Difficulties in operating gas equipment on a diesel engine

There are only three reasons:

  • The auto-ignition temperature of diesel is 380 - 390 degrees Celsius, but gas (be it methane or propane) is about 700 degrees
  • Accordingly, gaseous fuel must be ignited. But there are no spark plugs in a diesel engine!
  • The octane rating of pure diesel is less than that of gas, 50 - 60 versus 110 - 120 units. To prevent the engine from going into overdrive, you need to reduce either the octane number or the compression ratio

As you can see, the implementation is quite complex, but at the moment only two solutions have been found that allow the use of gas on a diesel unit.
