The best models of Nova combine harvesters from the Rostselmash plant

The Nova combine is a modern grain harvesting equipment designed for farms with land plots from 50 to 500 hectares. The unit is designed for harvesting the main industrial crops: row crops, grains, legumes, rapeseeds.

Nova is an alternative to the common SK-5 Niva model, adapted to domestic operating conditions and has maximum localization.

After conducting pilot production tests of harvesting equipment, the following conclusions were made:

  • productivity increased by 10%;
  • improved versatility of working on different crops;
  • reduced labor intensity of maintenance;
  • operator comfort has improved.

The main advantages of the model include:

  • high ground clearance for uneven terrain;
  • the ability to install larger wheels for working on land with reduced load-bearing capacity;
  • four-wheel drive;
  • automation of all working parts.

The manufacturer of the combine is the Russian company Rostselmash.

Rostselmash is one of the best manufacturers of agricultural machinery in Russia. The priority direction of the enterprise’s work is the construction of combine harvesters (grain harvesters and feed harvesters). In recent years, the manufacturer has been offering current new products at an affordable price. An increasing number of farmers are purchasing machinery and additional equipment (reapers for various types of crops) from Rostselmash, because the manufacturer offers not only a large selection of equipment, but also favorable purchasing conditions.

Combine harvesters of the s300 Nova series are indispensable assistants in small farms: they have the same advantages as their popular predecessor SK-5 Niva-Effect, but the manufacturer has replaced a number of components, which has increased productivity and improved performance characteristics.

Nova combine harvester engines

Rostselmash uses two types of diesel engines for Nova combine harvesters. The Nova-320 model is equipped with an in-line six-cylinder Cummins 6BTA diesel engine with a power of 123 kW (167 hp), a displacement of 5.9 liters, Stage II. A simple traditional design with mechanical adjustment of diesel fuel supply is not demanding on fuel quality, can withstand high sulfur content in diesel fuel and is highly maintainable.

But for the Nova-340 model, an in-line four-cylinder engine YaMZ-53425 with a power of 132 kW (179 hp), at 2200 rpm, a displacement of 4.43 liters, Stage IIIa is used. The maximum engine torque is 690 Nm at 1300-1600 rpm (with a torque reserve of 20 percent).

The YaMZ-53425 diesel engine is equipped with a Common Rail electronic fuel injection system, providing high injection pressure - up to 180 MPa. This helps reduce fuel consumption and maintain a consistently high power density. All efficiency indicators are displayed by the Adviser information system. The specific diesel fuel consumption of the YaMZ-53425 engine is 176 g/hp. at one o'clock.

The engine is equipped with a diesel fuel consumption control system, and can optionally be equipped with an air compressor.

The total fuel consumption is estimated at 2 kg per 1 ton of threshed grain, under ordinary grain harvesting conditions.

Main nodes

Engine

One of the first elements open to the general public was the engine. The S300 Nova will be equipped with the Russian YaMZ-53405 engine, adapted specifically for this model at Yaroslavsky. Minimum fuel consumption is ensured by an electronic control system.

  • Engine - YaMZ 534, in-line
  • Power - 132 kW / 180 hp. at 2000 rpm
  • Engine capacity - 4.43l
  • Torque reserve - 20%
  • Specific minimum fuel consumption – 193 g/kWh

Chassis

The new combine has a fairly high ground clearance of half a meter, which is excellent for fields with complex terrain, and wider tires can be installed to reduce the load on the soil. There is also the option of installing all-wheel drive. Small dimensions provide a small turning radius, only 7.5 meters. When transporting the header, a special trolley is provided, thanks to which you can use wide adapters and maintain mobility.

Transmission

The gearbox is hydrostatic, three-speed. One of the main advantages over many of its classmates is the fuel consumption control system, which is very important for the maximum balance of economy and performance.

Reaper

Depending on the customer’s wishes, the kit can include PowerStream series headers with a width of 4, 5 or 6 meters. Its features include a relief copying system and synchronization of the reel speed with the operating speed of the combine.

Separation system

The straw walker has also been seriously changed, the area of which has increased and now amounts to 4.3 square meters. Thanks to 4 keys, the length of which is 3.6 meters, the system works much more efficiently than many of its classmates and is much more gentle on the straw itself. It is possible to order a stacker with a volume of 9 cubic meters.

