Company DAF Trucks updated its line of trucks, and in two stages. In the summer of this year, vehicles intended for long-haul transportation were presented, in the fall - for the construction sector, and along with them - delivery trucks.
Following DAF's own Transport Efficiency concept, the company focused special attention when developing new trucks on the fuel efficiency of the engines, which have been significantly modernized. As a result, it was possible to achieve a reduction in fuel consumption by 7%.
Thus, the air management system of the PACCAR MX engines has been improved with a new and even more efficient turbocharger, a new EGR system and a new valve actuator design. Thermal efficiency is improved through the development of a new combustion process, including new pistons, injectors and fuel injection technology, as well as a higher compression ratio.
To ensure minimum fuel consumption, new high-efficiency oil and steering pumps and variable speed cooling systems are used to ensure high mechanical efficiency.
In addition, when developing new power units, attention was focused on reducing engine speeds for better fuel efficiency. For operation at lower speeds, the maximum torque of the PACCAR MX-11 and MX-13 engines is significantly increased and is available as low as 900 rpm. The flagship model is the PACCAR MX-13 engine with 530 hp. s., providing 2600 Nm at 1000 rpm.
The PACCAR Engine Brake has also been optimized. The maximum braking force of the PACCAR MX-11 engine has increased to 340 kW. Braking force is increased by 20% in the range of 1000–1500 rpm. The maximum braking force of the MX-13 engine is no less than 360 kW. In addition, in the important range of 1200–1500 rpm, braking force is increased by 30%.
For the new CF and XF, a completely new compact exhaust after-treatment system (EAS) has been developed, which guarantees more space on the chassis, for example for larger fuel tanks, compressors, tool boxes or crane supports.
Advanced substrate manufacturing technology reduces the overall volume of the EAS block by 40%. This performance is achieved without compromising backpressure, soot removal frequency or DeNOx system efficiency. The compact nature of EAS units also means that a number of specialist applications no longer require the DeNOx catalytic converter and particulate filter to be installed separately.
Another advantage of the new compact EAS unit is its reduced weight by approximately 50 kg. Thanks to a number of additional measures, including engine and chassis weight optimization, the curb weight of the new CF and XF has been reduced by a total of 100 kg.
The new CF and XF feature a completely new electrical and electronic configuration. This involves the installation of a new vehicle control unit designed to integrate the powertrain with advanced EcoRoll and cruise control functions such as dynamic cruise control. This new feature allows you to adapt cruise control to different driving conditions.
The new CF and XF come standard with the latest generation of TraXon automated transmissions: standard 12-speed and optional 16-speed. Fewer friction losses, even faster gear changes and enhanced EcoRoll functionality combine to ensure low fuel consumption, while driver comfort is enhanced by smooth, quiet operation and precise clutch response. The increased range of transmission ratios ensures proper maneuverability even with faster power units.
Thanks to further development of the rear axles, it is possible to use a GP gear ratio of only 2.05 when driving at a constant average speed of 85 km/h already at 1000–1040 rpm (depending on the technical characteristics of the power unit). The new generation rear axle differentials feature a completely new drive and driven gear design, guaranteeing maximum durability and efficiency, as well as extremely low noise levels.
The use of low viscosity oil and reduced oil volume in the rear axles allows for both improved fuel efficiency and the use of low friction wheel bearings.
To achieve minimum fuel consumption, the vehicle's aerodynamics have been improved with a new sun visor for the CF and XF. In addition, the new XF features widened wheel wells and airflow guides behind the grille for optimal aerodynamics throughout the truck, including the engine compartment. New grille shutters reduce drag, while new plugs between the cab and chassis allow for better aerodynamics.
The new CF and XF went into production in the summer of 2017 in the following configurations: 4x2 tractor and chassis, 6x2 FTG tractor with non-driven tag axle and new lightweight suspension (-29 kg), FTP with non-driven tag axles with 18 rims ″ as well as a 6×2 chassis with a trailing axle with single wheels (FAR).
The interior of the cabins features new “warm” shades for the design of the dashboard, seats, curtains, mattresses, as well as the rear and side walls of the cabin, which give the cabin comfort and attractiveness. All this should please even the most demanding driver.
The Driver Information Panel (DIP) functionality has been expanded to include a tachograph counter displaying remaining travel time and rest time. Equally important are the MUX switches, which the driver can position on the dashboard as desired.
