The products of TPK Rostselmash are in demand because they leave no doubt about their quality and are considered competitive in the global market for specialized agricultural equipment. Not so long ago, Rostovites were able to surprise not only Russian farmers, but also global manufacturers of agricultural equipment, releasing the Torum combine harvester in 2009.
The first batch of Torum-740 combines off the assembly line, on the initiative of the Ministry of Industry of the Russian Federation, was tested in 2011, in which combine harvesters from foreign competitors took part: the American John Deere STS-9670, the Belgian New Holland CSX-7080, and the German Deutz Fahr. In the same competitive conditions, based on the results of its work, the Russian combine was recognized as the undisputed leader.
In the allotted hour, the following results were recorded:

Design features of "Torum-750"
Accordingly, the native element of “Torum” can be called large agro-industrial farms, with large sown areas and consistently high yields per hectare. After all, the more the combine is loaded, the more efficient, economical and profitable its operation becomes.
The Torum-750 header is a universal device with a working width of 6.7 or 9 meters, also used on other new Rostov combines “Power Stream”. The pick-up working width is 3.4 meters. The header is equipped with a high-speed planetary gearbox of the Schumacher system. The speed of movement of the knives is 1080 strokes/min.
The main advantage of Torum-750 is high performance.
The Power Stream header is equipped with an effective “Level Glide” terrain following system, crop lifters and a special trolley for transporting the header, as standard equipment of the combine. Synchronization of the reel speed with the speed of the combine occurs in serial mode.
In addition to the fact that this combine provides high productivity, it is also well suited for working with “difficult” breads: curled, clogged, moistened. Its consistently high-quality work in any conditions is ensured by both the already mentioned modern “Strong Flow” header and the technologically advanced, unique “Advanced Rotor System” threshing system (“ARS”, “Progressive Rotor System”).
The progressiveness of this system lies in the fact that it combines three innovative technological solutions. These are: inclined beater chamber; a rotor in which a rotating deck is used; and a rotor drive of a stepless design.
Advantages and disadvantages
In addition to high performance indicators, the TORUM 780 combine has the following advantages:
- The standard version of the chassis can optionally be replaced with an all-wheel drive version or a half-track propulsion system.
- The cabin is a two-seater, sprung, with an increased level of comfort.
- The main elements are controlled using a manipulator.
- -possibility of using several headers.
Among the disadvantages, one can highlight the high cost of the equipment, which significantly exceeds the price range for models of a similar class. In addition, when operating equipment at peak power, fuel consumption increases significantly, despite the manufacturer’s assurances to the contrary. Note that the existing shortcomings do not cover the existing advantages. In addition, the model range is regularly improved, so there is a possibility that design flaws will be corrected in the near future.
Inclined beater chamber device
The inclined beater chamber of the rotor system is designed in such a way that it provides greater throughput with less energy consumption. Its design uses advanced Feed and Boots technology.
In the inclined chamber, special beaters evenly level the compressed mass of ears and give it additional speed before entering the rotor. Ensuring this always uniform Feed & Boost adds stability to all downstream processes and reduces overall energy consumption.
The benefits of a feeder chamber become apparent when working on dissimilar windrows of different sizes and structures, as well as when there are high levels of moisture or debris in the harvested crops.
Benchmark tests have demonstrated that, compared to a conventional slat conveyor, this new principle results in a 20 percent increase in feeder throughput, while reducing energy consumption by 15 percent.
About the Toruma rotor system - ARS: details
For the purpose of unification, as well as to reduce the time for connecting/disconnecting adapters, Torums of all models are equipped with the same hydraulic connectors, made so that various contaminants simply cannot enter the hydraulic system.
Rotor speed adjustment is stepless. The rotor is driven by a planetary variator and controlled by a hydraulic motor. It is impossible not to note the provision of extremely accurate and smooth adjustment of the rotor speed throughout its entire available operating range.
The main element of the ARS rotary system is the rotating deck. Compared to a conventional stationary one, it provides a larger threshing area, allowing the full potential of the rotary threshing device to be used, increasing its overall productivity.
On large grain areas, Torum is at home.
