History of creation

Since 1952, the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant has produced GAZ 69 and GAZ 69A passenger cars. The first modification was intended for the army, and the second for agricultural needs. The only differences were in the design of the interior: the military version had 8 seats, and the civilian version had 5 seats. Both cars were created on the elemental basis of the GAZ M 20 Pobeda model. Possessing good cross-country ability, these cars had several significant drawbacks. Firstly, both modifications did not have interior heaters, which, in our harsh climate, made it difficult to operate the GAZ 69 in the cold season. Secondly, these cars had a GAZ 11 engine, which was incredibly voracious and low-powered. In addition, the military was not pleased with the small ground clearance, only 210 millimeters. In real off-road conditions, the command vehicle sank in the mud where army trucks and armored vehicles were passing. In this regard, already in the mid-50s, the idea of ​​​​replacing this jeep appeared. In 1958, a prototype of the UAZ 460 was developed, but it never went into production.

In the 60s, the Volga was replaced by the GAZ 21 on the main assembly line of the Gorky Automotive Automotive. Of course, a new SUV was developed on its elemental base; it was supposed to be put on the line already in 1965. But due to a change in the country's leadership, these plans could not be implemented on time. The era of stagnation began. The future UAZ 469 was produced only in experimental batches and waited in the wings for another 7 long years.

Transmission mechanisms and components

Clutch assembly

Dry, single-disc, friction, with springs on the periphery, hydraulic shutdown drive. A mechanism for damping torsional vibrations is provided.

Gearbox and transfer case

For 4 modes, all forward gears with synchronizers, adjustments are not provided. The transfer case is of a mechanical type, with two stages of transmission of rotational force , allowing the use of an additional reduction mode.

Cardan transmission

Open, consists of two shafts, the rear one is tubular, the front one is a pipe and a solid shaft. The shafts are equipped with movable spline units (straight-sided or involute) and swivel joints on needle-type bearings.

Rear axle type - drive, modernized in 1988.

To improve dynamic performance, other characteristics were selected on the main gearbox pair. To increase the reliability of the unit, more efficient meshing parameters of the bridge gears were used.

The front axle is driven. The design of the main gear pair and differential corresponds to the rear axle.

Frame and towing device

It is made of two box-shaped steel beams, which are connected by cross members.

The frame of the UAZ-31512-010 model in the front part has spring suspension installation units; for other modifications, the frame devices provide for the installation of leaf springs at the front and rear.

The standard towing device is of a rigid type and does not allow long-term towing of a trailer.

Suspension

The UAZ-31512-010 model, like most modifications, has spring suspension on the front and rear axles. Spring type is semi-elliptical, multi-leaf.

The knot is made up of seven sheets at the front, and nine at the back. To increase comfort and improve vehicle handling, the UAZ-31512-010 is equipped with a spring suspension at the front.

To reduce the transmission of impact impacts from uneven road surfaces to the body, a pair of double-acting hydraulic shock-absorbing devices are installed in the suspension.

Hubs, wheels and tires

The wheel hubs for the rear and front axles are identical in design. They have 8 threaded holes for bolting flanges.

Wheel rims are steel, stamped with dimensions 6Lx15 or 6Lx16. 15-inch diagonal or 15- and 16-inch radial pneumatic tires are used.

Buying a body

Today, purchasing a new body 31512 or 31514 is not a problem. Many online stores offer painted or bare bodywork at the best prices.

As you know, a painted body, an awning, a panel tidy and everything necessary, except for the internal combustion engine and chassis, as well as the frame and transmission, is included in the 1st configuration of the UAZ.

In addition, the buyer is given the opportunity to additionally choose:

  • A tent body with hard seats and new locks is offered;
  • The proposed body is no longer a tent, but an iron one;
  • With an iron roof and hard seats.

As for the 3-pack body, it is rightly called a “boat”. Frame 31512, however, is painted, but without everything else. Here are the types of 3-pack body available to the buyer:

  • Body with fixing elements for installing an awning;
  • With holes for a metal roof.

Disadvantages noted by car owners

  1. Outdated car design and cabin design. Landing is difficult due to narrow doors, and air ducts and wires hang from under the dashboard.
  2. The hard suspension does not create comfortable conditions on long trips.
  3. Unclear steering requires certain skills from the driver, especially in models without a hydraulic booster, which also does not provide sufficient connection between the steering wheel and the steered pair of wheels.
  4. The brake mechanism is not effective enough and requires constant adjustment.
  5. The used units, components and mechanisms do not have sufficient reliability.
  6. A significant number of lubrication and maintenance points, low maintenance mileage.