Cabin

Cabin and comfort now play an equally important role in the overall assessment of agricultural machinery. Gone are the days when working on the land was a dirty job, and in the 21st century, modern agricultural machinery is as convenient as conventional cars. Here you have an air conditioner, a refrigerator, and maximum automation of the process.

The NOVA combine is equipped with a cabin in the ComfortCab configuration. Its features:

  • Panoramic view
  • Double
  • Tightness, enhanced sound insulation
  • Air conditioning, heating system, cooling chamber
  • Asdviser II information system with voice notification and situational framing

Transmission and chassis of the Nova-340 combine

The hydrostatic transmission of this agricultural machine provides three forward speeds and one reverse speed. And the maximum transport speed of the combine, which has an operating weight of 11 tons, reaches 30 km/h.

The small dimensions of the combine ensure a modest turning radius: only 7.5 meters. For convenient transportation of the header, a special trailer is provided, thanks to which you can use wide adapters and still maintain full mobility.

S-300 series

The fact that the S300 Nova series is a replacement for the Niva is no secret. The main target segment will be small farms that simply do not need to buy expensive and productive combines. Even the name differs in just one letter, it was Niva, it became Nova. However, this is a completely different technique, modern and more productive. In the future, the S300 should give rise to a whole series of combines; plans for 5 models have already been announced after the Nova has been tested. S 400, S 500, S 550 and S 400 crawler, where the first digit is the class. Two models of the S300 series are also being tested at once, these are NOVA 320 and NOVA 340.

Read Forage harvester "Don" 680M

The series will be maximally adapted to Russian conditions and have maximum localization. It is planned to produce about 500-600 cars per year, but if successful and recognized, this figure could increase significantly. The combine was officially presented quite recently at Agrosalon 2016, and the full characteristics of the new machine have not yet been revealed, because it will go into production only in 2017, and there will still be some improvements in the design, but some characteristics are already known.

Harvest part

The working width of the headers mounted with the Nova-340 combine ranges from four to seven meters, and the feeder chamber of the combine is equipped with a stone catcher and is equipped with a reverse function. The reverse option (for all-wheel drive Nova-340 and Nova-330 - with hydraulic drive) helps out in difficult working conditions. The feeder type is a chain-slat conveyor. There is a spring system for copying the relief, as well as a single hydraulic connector.

The conveyor inclined chamber ensures fast and uniform movement of the grain mass to the threshing drum. To monitor its condition and speed of maintenance, special hatches are provided. A stone catcher located in front of the threshing drum prevents stones from entering the threshing zone.

The relief is copied both in the longitudinal and transverse directions, thanks to balancing springs.

Threshing and separating device

The classic single-drum thresher with a threshing drum with a diameter of 600 mm provides exceptionally gentle threshing (including thin-layer threshing). At the same time, the thresher has a fairly simple design.

The progressive design of the 2-section deck, together with significant coverage, provides a concave area of 0.93 sq.m, unimaginable for other combines of this class, which directly affects the high productivity of the machine.

Type of threshing apparatus: drum with receiving accelerating beater. A reduction gearbox is an additional option. The sub-drum space is adjusted by an electric drive directly from the operator’s cab.

To clean the heap, a two-sieve cleaning system is used. The significant drop height and the finger grid on the preparation board greatly optimize the cleaning process. The total area of the sieves is 3.59 square meters, and this is one of the best indicators in this class of combines.

The cleaning system uses a six-bladed fan, the rotation speed of which can be easily adjusted directly from the cab and displayed on the control panel.

The principle of final grinding is the following: return to the drum. When working on slopes, in order to reduce losses, it is optionally possible to install high dividers on the upper sieve. Practice shows that losses are reduced by more than 1 percent, and the greater the deviation from the horizon, the greater the effect.

TORUM and RSM 161 combines: ultra-high productivity, large sown areas

Large agricultural holdings and owners of large acreage with high yields choose ultra-high-performance grain harvesters TORUM and RSM 161. In small fields, these powerful machines will feel uncomfortable, and their use will result in unnecessary waste of fuel and, accordingly, an increase in the cost of grain. In those areas where the giants can turn around, everything changes. Harvesting at high speed (optimal loading of the thresher is guaranteed by competent factory settings), TORUM and RSM 161 do not tire, which cannot be said about truck drivers arriving for unloading - the hoppers are filled faster than ever.

Fundamentally different in design features, these machines perform well in different conditions.

