Walk-behind tractors “favorite”: features, models and selection tips

Those people who are directly or indirectly related to gardening equipment have probably heard about OJSC “Plant named after.
V. A. Degtyarev" (ZiD), which produces many walk-behind tractors, cultivators and other similar devices. Moreover, among the rather rich assortment, it was Favorit walk-behind tractors that received the greatest public recognition. These developments managed to prove themselves excellently in harsh domestic conditions, therefore, taking into account the practicality and favorable cost of the machines, many agronomists began to give preference to them. To become more familiar with the features of the products, you should study the characteristics of the most famous models.

Unit design

As mentioned earlier, the Luch walk-behind tractor has a simple design that allows it to operate for a long time without any breakdowns. When studying the internal structure of this universal unit, the most important components should be highlighted. Among them, worthy of mention are:

  • motor;
  • clutch mechanism;
  • gearbox;
  • two wheels, as well as a handle with controls.

The device uses an internal combustion engine model DM-1 as a motor, which belongs to the category of four-stroke gasoline engines with 1 cylinder. To prevent overheating during operation, air cooling is used, and the piston diameter is 7.6 cm.

The transmission of the unit is simple, it is of the worm-gear type, which guarantees a long service life, as well as the absence of problems during intensive use. The walk-behind tractor clutch, as on most domestic models, is manual and allows you to switch between 4 gears.

The design of the gearbox requires separate consideration, since it is a key element on which the correct operation of the walk-behind tractor depends. It provides for the following components:

  • frame;
  • chains, handles and shafts used for shifting;
  • output shaft;
  • 3 blocks of stars.

There are models on sale with both pneumatic and cast wheels, which allows you to choose the best option. The tread has a simple pattern, and the wheels themselves must be installed with the corners forward for normal operation.

  • hilling and digging up root crops;
  • transportation of goods.

No special technical skills are required to use the device. Some knowledge and experience is required to use the attachment.

The unit can be operated at outdoor temperatures down to -5° C. To facilitate starting at subzero temperatures, add preheated engine oil.

Regardless of the chosen configuration, Beam MB 1 has advantages that distinguish it from its competitors. So, among the advantages we can highlight:

easy handling, absence of any effort when turning, the walk-behind tractor is equipped with a chain gearbox and V-belt drive, which ensure a smooth ride and improve cross-country ability; the equipment is equipped with wheels and a quick-release steering wheel. This feature increases the versatility of the design, and thereby facilitates the transportation of equipment. The walk-behind tractor's equipment list includes pneumatic rubber tires with deep tread. Such tires provide ideal grip on gravel and other relief surfaces, the presence of vertical steering wheel adjustment, and the presence of special wings on the wheels

These elements reliably protect the wheels from soil, which is extremely important when operating in field and muddy conditions; durable transmission, which includes two forward and two reverse gears; high power potential of all motors, without exception, offered for this model

Break-in features

The described walk-behind tractors themselves are very reliable and durable, but they require proper operation. Run-in is carried out in the first few hours of using the machine and is carried out with the aim of maximum grinding in and running-in of all components of the unit. In this regard, maximum speed is not recommended during this period.

Initially, the running-in begins with a visual inspection of the walk-behind tractor. If no deficiencies are identified, then you can start the engine. It should idle for about 30 minutes. After this, it is allowed to slightly increase the speed and carry out work in all available gears, all the nuances are analyzed and potential problems are identified.

Run-in is performed within 30–50% of the walk-behind tractor's capabilities. For example, cultivation is carried out to a depth of 100 mm, and loads are transported weighing no more than 200 kilograms. In general, the running-in period takes at least 20 hours. After this, be sure to change the oil.

General information

The model has been produced for more than 10 years and boasts a variety of attachments. All options are purchased additionally, but they significantly improve the capabilities of the machine. The walk-behind tractor is designed to perform a wide range of tasks. For example, it is widely used in the economic sphere, where fast and efficient tillage is required. In addition, the walk-behind tractor is very popular in livestock farming. Due to this, the Neva MB 1 is considered an almost indispensable transport vehicle for farmsteads.

It is known from history that he mastered the production of agricultural machinery in 1985, and from that time the production of the legendary Neva was organized.

