Diagnostics of Knorr-Bremse ABS using light codes (blink codes)
ABS error on the KamAZ dashboard Modern KamAZ vehicles use an anti-lock braking system (ABS). This system helps reduce emergency situations when braking. Next, we will talk in more detail about the operation of the system, malfunctions when the ABS lights up on the instrument panel and care to prevent breakdowns of the braking control system. Here you will get answers to many questions. Read further:

Cummins Engine Installation Mechanisms:
KamAZ engine installation mechanisms:
Before you begin disassembling the relay, you need to do a complete technical diagnosis of the truck device.
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION OF ABS ON KAMAZ
The electronic control unit constantly receives a signal from the wheel speed sensors. When you press the brake pedal, the control unit receives a signal to start the braking process and, through the truck’s CAN bus, sends a signal to the modulator to turn on the solenoid valves that supply air to the brake pads. Air is supplied to the pads not constantly, but in impulses. As a result of this, the wheels do not skid, but rotate periodically. If any of the wheels hits a section of the road surface with a different coefficient of friction, the system regulates the compression of the brake pads, preventing the vehicle from skidding.
Intermittent braking
To avoid negative developments, you can simulate the operation of the ABS when it is turned off. The driver is required to prevent the wheels from locking using an operation called "intermittent braking". Its essence is as follows: you need to independently dose the pressure in the brake system and not allow the pads to grab the wheels sharply.
If you do not press the pedal with constant force, but press it intermittently, then pressing, then releasing, then the car will maintain stability. The wheels will not be able to lock suddenly. The person himself reduces the pressure in the hydraulics and releases the grip of the brakes.
This is exactly what experienced drivers did in winter, who started driving the old VAZ “classic”. Rally race participants drive the same way. Eventually, intermittent braking should become a habit.
Electronic control systems KAMAZ
Recently, engines from the Kama Automobile Plant began to be classified according to their belonging to one or another environmental class (from Euro-0 to Euro-4). The technical implementation of the Euro-3 class, and then Euro-4, adopted in 2013, turned out to be impossible without the use of electronic engine control systems (ECM). This is what led to the opportunity to perform self-diagnosis of the car using KAMAZ universal error codes.
Ecological class Euro-4
Various configurations of KAMAZ trucks began to be equipped with engines with electronic control units (ECU). And if now the driver is concerned about unhealthy behavior during the operation of famous trucks, symptoms appear in the form of floating speed, loss of traction, unusual noises, increased diesel fuel consumption, self-diagnosis comes to the rescue.
Using information output from the ECU in the form of an error code, it is possible to indicate an accurate electrical diagnosis for KAMAZ. The process of diagnosing and deciphering codes depends on the type of electronic system installed on the truck. Before starting diagnostics, it is suggested to determine the type of ECU based on the installed engine model.
Engine Model Table
Self-Diagnostics No matter what company your V8 is made by, Cummins Inc. (Cummins) or KAMAZ LLC, it is equipped with fuel supply systems from Common Rail and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) or neutralization systems (SCR), diagnostics will be carried out in accordance with these two types.
Engine with ECU BOSCH MS 6.1
So, let’s get comfortable in the cabin of our KAMAZ, then turn on the ignition with the usual turn of the key. Along with many other indicators, the diagnostic indicator light or “Check Engine”, or in common parlance, a submarine, lights up. The lamp lights up for 3 seconds and goes out, thereby demonstrating its functionality and the serviceability of the ECM. If the lamp does not go out or lights up while the engine is running, a malfunction has been found in the electronic system!
Diagnostic indicator lamp
Let's pay attention to the diagnostic mode rocker button (often mounted on the instrument panel on the left, under the steering wheel) or the button for this mode (often located next to the fuse box, under the panel opposite the passenger seat). The “rocker” has two extreme positions for holding and a central fixed position.
Lower the rocker to its highest or lowest position and hold it there for more than two seconds. Just press the button and do not release it for the above-mentioned time. After the rocker or button returns back, the diagnostic lamp will flash first in long intervals and then in short ones. The number of long flashes determines the first digit of the error code, the number of short flashes determines the second digit.
Blink Code Alarm Diagram
The diagram shows an example of obtaining code 24. We compare the error code (otherwise blink code, from the English blink - blink) with the table below.