TORUM is a rotary combine harvester designed to work on difficult agricultural conditions, including waterlogged grain. In one season, he can harvest more than 2000 hectares, threshing 40 tons of grain per hour, which is more than 300 tons in an eight-hour shift. Its uniqueness lies in the patented ARS threshing system, when the deck rotates in the opposite direction to the rotor and protects the MSU from clogging, which allows the machine to literally fly across the field even on crops that are traditionally difficult to harvest.

Photo. High-performance combine TORUM 785.

TORUM works on wheat, rice, rapeseed, corn, soybeans, sunflower. His “favorite” crop is rice: initially, the rotary version of the thresher, which is non-standard for Russia, was developed specifically for rice growers. The combine will require only minor adjustments to the threshing system. To work in “wet” checks, half-tracks can be installed on the front axle, while the rear steered wheels are equipped with a drive.

Today the TORUM family is represented by models 780/750 and 785/770, differing in engine power and equipment.

Another representative of the giants is the grain harvester RSM 161. This combine is distinguished by a different threshing scheme. It's classical, drum-based. RSM 161 is designed to work on all traditional grain crops - cereals, legumes, oilseeds, cereals and row crops. With a productivity of up to 40 tons per hour, the RSM 161 provides ultra-clean threshing even on difficult agricultural conditions.

This all-rounder has a number of unique characteristics that make you look at the drum classics in a new way. Two drums, which are responsible for threshing, provide the machine with impressive performance, and the grain with purity and integrity.

Today the RSM 161 is recognized as one of the most technologically advanced combine harvesters in the world. Patented engineering solutions, a unique structural relationship between drums and deck, the highest degree of automation - this is an incomplete list of features that allow this machine to hold the palm in large farms for the second season.

Another advantage is the wide range of reapers that these hard workers work with. The universal header is called Power Stream and is notable for the fact that already in the basic configuration it comes with an electro-hydraulic soil contour following system: the operator selects one of the preset settings. Another noteworthy automatic system is the synchronization of the rotation speeds of the reel and the movement of the combine; it gives the combiner the right to make mistakes. There are also reapers for harvesting corn, soybeans, sunflowers, and for sparse, low-growing grains there is a Draper Stream grain conveyor reaper.

Straw walker and bunker of Nova-340 combine

The straw walker of this combine is very productive, having a significant separation area. The number of straw walker keys is four. The length of the straw walker keys is 3600 mm. The straw walker separation area is 4.3 square meters. meters.

The straw mass, which contains part of the grains at the exit from the threshing drum, is directed by a breaker beater to the straw walker. The four-key seven-stage straw walker copes with the release of residual grain without any problems.

The grain elevator sends the mass to the breaker beater for re-threshing. This provides an excellent balance of design simplicity and performance.

The bunker of the Nova-340 combine is very spacious, its capacity is 4900 liters. Such a volume.

An unloading auger, 4.1 meters long, equipped with a hydraulic extension, ensures unloading of fifty liters of grain mass per second, to a height of up to four meters. As standard, the combine bunker is equipped with a sampler and a fill sensor. The Nova-340 combine is equipped with a windrower as standard, and also, as an additional option, a stacker with a capacity of 9 cubic meters is installed on it.

The high-speed unloading device unloads the bunker in no more than two minutes. Using adjustable shutters inside the hopper, the unloading speed is adjusted depending on the type and moisture content of the crops being harvested. The slope of the bunker walls is selected in such a way as to reduce the likelihood of freezing even when unloading wet grain. Grain quality control is easily carried out using a sampler, which is located on the platform at the entrance to the operator’s cabin.

Unloading is autonomous, so the thresher drive can be turned off, thus reducing diesel fuel consumption.

ACROS and VECTOR combines: high and medium productivity, medium sown areas

The most popular and most recognizable combine harvesters in Russia are the legendary ACROS and VECTOR. Universal machines designed to work on fields with different yields continue to confidently dominate the industry.

ACROS is a line that is designed to work on any cereal grain and leguminous crops - from early grains to corn and sunflower. These are productive combines that harvest over 1000 hectares per season. Optimal working conditions for ACROS are sown areas from 700 hectares, medium and high yields from 30 c/ha.

Good performance, a classic threshing scheme, friendliness in operation and maintenance are the “ancestral” features of the family, as well as the ability to work on complex agricultural conditions without loss of productivity: the combine can work on both wet and overdried grain. ACROS, in addition, has earned the love of livestock farms because it handles crop residues very gently: it does not injure valuable straw and is able to place it in a neat windrow.