Is selling cars for scrap metal profitable or not?

The average weight of a car is 1 ton; if the car comes as a whole (glass, interior elements, tires, etc.), the blockage is set to at least 30%. Those. in fact, the weight of the car is reduced by 300 kg and only 600 kg = 0.6 tons is used for scrap metal. Now the most interesting thing is that the cost of scrap metal in each region is different. The highest price for scrap metal is observed in St. Petersburg (currently it is about 9,000 rubles per ton), in Moscow the price is 7-8 thousand rubles per ton, in Novosibirsk 4-5 thousand, etc. Therefore, here and now we will not be able to name the exact amount. Find out in your city what they accept for scrap metal of category 5 A (namely, this is the category the car will belong to) and multiply by the weight of your car minus 30% of the blockage.

Now it’s worth considering the costs of transportation to the place where you want to sell the car for scrap. If the car is running, then there are no problems, you will get there under your own power and get money without extra expenses. If the car’s wheels at least spin and the suspension and body “live together” and the steering works, you can easily ask a friend to pull you on a cable to the scrap metal acceptance. If the steering does not work, you can tow it with a rigid hitch.

But what if the car is junk and never gets there? This is where costs need to be considered. Tow truck or self-loader 5 tons. The average price for such equipment is 800-1000 rubles per hour, working time is considered to be 2 hours (the so-called minimum wage), i.e. it will cost 2000 rubles to transport the machine for scrap metal. If the price of scrap metal in your city is 6 thousand rubles, then for the car you will receive approximately 1,600 rubles (1 ton - 30% contamination x 6,000 rubles - 2,000 rubles transportation).

Limited edition

In 2010, the last batch of UAZ 469 cars was produced. This batch consisted of 5,000 cars. The car changed its name and came out under the number UAZ-315196. There have been changes in the comfort of the car. The car's suspension became spring-loaded. The front brakes became disc. In the configuration with a metal roof, power steering appeared. The car got a different engine - ZMZ-4091, with a power of 112 horsepower. The bridges have also changed, they have become split, and the car's knuckles have become rotating. The bumpers on the car were already made of metal, a folding tailgate appeared, like on the UAZ Hunter.

In 2011, the UAZ 469 ceased to be produced by the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. It was replaced by the UAZ Hunter. Now you can buy UAZ 469 only on the secondary market.

Where to sell your car for scrap metal

If you still decide that it’s time to scrap your old car, then you should contact the large ferrous metal acceptance centers in your city. The larger the metal warehouse, the higher their price - this is as a rule. But it also happens that a recently opened reception area may offer prices a little higher in order to get more customers and promote its name.

First of all, look for “Vtorchermet” in your city - this is a large network of bases throughout Russia, interconnected only by name, this used to be the single and only enterprise of the USSR for the procurement of scrap, but now the name “Vtorchermet” has become a brand.

Do a little monitoring of prices - they will not differ much, the maximum difference can be 300-500 rubles per ton. Therefore, it is easier and faster to contact the base that is closest to you. Also, before making change, ask if there is cash at the till, because... It often happens that acceptances are calculated only the next day - there is no money in the cash register.

Machine disassembly

Another option for handing over a machine to ferrous metal is to disassemble it. If you have a lot of free time, there is a place and all the conditions, then you can catch a small benefit:

Sort. This is perhaps the longest and most difficult process, but it will provide the greatest benefit, along with the sale of spare parts. Non-ferrous metal is contained in the transmission, in the engine housing, in engine attachments, in the passenger compartment, etc. For each type of non-ferrous scrap, have a separate container and sort it, because No one will buy unsorted scrap from you.

Reduce blockage. If you have no desire to sort and disassemble, then simply throw out everything non-metal from the car. Trim, glass, rubber, etc. In this case, the metal collection specialist can reduce the percentage of blockage to 10%, which will be much more profitable if you get rid of only 100-200 kilograms.

Dismantling a car is, of course, everyone’s business and it’s worth considering whether the time spent will correspond to the benefit you will receive. We do not recommend disassembling; it is much faster, easier and safer to hand over the entire car.
