The main advantages of the LTZ-60 include ride stability, easy control, automatic engagement of the front drive axle, which increases the slipping characteristics of the rear wheels, and the presence of full reverse for all gears.
All-wheel drive in this model was engaged when driving on sticky soil; the rest of the time, movement was carried out by the rear axle. The steering mechanism of the LTZ-60 was hydrostatic, having an additional hydraulic cylinder in the trapezoid; the braking system acted on all wheels and was of the belt type.
The model received a dry, single-plate, friction clutch with an additional independent power take-off shaft coupling and an eight-speed gearbox with reverse for each gear. The LTZ-60 had dry band brakes and a parking brake, which was activated by the drive to the main wheels.
The LTZ-60 cabin was distinguished by a high level of comfort, which made it possible to use the tractor in almost any climatic conditions (low temperatures in the north and mild and warm climates in the south). The model's cabin had reliable protection from noise and vibration and was completely sealed. The large glass area allowed the driver to fully observe the surrounding area. The tractor driver's seat was made taking into account the latest comfort requirements: it was adjusted using a built-in lever to suit a certain build and height, which minimized the feeling of discomfort even during long-term work. The angle of the backrest was also set independently. The shock absorbers successfully absorbed most of the vibrations that appeared when driving over uneven surfaces. The cabin had a heating system (autonomous heater) and ventilation (through opening windows on the side windows). These qualities had a positive effect on labor efficiency and productivity.

The tractor controls were located next to the workplace. They were constantly in front of my eyes. Maintenance and repair of the LTZ-60 did not cause much trouble. The units and assemblies used in the configuration of special equipment were distinguished by a large margin of safety and were perfectly prepared for operation in difficult conditions. Progressive solutions made it possible to reduce dynamic loads on individual parts of the tractor, which increased the service life. Thanks to the hood type of body, access to the engine turned out to be very convenient, which facilitated service maintenance. With regular inspection and monitoring of the level of liquids in the system elements without major repairs, the LTZ-60 could serve for a long time.
How much does LTZ-60 cost new and used?
The cost of LTZ-60 depends on many parameters. Among them: – novelty (outdated cars are offered at a much lower price); - technical condition. Even excellent technology can be reduced to a deplorable state in just a few years. The cost of a tractor with serious problems will not be as high; – modification. The Lipetsk Tractor Plant produced several fundamentally different versions of the LTZ-60 with engines from different manufacturers. Externally, the models differed only in the shape of the cabin, but their prices were different. The price for a used LTZ-60 is unlikely to be too high under any conditions. Thus, LTZ-60AV from 1998-2002 is offered at a cost of 170,000-250,000 rubles.
Analogs
In addition to various modifications of the LTZ-60 tractor itself and the T-40 tractor, its analogues include products of the Minsk and Kharkov tractor plants. However, they differ in greater power and cost.
The Lipetsk Tractor Plant was founded in 1943 on the basis of the Stankostroy enterprise. Production of crawler tractors began in 1945. Since the late 50s, the company switched to the production of wheeled vehicles. In 1988, the LTZ-155 integrated tractor was created, designed to perform any agricultural work.
In 2004, the plant was declared bankrupt, but then became part of the Tractor Plants group of enterprises. Most of the production facilities are closed and in dilapidated condition. Small-scale production of products is carried out using imported parts.
Tractor LTZ-60
The production of the Lipetsk tractor began in 1991. It was decided to improve the previous model, the T-40, which was outdated and definitely needed improvement. The result was a fairly light and inexpensive car, very economical in fuel consumption, stable on the move and easy to operate. It could even compete with the most popular tractor model of that time - MTZ-80.
The designers provided full reverse for any gear, resulting in increased maneuverability. And the fact that automatic equipment was installed on the front axle (which is the drive axle) eliminated slipping of the rear wheels.
The hood type of the body allows easy access to the engine for maintenance. The large cabin, protected from noise and vibration, is equipped with a heating and ventilation system, and the driver can adjust the comfortable seat to his weight and height.
The ability to connect with various agricultural machines and equipment (more than 120 types, all of which are compatible with the MTZ-80) made it possible to use the tractor for any rural work, and not only. During production, several modifications of the tractor were developed to increase the possibilities of its use. After the bankruptcy of the plant in 2004 and its reorganization, this model ceased to be produced.