The family is represented by models 585/550 and 595. They are united by proven power plants (YaMZ and Cummins engines), a successful feeder chamber design that optimally loads the MSU with a deep deck dump system when driving, an impressive range of pre-settings for different crops, the ability to be aggregated with a wide range of headers and pickers - from soybeans to sunflowers.

Photo. Combine harvester ACROS 585 for medium and large grain producers.

The VECTOR grain harvester, the release of which once began the revival of agricultural machine building in Russia, remains relevant. Modern VECTORs have been significantly modernized, but what they share with their predecessors is perhaps the most important set for their field of application: reliability, efficiency, ease of maintenance and comfort.

The modern grain harvester VECTOR 425/410 (Rostselmash also offers a tracked version VECTOR 450 Track) is the optimal solution for farms. With an average seasonal operating area of 750 hectares, the machine demonstrates a productivity of 13.5 tons per hour. Its important advantage is working with the non-grain part of the crop. In its class, only VECTOR can, depending on the farm’s requirements, chop, scatter or windrow.

New capabilities of Nova-340 combines

For harvesting work on uneven terrain (including ditch farming systems), high ground clearance is needed to overcome ramps and (or) furrows. It is the Nova-340 combine with its 500 mm ground clearance that has all the capabilities to work successfully in such difficult conditions.

Also, for difficult conditions of high humidity, there is a special package with all-wheel drive. To reduce the ground pressure, it is possible to install larger tires.

The compact base of this combine provides high maneuverability in small fields. The large standard size of adapters and devices allows you to obtain maximum efficiency from its operation.

The threshing and separation system of the Nova-340 combine practically does not damage the straw. Depending on the wishes of the owner and the intended use, the straw can be chopped and scattered, or placed in neat windrows. In this case, the drive of the chopping drum can be switched off in a matter of seconds. And for harvesting coarse-stemmed crops, there is a device for reducing the rotation speed to 1700 rpm.

For farms that prefer to harvest straw in large quantities and use it for winter livestock feed, it is possible to optionally order a special version of the Nova-340 combine with a stacker with a capacity of nine cubic meters. The stacker helps to collect straw into heaps and automatically unloads them directly as it moves.

A budget option for farms that collect the entire non-grain part of the crop is a combine harvester with a hood without a chopper. Thus, all the straw from the keys and chaff from the sieves is formed into a single windrow - for subsequent collection into bales, rolls or stacks, tractor carts.

All serviced units and lubrication points are grouped and located in direct access, due to this, shift maintenance will require no more than 10 minutes. The side panels open to a wide angle and do not interfere with the service work.

An air compressor with a 110 liter receiver (included in the basic package of a combine with all-wheel drive) saves a lot of time on shift maintenance and is especially helpful in the field when there is no technical support vehicle nearby.

New grain harvester NOVA from Rostselmash

Despite the objectively observed trend of “reverse” consolidation of agricultural organizations after the “period of fragmentation,” in Russia there are still small farms that own small areas of land. Moreover, grain crops are actively grown on these lands. Such micro-enterprises are extremely interested in purchasing inexpensive but modern harvesting equipment. Until recently, practically the only domestic machine available to such farmers was the ZUK NIVA - a combine harvester quite reliable, productive, but essentially hopelessly outdated.

In 2015, Rostselmash announced the start of development of a new class 3 grain harvester, and from that moment it became one of the most anticipated machines for farmers. ZUK NOVA has passed field tests and will be delivered to farm parks in a limited edition in the spring of 2022; large-scale production of the new model will be opened a little later. Today we present this combine.

Chassis, engine, transmission

The NOVA grain harvester is a compact, lightweight, maneuverable machine. The wheelbase is only 3,700 mm, the driving wheel track is 2,770 mm, the ground clearance is as much as 500 mm, and the turning radius is only 7,500 mm. The dimensions of the combine without header are 8,060 / 2,985 / 3,960 mm, dry weight with IRS and without header is a modest 9,400 kg. It comes standard with rear-wheel drive and is optionally available with all-wheel drive. Increased ground clearance is a significant advantage for regions with uneven terrain, and when working on soils with reduced load-bearing capacity, it is possible to install larger wheels.

The NOVA is standardly equipped with a 4.34 liter YaMZ 534 (Stage IIIa) L4 turbocharged engine producing 180 hp. This is a relatively new engine, seriously and for the better different from older naturally aspirated engines, including in terms of efficiency. Comes with a fuel consumption control system and a hydrostatic three-speed transmission. The fuel tank capacity is relatively small - only 300 liters, but this will be enough for shift work.