Error codes for the BOSCH MS6.1 ECU of Euro-3 eco-class engines | ||

There are often cases when the ECU has recorded several errors; to view the following code, repeat the above steps with the button or rocker. Error codes will be played cyclically. No more than five faults are recorded in the ECU memory. To delete all errors from the control unit’s memory, you must turn on the ignition and hold the “rocker” for five seconds. Thus, you can briefly rid your car of disturbing symptoms in the form of electronic restrictions.
Engine with ECU ISB CM2150
This type of ECU was installed on later KAMAZ models and the diagnostics in this case will differ from the above diagram. After turning on the ignition, the currently active fault is recorded in the memory of the electronic unit; in addition, the fault can be signaled by a red or yellow diagnostic control lamp.
Yellow and red diagnostic indicator lamps
After pressing the “rocker” in any extreme position for more than two seconds, a fault code will be displayed with a half-second interval between flashes of one of the two lamps. The error code digits are separated by a 2-second pause. Unlike the previous type of ECU, the resulting code will be three or four digits!
We compare the error code with the table below. The color of the rows in the table is correlated with the color of the diagnostic control lamp. The red color of the indication indicates the impossibility of starting or continuing driving with this malfunction; the yellow color indicates the need to eliminate the malfunction after finishing driving the vehicle.

KamAZ Euro 2, 3, 4 and 5 error codes: decoding
Possible problems arise in the urea handling system. The device is capricious and requires careful care. Severe operating conditions on the machine can negatively affect the operation of other components, causing additional problems.
On cars of EURO-2, 3, 4 and 5 class, the error codes are slightly different due to the installation of different equipment.
Error codes for the KamAZ brake system
Drivers complain about the imperfect design of the car. The brake module contains a large number of parts and assemblies that are susceptible to dirt, road agents and small stones.
Also included in the errors are indicators of damage to the parking brake, which is caused by too sudden manipulations by the driver or an attempt to drive with the handbrake held.
Breakdowns are often mechanical, therefore, methods for eliminating them will also be associated with physical troubleshooting.
KamAZ ABS error codes
The module stands out for its reliability, but there are some nuances here. The system periodically suffers from loss of communication with wheel sensors, which is important not only for KamAZ, but also for other vehicles. At the same time, the corresponding indicator on the device lights up.
Such problems occur due to technical design features. The head module of the system is connected to the sensors through wires and contact groups. Elements often become oxidized or damaged, which leads to failures.
Troubleshooting the ABS module usually involves repairing damaged wiring or replacing the sensitive sensor. The control unit is highly reliable and rarely causes failures.
Identify and eliminate the malfunction that causes uneven operation of the KamAZ engine
To search for such a breakdown of the internal combustion engine and its systems, it is recommended to connect an external scanner to the car. The car is equipped with a large number of controllers that keep the motor in a stable position under different loads. If one of the modules in the control system has failed, a lighted check on the dashboard will help determine this. Also in this situation, an uncontrolled decrease in the power of the unit may occur or the internal combustion engine may completely stall.
To determine the location of the fault, the manufacturer provides a special table containing information about popular faults and their encryption.
Energy accumulator malfunctions
Responsible for pressing the brake pads while the main engine of the car is turned off. If there are faults in the module, the corresponding indicator lights up on the dashboard, and during diagnostics the corresponding error appears.
Power steering pump malfunctions
The standard power steering oil valve on a car is durable and rarely fails. For a module to fail, it needs to be purposefully abused or hit a serious bump.
If there are any breakdowns in the device, experienced specialists do not recommend getting into the structure yourself. The unit is technically complex and its repair must be performed by a qualified technician.
KamAZ injection pump malfunctions
If the turbocharger from BOSCH and others breaks down, the “Check Engine” light on the instrument panel lights up. Usually the reasons for failures are the following factors:
- loss of tightness of the working chamber;
- wear of the injection element.
You should contact specialists. Self-repair may result in a complete replacement of the module.
Steering faults
On trucks like 43101, failures of the steering module are caused by physical wear or damage to the control sensors. The steering rack or wheel angle sensors may malfunction due to water or dirt.
Separately check the mechanical part and hydraulic drive of the amplifier.
Radiator malfunctions
Everything here is extremely simple. Errors can only be caused in two cases.
- The DTOZH or its wiring is faulty. Eliminated by replacing the sensor or restoring the power lines.
- Damage to the direct mechanical part of the cooling system. The problem can be removed by sealing gaps in the lines or replacing the broken part.