The lineup
The first machines of the Lipetsk plant were the KD-35 and KDP-35 tracked tractors. Later, the plant began producing wheeled chassis SSh-30 and 30A, intended for agricultural work. In parallel, the plant developed the LTZ-30 wheeled vehicle with rear axle drive and the LTZ-35 modification equipped with all-wheel drive. For several decades in a row, the plant produced the LTZ-40 tractor and machines based on it. In the 90s, production of the modernized LTZ-55 began, and then LTZ-60.
After the bankruptcy procedure, the Lipetsk plant continued the production of universal wheeled vehicles of models 60AB, 120, 95AB and 155, as well as removable and attached equipment with hydraulic and mechanical drives.
History of creation
The history of the LTZ-60 tractor began at the Lipetsk Tractor Plant (LTZ), created in 1943 on the basis of the production facilities of the large industrial enterprise Stankostroy. At the same time, a small workers’ settlement began to be organized nearby, called “Traktorny”. The first to be produced at LTZ was the Kirovets-35 tracked tractor, which had a gasoline engine. Wheeled modifications of this heavy equipment began to be produced at the enterprise in 1957.
During the operation of the Lipetsk Tractor Plant, many different models of tractors rolled off its assembly line. These were mainly all-wheel drive modifications. Already in 1970, LTZ manufactured more than half a million tractors. The plant produced the most T-40 tractors, the production of which lasted from 1961 to 1995. During this period, the company produced about 1,196 thousand different modifications of the T-40 for the national economy. The all-wheel drive tractor LTZ-60, which replaced the obsolete T-40, began production in 1991.
LTZ-40
A wheeled tractor with a traction category of 0.9 t was produced by the Lipetsk plant from 1961 to 1995. The car sold 1.2 million copies and received the nickname “Sorokovka” among drivers. The tractor was produced in a version with drive on the rear axle, as well as on front and rear wheels.
Early versions of the LTZ T-40 tractor were equipped with a 4-cylinder D-37 diesel engine. After modernization, the base tractor received the designation LTZ-40M and began to be equipped with a D-144 diesel engine (the first releases of the engine were designated D-37E). Engine power is 37 and 50 hp. With. respectively. The installation of a modernized engine led to a change in the shape of the hood: early versions had rounded edges, later versions had a rectangular hood.
The engine is equipped with an air cooling system. Air is forced into a casing mounted on the side of the cylinders. The deflector system directs the air flow between the ribs made on the side surface of the cylinders and heads. Under the casing there is a tubular oil radiator, connected in the summer for additional cooling.
To start the engine, an electric starter with an operating voltage of 12 V was used. Small batches of tractors were equipped with a 1-cylinder PD8 starting gasoline engine with a power of 8 hp. With. The engine was equipped with a cylinder and a head with fins that provided cooling. To make starting easier, a decompression mechanism is used. A spark plug is installed in the intake manifold to heat the air. As a separate order, a starting device was installed that sprayed a flammable liquid.
Traction class 1.4 is intended for the cultivation of row crops, continuous plowing and other general purpose work; sowing grains and grasses; harvesting row crops and cereal crops, performing transport and loading and unloading operations.
The design of the tractor ensures optimal use of traction power when performing certain jobs. The weight of the tractor is reduced compared to the weight of analogues. The designers have optimized the weight distribution of the LTZ-60 tractor units on the front and rear axles. All this ensures fuel savings and reduces production costs. This is confirmed by the results of state tests together with the MTZ-80 tractor. The undoubted advantages of the design of the LTZ-60 tractor include: easy control and stability; the presence of full reverse in all gears, which increases maneuverability; automatic engagement of the front drive axle, which has a positive effect on the slip characteristics of the rear wheels.
The LTZ-60 tractor has a sealed, noise-vibration-insulated cabin with a ventilation and heating system, a large glass surface and a comfortable seat, adjustable for the height and weight of the driver. This allows you to operate the tractor in any climate zone. Our tractors are successfully operated not only in Russia, but also abroad.
The tractor is aggregated with more than 120 machines and implements, covering the entire range of agricultural work. The wide possibilities of aggregation of the LTZ-60 tractor allow it to be used not only for agricultural work, but also in construction, forestry, landscaping, earthworks, etc. LTZ JSC produces a wide range of municipal equipment based on the LTZ-60. The LTZ-60 tractor is aggregated with most agricultural machines and accessories for the MTZ-80 tractor.
The Lipetsk Tractor Plant produces several modifications of the LTZ-60 tractor. LTZ-60AV has a D65M1L diesel engine from the Rybinsk Motor Plant with water cooling, LTZ-60AB is equipped with a D248 diesel engine from the Minsk Motor Plant with water cooling. LTZ-60A has an air-cooled diesel engine D144 from the Vladimir Tractor Plant. A modification of the LTZ-60AV-01 tractor is used to service old-style farms and has a lower cabin height.

