They can be easily distinguished even just by their appearance. The first version has the full designation 95XF on the right side of the cabin, while the second has only the letter XF left, and it is already on the left. The radiator grille of the first version was completely straight, while the newer one has a slightly beveled lower part.

The side deflectors of the older car had an elongated shape, while on the successor they became shorter, but due to the optimal aerodynamic shape they were more efficient - not only the door handles, but also the side windows were no longer dirty. Changes have occurred in the headlights: they have become narrower. An additional opening was made in the plastic lining of the headlight to improve the airflow of the lower stage.

There are no less internal differences. Firstly, this is a completely new chassis. Modernized diesel engines that meet Euro-3 standards began to be installed on it, instead of the previous Euro-2. The maximum torque was increased by 50 Nm, which is especially useful for carriers who regularly operate this equipment in areas with hilly and mountainous terrain.

The same applies to international and intercity transport: when driving on flat terrain and smooth asphalt, consumption will not exceed 32 l/100 km (4x2 tractor with 20 tons of cargo). Most DAF cars in Russia have a classic 4x2 wheel arrangement. If the driving speed is not very high, for example in mountainous areas, a car with a high-speed gearbox will be extremely uncomfortable, which will negatively affect fuel consumption. The value may increase by 5l/100km. In this case, it will be much more effective to use a gearbox with a gear ratio of 3.31 or 3.73. However, this option will also be expensive if such a tractor is used on highways.

Tachograph calibration

In addition to monitoring the driver’s work and rest schedules, the tachograph plays an important role in calculating the distance traveled by the vehicle. When installing tires of a different size, or excessive wear on old wheels, the distance traveled may be displayed with a very large error, which in turn can greatly affect the estimated fuel consumption. Practice shows that more than half of all cars are operated with an incorrectly calibrated tachograph, while about 15% have a very large error. Despite the numerous promises of many gas stations about the high quality of fuel, in most cases, it leaves much to be desired. Driving style

Modern diesel engines have a clear boundary between economical and uneconomical operating modes. These modes depend on the speed at which the movement occurs. Frequently operating the engine at speeds beyond the green zone on the tachometer will lead to a significant increase in fuel consumption. For the same reason, automatic transmissions on DAF vehicles can often reduce fuel consumption only through the correct selection of the required gear.


General rule: the highest gear, 16th, is the most economical. The more often a car drives in a given gear and shifts less frequently, the lower the fuel consumption. It is to ensure this rule that the correct choice of gear ratio of the rear axle gearbox is so important.

In addition, engine power also plays an important role: more powerful engines allow you to use higher gear more often, thereby helping to reduce fuel consumption.

It is also worth considering factors such as speed limiter settings and use of cruise control: driving at speeds below the standard 90 km/h using cruise control will reduce the need to visit gas stations. And reducing the limiter to 85 km/h will lead to a reduction in consumption by 2 l/100 km

Modifications

The car brands in question are two almost completely identical cars, visually similar to each other.

Winter, having exhausted all its “administrative resources” with snow and cold, did not create any problems for the DAF XF105.410 truck tractor, which the Avtopark magazine has been monitoring since April last year. Closer to spring, the operator decided to change the engine settings to increase power. What this upgrade gave the carrier is described in today's report.

Meeting our ward in the park turned out to be quite a difficult task: having barely returned from Novosibirsk, the hitch was preparing to be loaded into Omsk. For a carrier, this mode of operation is the norm. The main niche of the Vesta company is the transportation of everyday goods, and mileage in winter is no less than in summer - the same 15 thousand km monthly. Today, the truck’s odometer shows 162 thousand km; additional confirmation of these figures is provided by satellite monitoring data, which dispatchers check with daily.

The third quarter of our observations in terms of operating costs did not bring anything unexpected. When the mileage exceeded 150 thousand km, our client visited the service station of an official DAF dealer to undergo regular maintenance. Recently, he has been increasingly using the services of the DAF technical center in Tolyatti. There are two reasons: firstly, the convenient location (large company warehouses are located near Samara, the city is considered a hub), and secondly, regional prices, which are significantly inferior to Moscow. For example, the last invoice for the entire scope of work on TO-3 (150,000 km), including oil and filter changes, was issued in the amount of 11,000 rubles. It is worth making a reservation here that some consumables (for example, a dryer filter) were not included in this amount, since the driver brought them with him. In general, the company tries to operate according to the following scheme: purchase all filters and consumables from a dealer in bulk (for example, through the Intertransservice online store), store them in a warehouse and issue them as needed. Now about the engine settings. Initially, the maximum power of the power unit was limited to 410 hp. s., but the few months that have passed since the start of operation have shown that the truck is too weak for an assault on the Ural Mountains. Considering the capabilities inherent in the engine control unit, the operator decided to add another 50 hp to the original level. With. No amateur performances! All electronic upgrades were carried out by specialists at the DAF branded service station, the warranty is maintained. The costs for one car amounted to 10,000 rubles. The price is wholesale, since the agreement provides for the reconfiguration of all 410-horsepower DAFs in the operator’s fleet.

So, according to the driver, the car has become more dynamic, “with a load of 20 tons, it rushes up the mountain as if empty.” On the other hand, there is a deterioration in efficiency, especially when running empty. However, this did not affect the fuel consumption rate; according to the winter standard, diesel fuel is written off at the rate of 33 l/100 km. Our ward has not yet gone beyond the established limits, but some of his colleagues, who immediately put forward an “ultimatum” on fuel, had to return the original engine settings.
