Rostselmash is a glorious enterprise with rich, long-standing traditions. One of the few that not only survived the years of difficult trials after the collapse of the Soviet Union, but also continued its systematic development.

Confirming the ambitious plans of the management of Rostselmash: every two years - a new model of the combine - the 530 was followed by the Acros-550 and Acros-580. “Akros-580”, like the 530, is a combine harvester with a single-drum threshing and separating device.

Harvesters of the Acros series began to be produced in 2004. The main differences from their predecessors - the Don series combines:

  • economical 6-cylinder engines
  • equipping with beater analyzers of the “Power Stream” feeder chamber (5, 6, 7 and 9 meters)

  • presence of a blade for additional threshing
  • expanded options for installing various auxiliary equipment [1]

The basic model Acros 530 was equipped with a YaMZ-236BK-3 engine (255 hp) [4] Later, a model with a YaMZ-6563.10 Euro-3 230 hp engine appeared.

The Akros-580 combine harvester is intended for use on large farms over large areas. The capabilities of this combine allow it to harvest more than 1,000 hectares in one harvest season, ranging from early (winter) grains to corn and sunflowers.

"Akros-580" is practically independent of the vagaries of the weather, maintaining the ability to effectively harvest crops both in 50-degree heat and in damp and cold weather. And, if necessary, even in the dark, with the help of powerful LED spotlights.

The drum with a diameter of 800 mm is heavy, has high inertia, and is able to work stably even with twisted, clogged or wet ears. In any conditions, it provides almost complete (95%) separation while carefully preserving grain from damage

How Akros-580 works. Features of the combine.

The Acros-580 combine mows the ears with knives with a double cutting edge, equipped with a planetary drive with a cutting frequency of 1140 strokes per minute. The working mass of the grain crop is fed by a reel with a hydraulic drive, which regulates its rotation speed to ensure uniform feeding. In difficult areas, laying crops are captured by the long tines of the rake, allowing the auger to easily transport them for threshing.

The drum’s increased diameter and the concave’s wrap angle increased to 130 degrees create an almost ideal threshing geometry and the most complete grain separation. The harvest is fed to the threshing drum by a feeder conveyor to separate the grains. Together with small fractions, they are removed to the transport board and separator. They pass through the deck grate for airflow and transportation through an auger into the grain bin. The spent ears on the stalks are removed after the straw walker, and the free grain and particles of the ears, having passed a loss control sensor and a rotary threshing device, are fed into the bunker.

The special feature of Akros-580 is its new (extended) beater-free inclined chamber, which provides a better overview of the cutting device and simplifies the procedure for re-equipping for harvesting row crops. The increased load capacity of the unit to three tons gave the agricultural machine new opportunities to work with wide-cut adapters (for example, with a conveyor header), which is an important factor in increasing the productivity of the combine in fields with low yields.

By the way, “Acros-580” is equipped with a single hydraulic connector, which allows you to significantly reduce the time spent on connection. The entire hydraulic network of the combine is reliably protected from the penetration of dirt and dust from the outside.

Solid throughput, careful handling of straw, minimal percentage of grain damage are successfully combined with the low energy intensity of the threshing and separating device. This is achieved, among other things, through the use of a qualitatively new pre-threshing device.

Unlike agricultural machines, in which unthreshed ears are returned to the drum, in Akros-580 they enter an autonomous type of finishing device. They are served by a three-blade rotor. The result is a softer and higher-quality threshing with a low degree of grain crushing. And the drum is never overloaded! In this case, the grain obtained from repeated grinding is evenly distributed over the entire width of the shaking board, completing the full cleaning cycle without the risk of overloading the sieve.

Next, the clean grain enters a spacious bunker with a volume of 9 thousand liters. In the old days, at least five percent of a machine operator’s shift was spent unloading grain from a bunker into the back of a vehicle. With the Acros-580, this large hopper is completely emptied in just two minutes! Accordingly, you can work longer directly on cleaning. The new engine of this combine serves the same purpose: 14 hours of continuous operation without the need to refuel!

Engine of the Akros-580 combine

Unlike its predecessor, the Akros-530, the “heart” of which was the YaMZ engine, the Acros-580 is equipped with Cummins diesel engines .

Brand: Cummins-6LTAA. This is a V-shaped six-cylinder four-stroke turbocharged liquid-cooled diesel engine with a volume of 8.9 liters and a power of 300 horsepower (221 kW).

Compared to the YaMZ/236BK engine (on the Acros-530), the Cummins engine is noticeably - fifteen percent - more economical.

Its distinctive feature is also its torque in the range from 1000 to 1600 rpm. The Cummins-6LTAA engine has at least 20% power reserve. Efficient operation of the turbine simultaneously increases engine power and reduces the amount of fuel consumed. This is a modern engine from the company, a world leader in the production of diesel engines. Cummins is headquartered in the United States; The main production is in China. Licensed Cummins engines are also made in our country.

The engine compartment is located at the rear. This had a positive effect not only on protecting the operator’s workplace from noise and vibration. This arrangement provides easy access to the main systems and components for more convenient service. The engine is protected from overheating by powerful air compressors with automatically cleaned filters.

Transmission and chassis

The transmission on the Acros-580 is hydrostatic type. The gearbox is three-speed. Across the field, while harvesting, the combine moves at a speed of 10-15 km/h; during transportation – up to 30 km/h.

The steering is complemented by symmetrical automatic control, creating the necessary balance between the wheels. This allows you to control the operating parameters of the system. If each of them is rejected, the voice warning system is activated. The steering wheel can be adjusted to suit the height of the operator of any height. Drive wheel tire type: 30.5L /R32; steered wheels: 18.4/ R24.

