The Volvo EC460BLC excavator is based on an undercarriage with a robust classic X-shaped frame, including sealed and lubricated tracks. The model has 52 wide crawler tracks on each side, which provide high cross-country ability.

The excavator is equipped with an IWMC (Integrated work mode control) hydraulic system. It is designed to provide maximum productivity, precision maneuvering and digging power with significant fuel efficiency. The summation of flows, their subsequent distribution taking into account the priorities emanating from the turntable, arm and boom allows one to achieve excellent operating parameters. Energy recovery valves also help with this.

The IWMC hydraulic system has many functions:

  1. boom priority, which allows for faster lifting when excavating and loading soil from great depths;
  2. turntable priority. The function allows you to quickly rotate the equipment or superstructure during working movements;
  3. Stick priority, which reduces the work cycle within the layout and speeds up filling of the bucket during excavation;
  4. summation of flows. The function ensures the integration of the flows of the main pumps and allows you to increase the productivity of the working cycle;
  5. an energy recovery system that directs the flow of hydraulic fluid while simultaneously performing operations to other equipment and prevents cavitation. The function increases work productivity;
  6. boost mode, which increases the working forces of the excavation and lifting functions.

The excavator hydraulic system includes arm and boom hold valves to prevent them from drifting during work operations.

The Volvo 460 cabin is superior to its analogues in many respects. It has a fairly large door that allows you to easily climb into the cabin. Special hydro-shock-absorbing supports and sound-absorbing lining significantly reduce the noise level. The cabin also features good all-round visibility.

A unique heating and air conditioning system carefully filters the air entering the cabin. This allows the operator to work in very dusty conditions without resorting to additional protective equipment. The excess pressure created by the air conditioning system also prevents dust from entering the cabin.

Volvo EC 460 crawler excavator technical specifications and description

The manufacturer Volvo began mass production of special equipment back in 1927. The main principles that the company has followed throughout its history are environmental protection, high quality, as well as reliability and safety. That is why all manufactured products hold leading positions in the markets for quite a long time.

Also, the constant improvement of structural elements and the power plant contributed to the great popularity of all equipment. The flagship model of this manufacturer is the Volvo EC460 crawler excavator, which is often used to perform quite heavy types of work.

This excavator was developed specifically for work in harsh operating conditions, as evidenced by the many reinforcements of certain equipment elements.

Description and features

There are practically no tasks that are impossible for the Volvo 460 excavator. The equipment penetrates into the ground with maximum efficiency and very simply removes materials.

The reliability of the model during active use is ensured thanks to the highly reliable handle and boom, but this is also facilitated by a productive power unit of our own production.

In addition to these qualities, this excavator stands out for its efficiency and it is worth noting that according to this indicator, the machine is included in the list of one of the best models in its segment. High efficiency allows the owner to significantly reduce the cost of maintaining equipment, which is undoubtedly a big plus.

The entire structure of the excavator, including the operator’s cabin, consists only of high-quality materials, which makes it possible to achieve increased reliability and extended service life. Currently, for most operators this machine is considered a real standard of quality and reliability.

This model is distinguished by increased reliability due to the following:

  1. The turntable has additional reinforcements and a double welded seam, which was subjected to various treatments during the production stage of the machine.
  2. The central frame of the tracked platform was also significantly strengthened, which had a positive effect not only on reliability, but also on the stability of the structure.
  3. Track links have improved connections for longer service life. It is worth noting that this element does not require regular lubrication.
  4. The working parts of the excavator, namely the handle and boom, also received additional reinforcements, thanks to which the equipment can cope with very heavy loads.

The reliability of the excavator was achieved due to:

  1. Simplified management.
  2. Centralized lubrication points.
  3. Full access to all the most important elements of the hydraulic system and power plant that require regular inspection.
  4. Simplified maintenance and inspection of equipment.
  5. Easy access to service points.

The Volvo 460 crawler excavator can be called an indispensable assistant, which allows you to carry out almost all operations, regardless of the degree of complexity.

The main element of this model is a durable X-shaped frame made of high-strength steel in a classic form. The frame includes an undercarriage and caterpillar tracks equipped with special seals and lubricants. Each caterpillar track contains 52 wide tracks, which made it possible to achieve high maneuverability and stability on all types of soil.

The working parts of the excavator operate using the IWMC (Integrated work mode control) hydraulic system.

The manufacturer designed this hydraulics with the goal of providing the equipment with high performance, increased accuracy of any manipulations, impressive power, and at the same time ensuring improved engine efficiency.

Hydraulic flows, as in most other machines, have a summation function, which, together with the priority modes of the boom, handle and rotary mechanism, provides excellent performance. This is also facilitated by special valves designed for energy recovery.