Design changes for LTZ-60A/AB tractors
- The steering has been changed. A hydrostatic control with a hydraulic cylinder in the steering linkage was installed, which made it possible to reduce the force on the steering wheel.
- A modernized cabin of the LTZ-60ABT tractor has been developed, which allows, by increasing the volume of the cabin, to improve the working conditions of the tractor driver, improves the appearance of the tractor, which allows increasing the sale of tractors.
- Installation of fiberglass parts of the upper structure of the tractor: roof, hood, front and rear wings of the cab to improve the appearance of the tractor.
- Installation of two types of diesel engines: produced by OJSC VMTZ D144 - air cooled;
- produced by Unitary Enterprise "MMZ" D248 - water cooling;
- allowing the operation of the LTZ-60 tractor in various climatic zones not only in Russia, but also in all countries of the world.
The products of the Lipetsk Tractor Plant are in great demand among consumers. Sufficiently powerful, economical and durable general-purpose wheeled station wagons have proven themselves in all respects in technologies for growing grain and vegetable crops, livestock farming, and in urban utilities.
The LTZ-60 tractor is a modified version of the transition tractor, which was developed on the basis of the popular all-wheel drive tractor.
The operational capabilities of the new machine of traction category 1.4 include:
- lower metal consumption of the structure;
- increasing the efficiency and economy of the power plant;
- compatibility with 120 types of components for various purposes;
- optimal distribution of the weight of the tractor unit on the chassis;
- improved cross-country ability due to high ground clearance, locking the rear axle differential mechanism and engaging front-wheel drive.
The new LTZ-60 tractor compares favorably with its analogues from the Minsk plant due to its lower cost, economical maintenance, and can be successfully combined with branded attachments and those designed for tractor equipment of other brands with a power of up to 100 hp.
The 60th model, successful in many respects, became the basis for the creation of several versions, differing in the type and power of power units, changes in the design of the transmission and the tractor as a whole.

Engine and transmission
Unlike previous models, the tractor is equipped with a four-cylinder air-cooled diesel engine of the D-144 brand. The power of the 60-horsepower engine, with an average fuel consumption of 9 liters per hour of operation, is used with high efficiency thanks to the high torque of 221.4 Nm with a 15% reserve.
The LTZ-60AB and 60AV modifications received the D-144 and D-65M1L diesel engines. The traction and other performance characteristics of both power units do not differ significantly. The useful volume of fuel tanks of all models is within 70 liters.
The engine is started by a powerful electric starter. For the full operation of lighting and control equipment, as well as recharging the batteries, a 700-watt generator with a built-in voltage regulator is used.
- The transmission design includes a single-disc friction clutch, a reverse eight-speed gearbox and band brake mechanisms.
- The gearbox provides a wide range of operating and transport speed modes from 1.83 to 30 km/h.
- Activation of the working mechanisms of attachments is carried out by connecting to two power take-off shafts operating in synchronous and independent modes.
- The all-wheel drive of the tractor unit is activated to eliminate slipping of the drive wheels of the rear axle or when the tractor is moving along waterlogged sections of dirt roads. The steering is equipped with a simple and reliable hydraulic power steering.