The movable deck provides more options when working on wet or clogged grains; on rice. Because it becomes impossible to form the usual stagnation zones under the traditional system; the deck's ability to self-clean appears. In this case, there is about an 8-10 percent reduction in energy consumption of the entire threshing process.
The ARS system uses an advanced three-point threshing system. The deck has 3 threshing sections, allowing you to set the level of the threshing gap in a uniform section. As a result, the mass is threshed 3 times during one full revolution of the rotor. But in conventional threshing and separating devices, the mass is threshed only once per full revolution.
Features of the threshed grain cleaning system on the Torum-750
Torum-750 combines are equipped with a modern two-stage cleaning system. An additionally blown cascade is created using another sieve. The system is perfectly balanced: the shaking board with the lower sieve moves in one direction, and the massive upper sieve moves in antiphase to them. As a result, the total cleaning area increases and amounts to 5.2 square meters.
Work with the non-grain part of the crop is standard, as with other combines: chopping and scattering, or stacking. But it should be noted that it cuts the straw really finely, literally “into dust,” and scatters this crushed mass clearly across the width of the header, ensuring its even distribution across the field. Chopped straw is scattered along with the chaff. The chopping drum speed varies from 1600 to 3400 rpm.
Prices in Russia for new combines
A year ago, combine harvesters of the 750 model could be purchased from official dealers of Rostselmash for RUB 14,103,600; at a discounted price established by a decree of the Russian Federation - for 11,988,056 rubles. Only large agricultural enterprises can afford to buy new equipment in Russia. Average agricultural producers are unlikely to decide on such expenses, and the market for used Torum combines has not yet developed, as well as the rental price.
This year, Rostselmash decided to expand its portfolio of financial programs. She offers to take advantage of a unique leasing program that allows you to buy agricultural equipment on favorable terms. Thanks to this service, even medium-sized agricultural companies will have a chance to purchase a new Torum combine.

The power flow is transmitted to the rotor drive, working parts and chassis through the power take-off gearbox along the shortest path, for real optimization of energy losses. In conjunction with the engine, there is a transmission, which includes a two-range manual gearbox with electrical control, and a planetary gear with a hydraulic motor for varying rotor speed.
In a stepless and smooth mode, the speed of movement of the combine, the operation of the front equipment and the threshing-separating device are adjusted and coordinated. The loading of the working path of the Torum-750 combine is optimized depending on the condition of the field.
The basic package of the Torum-750 combine also includes an air compressor - a thing, of course, necessary for daily maintenance of equipment in the absence of a technical support vehicle.
To harvest corn for grain, the Torum-750 combine is equipped with eight- or twelve-row headers, providing a productivity of up to six hectares per hour. The rotor deck grilles are replaced with specialized “corn” ones. Additional equipment is also used when harvesting rapeseed, sunflower, soybeans, and small-seeded crops.
"Torum-750" is deservedly called the leader in rice harvesting. To work in “wet” checks, instead of wheels, half-tracks are installed on a strong front axle. High-quality cutting of tangled and hard rice stalks is ensured by a header with a double cutting fingerless device and a special visor on the table.
Analogs
It is difficult to determine which of the new combines can be considered an analogue of the Torum, because each has its own purpose, which determines the demand. Among the most popular among farmers, combine harvesters of new models are most often mentioned:
- VECTOR 450 Track - with a crawler chassis for a larger support area. This option is designed specifically for use in swampy places where rice grows and other difficult soil conditions.
- ACROS 595. Adapted to any operating conditions. Recognized as the best technology in its class.
- RSM 161 is a machine with a productivity of up to 40 t/h. Designed for harvesting cereals, legumes, oilseeds, cereals and row crops.
Cabin of the Torum-750 combine
“Torums” are equipped with a modern sealed cabin “Comfort Cab-2”, which is characterized by large panoramic glazing and enhanced noise/dust/vibration insulation. This cabin, which is also equipped with Akros and Vectors, is generally a source of pride. Indeed, machine operators of yesteryear could not even dream of such a level of comfort. Without exaggeration, you can literally work in such a cabin “in a snow-white shirt.”
