Adjusting the free play of the MTZ-80 clutch pedal
When the tractor is operating, due to wear of the friction linings, the free play of the clutch pedal gradually decreases, which should be checked every 125 hours of operation.
The stroke of lever 5 at the radius of pin 6 should be 6…7 mm, which corresponds to a free stroke of 40…50 mm of clutch pedal 1.
Adjust the MTZ-80 Belarus clutch control in the following sequence:
— disconnect rod 8 from lever 5 by removing pin 6; — by unscrewing adjusting bolt 2, return pedal 1 to its original position until it stops on the floor; — turn lever 5 counterclockwise until the release bearing stops in the release levers and, rotating the fork 7 of the rod 8, align the holes of the lever and the fork, then shorten the rod 8 by about 5 turns of the fork 7 and connect it to the lever with a finger; check the free play on the clutch pedal pad; — check the return of the clutch pedal to its original position when retracting it to its full stroke. If the pedal gets stuck, you must loosen the bolts 4 and turn the bracket 3 clockwise or tighten the adjusting bolt 2 to an amount that ensures the pedal returns to its original position.
If the free play of the clutch pedal cannot be adjusted by changing the length of rod 8, and the stroke of lever 5 when measured at the radius of pin 6 is less than 4 mm, adjust the position of the release levers as indicated below.
After adjusting the clutch control mechanism, tighten the locknut and pin.
Adjusting the position of the MTZ-80 clutch release levers
After installing the clutch on the flywheel and removing the technological bolts, adjust the position of the release levers 3 using a special mandrel 4, which is based on the inner diameter of the hub spline of the support disk 5 with a stop at the end of the hub. The mandrel has an end surface for resting the release levers. Using adjusting nuts 2, move the release levers all the way to the end of the mandrel and install lock washers 1. This ensures a distance A = 13 ± 0.5 mm from the contact surface of the levers 3 with the release bearing to the end of the hub of the support disk 5. The difference in this size for clutch levers should not exceed 0.3 mm.
Clutch malfunctions of the MTZ-80 tractor
Clutch does not transmit full torque No pedal free play - Adjust pedal free play. The driven disk linings are worn - Replace the driven disk assembly. The clutch does not disengage completely. Pedal free play has increased - Adjust the pedal free play. Oil getting into the dry compartment of the clutch housing Wear of the cuff sealing the crankshaft - Replace the cuff. The bearing cover of the driven shaft of the PTO drive is pressed out when docking the tractor after repair - Install a new cover or straighten the old one. Wear of the cuff of the lift bracket - Replace the cuff.

