We present to your attention a new development of KAMAZ - the KAMAZ-65805 mining dump truck, which received its own name "Atlant". This is the first of a future line of mining dump trucks from the Kama auto giant. It should be noted that KAMAZ is entering this segment of the truck market for the first time.

Externally, Atlant continues the design line started by KAMAZ in new dump trucks, but differs significantly from its counterparts in length (12 m) and load capacity (60 tons). It is no coincidence that it received the name in honor of the ancient Greek giant - at the moment KAMAZ-65805 is, of course, the largest dump truck created in Naberezhnye Chelny. At the same time, according to the designers, it is the smallest of the future family of mining trucks.

The vehicle was created specifically for transporting rock and ore. At the same time, the dimensions of the vehicle are within the limits allowed for movement on public roads, which significantly simplifies transportation. Typically, mining dump trucks are significantly larger in size than the standards and can only be driven in quarries. Atlant can come to the place of work under his own power and leave it if necessary.

The curb weight of the vehicle is 27 tons, the load capacity is 60 tons. The load on the axles is distributed as follows: 12 tons each on the two front ones and 21 tons each on the three rear ones. The total weight of the KAMAZ-65805 dump truck is 87 tons.

The rear suspension of the dump truck is hydraulic, which made it possible to implement such functions as preventing rollovers, controlling its rigidity and unloading leveling.

Engine and fuel consumption of KamAZ-6580

KamAZ 750.10. A modern domestically produced turbodiesel is distinguished by a V-shaped arrangement of its cylinders, with a working volume of 11.76 liters, and develops a power of 500 horsepower. The engine is equipped with a turbocharging system, intercooler, exhaust gas neutralization technology and electronically controlled Common Rail fuel equipment. The engine is certified to comply with Euro 5 standards.
KamAZ 750.10
KamAZ 910.10 (Euro 5). Inline-six with single-stage turbocharging, battery-type fuel delivery system and on-board diagnostic technology. With a volume of 11.97 liters, this turbodiesel develops a power of 380 horsepower and has a service life of one and a half million kilometers.
Cummins ISG12E5 . A modern turbodiesel produced at one of the Cummins Chinese factories. Configuration - in-line, six-cylinder engine with a turbocharging system and intercooling of charge air. With a displacement of 11.8 liters, the engine develops power of 419 horsepower and maximum torque of 2093 Nm. Cummins ISG12E5 also belongs to a family of engines that have been certified for compliance with Euro 5 requirements.
Mercedes-Benz OM 457LA ( Euro 5). Four-stroke diesel engine with water cooling, turbocharger and full-electronic control system. The engine displacement is 11.97 liters, power – 428 horsepower, declared resource – 1,00,000 kilometers.
The fuel consumption of KamAZ-6580 depends on the installed engine and operating conditions. A dump truck equipped with a Cummins turbodiesel consumes 24 liters of fuel when driving on a paved road at a speed of 55-60 km/h. Fuel consumption rates for dump trucks operating in quarries can vary significantly and reach 40-50 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. In the basic configuration, the dump truck is equipped with a fuel tank with a capacity of 350 liters.
Transmission and power supply KamAZ-6580
A sixteen-speed ZF16S 2220TO gearbox is responsible for transmitting traction from the engine to the drive axles. The manual transmission consists of a main box, a two-stage divider and a multiplier. The box is controlled remotely using a rocker lever. The forward gears are switched through a synchronizer, the rear gears are engaged using a gear clutch. The interaction of the motor and gearbox is carried out using a single-disc diaphragm clutch MFZ 430, equipped with a hydraulic drive and a pneumatic booster.
The vehicle's electrical and electronic devices are powered by two 12-volt batteries with a total capacity of 420 A/h. Since the KamAZ-6580 uses single-shot wiring with a voltage of 24 volts, the vehicle is equipped with an inverter. In addition, the manufacturer took care of installing a 28-volt generator with a capacity of 3 kilowatts.
Brake system and suspension KamAZ-6580
Air brakes of the drum type are responsible for the safety of the truck. Each wheel is equipped with a brake mechanism with a drum diameter of 420 millimeters, while the thickness of the brake pads is 180 mm. By using a “wet” receiver, the designers finally managed to solve the problem of the so-called “thoughtful brake,” when the system responded with some delay after pressing the pedal. Along with the main, auxiliary, backup and parking brakes, the KamAZ-6580 is equipped with an emergency brake release system.
The front bogie of the KamAZ-6580 is based on small-leaf springs, which ensure a smooth ride of the vehicle together with hydraulic shock absorbers of a telescopic type. KamAZ-6580 is the first vehicle of the Kama Automobile Plant that can withstand a load of nine tons on the front bogie. To provide stability, the front suspension is equipped with a lateral stress stabilizer. Each rear axle can withstand a load of up to 16 tons, and there is also a leaf spring suspension.