The manufacturer has endowed this hydraulic system with several functions that provide the excavator with high productivity and efficiency. Let's look at them in more detail:

  1. By enabling boom priority, the time required to complete a lift is significantly reduced, allowing a large amount of work to be completed in a relatively short amount of time.
  2. When turning on the priority of the rotary mechanism, the rotation of the entire superstructure is carried out much faster, which also affects the amount of work.
  3. By enabling handle priority, the time required to complete a complete work cycle within a layout is also reduced.
  4. Thanks to the summation of flows, the manufacturer was able to significantly increase the productivity of the excavator when performing a full operating cycle.
  5. The energy recovery system also improves machine productivity because the system directs the flow of hydraulic fluid to other equipment when multiple operations are being performed simultaneously, thereby preventing cavitation.
  6. When the boost mode is turned on, the operating parameters of the hydraulic system temporarily increase, which allows you to cope with even the most complex tasks.

Also, the hydraulic system was supplemented with special valves that allow you to lock the boom and handle in one position, thereby preventing their accidental movement when transporting equipment or when idle.

Compared to similar models, this excavator has a significantly improved cabin. It is equipped with a fairly large door, which allows the operator to get in and out of the cabin without any difficulty.

The cabin structure is mounted on hydraulic shock absorbers, which help reduce vibration during operation. High-quality facing materials help reduce the level of extraneous noise in the cabin.

The operator can carry out any operation with maximum precision not only thanks to advanced hydraulics, but also due to large windows that provide excellent visibility of the work area.

In the Volvo 460 cabin, the manufacturer used a unique heating and air conditioning system that directs clean, filtered air into the cabin. These elements make it possible to maintain the most comfortable working conditions for the operator, regardless of weather conditions. Also, all this prevents dust and other small particles from entering the cabin when operating in rather dusty conditions, since the air conditioning system creates excess pressure inside the cabin.

Volvo 460 crawler excavator

Volvo released the first model at the beginning of the 20th century. Since then, the main principles of all produced models have become: safety of nature and humans, and product quality. Thanks to them, the brand has earned recognition not only in Sweden, but throughout the world. As for excavators, the demand for Volvo models is much higher than for models from other manufacturers. The manufacturer does not stop at the achieved results, therefore it continues to develop all the main elements of the produced models.

Excavator Volvo EC 460 VLC

One of Volvo's leading models is the Volvo EC 460 BLC excavator. Its use contributes to high-quality performance of work with increased complexity or work in difficult conditions. This model can easily cope with excavation of earth during the construction of artificial reservoirs, transportation of rocks, and road work in significant volumes. The Volvo 460 Excavator is widely used in construction work and in quarries.

In addition, the EC460BLC excavator is highly efficient in all conditions: it can easily get the bucket into the ground and remove material, regardless of the depth of the excavation. Features and Benefits

In order to verify the technical advantages of the machine, you need to open the service hatches. Hidden behind them are amplifiers and frames of considerable thickness. It is thanks to these qualities that Volvo excavators have gained worldwide recognition and popularity.

The reliability of the model is guaranteed, because:

  • the superstructure is reinforced in the corners with double welds;
  • the boom and handle are reinforced relative to other models;
  • the reinforced chassis frame has a beneficial effect on reliability during regular use;
  • The track links are connected more reliably, do not require lubrication, and their service life is increased.

Increased operating time of equipment without the need for repairs was achieved thanks to:

  • ease of control;
  • convenience and accessibility for servicing the working components of the machine;
  • ease of maintenance.

Technical features

Both models were equipped with injection and carburetor versions of the Renault 1.7-liter gasoline engine with power from 79 to 106 horsepower. In expensive versions of the car, this engine was supplemented with a turbine, increasing its power to 122 hp. Later, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 petrol units were added to the line. After restyling, the model lost its carburetor engines and received a 1.9-liter Renault turbodiesel.

Cars were equipped with a five-speed manual transmission by default. Four-speed automatic transmissions received versions with power above 100 hp. Since 1995, stepless variators appeared on the model.

Restyled cars were equipped with Volvo's own Side Impact Protection System (SIPS). Its main task was to absorb the energy of a side impact by the entire car body. The front seats were installed on special cross rails to move during a side impact and absorb the impact by crushing the center console.

The sedan and hatchback of the 400 series were distinguished by good paintwork and a galvanized body. Thanks to this, the Scandinavians gave a 10-year guarantee against through corrosion on the car body. In cars older than this age, the rear wheel arches suffered primarily from rust.

Safety

Volvo's safety was strongly emphasized in the manufacturer's commercials for the 300 series. After the car was thrown from the second floor and dropped vertically onto the asphalt, the crash test dummy nonchalantly got out of the car and went to participate in other tests.

However, there is no objective data on the safety of the Volvo 440 and 460 models, since the EuroNCAP association, which traditionally conducts crash tests of cars in Europe, was founded only a year after the 400 series was discontinued.

At one time, at its own test site, Volvo conducted strength tests on the sports model 480, which formed the basis for the 440 and 460. However, these data cannot be applied to vehicles with other body types.