Description

Luch walk-behind tractors have come a long way from their creation to the present day. Initially, the manufacturer of these walk-behind tractors was the Perm Motors OJSC enterprise, which in the 90s became part of the Perm engine-building complex.

The units are well-deservedly popular among domestic farmers and have a reputation as powerful, productive, fault-resistant devices with varying capacities. Each owner can choose a walk-behind tractor model based on the site, scope of work, and purpose.

Features of the Luch walk-behind tractors are as follows:

  • affordable price and high build quality;
  • attachments suitable for many other domestic and Chinese models;
  • endurance, possibility of use in any season;
  • ability to work on any type of fuel (gasoline AI-92, AI-76, AI-82 and other types of gasoline);
  • almost complete absence of bad reviews about walk-behind tractors (among the positive reviews there are many mentions of endurance, good assembly, reliability and power of the device).

About the disadvantages of Lynx walk-behind tractors

Among the disadvantages of walk-behind tractors of this brand, a fairly significant vibration load is often mentioned, which comes from the transmission elements to the manual controls of the equipment.

No major breakdowns were noted by any of the owners of walk-behind tractors of this brand during the first 2-3 seasons of their operation. In any case, they do not report such cases. But due to small things, the Lynx walk-behind tractor breaks down quite often and a lot.

Often the point here is that the quality of the metal from which it itself and some of its spare parts are made leaves much to be desired (which, as you know, is not uncommon for Chinese technology). It’s good that spare parts for this equipment are quite cheap, but in the event of a really major breakdown (for example, the engine “flies”), it will be cheaper to purchase a new walk-behind tractor.

By the way, during operation it is necessary to ensure that the engine does not overheat. If you work in the heat, at temperatures above 25 degrees, the motor begins to overheat quite quickly and at the same time loses its power.

Also, the quality of welds is not always what it should be. One of the owners of the Lynx walk-behind tractor broke off the coulter mount during the first attempt to plow dense virgin soil.

According to the owners of Lynx walk-behind tractors, the belt pulley, despite its cheapness and low lubrication requirements, still needs replacement and additional maintenance more often than other types of gears.

Another drawback, according to reviews from buyers of walk-behind tractors of this brand, is the lack of a differential locking function - the unequal and uneven load on the chassis and wheel complicates the maneuverability and turning of the cultivator.

Often, during operation, engine oil begins to ooze and gradually leak from the engine and (or) transmission of the walk-behind tractor.

When working with a mower, you have to independently make a homemade protective shield in front of the engine, otherwise, while mowing the grass, the dust flies off and quickly sticks to the engine, including clogging the ventilation holes.

To extend the service life of Lynx walk-behind tractors, it is advised not to forget that the durability of each technical device is determined by careful care for it, as well as regular inspection and maintenance.

The walk-behind tractor must be run in under minimal loads, during the first eight hours of its operation, so that the parts get used to each other properly. Since the build quality of Lynx walk-behind tractors is not always of decent quality (most often, on the contrary, it is quite careless), before starting to operate a new walk-behind tractor, you need to check the tightness of all bolt and screw ties, and do the same again after the break-in is completed.

It is necessary to strictly monitor the oil level and change the engine oil and air filters on time.

Attachments

In order to keep up with competitors, the manufacturer has equipped its model with various devices. The design of Neva MB 1 is so universal that it supports any equipment. Here everything depends only on the preferences of the owner. Let's look at the most common options:

  • Mills are necessary for cultivating the soil. The walk-behind tractor design has eight cutters, although the basic version has four. Additional kit sold separately.
  • A plow or a coupling device - metal wheels and a lug are usually purchased along with them. These devices provide reliable traction with the soil, and thereby compensate for the disadvantages of the small mass of the walk-behind tractor.
  • Potato planter - there are different models: KS-1, KS-1A and KST. This product is designed to facilitate the planting process and create favorable conditions for harvesting. Together with the potato planter, even planting and fixed row spacing are ensured, and the productivity of the planter itself is in the range of 0.2-025 hectares per hour. The equipment is designed for a distance between tubers of 25-30 cm, while the width between rows can be adjusted up to 70 cm.