Malfunctions of KamAZ PSU and method of their elimination
The module represents a special amplifier located on the clutch drive. The device is technically complex, but failures here are predominantly of a mechanical nature.
- If the main cylinder seal wears out, just replace the rubber and get back into action.
- The unit's inlet valve is worn or damaged. Debris that gets into the system can also cause problems. The solution to the problem is to clean the valve or replace it.
- The air recirculator is not working correctly. The module needs to be replaced.
Front axle malfunctions
On classic cars, the front axle does not have a drive. There is only a regular beam with a rotating system and suspension installed on it. In this part of the car, problems can be caused solely by mechanical damage or natural wear and tear.
In modern cars, the design involves the presence of a large number of sensors and sensors. If the module generates an error, examine the sensors for damage.
Rear axle malfunctions
In the rear axle everything is more complicated. If there are problems with the system, it is recommended to contact qualified technicians. It is extremely rare to fix problems on your own.
KamAZ: wheel inflation - malfunctions
Breakdowns in the system occur due to dirt or stones getting in from the road. A flying element can interrupt the pneumatic line or disrupt its connection. If there are problems, the system will give the driver an error or the problem will become obvious when the tire is punctured.
Elimination of the causes of breakdowns and malfunctions in 90% of cases is mechanical in nature.
Chassis malfunctions
Consists of pure mechanics. Drives and gears have a large margin of strength and wear resistance. It is not recommended to climb into the structure yourself. It will be problematic to deal with gears and clutches without special tools and knowledge.
Compressor faults
The element allows you to increase engine power to the required limits. Depending on the turbine failure, problems may manifest themselves as follows:
- The engine power has dropped, the speed is difficult to gain;
- the blower is blowing excessive amounts of air;
- complete system failure;
- The engine speed fluctuates.
This may also be accompanied by the Check light coming on.
If the turbine malfunctions, you should also show the car to a mechanic. If repairs are carried out incorrectly, there is a high probability of the engine being damaged, which can lead to its complete replacement.
Malfunctions of the KamAZ body lift cylinder
The single-cylinder piston in the dump truck versions has a pumping unit and the working cylinder itself. Most often, breakdowns occur in pressure lines and hoses. Repair consists of replacing a damaged part or changing the used fluid.
Due to the presence of a minimal amount of electronics in the mechanism, repairs can be performed independently. Here you will need a standard set of equipment and tools for working with hydraulics.
Clutch faults
The operating principle of the unit on KamAZ 4308 and other modern versions differs from its counterpart in passenger cars. A booster pump is connected to the main cylinder of the hydraulic system. This reduces the pedal load and improves overall drive behavior.
Amplifier failures are described above. Malfunctions associated with the clutch device are similar to conventional machines and can be eliminated in the same way.
Injector malfunctions
The car is predominantly equipped with an 8-cylinder engine. Depending on the configuration and year, the vehicle may be equipped with different ECUs. It will be difficult to determine definitely all the error codes associated with the injectors.
The only thing is certain. If there are faults in the injectors, repair or restoration of the modules is carried out exclusively at service stations.
Speedometer code
On cars in modification 53501, an electronic speed sensor is installed. The part is located on the gearbox housing and transmits a signal to a device in the module. The sensor rarely fails; the cause is damaged wiring or oxidized contacts.
Suspension faults
The suspension system of the machine is made in a two or three bridge version. Part of the front suspension is carried out separately. Due to the simplicity of the device and the minimal amount of electronics, breakdowns here are predominantly of a mechanical type and can be eliminated by simply replacing the damaged element.
There are more bells and whistles for the rear of the car. One or two drive axles are installed on the frame. The design elements are also quite simple, but here repairs are more difficult for a trivial reason - disassembling the rear part of the machine is technically more difficult.
Electric coupling malfunctions
Typical breakdowns are wiring failures, oxidation of contact groups, and failure of the coupling itself is also relevant here.
If such problems occur, experienced specialists advise contacting a qualified electrician.
Malfunctions of hydraulic coupling 3
Until the last generation, the machine used an element to transmit torque to the main radiator fan. If a device is found to be damaged, it should be replaced entirely.
The manufacturer does not recommend repairing the unit.
Malfunctions and maintenance of the KamAZ gearbox
Standard units are predominantly mechanical, without additional bells and whistles. The gearbox unit is combined with the transfer case and is a complex unit. On models like 4310, if there are problems with the manual transmission or automatic transmission, it is recommended not to interfere with the design of the units yourself. This will require a skilled specialist and special tools.