The truck is designed for transporting rock and ore, and is equipped with a special dump platform, which has an increased thickness of the bottom, walls and sides. There is a powerful protective canopy that completely covers the cabin, protecting the driver from falling rock debris. And a special system for heating the platform with exhaust gases from the engine solved the problem of cargo freezing to the body in winter. The platform's elevation angle is 50 degrees, volume is 26 cubic meters.

Behind the cab, a special ladder is installed on the platform, with the help of which the driver, without going down to the ground, can see the rest of the cargo in the body, or, if necessary, climb into it.
Comfort in the truck cab
Kamaz-65807 has a four-point spring cab without a berth, located above the power unit. There is a voluminous visor on top that protects the driver from falling stones. The cabin was made by the manufacturer itself, but is a licensed copy of the Mercedes-Benz Axor.
The cabin has more interior space and a flat floor. It includes heated air-suspended seats, a multifunction steering wheel, a multimedia system and a heater.
The main instrument cluster is located directly in front of the driver, with a secondary touchscreen display located on the right side. Among the features, it is worth highlighting the engine start button, the electronic handbrake button, the adjustment of electric mirrors, and so on.
Classmates competitors, price comparison
KamAZ-65807, introduced in 2022, is the main and only competitor of BelAZ. Today the Belarusian manufacturer offers four modifications in the heavy equipment class. Between them:
- 7555 (seven modifications) - from 55 to 60 tons.
- 7545 (three modifications) - 45 tons;
- 7544 for 32 tons;
- 7540 30 tons;
- 7547 (three modifications) - from 42 to 45 tons;

Shortly before the release of the new KAMAZ model, representatives of the Belarusian plant turned to government representatives in the Russian Federation with a request to consider the option of assembling BelAZ in Russia. As you can see, the problem not only slowed things down, but also led to the emergence of a real competitor.
Taking into account the above changes, the main competitor of the KamAZ 65807 is the Belaz 7555N. Has a number of disadvantages:

At the same time, the power of the Belaz engine is greater and amounts to 700 horsepower (versus 550 hp). In addition, the length of the dump truck from Belarus is shorter - 8.89 m, which makes it more maneuverable in small areas. Russian developers compensated for the increased length of the rear axle with the ability to turn the wheels while moving the steering wheel.
The price for the Kamaz dump truck has not yet been determined; retail sales have not yet begun. But from circles close to the direction of the manufacturer, information leaked that the course was made at a lower cost than the Belaz 7555, but here a lot depends on the configuration and options ordered.
Flaws
The new mining dump truck is a unique machine that compares favorably with its competitors. Its advantages include high load capacity, good average speed and lower price. In addition, among the advantages it is worth highlighting the best efficiency, the most economical maintenance, and the absence of problems with spare parts and maintenance.
In addition, in quarry conditions, due to the small width, less road preparation costs are required. You can also save on moving vehicles between jobs because there is no need to disassemble the vehicle.
But there are a number of disadvantages that cannot be ignored:
The car is still only a project, so there is no exact launch date for mass production yet. The process may take several months, which will force many companies to pay attention to a competitor like BelAZ.
- Lack of application experience. Real conclusions about the effectiveness of KamAZ-65807 can be drawn after several years of operating the vehicle in real conditions. In the meantime, analysis is possible based on the available technical characteristics.
- Less power. The Russian mining dump truck is equipped with a locally produced 550 horsepower engine. For comparison, Belaz has a Cummins KTTA 19-C power unit with a capacity of 700 horsepower. This difference may be obvious when using the vehicle in difficult road conditions.
- The length of the KAMAZ is 11.04 meters, which increases the requirements for the width of the road surface at the turning point.
As you can see, all the shortcomings of the new dump truck are insignificant. At the same time, the developers are confident that the machine will work well and will quickly gain recognition among mining companies.