Hydraulic system

Hydraulics on Akros-580 combines are made in Germany; consists of several interconnected highly specialized modules: main, steering, reel drive and chassis drive. The operation of all modules is ensured by a single tank and a powerful, efficient hydraulic pump.

Engine

The first modifications of the Akros 550 combine received the domestic engine YaMZ 236BE and YaMZ 236BE-2 (Yaroslavl Motor Plant). The 4-stroke diesel engine had a 20 percent power reserve, which made it possible to pass even difficult sections. The unit has earned a reputation as one of the most reliable and high-quality Russian diesel engines. The V-twin engine with direct fuel injection and turbocharging is currently used in combines, trucks and tractors.

The YaMZ 236BE engine has a liquid cooling system with forced circulation. The unit is equipped with a mechanical fuel injection pump.

The peasants make fun (and quite rightly) of the developers of the Akros combines for their craving for foreign names for the components and individual components of agricultural machines. Indeed, combines are sold in Russia and other republics of the former USSR, and not in Britain and the USA, so why do they have stupid English names, similar to the cheap “spells” of annoying advertisements?

Putin (who, together with the Minister of Agriculture Alexei Gordeev and Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov personally inspected the combine) had not yet had time to admire the Akros-530 cabin, wondering how comfortable the work of a combine operator could become, when Rostselmash had already released a new generation cabin – “Comfort Cab II”.

From the Akros-580 cabin there is an excellent view.

It has improved sealing characteristics. And, accordingly, noise, vibration, thermal and dust protection. The sprung double cabin is equipped with air conditioning, a heater, a cooling chamber for drinks, an audio system, and a voice announcement. According to farmers, you only want to enter such a cabin wearing clean clothes. And there is no desire to leave her during work. This is understandable.

Modifications and features

Acros 585 PCM 142 is part of a large series, which again includes the Acros 580 model. Structurally, they are practically no different. There were no global changes in the combine compared to its predecessor, but some improvements made it possible to increase productivity and improve the quality of work. In the Akros 585 RSM 142 version the following appeared:

  • larger area treatment system;
  • beaterless feeder chamber of increased length;
  • single hydraulic connector;
  • a more comfortable workplace;
  • separated sieves in the cleaning chamber;
  • bunker with moisture protection.

Other advantages of Acros 585 RSM 142:

  • small hopper capacity.

Harvester header "Akros-580"

Like other Akros modifications, the 580th model is equipped with unified Power Stream headers, with a working width of 6.7 or 9 meters. This header is rightly considered the most progressive and technologically advanced in the entire post-Soviet space, not inferior to the most modern European models.

Largely thanks to the “Level Glide” longitudinal-transverse copying of the soil relief introduced on the header. In practical terms, this means efficient use of the entire length of the header on uneven fields.

This header features a lightweight yet durable design; increased diameter of the reel rake pipes; combined disks and beams of the reel, its hydraulic drive; reels the rake with double fingers. The header barrel is elongated, with an additional counter-cutting surface in the cutting apparatus. The gap between the conveyor slats and the bottom of the feeder chamber with beater-normalizer has been increased by 40 mm.

An important feature of the Acros-580 combine header is that the progressive planetary drive of the Schumacher knives, which in the 530 Acros was available only as an additional option, is installed here as standard, as standard. "Schumacher" works smoothly, accurately, without wearing out, with a high cutting frequency (1080 strokes per minute). The double cutting edge ensures fast and clean cuts with minimal wastage.

Separately, the combine is equipped with special headers for harvesting corn and sunflowers.

Operating experience of Akros-580

On the Internet it is very difficult, almost impossible, to find negative reviews about the operation of Akros-580 combines. Owners of farms and peasant farms (and most of them went through the harsh school of harvesting on the old SK-5 Niva combines and the like) speak only in superlatives about the new Rostov combines.

In 2013, in the fields of the Sergeevskoye agricultural enterprise in the Podgorensky district of the Voronezh region, the Aprotek agricultural holding organized a “fair duel” of eight modern models of combine harvesters, among which was the Akros-580. The tests took place within 1 hour on fields sown with winter wheat with a yield of 39-41 centners per hectare.

All combines were placed in absolutely identical conditions. According to the protocol, as a result of this test drive, Akros-580 surpassed its competitors (among which, by the way, were the well-known Klaas and John Deere) in all key parameters.

In particular, Acros-580 demonstrated the best performance, threshing 16.85 tons of wheat in an hour. This is more than the rest, from 1 to 9%. At the same time, it turned out to be the most economical in terms of fuel consumption - 7.22 liters per hectare.

The high power of the engines of imported combines did a disservice in this case: with lower productivity, it forced them to burn one and a half times more fuel per hectare.

Thirdly, experts recorded the smallest grain losses during harvesting in the 580 Akros - only 0.35% (while other combines lost from 0.4 to 3%). All this was recorded in the final protocol of the agricultural holding.

At first, peasants were wary of the new combine harvesters (“they will break down like Zhiguli”), but over the past years of operation (the 530th went into production in 2007, the 580th in 2011) they became convinced of their reliability. Reviews about the Akros-580 are similar: productive, durable combines that do not “suffocate” or overheat, unlike similar imported equipment. Parts are easy to get and dealers are fast. Again, in contrast to foreign equipment, when spare parts often have to be purchased to order and wait a long time.

For a used Akros-580 combine harvester from 2011-2014, they ask from 4 million rubles. But there are very few advertisements for the sale of these agricultural machines.