Electrical errors
Diagnostics of this part of the car is the most labor-intensive. The abundance of sensors and sensitive elements that control the operation of components creates enormous difficulties for motorists. Faults are displayed on the diagnostic scanner and require immediate repair.
Divider errors
The gearbox element system is characterized by increased reliability. Troubleshooting is similar to common transmission problems.
Errors in the KamAZ cooling system
The only element capable of producing “whims” is the DTOZH. The sensor is usually located at the top of the head radiator and can oxidize if exposed to water or dirt. Also, oxidized contact groups can be the cause of malfunction.
Repair is carried out by restoring the wiring or completely replacing the sensor.
Air System Errors
Problems include worn or damaged filters. Also, air brake modules suffer from frequent malfunctions in air dryers.
The repairs here are quite simple and can be done with your own hands.
Fuel system errors
The main problem for domestic drivers is the presence of water in the fuel. This is caused by low-grade fuel at local gas stations. In the cold season, the problem can be overcooling of diesel fuel with waxing of filters and all the ensuing consequences.
Troubles can also be caused by parasitic air suction into the line, through leaky seals or cracks. This can directly affect the leanness of the mixture.
Heat exchanger errors
Some internal combustion engine designs use heat exchangers, where the oil is cooled by passing it through a circuit running next to the cooling system.
In this module, electronic errors are excluded due to the complete absence of electronics. The main problem is damage to the rubber gasket that holds the two circuits apart from each other. The problem is solved by simply replacing the worn rubber band.
Center differential malfunctions
The machine can use two schemes - with forced or self-locking. The unit belongs to the chassis system and its repair is carried out only in specialized workshops.
Relay Valve Errors
The element is part of the injection pump; if there is a breakdown in the system, you should contact a qualified specialist. Without the proper knowledge and tools, it is extremely difficult to repair a unit in the field or in a simple garage.
Air pressure regulator errors
The system controls the amount of gases entering the intake manifold. If the sensors are damaged, the flow is not regulated and is supplied in its entire volume, which can cause the motor to malfunction.
Two sensors are responsible for the main control - the mass air flow sensor and the regulator itself. If the scanner generates an error for these systems, you should check the wiring of the elements or replace them with serviceable ones.
Power system malfunctions
There may be one or more problems.
- Damage to the power line from the battery or generator. The head cable may need to be repaired or replaced, depending on the extent of the damage.
- Failure of the battery itself or the generator set. In these cases, only a complete replacement will help. The GE can also be sent for overhaul. Experienced craftsmen restore damaged parts of the generator and the device takes care of it for a long time.
- Burnout of relays, fuses or other elements of control, low-current systems. Everything is simple here. The damaged part is replaced and that’s it. Elements of low-current mains cannot be restored.
Malfunctions of the KamAZ neutralization system
In gasoline versions of cars in recent years, catalytic exhaust converters are installed. They are monitored by two oxygen sensors: DK1 and DK2. If the system notices a critical decrease in the efficiency of the neutralizer, the ECU will issue a specific signal.
If the catalyst becomes clogged, it must be replaced. Cutting out the module and reflashing the brains will not work here; passing the inspection to cross the border will reveal this and will not allow the car to pass environmental standards.
Malfunctions of the heater switch button
In this situation, repairs are primitive. A similar switch is purchased at any auto store and installed in place of the damaged one.
The tachometer on KamAZ does not work: the cause of the malfunction
A car speed measuring device essentially has only two elements.
- DPKV - reduces engine speed.
- Directly the device on the panel in the cabin.
The parts are connected by wires and power lines. If the tachometer fails or shows incorrect data, check the sensor and its wiring. In exceptional situations, the device is changed on the board in the cabin.
Starter malfunctions
The system on KamAZ is no different from other vehicles. Here the problem may be damage to the retractor, wear of the brushes or the voltage regulator.
Errors related to the startup installation should only be corrected at a service center.
Active fault VCU KamAZ
If the unit has a persistent error, you can try resetting it by disconnecting the battery. If this does not help, the module is dismantled and replaced entirely.
Sensor power failure
The circuits are routed to a separate line on the car. If the power goes out, the first thing you need to do is check the fuse. When it is operational, the line is further diagnosed until the breakdown is eliminated.
