MAZ-5516 vehicles are dump trucks with a load capacity of 20 tons, equipped with a bucket-type body. Created on the basis of the MAZ-6303, the 20-ton trucks were intended for transporting and unloading bulk materials. Despite all of these shortcomings, the truck became popular. Created exclusively for work, the MAZ dump truck offered the user a load capacity of 20 tons. And even this is not the limit for technology. On flat, hard-surfaced roads, the vehicle can transport up to 30 tons of cargo. Thus, the MAZ-5516, exceeding factory performance, has become one of the most popular trucks in Russia.
Engine and transmission
The first MAZ-5516 dump trucks were equipped with diesel engines from the Yaroslavl Motor Plant YaMZ-238 and YaMZ-238 D. 240- and 330-horsepower vehicles were available to the buyer. Later, more advanced YaMZ-6582 engines with a power of 330 hp began to be installed on 20-ton MAZ dump trucks. and environmental class Euro-3. Today you can find modifications with 400-horsepower Yaroslavl engines and diesel engines of the German brand Deutz, although they make up a smaller part of the cars sold.
In a unit with a Yaroslavl-made engine, the Yaroslavl-made mechanical gearbox YaMZ-2381 is offered. In the new models, the unit is replaced with a nine-speed manual from the German company ZF. The latest modifications of the 20-ton MAZ truck with a tipper mechanism are supplied with a reinforced double frame of the “spar-in-spar” type. Experts note that this led to an increase in the price of the truck and a drop in consumer demand for new vehicles.
The wheel formula of the car is 6x4. The truck can reach a maximum transport speed of 80 km/h, while fuel consumption will be 30 liters per 100 km. The engine is powered from a fuel tank with a capacity of 350 liters.