Main modifications
LTZ-60A
The model differed in that it was equipped with a different diesel engine - D-144, with an air cooling system and an axial fan. This engine was produced in Vladimir, at the tractor plant. Its volume is 4.15 liters, torque is 221.4 Nm, and the power is the same as that of the D65M1L - 60 horsepower. The tractor allows you to hang equipment up to 850 kg.
LTZ-60AV
The model has been produced since 1994. It is practically no different from the base one - it still has the same diesel engine produced in Rybinsk.
The LTZ-60AV-01 unit was somewhat different, which had a lowered cabin and was intended for use on farms.
Advantages and disadvantages
During preliminary tests, the new machine showed excellent results in terms of ease of movement and stability when working on steep terrain.
For the better, the high cross-country ability of the chassis, the presence of gearbox reverse, the ability to adjust ruts and agricultural clearance, differential locks and automatic engagement of front-wheel drive were noted.
The 60th LTZ model is characterized by:
- high unification of spare parts with the previous intermediate model LTZ-55;
- interchangeability of individual components and mechanisms;
- affordable cost of consumables;
- the possibility of independent maintenance and repair at a distance from the place of permanent deployment.
The machine was initially designed for operation in difficult conditions. This is facilitated by the optimal distribution of dynamic and static loads in the design of the tractor itself, increasing the strength characteristics of the transmission and chassis.
The list of shortcomings:
- problems with cold starting of the main engine when the temperature on the thermometer drops below -10°C;
- hanging valves of the onboard hydraulic system distributor;
- discrepancy between the strength of the threaded fastener copied from the T-40 tractor clutch and the higher power of the new power unit. This design and production flaw has been eliminated in the LTZ-60 AB version of the base vehicle.
Price of new and used tractor
The last copy of this model left the factory assembly line in 2008, so the likelihood of purchasing a new tractor is practically close to zero. You can obtain the status of owner of the LTZ-60 tractor by purchasing a used car.
The offers on the domestic market for the sale of used equipment are few, however, you can find an option in good technical condition and with a significant reserve between repairs.
The cost of such a tractor ranges from 5-6 thousand USD. Offers in a lower price range are, as a rule, worn-out equipment that requires significant expenses to restore performance.

Analogs
Identical operational capabilities of Minsk tractors and. The list includes a more powerful and improved version of the base model in a number of parameters - the LTZ-60AT tractor. In the imported assortment, several similar Chinese-made machines have similar characteristics.
The LTZ 60 tractor is considered to be multifunctional when using mounted devices and can be used in various areas: in agriculture, forestry or construction. In 1995, a modified version of the LTZ 60av was released, which featured improved performance and increased comfort.
Production continued until 2004, namely until the plant was closed. Until 2008, the company formed was part of the Agromashholding concern, which produced spare parts and components for tractors. Today the plant produces modern units and all the equipment necessary for them.

- The LTZ 60A wheeled unit has a reduced engine capacity with a retained power of 60 hp. Produced by the Vladimir Motor Plant.
- The LTZ 60AB modification was produced at the Minsk plant and was equipped with a diesel engine with a power of 57 hp. and water cooling. It was this modification that could boast a large load capacity of 0.9 tons.
- The LTZ 60AV was equipped with a liquid-cooled D65M1L engine. The steering wheel was equipped with a hydraulic booster, and the cabin was increased in size.
- LTZ 60AB-10 is a more improved version of the multifunctional wheeled vehicle.
- LTZ 60AB-01 is a model with a slight change in cabin height.
At the moment, an updated tractor of the LTZ-60AB series is being produced at the Lipetsk Tractor production site.

The degree of vibration absorption is quite high, which allows the driver to get less tired during the working day. The design assumes an even distribution of mass on the front and rear axles, at which the pressure on the soil is minimal, which is especially important when weeding agricultural plants between rows.
Features of use
Speaking about the versatility of the machine, the manufacturer states that the LTZ 60 does not require running-in. The tractor goes on sale completely ready for work, including with a hitch.
However, experienced tractor owners advise conducting a short test of all systems before starting work:
- Power supply.
- Checking the reliability and quality of the battery.
- The steering wheel should play no more than 25 degrees when the hydraulic pump is running.
- Ensure that the oil and fuel systems are tight and that any leaks are excluded.
- There should be a rubber mat in the tractor cab.
- The windshield wipers should work.