KamAZ spring malfunctions
The system can be damaged only in case of severe overload or driving over serious potholes. If a spring has burst, it will be noticeable visually. In this case, electronic parts and sensors are useless.
Lubrication system malfunctions
The main problem is damage to the pump that pumps oil through the lines. The working part usually wears out and the pressure in the system drops to a minimum.
Charging on KamAZ disappeared: reasons for the error
There may be two reasons.
- There are problems in the generator or power wires.
- The second option is a failure of the charging relay.
The lines and structural elements are checked by a tester and replaced if damaged.
KamAZ 14 boiler errors
The autonomous system on a car is installed in front of the radiator and is responsible for heating the fuel line or the passenger compartment. Errors may be due to misfires, or lack of signal from the device.
If a breakdown is detected, the system should be checked immediately. Operating the module in this condition may result in a fire.
KamAZ malfunctions in which operation is prohibited
As with most cars, driving is prohibited if errors are accompanied by the Check Light on the dashboard. This also includes breakdowns of the brake system, transmission or chassis problems.
Error SA 0 Engine KamAZ

KamAZ ABS error codes: diagnostics, how to fix the fault
The operating principle of the system is based on measuring and comparing wheel speed and generating a command to control the brake elements based on signals from the ECU. The output signal is generated in the event of data on different wheel speeds and affects the modulators, which ensures stability and controllability of the truck during braking.
Scheme
Most often, KamAZ uses an ABS scheme built on the principle of 4 sensors and 4 modulators. This makes it possible to act on the braking elements of all wheels. The rear bogie modulators control the wheel brakes on one side of the middle and rear axles. At the same time, they increase and maintain pressure in the brake chambers, and, if necessary, release it.
When one front wheel is locked, the system changes the pressure in the front brake chamber of the other in steps. During braking mode, the engine brake is activated. When skidding, it is disabled, but if the solenoid valve wire breaks, it can negatively affect both the operation of the ABS and the braking mode.
How to install
Installation of ABS on KamAZ is carried out only in specialized workshops that have permission for this type of activity. Independent intervention in the design of the brake system is strictly prohibited.
How to disable
The easiest way to disable the anti-lock braking system is to remove the fuses or disconnect the sensor connectors. However, this is not recommended due to the fact that a functioning system reduces the braking distance and prevents the car from skidding.
Based on how the anti-lock braking system is designed, we can easily conclude that the lamp can be on for the following reasons:
All of the above can lead to the ABS light coming on when the car is moving. For example, vibrations caused by an uneven road very often lead to a break in the wiring. When driving on bad roads or where there are no roads at all, the sensors may become covered with dirt and sand.
This will not allow them to transmit the correct information to the electronic unit and will cause the light to remain on.
How to diagnose yourself?
Many drivers are afraid to diagnose KamAZ 43253 Euro 4 with their own hands. There is nothing complicated in this procedure and it is carried out quite simply.
Each electronic unit model uses its own error marking. It is necessary to perform self-diagnosis on KamAZ 65115 Cummins Euro-4 and obtain error codes for each ECU for further decoding.
On vehicles with a Bosch ECU, self-diagnosis of KamAZ 43118 Euro-4 occurs as follows:
Location of the "Check" button
You don’t need anything else to independently diagnose a car, but at specialized service stations, a special scanner is used to speed up diagnostics.
The following video offers a description of how to get the error after pressing “Check” on a KamAZ Euro-4. Video taken from Sascha Lobetskyy channel.
Purpose of the anti-lock braking system
ABS is installed on many KamAZ models for better control of the braking system (on such trucks it is pneumatic). KamAZ trucks have different types of braking: service, parking, spare, auxiliary braking, emergency brake release. The anti-lock braking system prevents the wheels from locking when braking, which improves controllability, avoids skidding, and stopping the car becomes smoother. Also, the presence of ABS is important to increase the average safe speed at different clutches.
Let's sum it up
As you can see, the ABS system is not particularly complex in terms of design, but it performs important functions and directly affects safety. For this reason, it is recommended to carry out preventive diagnostics of ABS, as well as eliminate any failures and malfunctions of the system if the slightest sign of trouble occurs.
Why do the brakes on your car squeak, you can hear the brakes grinding, whistling or squeaking when braking: the main reasons. Brake pads squeak, what should the driver do?