The new DAF CF and XF feature an all-new, easy-to-use automatic climate control (HVAC) system that delivers the most efficient fuel consumption as the intelligent air conditioning system uses less energy to cool the air exactly to the right temperature. In addition, the new fully automatic HVAC system uses residual heat from the engine to heat the cabin during stops and at night.
The top version of the line will be the Exclusive version, available for both the new CF and XF. It is distinguished by leather seats, instrument and door panels (XF) in a dark brown "cognac" shade, as well as stylish and bright air vents. A leather steering wheel is standard on the CF and on the XF Exclusive.
Service intervals for the new DAF CF and XF can be extended from 150,000 km to 200,000 km. Despite its compact size, the EAS unit has a soot removal cycle of up to 500,000 km, which also guarantees maximum uptime.
Available as an option is DAF Connect, an innovative fleet management system that provides transport operators with real-time information on vehicle and driver performance.
DAF XF 480 FT truck tractor with the regional DAF C F 450 FT , we did not find much difference, except that in the flagship we felt fewer gear changes in the robotic gearbox and better dynamics of reaching cruising speed. Power still matters. Of course, sitting in the XF cabin is much more comfortable, however, both cars demonstrated an excellent level of indicators such as the ergonomics of the driver’s workplace and driving safety. I was pleasantly surprised by the low noise level in the cabins
Designed for maximum driver comfort
The Daf XF105 modification 460 is equipped with the MX ATe EcoDrive engine, which is not only distinguished by high power, but also meets strict environmental safety requirements. The engine power is 460 horsepower at 1500 – 1900 rpm. The engine capacity is 12.9 liters and is characterized by economical fuel consumption. The automatic shutdown system operates within 5 minutes when the vehicle is idling.
Engine
The DAF XF105 is equipped with PACCAR power units of various capacities. A fundamentally new MX 300 engine was developed for this model. Thanks to the use of innovative SCR technology, the level of harmful emissions was significantly reduced. The Dutch manufacturer claims that the engines of the PACCAR family meet the most stringent standards in terms of durability, efficiency and reliability.
The service interval of a truck power plant when using synthetics is 150,000 km, when using mineral oils - 90,000 km. In Russian conditions, this figure is reduced to 60,000 km. The advanced unit ensures smooth running and the necessary power indicators. An optimized injection system, a unique exhaust manifold (fully isolated) and new pistons significantly reduce fuel consumption.
The engine has 6 cylinders arranged vertically and is turbocharged.
Truck cab
As for the daf cf cab, the manufacturer offers models with three options for its design - Space with a 2-meter height, as well as day and regular, that is, mainline. Having several options allows you to make the most informed choice. The buyer has the opportunity to order a cabin with or without comfortable sleeping places, that is, for long and short trips. The cabin of the daf cf model range has a rather modest interior design, but at the same time it is quite spacious inside. At the same time, the technical description of the vehicle notes the attractiveness of the DAF truck’s interior, ergonomics and excellent visibility from the cab.
Drivers highlight such advantageous features of the DAF CF cab as the convenience of the steering wheel, which is characterized by the most comfortable tilt adjustment. Even the longest trip will not bring any inconvenience, since the cabin is equipped with anatomical seats with full adjustment. They are equipped with pneumatics, unique seat belt settings, and also have head restraints. All this ensures high levels of comfort. Another advantage is the presence of a large windshield and side glass in the daf cab. Being in the driver's seat, you can easily reach the most important buttons that take part in the control process. For long trips, the daf truck offers unique features that provide comfort and ease of operation.

Features and operation
The service interval for the DAF XF 105 is 150,000 km when using synthetics, 90,000 km when running on mineral oil.
A new car has a 1-year warranty (without mileage limitation), and a 2-year warranty for the rear axle, transmission and unit. The chassis of the truck in question has the following parameters:
- wheelbase size, m – 3.8;
- rear overhang size, m – 0.99 m;
- spar: height, mm – 260; thickness, mm – 6 mm;
- fuel tank capacity, l – 850;
- AdBlue tank capacity, l – 100.
Despite the fact that the internal reinforcement of the side members is completely absent, the truck can easily transfer loads on the axles and other load-bearing structures of the body, even if they exceed the nominal ones by 5-10%.
This is possible thanks to the high-strength alloy steel used to manufacture these chassis components.
Strength is also affected by the closed profile present between the main strength elements. Its length is approximately 60 cm.