There are two types of potato planters:

  1. Fan. A special feature of these diggers is the all-metal knife at the base. Metal rods fan out from it. A knife is used to lift up a layer of earth, and the layer itself is sifted through the rods. Root crops, in turn, are retained and rise to the surface. The fan digger has a productivity of 0.15 hectares per hour.
  2. Vibrating. Such potato diggers have several advantages over their fan counterparts. Firstly, they have many more different devices for more efficient work. For example, there is a ploughshare and a vibrating grid designed for sifting soil. The responsibilities of the ploughshare include raising the soil along with root crops and laying it on the grate. The main task of this grid is to sift the soil so that clean potatoes remain on the surface of the grid. Experience shows that the KKM-1, KMU-3, KK-6 and others are better suited for the Neva MB 1 walk-behind tractor. This equipment has a productivity of about 0.2 hectares per hour.

Please note that mowers are also divided into several types:

  1. Segmented - have shearing knives made of hardened steel. The knives move in a horizontal plane and therefore work best on flat surfaces. For example, this type of equipment can be recommended for working with cereals and evenly standing shrubs. As an option, there is a KN-1.1 mower with a cutting width of 110 cm and a productivity of 0.35 ha/hour.
  2. Rotary type - such mowers are becoming more and more popular, as they are in no way inferior to their segmented counterparts, and in some ways even surpass them. The working elements of rotary mowers are high-strength knives. They are mounted on disks and rotate at incredible speeds. This allows you to process not only small shrubs, but also thick grass. Vivid examples of this family are “Zarya” and “Neva KR-05”. Both mowers are produced in Kaluga.

It is noteworthy that the SMB-1 auger-type snow blower was developed specifically for the Neva MB 1 walk-behind tractor. Its operating principle is extremely simple and effective - the auger functions in such a way that snow is pushed from the edges into the middle, that is, towards the nozzle. The choice of the direction of snow ejection is determined by the rotating screen of the snow blower, and using the slides on the body you can adjust the cleaning height. Rotary brush – designed exclusively for removing debris. Its working width is 90 cm, and the installation angle reaches 90 degrees. The utility rotary brush has a capacity of about 2200 sq. m.

Another mounted element is a cart trailer with a maximum load capacity of 40 kg. The cart has a driver's seat, as well as durable brakes and a brake hitch as standard.

Walk-behind tractor Favorit MB1050-E-5-10
The main advantages of walk-behind tractors "Favorite" over other domestic and foreign models of similar equipment:

  • simple maintenance;
  • a wide range of models, the ability to choose a walk-behind tractor for a specific task, area of land;
  • the weight of walk-behind tractors varies widely - from 70 to 224 kg, therefore, even an operator without experience, as well as a woman, can operate them;
  • Thanks to the clear instructions, you can set up the walk-behind tractor as quickly as you can learn how to operate it;
  • one of the advantages of these devices is long-term operation without breakdowns;
  • powerful engines with a long service life, made of durable and high-quality materials (cast iron, various alloys).

Modernization

The Tuchok walk-behind tractor is a fairly old piece of equipment, so its entire refurbishment is quite appropriate. In addition, it is now quite difficult to find a new unit, so all motor units presented for public sale have already been used for a certain time.

The MTZ-82 tractor can be called the real pride of the post-Soviet industry. Here are all its advantages and technical characteristics.

ZIL-130. the most common truck of the Soviet era. Zil 130. is a very functional, fast and quite comfortable development for its period of time.

In the past, the process of cultivating land was very long and difficult because the farmer's tools were not as efficient as they are now. Here everything is about different models of the Pskov plow.

As for some improvements, we can highlight several examples of useful improvements, in our opinion:

  • The first thing you can try is replace. this front drive tension belt. The fact is that a regular roller is very noisy at work, especially after prolonged use.
  • The reason for this is that the bearing's grease has dried up and there is no way to replace it with a new one because its sides are accelerating.
  • As a replacement, you can use a roller from the timing belt of a VAZ 2112 car (or similar). There are two springs on both sides of the roller. one is the main one, leading to the control lever, and the second pulls the roller back.
  • You can also weld a new muffler. From the old one we have a cast iron elbow, which is quite problematic to weld anything. This problem is solved by simply referring to the turners who cut the thread, where you can already weld the steel angle.
  • The muffler unit is taken from the PD 10 engine, which is located at the very end of the exhaust pipe. The same corner that was used in the base of the homemade muffler is welded above the bank.
  • Some changes require engine modification. The fact is that the personnel board goes in one straight line and connects to the air purifier with a rather short hose.
  • It is discovered that the oil mixture enters this hose, which causes the oil to move further into the air cleaner and then into the carburetor. To get rid of these consequences, you can use a longer hose by placing it in a loop.
  • Even if some oil mixture gets into this hose, it will not be able to go further, but will return back to the engine.

