder. The amount of mixture is changed by screw 3 (Figure 1), which limits the rotation of the throttle valve control lever 1 towards its closing. The quality of the mixture is changed with screw 1 (Figure 2) of the carburetor. When adjusting engine idle speed, you should be guided by the following requirements:

a) The engine should idle steadily and the saw chain should not move along the bar.

b) There should be no strong smoke when the engine is running.

c) The engine should have good throttle response, that is, when the throttle control lever is pressed sharply, it should quickly gain speed.

d) It is recommended to adjust the idle speed in the following sequence: - start the engine and warm it up at low and medium speeds. Use screw 3 (Figure 1) to set the minimum stable speed at which the saw chain does not move along the bar. If the engine smokes heavily (a sign of an excessively rich mixture), then partially tighten screw 1 of the carburetor. At the same time, the engine speed will increase and the exhaust smoke will decrease; — after this, you should again set the minimum, stable engine speed by partially unscrewing screw 3 (Figure 1); — after this adjustment, it is necessary to check the engine response. To do this, sharply press the throttle control lever for 2-3 seconds until it stops. In this case, the engine should quickly gain momentum. If the engine stalls or has a “drop” in power, that is, it slowly picks up speed (lean mixture), then it is necessary to partially unscrew screw 1 of the carburetor. Engine speed will decrease. To increase the idle speed, screw 3 must be partially tightened. Check engine response again; — upon completion of the adjustment, secure screw 3 with locknuts 2 (Figure 1).

4.5.2 Adjusting the engine for maximum power

This adjustment should be made after a 25-hour run-in of the chainsaw in operation and after adjusting the engine idle speed. The adjustment is made with screw 2 (Figure 2) of the carburetor, by making the combustible mixture leaner or richer at engine operating mode. When the screw is partially screwed in, the mixture becomes lean; when unscrewed, it becomes richer. The most advantageous position of the carburetor screw 2 is determined experimentally by checking the operation of the chainsaw when sawing wood. In this case, you should be guided by the following requirements for the operation of a chainsaw.

a) The chainsaw engine must develop power that ensures high sawing performance with moderate exhaust smoke.

b) The chainsaw engine must have good throttle response, must not overheat, slow down and stop when sawing wood (overheating of the engine is a sign of an excessively lean mixture and engine overload). Due to lack of experience, there may be cases of complete misadjustment of the carburetor, in which case the chainsaw stops working normally and starting the engine becomes difficult.

Setting algorithm

Calibrating the carburetor of the Ural 2 Electron saw involves changing the amount of the fuel mixture and its quality characteristics. There are two types of adjustment.

Setting idle speed

Before proceeding with the adjustment, you should make sure that:

  1. The engine runs smoothly and the chain does not move.
  2. There is no strong smoke.

The adjustment algorithm looks like this:

  1. The Ural saw engine starts and warms up a little. Screw No. 3 sets the minimum speed so that the chain remains in place. If the mixture is too rich (strong smoke comes from the exhaust pipe), then screw No. 1 should be tightened a little. This will reduce smoke and increase speed.
  2. Then you need to return all settings to the level of minimum and stable speed. This is done by partially unscrewing screw No. 3.
  3. The next step is to test the engine for throttle response. If, after pressing the throttle lever firmly, the revolutions quickly go up, then everything is done correctly, and screw No. 3 must be securely fixed in this position.

If the engine stops working or the speed increases slowly, screw No. 1 should be turned out a little. In order to increase the speed, screw No. 3 is tightened slightly. Afterwards, the Ural saw engine is re-checked for throttle response.

Setting the maximum power

Power adjustment on the Ural 2 Electron chainsaw is carried out only after the break-in period has expired (it is 25 hours of operation) and after adjusting the idle speed.

Not fully tightening the propeller means introducing more air and less fuel. When the screw is unscrewed, the opposite happens, that is, the combustible mixture becomes richer. The most preferred position of the screws can only be determined experimentally.

When setting up the Ural carburetor, you must remember the following principles for the proper operation of the chainsaw:

  1. The engine should always have good cutting performance and smoke should be moderate.
  2. The engine should always have excellent throttle response. At the same time, during the process of cutting wood, the chain should not stop, the saw should not overheat, and the engine should not slow down on its own.

If a complete misadjustment of the carburetor occurs and the engine stops starting, it is recommended to perform the following actions:

  1. Screw No. 1 is screwed in completely until it stops, and then turned out one turn, no more.
  2. Screw No. 2 is tightened to the limit, and then turned out half a turn.

This will allow you to return the adjusting screws to their original position, and then carry out proper adjustment of the carburetor of the Ural chainsaw according to the standards described above.

Removing, disassembling and cleaning the carburetor VAZ 2109

If all of the above symptoms are detected, you can begin to remove and disassemble the carburetor. On a VAZ 2109, repair of a Solex carburetor is possible when using. It is recommended to purchase in advance in order to immediately change all gaskets, jets and valves. The table contains data on jets and all necessary valves. The machine must be stationary. When sorting out the parts, the most important thing is not to lose anything.

To remove and configure the device, you need to open the hood and disconnect all the hoses from it. They are mounted on clamps, so it is recommended to stock up on a screwdriver in advance. The next stage is the cable for driving the gas pedal and air damper. Both elements can be removed quite easily. After this, remove the chip from the idle speed economizer. Dismantling is carried out extremely carefully so as not to damage the contacts. Taking everything apart is even easier.

Operating conditionsFlow capacity cm³/minOperating conditionsFlow capacity cm³/min
Light road conditions with heavy loads (economical adjustment)60Average road conditions110
Working with a trailer (economical adjustment)160
Working with a trailer (power adjustment)200
Light road conditions80

You can now remove the four housing nuts that hold the carburetor to the intake manifold. If it is difficult to remove, you can pry it out with a thick screwdriver. Clog the manifold with a rag to prevent foreign particles from getting inside and clean the seating area of any remnants of the old carburetor gasket.

The carburetor itself consists of several elements:

  • Top cover
  • Bottom cover and float chamber
  • Throttle valve block

First of all, the top cover is removed. At the same time, the condition of the needle valve and the condition of the float are checked. The valve should move without jamming and also easily return to its original position. You can immediately check the operation of the accelerator pump drive. All connections should turn easily. The operating principle of many mechanisms is very simple, and they must stand level. It is configured after assembly.

Now you need to separate the throttle body from the bottom cover. Everything is held in place with bolts, so a screwdriver will suffice. Once all components are completely disassembled, they need to be treated with throttle body cleaner or regular gasoline. Parts should be wiped with dry rags.

The jets deserve special attention. They need to not only be cleaned, but also blown out.

The thing is that the jets have very thin channels that are easily clogged with foreign particles. Even one speck is enough to disable the entire unit. Disassembling and reassembling the carburetor is half the battle. Now you need to carefully install and configure everything. The hoses are connected without sealant.