ABS is a specially designed system that sits above the car's braking system and controls its operation. The main function of the ABS system is for the driver to perform optimal braking, without the vehicle going into a skid, despite any unfavorable factors. Therefore, all new cars are equipped with this system, and if there is any brake malfunction, the ABS on the dashboard immediately starts to light up. What can cause problems in the braking system to which ABS responds? Let's look at this issue.
When does the ABS light come on?
A working ABS indication is activated on any vehicle when the ignition is turned on. This is a normal situation, indicating that the electronic “brain” of the car is performing diagnostics, demonstrating to the car owner that the system is operational. Then, within a few seconds, the indicator should go off. If this does not happen, or the ABS light suddenly comes on while driving, it means that there are some problems with the brakes that require an immediate solution.
However, there are cases when the electronics themselves that control braking fail, so you need to look in this direction when looking for the reason for the indicator to turn on. Specific reasons why the ABS light is on:
Eliminating other causes of the ABS light signal
Elimination of loose contacts is carried out by checking them one by one. In this case, the four connectors of the ABS system are located directly behind the brake discs of the wheels, next to the system sensors. The fifth contact is located in the engine compartment, it will not be difficult to find it, focus on the vacuum brake booster.
Repair, in this case, consists of disconnecting and cleaning each of the contacts. After connecting the cleaned contacts, it is necessary to check the operation of the ABS system. If, while driving, the light does not light up, then the cause of the malfunction has been eliminated.
On cars equipped with on-board computers, all errors are not only highlighted on the indicators, but are also recorded by the computer itself, which displays them in the form of a code. You can find out why the ABS light is on in your car using this code by finding its meaning on the Internet.
So, let's summarize. If, while driving your car, the ABS light sometimes comes on or simply does not turn off, and you are unable to resolve this malfunction yourself using the recommendations given, then be sure to contact a car service center. Don't wait for your car's brakes to fail while driving on a busy highway.
The ABS system plays a special role in the operation of the entire vehicle, as it is responsible for safety while driving. Many drivers, without knowing it, use the braking system in the wrong way. As a result, the operation of the ABS system is disrupted, which leads to an accident. Most often, drivers face this problem in winter.
Due to slippery roads, the driver constantly brakes when the car skids. In order to understand the problem when the abs light comes on and what to do in this case, you first need to know how this whole system works.
Features of control of KamAZ vehicles equipped with ABS
Drivers driving a car with ABS mistakenly believe that such a system can improve traction, but this is not the case. Due to the fact that the wheels do not lock, controllability is increased and situations where the trajectory of movement can change sharply are prevented.
ABS can eliminate some potentially dangerous moments during braking and reduces the braking distance, but in general, vehicle control remains the same as without an anti-lock braking system.
Almost the only rule of operation is the prohibition of using intermittent braking: the brake pedal must be pressed as hard as possible, all the way. Otherwise, the operation of the ABS may become incorrect and the motion sensors will not respond properly.
How to diagnose faults on a KAMAZ truck?
IBLOCK_SECTION_ID] => [DETAIL_TEXT] => The KAMAZ 5490 tractor belongs to the main truck type of vehicle. A German-made power unit is installed on board the truck. The Mercedes-Benz engine is capable of producing about 428 hp. With. The injection system with a PLD fuel mechanism ensures the efficiency of the engine. For 100 km of travel, the KAMAZ 5490 engine consumes about 33 liters of diesel fuel. The power unit installed in the car meets the requirements of the Euro 5 eco-standard. A characteristic feature is a comfortable European-style cabin, best suited for long journeys along highways: rubber mats on the floor, soft seats, refrigerator. For driver convenience, an electronic instrument panel with a touch screen is provided. Electrics of KAMAZ 54901 operate under a voltage of 24 V. According to current legislation, the KAMAZ 740 engine number is indicated on the wall of the cylinder block on the left side in the direction of travel. The markings on the power unit are not repeated. Information about the base engine code, version, year of manufacture, as well as the serial number is indicated here. The data is entered in two lines in a percussive manner for the highest quality punching of numbers. The central control unit with electrical equipment based on the CBCU3-E24L forms the basis of the multiplex architecture of the tractor. The task of the component is to control the electrical equipment of the machine. The task of the control unit is to prepare and process information for display. Thanks to the location of the controls for the KAMAZ 5490 truck tractor, it is possible to diagnose a problem right inside the truck cab. Control devices sensitively monitor the condition of the vehicle's mechanisms. If a fault is detected, a corresponding message is displayed on the display.