PTO adjustment
In order for the power take-off shaft installed on the tractor to function normally, it must be periodically inspected and adjusted. This applies not only to the MTZ-80, but to all tractors in general. The adjustment scheme looks like this:
1. The eccentric axis is set to its original position. The applied mark should be on the right and located vertically. The position is fixed using locking plates.
2. The rod is disconnected.
3. The cup bolts are unscrewed to release the springs.
4. The rear axle hatch cover is dismantled. This provides access to the head of the tension screw.
5. The lever is moved to the neutral position and secured with a bolt. Then the locking plate is removed and the screw is tightened until it stops. After this, the bolt securing the lever can be removed.
6. The thrust bolt is screwed into the outer cup.
7. The lever is moved to the “on” position. Traction is installed.
8. By adjusting the thrust, the required lever play is set.
9. Upon completion of the adjustment, all parts are returned to their places, the rods and mounting bolts are reinforced with locknuts.
If you don't help, you won't go
This does not apply to bribes, but it is necessary to know the use of the necessary lubricants.
In addition, it is important to comply with the regulations of the work carried out and the deadlines for their completion. The MTZ tractor is designed to use the following fuels and lubricants: Clutch adjustment should be carried out (the clutch is at least inspected) every 60, 240 operating hours, lubricating the release bearing with the above means. On some more modern tractor models, the time limit has been almost doubled, which does not cancel a similar action plan.
Lubrication is carried out through the neck of the oiler, located on the outlet housing or on the clutch housing itself, connected by a flexible hose to the bearing. When adjusting the clutch, check the free play of the pedal (usually 40 to 45 mm) from the release bearing to the release levers.
Troubleshooting
Wear and failure of clutch parts can be determined by the appearance of:
- difficulties when changing gears;
- extraneous noises and knocks;
- clutch slipping.
If a strong noise or whistle occurs when you press the clutch pedal, most likely the release thrust bearing has failed. As for slippage, its main cause is oil getting on the discs due to leaks through the gearbox or crankshaft shaft seals.
During operation of the tractor, cracks and rainbow colors may appear on the surface of the pressure plate. This is due to worn linings and bent clutch discs.
Settings
If the values exceed the specified parameters, it is necessary to adjust the clutch on the MTZ-82. To do this, follow these steps:
- Remove the link that connects the pedal and clutch lever. To do this, remove the connecting pin installed on the clutch assembly.
- Using the screw adjuster, lower the pedal to its lowest position until it touches the floor of the cabin. To do this, the regulator screw must be unscrewed.
- Place the release bearing against the surface of the release levers and hold the parts in this position. This is done by turning the clutch control lever counterclockwise.
- Using a screw connection on the rod, bring its length until the holes at the end of the rod coincide with the hole in the retracted clutch lever.
- By rotating the connection in reverse, the length of the rod should be slightly reduced. The screw is turned 4.5...5 turns, but no more.
- Connect the rod and clutch lever with the removed pin.
- Check the pedal travel by measuring it against the thrust pad.
If it is not possible to perform the adjustment using the indicated method and if the free play is too small, the release levers must be adjusted. To do this, you will need to disconnect the engine and gearbox and set the position of the levers using a special tool - a mandrel. It is installed on the internal splines of the clutch support element and rests against the support part itself with its end surface. Then, by rotating the nuts, ensure that the levers rest evenly on the end part of the mandrel. The nuts are fixed in the required position with special washers. The purpose of the adjustment is to set the required gap of 13 mm between the levers and the support element.
After this, you should check the correct operation of the mechanism that returns the pedal to the upper position. This device should ensure quick and trouble-free return of the pedal from its lowest position. If you are not working fast enough and the pedal freezes, you should make additional adjustments to the MTZ-82 clutch. Tips for adjusting the mechanism are as follows:
- Loosen the return spring lower bracket mounting bolts.
- Turn the bracket itself clockwise.
- If the bracket cannot be rotated, then tighten the adjustment bolt located on the spring. The amount of adjustment should ensure uninterrupted return of the pedal to the upper position.
- Tighten all previously loose threaded connections.

The T-150 has a Yamz engine. The clutch doesn't work.
Hello, guys. This is the problem: we have a Yamz engine on the T-150. The clutch doesn't work. We replaced new discs, release and adjusting bolts and tabs. The thermos and brake cylinder are also new. But the clutch did not work and still does not work. The speed switches on with a loud whine. The basket is on our T-150 from a Mazov engine. Good luck to the admin)))
How to install a petal clutch disc on an MTZ-80. ?
Tell me how to install the petal clutch disc on the MTZ-80. Which side is facing the flywheel, the wide side or the narrow side?
I installed a new basket and disk on the MTZ 80, but there is a problem!
I installed a new basket and disk on the MTZ 80. I immediately set the paws to 28 from the hub or 12 from the splines, basically as taught! Not going! It seems like he’s trying it, and he’s roaring without squeezing. For the first time such an ambush, I think the basket is crap, the springs are weak. The gap between the release lever and the paws is a couple of mm. You can move the release lever a cm, there is room there and add varnishes. Will he walk? Please advise. The basket is a new model, I wanted to take the old one, they said take what was there. By the way, are they interchangeable?

Rules for operation and maintenance of MTZ-82 brakes
In order to repair the MTZ-82 brakes, it is necessary to do as little as possible, it is necessary to constantly adjust and carry out their maintenance. In addition, all advice on operating the tractor must be followed.
- You should not regularly press the brake pedal, as this behavior will lead to faster wear of the new tractor brake.
- Do not apply sudden braking, as this will wear out the brake limiters. In this case, the brakes will need to be replaced fairly quickly.
- Every day it is necessary to inspect all parts of the tractor for damage.
- Brakes should be adjusted on a regular basis.
