The Hitachi 160 itself is a multifunctional machine that has a large digging bucket and a diesel power plant. It is often used in very difficult conditions. This is due to increased engine performance, excellent maneuverability and high stability, which was achieved thanks to the optimal dimensions of the tracked platform.

The machine has many different features, of which the following should be highlighted:

  5. The cabin uses many different materials, as a result of which the manufacturer was able to significantly reduce the level of extraneous noise and vibrations that arise during the working process. This also affects the comfort of the equipment.
  6. In this model, the control of the attachments and the machine itself has been improved, making it even easier to operate the equipment.
  7. In addition to low fuel consumption, the power plant has quite high performance. It is worth noting that this figure is 10 percent higher in comparison with similar models.

It is worth noting that in addition to all of the above, the Hitachi ZX 160LC crawler excavator uses a lot of unique modern systems that provide the operator with full control over the operation of the equipment, make it possible to connect a rear view camera, check maintenance intervals, activate the machine's anti-theft system, and also monitor level of fuel consumption throughout the entire operation.

Increased durability comes from larger box beams and an improved frame design with added protection. It is worth noting that during operation the machine does not have a strong impact on the environment, since the improved exhaust system helps to significantly reduce the amount of toxic emissions into the atmosphere.

The excavator frame structure has been strengthened, increasing its strength by 45 percent. The beams located above and below are presented in the form of monolithic plates, which, as it turned out, had a positive effect on reliability and resistance to high loads.

Manipulations of the rotary and tracked platform are carried out using an axial-piston hydraulic motor and a planetary gearbox. The turntable has a ball bearing and an internal gear. This is used in almost every modern technology.

Excavator attachments are made of high-strength steel and, in addition, at the production stage they are subject to additional reinforcements, which guarantees a long service life. In order to reduce wear on the elements, the manufacturer used rubber thrust plates, which, in addition to their main task, also help reduce various noises. The working equipment of the equipment has new bushings using solid lubricant. The tests carried out showed that this solution made it possible to significantly increase the operational life.

High-strength steel is also found in the elements of the tracked platform. The track rollers have internal lubrication, which protects them from the ingress of various particles during operation, thereby ensuring increased service life. In order to increase maneuverability and stability, the track shoes have acquired triple lugs. It is worth noting that the shoes are presented in the form of a triangular or flat profile. The tension of the caterpillar belt is carried out by a hydraulic tensioner, supplemented by a spring shock absorber.

Each caterpillar is controlled using an axial-piston hydraulic motor, which has two operating speeds and a planetary gearbox. The presence of two speeds allows the tracks to move in the reverse direction. The equipment is stopped using a hydromechanical parking brake. The gearbox of this excavator is automatic, however, the operator can still select the required travel speed.

The cabin of the model was quite spacious and comfortable, although it belongs to the mid-size category. Its total height is 1675 millimeters and its width is 1005 millimeters. The cabin is fully compliant with ISO safety standards. The operator's seat is fully adjustable. The seat can be moved either separately from the controls or together with them, which also has a positive effect on the operator’s comfort. In addition, the chair has seat belts, a large reclining backrest and special armrests. It is worth noting that when designing the cabin, the manufacturer focused on operator safety. There, enhanced protection against rollovers and falling objects appeared. When compared with other models, this one’s load-bearing capacity was increased by 2.5 times, both during a side impact and a top impact. Among the additional features of the cabin, it is necessary to highlight the modern liquid crystal display, which displays all the necessary information about the state of the equipment. The operator's legroom has been increased, which also improves ease of use. The machine control levers have a very short stroke, making the operator less tired when doing any work for quite a long time. Highly efficient filters are used that minimize the ingress of dust and other small particles during active work. The level of vibrations and extraneous noise is quite low, which is due to the use of high-quality vibration-insulating and sound-absorbing materials. Optionally, automatic air conditioning can be included in the package.

The Hitachi 160 is equipped with a diesel four-cylinder power unit of the Isuzu AI-4JJ1X brand. This engine has a direct fuel injection system into the combustion chambers, an overhead camshaft and liquid cooling. The unit is quite environmentally friendly and fully complies with Euro-2 standards.