Harvesting, threshing, cleaning

In the basic configuration, the combine is offered with a universal grain header Power Stream with a width of 4/5/6 m. Its distinctive features are an extended table, a hydraulic reel drive with speed synchronization depending on the operating speed of the combine, and reverse reaping parts controlled from the cab. The header ensures minimal losses of ears and grain due to shedding, and evenly feeds the heap in any working conditions.

A new conveyor feeder with a relief copying system ensures fast and uniform movement of the heap to the thresher, in front of which a stone catcher is installed. The location and configuration of the camera provides a complete overview of the “work front” and the adapter cutting apparatus.

The threshing device of the combine is a drum with a diameter of 600 m and a length of 1185 mm with a receiving accelerating beater and concave adjustment from the cabin. The drum rotation speed varies between 400 – 1,190 rpm. An optional reduction gearbox is available, which allows you to further reduce the speed to 260 rpm.

The unit uses a unique two-section deck with a coverage angle of 154 degrees. The combination of applied solutions provided the largest threshing area in its class - 0.93 m2, unsurpassed gentle threshing even in a thin layer and high productivity.

The four-key straw walker with an unexpectedly large separation area of 4.3 m2 compared to its classmates works efficiently due to the optimal length of the keys (3,600 mm) and the amplitude of their vibrations. The cleaning system is double-sieve, the total area of the sieves is 3.59 m2. To intensify the process, the designers provide a large drop and a finger grid on the preparation board. Blowing is carried out by a fan with adjustable blade rotation speed within the range of 350 – 1,200 rpm. The unthreshed ear is returned to the drum.

Bunker, unloading and non-grain part

Cleaned grain enters a hopper with a capacity of 4,500 liters, equipped with a sampler and a fill level sensor. An unloading auger with a length of 4.7 m and a tray height of 4 m from the ground level allows unloading into any vehicles. The unloading speed is adjustable from the cabin using blinds - up to 50 l/s, the hopper is emptied in 2 minutes.

The standard equipment of NOVA includes a chopper-spreader with 45 knives. The grinding drum rotates at a speed of 3,000 rpm. Once the shutdown command is given, the knives stop within seconds. To work with coarse-stem crops, it is recommended to retrofit the unit with a speed reduction device.

Thanks to the large drum, the straw is not damaged during threshing, therefore it is suitable for feeding cattle. The machine comes with a windrower as standard. A 9-cc stacker is available as an option.

Modern cabin

NOVA combines are equipped with two-seater Comfort Cabs, like machines of higher classes. Sprung, sealed, with improved sound insulation, comfortable adjustable seat and steering column, air conditioning system, cooling chamber, they are truly ergonomic. The most frequently used commands are issued from the multifunction joystick, the main control panel is integrated into the right armrest.

The Adviser II on-board information system, equipped with an LCD monitor, helps manage production processes. The computer provides situational framing and provides voice and visual notification of changes.

Let's summarize. Thanks to the optimal layout of the MSU and cleaning, the machine’s performance comes close to that of higher-class, fourth-class combines. Taking into account comfort and wide functionality, today NOVA is objectively the most modern grain harvester among its classmates.

Comfortable cabin of the Nova-340 combine

The Nova-340 combine is equipped with a two-seat “Comfort Cab” cabin, the basic equipment of which includes an air conditioning and heating system, a refrigeration compartment for soft drinks, an Adviser II information and voice system and the ability to install the modern agro management platform “Agrotronic”. The cabin is quite wide and comfortable.

The Adviser II information and voice system continuously monitors the threshing processes and the operation of the combine mechanisms, helps control the stability of the technical process and prevent breakdowns of the combine units. It also integrates a loss indicator and a hectare counter.

Real assistance to the operator in his work is provided by the on-board information system with a monitor and voice notification; and all control of the header is done using a joystick - a compact control lever with four buttons.

The Nova-340 combine has this control lever with only four buttons that is very laconic and intuitive. With its help, the functions of the reel are controlled, as well as the raising and lowering of the header. The fourth button stops the header and feed. The lever fits ergonomically in the palm of your hand and provides intuitive and correctly controlled control of the combine.

In general, any operator can immediately find his way around this cabin: the side panel is clearly visible, the location of the keys is well thought out. My only wish is regarding the engine idle/running switch: it could have a clearer designation and a more convenient location. In fact, switching the three stages of a manual transmission turns out to be quite difficult - here, as they say, there is still some work to be done.