How should an ABS lamp work?
Consists of several functional blocks. This will help you more easily and quickly figure out the problem that is causing the indicator to light up.
The system consists of rotation sensors - there can be two, three or four of them. The system also includes an electronic module or control unit. In addition, the device has a self-diagnosis module and a light indicator on the dashboard.
If immediately after the start or while driving, then this indicates that the anti-lock braking system is disabled. Many drivers mistakenly think that when the light is on there are some problems with the operation of the brake system. This is wrong. The brake system has a separate diagnostic module and indicator. But this only applies to modern cars with good equipment.
In the first few seconds after starting the engine, all the lamps and indicators on the instrument panel light up. If the ABS indicator does not light up when starting, it means there is some kind of malfunction in the system.
Error codes for engines with ECU ISB CM2150
This is a newer control unit than BOSCH MS 6.1; it is the ISB CM2150 system that is installed on new car engines from Naberezhnye Chelny. These cars are equipped with two “Check” indicators - yellow and red. If the error light is yellow, this means that the car can be driven, but if the light turns red, then your problem does not allow for the possibility of independent movement.
This system has three-digit or four-digit error codes. But they are obtained in the same way as in the previous case.
The following are the error codes for this ECU:
The above-described method of receiving errors is called the method using blink codes (taking data from blinking “Check” signaling devices). More detailed data can be obtained using computer equipment. There, error codes are displayed on the screen in the format “SPN number, FMI number”.
A list of errors and malfunctions in this format, there are many more of them than when diagnosing using blink codes:
Sometimes on forums you can come across a question about what kind of error is SPN 791, SPN 520211 or SPN 4335. In the list of errors for KamAZ 65117, or KamAZ Euro 4 Cummins 4336, and other models, there are no such codes. The reason for their appearance may lie in the fact that drivers incorrectly removed data from the ECU or the truck has some kind of non-serial electronic system.
Features of braking on vehicles with ABS
You can forget about intermittent, smooth braking. The driver does not need to constantly monitor wheel traction. The brake pedal must be pressed not weakly, without sparing any effort. In this case, there is no need to use the motor part. The installation prefers to work independently. In an emergency braking situation, we have to talk about simultaneously pressing the brake and clutch pedals. It is important to disconnect the engine from the transmission. You shouldn't place high hopes on electronics.
ABS – harm or benefit?
For me personally, ABS is definitely a benefit. I got used to it and feel safer than without it.
While conducting an experiment when braking without ABS, I again felt the already forgotten feeling of skidding, which was always there when driving my first cars that did not have this system. Again I remembered that it is necessary to control the pressing of the brake pedal so that the car goes where the wheels are turned and actively work with the steering wheel, leveling the car on the road. No, I don’t want to, I’m out of the habit of it...
If we really exaggerate and choose the lesser of two evils, then it’s better to drive into someone’s backside than to fly into oncoming traffic. God forbid, of course, not one or the other.
Malfunctions and repairs
ABS has a built-in self-diagnosis function. It is turned on by turning the ignition switch to position “I”. In this mode, the functionality of sensors, blocks, connections and system elements is checked. The signal is removed when the car reaches a speed of 7-10 km/h. If it continues to light, then the test is carried out in the forced ABS diagnostic mode.
Error codes
If an inoperative element appears, the warning lamp lights up and the system generates error codes. The defective element is determined by the number of flashes of the indicator. In the forced diagnostic mode, the ECU first displays the last 4 errors that remain in the device’s memory once. The meaning of the code is determined using special tables. For example, the resulting value 2-1 corresponds to a malfunction of modulator B, characterized by a short to ground. The codes remain in the ECU memory.
First error code | Second error code | Troubleshooting Methods |
1 - No mistakes | 1 - No mistakes | The system is fully operational |
2 – ABS modulator | 1 – Front right 2 – Front left 3 – Rear right 4 – Rear left | Check the wires to the modulator. There is an intermittent or permanent break in the wires to the intake, exhaust valves or the “common” wire, or a short to negative. |

ABS lights up: what should the driver do?
Having studied the possible causes, let's move on to what to do if the ABS is on. As already mentioned, you can first try to reset the errors by removing the terminal from the battery.
If the driver finds himself in a situation where the ABS lights up while driving, but at the moment, for one reason or another, it is not possible to carry out computer diagnostics, you can try to activate the system as follows:
In some cases, it happens that after these actions the ABS light goes out, that is, the anti-lock braking system is active again. If this does not help, it means that the problem is not an electronic failure, there are more serious faults.