All components have a standard arrangement. So, the muffler and both batteries are located on the right side of the body. The exhaust pipe is on the left.
For convenience, plastic mudguards are attached to the chassis. Their width is large enough to avoid excessive contamination of the body and windows, which significantly adds comfort when driving in the rain.
Construction
Since some of the innovations inherent in long-haul trucks apply to vehicles for the construction sector, we will only dwell on their differences.
One of the most important improvements is the new trailing axle, which is installed on both tractors and chassis, giving the trucks maximum maneuverability.
The new trailing axle is equipped with an electro-hydraulic steering system (EHS), which is 30 kg lighter and therefore provides additional payload. Steering is now extremely precise as EHS continuously calculates the optimal steering angle for the rear wheels based on the speed and wheelbase of the truck. The advantages of such a steering system are especially noticeable when maneuvering and driving in dense traffic flow on city streets.
When driving at speeds above 40 km/h, the axle is locked in a straight position, guaranteeing maximum vehicle directional stability and additional fuel economy. In addition, the trailing axle steering system consists of significantly fewer components, resulting in a long-lasting and reliable axle.
The new steered trailing axle is available on 6x2 chassis and tractors, as well as on 8x2 chassis. On the 6x2 CF and XF FAN models, the EHS system is additionally equipped with a new air suspension, which can be used to quickly lower the axle by 90 mm or raise it by 185 mm for fast and reliable loading and unloading of the swap body.
DAF has also introduced a new 10-tonne dual-tire trailing axle with a static load capacity of at least 34 tons. This is especially important when loading and unloading heavy containers. The new axle's own weight has been reduced by 25 kg. Combined with other weight-saving features of the new CF and XF, the payload can be increased by a total of 125kg.
The new DAF trailing axle with double tires is available on tractors and 6x2 chassis, as well as on 8x2 chassis.
Especially for vehicles frequently used in off-road conditions, DAF has introduced new tandem drive bogies with wheel reduction gears (HR1670T). These twin axles are equipped with a completely new cast iron final drive housing, which has been reduced in weight by 60 kg.
For even greater fuel economy, lower final (final drive + wheel reduction) gear ratios are now available (3.46, 3.61 and 3.76). They allow the engine to operate at lower speeds. To ensure minimal operating costs, oil change intervals for the new dual axles have been extended to 3 years or 450,000 km.
New drive tandem bogies, coupled with wheel reduction units, are installed on 6x4 and 8x4 heavy-duty tractors and chassis.
A lightweight mixer chassis, the CF FAD 8×4, has been proposed for the European market. It now comes with twin 19-tonne single-geared axles (SR1132T) and two 7.1-tonne front axles. Thanks to the optimization of the steering and suspension systems, the use of disc brakes in the braking system and the new compact EAS unit with a vertical exhaust pipe, the curb weight of this lightweight truck is only 9150 kg - a kind of benchmark in its class. This chassis is equipped with the new PACCAR MX-11 engine with 370–450 hp. With.
Another innovation is an innovative battery charging monitoring system. This optional system uses a sensor to accurately measure the battery's state of charge and also takes into account environmental conditions to ensure the vehicle is always ready for use. Along the way, you can order the installation of tire pressure monitoring - this system reduces tire wear and provides improved fuel efficiency of the truck.
Among the practical things for construction trucks, it is worth noting the presence of lower movable steps, an approach angle of 25 degrees, a step on the cab and handles on the roof (for inspecting the tipper body), straight front axle beams with a ground clearance of 400 mm, a vertically elongated air intake with a cyclone filter and an exhaust pipe, as well as installing LED tail lights.
The CF 450 FAQ 8 x multi-axle truck with three steered axles proved to be extremely maneuverable, despite its length and impressive dimensions. The presence of four axles could not but affect the smoothness of the ride - all irregularities were absorbed like an armored personnel carrier, and the 450-horsepower engine made it possible to confidently stay in heavy traffic.
The CF 530 FTT truck tractor with a tipper semi-trailer showed much greater agility . The presence of the most powerful engine in the lineup sometimes forced us to stop ourselves from being overly self-confident, and the previously noted terrain prompted us to take a closer look at retarders. They behaved impeccably
Instead of a resume
Seven years have flown by, a successor has long been plying its way along European autobahns, by the way, also available on our market, and now I’m going to drive a legendary tractor, which drivers really love for its space and comfort, and it’s impossible that nothing has changed since 2009 th.
