Technical characteristics of the Ural timber truck model range

Urals timber carriers are heavy specialized cargo equipment designed for transporting fallen and felled logs, logs, round and split logs and other wood products with a length of no more than 23 m.

Trucks are distinguished by high maneuverability, maintainability, endurance and reliability. To expand functionality, they are equipped with additional crane-manipulator units (CMU), which allow them to independently perform lifting and loading and unloading operations.

The Ural log carrier is a powerful unit that is used by logging and construction enterprises to transport long, elongated logs across areas with difficult and severe climatic and weather conditions. The car is capable of driving on all types of roads with any surface and off-road.

The manufacturer of such all-terrain vehicles is a large Russian enterprise - UralAZ, OJSC Avtomobilny, located in the Chelyabinsk region in the city of Miass.

Design features

The design of timber trucks is a U-shaped steel frame with a special saw cut at the bottom for holding timber and stacking it.

The Ural chassis is used as a base and supplemented with various superstructures. The choice of model depends directly on the operating conditions. When driving completely off-road, the truck must have increased cross-country ability. This category includes all-wheel drive vehicles with center differential locks, wide ground clearance, a high-power winch and a tire pressure adjustment mechanism.

When driving on roads with an approximate distribution, such as 30% - dirt and forest roads, 70% - highway, it is possible to operate a chassis with lower tactical, technical and road parameters, but with a mandatory axle blocking function. If the car transports timber from lower warehouses and uses only public roads, choose a car with basic characteristics.

The scaffolding structure is attached to the Ural chassis and consists of 2 spars located on the sides of the vehicle. Rotary bunks - U-shaped supports - are mounted on top of them. When stacking, the following rule is used: 1 bundle of timber must be located inside at least 2 pairs of bunks, or the more rotating mechanisms, the more securely the load is secured.

To prevent the logs from shifting in the direction of movement, a safety grid is provided; cable harnesses are used for fixation.

When installing a crane on a Ural timber carrier, it is taken into account that the chassis must have a power take-off and a pump for oil fluid. The CMU is placed in the rear of the car for convenient loading of wood into a car or trailer with the ability to move along the timber frame.

The new crane truck is equipped with a separate all-metal 2-door cab to protect the driver from the elements.

Design features of Ural timber carriers:

  • installation of dependent suspensions: at the front - on 2 semi-elliptic springs with hydraulic shock absorbers, at the rear - balanced with semi-elliptical springs and reaction bars;
  • the presence of additional lighting in the form of spotlights on 2 sides of the car;
  • large fuel tanks;
  • anti-slip chains and steel gratings to overcome slippery areas;
  • the presence of a sandbox - a bunker with sand for automatic pouring under the drive axles.

How are timber trucks constructed?

Loading onto timber trucks is done in this way. Hitching straps are placed on the bottom of the logging trailer. After this, the laying out of timber begins. Laying out can be done either one log at a time or in a whole bunch at once. The final stage of loading is securing the logs with chains. The wood is then transported to a warehouse or final location for processing.

Upon arrival at the destination, the logs are unloaded. Using a crane, the specialist removes the entire stack of logs, most often this is done together with fastening belts, which are replaced at the end of the entire procedure. If there is no crane, then unloading is carried out using a manipulator, but only one log at a time. It is not possible to unload the entire stack using a manipulator. The video will tell you in more detail how timber trucks work.

The lineup

The history of the origin of the Ural model range is directly related to the Soviet modified UralZIS-355M truck, which went into mass production in 1957 and was 2-axle. Automobile tanks for transporting milk, liquid and fuel were installed on it. In addition, timber carriers, mobile stations, vans and truck tractors were produced on the basis of the 355M for use in the regions of Siberia and the Far East.

Modern log carriers are produced on the Uralov-4320, 375 and 43204 chassis.

On the Ural-4320 frame, a timber truck with a hydraulic manipulator is considered the most common machine in the logging industry. The truck is equipped with a YaMZ-236 in-line engine with a power of 240 hp. With. with toxicity class "Euro-4". On the domestic market there are used Ural timber trucks of the 4320 model with a KamAZ power unit with lower environmental standards.