In the cabin of the Torum-750 combine there is a comfortable sprung seat with five adjustments for the operator, plus an additional folding soft seat for the helmsman. The reach of the steering wheel can be adjusted to tailor the workplace to suit you. The main control element of the combine is the handle on the GST lever. This versatile manipulator connects 16 different critical functions.
The combine operator's workplace is equipped at Torum with the latest technology.
Other control functions are integrated into the right armrest and combined into a convenient remote control. The status of the main functional systems, current information on the threshing process, and various combine settings are displayed on the “Adviser-3” color touch display. The “Advisor” information system, with a voice notification function, is equipped with presets for harvesting 14 crops, as well as the ability to remember individual user settings.
The standard equipment of the Torum-750 combine includes a climate control system with multiple deflectors, a cooling chamber for drinks, and basic audio preparation (antenna and speakers), which ensures comfortable working conditions for the operator.
Reviews from owners of Torum-750 combines
Torum-750 has been producing rotary combines relatively recently - since 2011. Their cost is very high, at the level of foreign analogues. This is a powerful deterrent to the spread of this technology in agriculture. Still, there are not many truly large agro-industrial farms in the CIS, the notorious “millionaire collective farms” that can afford such powerful and modern equipment.
Accordingly, there are few reviews about the Torum-750 combines on the Internet. The good news is that there are no negative ones among them. Basically, the owners of “Torums” speak about them quite succinctly: “serves for 4 years, no complaints”; “the losses are really very small, that’s good”; “The grain comes out very clean, I have never seen such pure grain in my practice,” etc.
By the way, soon after mass production, Torum combines were tested by Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev. It was October 25, 2011 at the Rodina agricultural enterprise in the Stavropol region. After the director of the enterprise told him about the products, the president and prime minister worked as combine operators, and each of them collected six tons of harvest. They worked, however, not on Torum-750, but on Torum-740.
The first persons of the state in the fields of the Rodina farm.
In the same year 2011, namely on July 9, official tests were carried out by the Ministry of Industry of the Russian Federation with the participation of four combines: Torum-740, John Deere STS-9670 (USA), New Holland CSX-7080 ( Belgium), Deutz Fahr (Germany). The tests took place in the area of activity of the North Caucasus Machine Testing Station (with the participation of the Kuban Machine Testing Station).
All combines worked under the same conditions - on the same field, harvesting winter wheat with a yield of up to 46.5 c/ha. Based on the results of the competition, which were witnessed by numerous outside observers (there were even representatives of an American company), the Russian Torum combine harvester surpassed its rivals!
The productivity for one hour of main time was: "Torum" - 26.87 tons/hour, "John Deere" - 21.0 tons/hour, "New Holland" - 20.93 tons/hour. "Deutz Fahr" - 17.7 t/h. The control consumption of diesel fuel was, respectively, and in the same order: 1.54 kg/t; 1.58kg/t; 1.50kg/t, 1.86kg/t. The bunker grain quality indicators correspond to crushing: 0.2% - Torum, 0.2% - John Deere, 1.7% - New Holland and 0.8% - Deutz Far. The content of impurities in the bunker: 0.15%, 0.43%, 0.20%, 0.20%, respectively.
General indicators of TORUM combines
A promising development that uses both domestic and imported components is the combine harvesters of Rostselmash OJSC. One such machine is capable of harvesting an area of more than 2,000 hectares per season. It can process more than 40 tons per hour of work. During production tests, it was found that more than 300 tons of grain were threshed per shift.
Tip #1. It is advisable to use Torum combines in large areas, more than 1000 hectares. Only in this case can you count on a quick loan repayment. Now only new products are on sale, the price of which, even under the preferential purchase program, exceeds 11 million rubles.
Currently, several modifications of Torum are produced. The characteristics are shown in the table.
Indicators | Models of Torum combine harvesters | |||

Not everyone takes into account the high cost of the combine. But by purchasing additional equipment for harvesting rapeseed, rice, corn or sunflower, you can extend the life of the machine with a slight increase in price. Crops under rapeseed and sunflower are currently expanding noticeably. Therefore, the combine load can be increased two to three times.