As practice shows, the blocks are quite reliable and often the culprit is the ABS sensor on a certain wheel. Taking into account the fact that on many cars these sensors are constantly dirty, salts and reagents get on them, ABS sensors in an aggressive environment literally rot and collapse after 3-5 years of active use of the car. The solution is to clean the ABS sensor, attempt repairs, or completely replace it.
If the ABS light comes on for a while and goes out while driving, you should inspect the wire connections, the wires themselves, and the contacts. Let’s also add that if after repair the ABS sensor lights up, it often happens that the technicians simply forget to connect the ABS sensor. At the same time, you should check how well the wheel is installed, since for this reason the sensor may transmit incorrect data to the block.
Finally, we note that the most serious problem that causes the ABS sensor to light up on the instrument panel is the failure of the ABS module itself. Both a software failure and damage to the control unit itself can occur. In this case, in-depth specialized diagnostics, repair or replacement of the electronic module is required.
How to reset errors on KamAZ Euro 4
Quite often, a situation occurs when, during diagnostics, you consider that the breakdown is insignificant and no repairs are required yet, since it does not affect the operation. However, its presence imposes some restrictions on the operation of the car: it may not start, or the engine speed may be limited.
In this case, you need to reset the “Check”, that is, bypass the electronic lock. There are many ways, but the most common and simplest is to remove the battery terminal. In most cases it will help, but if not, there is still an opportunity to short-circuit your car's circuit. In this case, the fuse will blow, but after replacing it, the check should go out and all restrictions should be bypassed.
How to avoid breakdown
Like any other important component of a truck, ABS requires timely diagnostics. It can be done using a special program that shows how this or that part of the system works.
ABS does not require special maintenance; it is checked during scheduled maintenance of the brake system. What should be the preventative measures to help prevent breakdowns? Do not use impulsive braking, especially on slippery roads. Also, the brake pedal should be pressed quite firmly, but without a sharp jerk.
Self-turning off the light bulb
Sometimes the functioning of the ABS system goes wrong and in this case there is no need to contact technical service for help. There is a simple way to do this. You need to accelerate on a flat section of the road at increased speed, and then brake sharply. Sometimes this procedure helps restore a faulty system and the light stops lighting up.
If this does not help, then only experts can come to the rescue, who will diagnose the system on a special computer and draw an accurate conclusion as to why the ABS light comes on. You cannot spare money on such a service, since the life safety of not only the driver, but also the passengers who may be in the car depends on it.
Novice drivers are often frightened by the various lights that suddenly light up on the dashboard of modern cars. If ABS, then there is no need to panic. The problem is not the most serious; eliminating it will not require large financial investments.
How to change oil
The oil change should depend on the maintenance frequency. Before you start changing the oil fluid, you need to warm up the engine for 10-15 minutes. After this, you should wait until the power unit cools down. Before the procedure, you need to prepare a container to drain the old liquid.
To drain old oil, you must:
When draining the old working fluid, it is recommended to inspect it for the presence of various impurities. This will help determine whether the engine needs to be flushed.
How much does repair and replacement cost?
Depending on which part of the ABS is broken, the price of the repair service will differ. If an ABS unit breaks down, it can be repaired in Moscow at a cost of 5 thousand rubles. Replacing a unit costs from 4,000, and replacing each sensor will cost from 800 rubles. Repair of camshaft and crankshaft sensors will be more expensive - from 1,300 rubles.
Defects in the operation of sensors can be eliminated without replacement - the cost of repairs starts from 1,300 rubles. The cost of repairs includes diagnostics and installation; in case of replacement, these parameters are discussed separately.
Have you used a KamAZ with ABS? Do you consider such an innovation necessary?
Service station services
If nothing helps and the ABS light is still on on the panel, you need to use the services of specialists from specialized service centers.
This will cost you much more than in the case of self-diagnosis and repair. However, sometimes this is the only true path. Experienced craftsmen will help you find the source of the problems, determine further tactics and budget for future repairs. Competent diagnosticians will perform tests and detect errors in the operation of the anti-lock braking system, if any.
Thus, in a short period of time, with the help of scanners and specialized devices, you can collect all the important information about the condition of the main components of the vehicle, find errors that will help determine the breakdown as accurately as possible.