Various special equipment is installed on the Ural-375 base, incl. and hydraulic manipulators. The trucks are easy to maintain, have high torque and good maneuverability. As part of a road train, they can easily move on all types of roads. The vehicle's carrying capacity is 5.7 tons, the power of the power unit is 176 hp. With.

Chassis 43204 is also used for mounting process equipment and special installations. The newest modification 43204-1111-40 of increased tonnage is equipped with a YaMZ-236NE2 (Euro-2) engine with a power of 230 hp. With. and is capable of moving at a speed of 70 km/h on any terrain. The all-metal cabin has 3 seats, one of which is adjustable for the driver, and is equipped with advanced ventilation, thermal, sound insulation and heating systems.

Price and analogues

The price of a new timber truck on the Ural chassis ranges from 3.2-4 million rubles if it has a CMU. There are relatively few used cars on the market; their cost depends on the technical condition of the log carrier, the availability of additional installations and equipment. The secondary market offers equipment for 0.9-1.5 million rubles.

Ural trucks demonstrate maximum cross-country ability and load capacity. These are the best models in the category of large-tonnage equipment, so there are no analogues among Russian and foreign models.

Advantages and disadvantages of technology

Ural equipment compares favorably with analogues on the market due to its performance characteristics. Advantageous features of the machines:

  1. High level of cross-country ability compared to most cars on the world market.
  2. Vehicle maintenance in the event of a breakdown or failure of spare parts can be carried out in field conditions.
  3. The main units and other mechanical components are highly reliable, resistant to mechanical stress and wear.
  4. High quality components, thanks to which the car can operate under conditions of temperature changes and other loads.

It is possible to sell a Ural timber truck with a manipulator for use in difficult terrain and on highways. An advantageous feature of the technology is the availability of components even if their production is completed. The main difference between domestic trucks in comparison with foreign analogues is the use of relatively old models of engines, which are significantly inferior in terms of environmental friendliness and fuel consumption.

The design of timber trucks is extremely simple; they are based on a classic tractor with a 6x6 wheel arrangement. A special trailer is attached to the truck, which is secured by a rotating bunk. The structure of the system resembles the letter “P”, and the main task of the device is to maintain a uniform arrangement of timber and fastening during transportation over long distances. The use of a special rotary design makes it possible to overcome the sharpest turns, which eliminates the possibility of using a rigid coupling mechanism.

Using hydraulic manipulators that are installed on the platform chassis, timber is transported. When unloaded, the trailer is mounted on the tractor for ease of movement on highways and narrow sidings.

The design of the Ural ensures ease of use of the equipment

Timber trucks Ural

The automobile plant began its history during the Second World War, when it was decided from the evacuated Moscow named after Stalin. Since 2001, the UralAZ production complex has been part of the GAZ Group.

Over its history, the manufacturer has become famous for the high cross-country ability of its trucks, which is the highest on the Russian market. To produce modern models of various special equipment, as well as timber trucks, universal chassis with different wheel arrangements are used, namely “Ural-43206” (4x4), “Ural-4320-31” (6x6), “Ural-5323” (8x8).

It is worth noting the high quality of manufacturing of the machines, unpretentiousness during operation, as well as operation from +40 to -40 Celsius. Thanks to this, trucks can be used anywhere in the world, even with low-skilled service and low-quality consumables.

To maintain a high level, the manufacturer used various developments from leading world enterprises, for example, quality control systems, automated lines, as well as “lean manufacturing” from Toyota.

Purpose

Ural timber tractors are used for transporting logs and logs with a maximum length of up to 23 meters. Thanks to their excellent cross-country ability, Ural vehicles can be used on rough terrain, and they are also intended for public roads. Some models can be equipped with a hydraulic manipulator, which allows you to work without additional equipment for lifting loads.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages of timber trucks based on the Ural:

  • High cross-country ability, which has no equal not only in the Russian market, but also remains practically without competitors in the global market;
  • High maintainability;
  • Good reliability of components and assemblies;
  • High quality workmanship;
  • A wide range of models that will allow you to choose from vehicles for difficult, rough terrain or from highway tractors that also have high cross-country ability;
  • It is easy to obtain spare parts even for discontinued machines.

Despite the high quality of manufacturing and automated lines, tractor engines are inferior to foreign analogues in terms of efficiency and environmental friendliness.