Design advantages

  • The power plant of the famous company Loncin is responsible for the performance. In fact, this unit is a copy of the Japanese Honda GX 200 engine
  • To adjust engine speed, a comfortable handle is provided, located under the operator’s right hand. It allows you to smoothly adjust the speed, thereby avoiding various twitches and jerks.
  • The standard equipment of Ant-1 includes large pneumatic wheels. Their deep tread pattern provides outstanding off-road capabilities. Moreover, the product developers managed to achieve excellent traction with the ground, without any slipping.
  • Possibility of adjusting the steering column in different planes - both vertical and horizontal. It's very convenient and useful. For example, if it is turned into a horizontal plane, then trampling of the treated soil during plowing and cultivation can be avoided.
  • The equipment is supplied from the factory with a cyclone type air filter. Its design combines two filter elements - a paper and a foam rubber filter. This creates a double cleaning system.
  • The device is equipped with double protective wings, which are made of high-strength alloy. These wings are a kind of means of protecting the operator from soil ingress. If necessary, the wings can be removed.

Selection rules

When purchasing equipment, first of all, you should decide on its class and power. The larger the area of land to be cultivated, the greater the load on the walk-behind tractor. This means that the heavier and more powerful unit will be required.

You also need to take into account the width and depth of plowing. Even for units of the same class, they can differ greatly. The wider the loosening strip, the faster the device will process the required area.

If you don’t want to limit yourself to simple loosening, then you definitely need to purchase equipment equipped with a power take-off shaft. This makes it truly universal.

You also need to decide on the transmission. For small areas that will not create a serious load on the device, a belt is also suitable. For more complex tasks, it is better to choose a chain or gear type.

Expert opinion Kuznetsov Vasily Stepanovich

If possible, it is better to check the equipment (or a similar model) directly in the store. This will allow you to see how it works, as well as identify shortcomings and defects in advance.

Before purchasing, be sure to inspect the unit for build quality. Everything should be well connected to each other, there should be no backlash, loose bolts and similar problems.

Specifications

The product leaves the factory only after passing 5 stages of quality control. During this process, the operability of the power plant, correct assembly, completeness and availability of accompanying documentation are checked. The equipment goes on sale assembled. If necessary, it is folded and packed in a shipping container.

The technical characteristics of the walk-behind tractor are as follows:

  • engine - ZID 170F petrol, with vertical liner, 4-stroke;
  • power plant power - 7 horsepower;
  • cylinder volume - 206 cm³;
  • cooling type - air;
  • gearbox - cast iron, immersed in oil;
  • number of gears - 3 (2 forward and 1 reverse);
  • transmission - belt-type gear;
  • power take-off shaft - on the engine;
  • tank volume - 3.6 l;
  • fuel consumption - 1.6-2.4 l/h;
  • weight without equipment - 77 kg;
  • working width - up to 90 cm;
  • plowing/cultivation depth - 26 cm;
  • wheels - pneumatic 4.00-10;
  • number of knives on the cutter - 6 pcs.

The walk-behind tractor is supplied with cutters with a diameter of 30 cm and axle extensions. This equipment is enough to use the product as a motor cultivator. Owners of this type of equipment recommend immediately purchasing a set of canopies and spare parts for the walk-behind tractor. This will allow you to immediately put the unit into operation and solve unexpected technical problems.

Attachment overview

The review presents the most popular types of attachments from ZID, as well as recommended attachments from other manufacturers that can be used with Favorit walk-behind tractors.

Milling cutters

Milling cutters for “Favorit” are supplied complete with the main device. They are always packaged unassembled, so the owner must assemble them himself. The assembly process must be performed with thick fabric gloves, observing safety rules and following the instructions from the instructions for the walk-behind tractor.

It is allowed to use both regular saber knives and crow's feet. There are no special recommendations on the types of cutters for “Favorite”; you can use ordinary knives with a standard fastening method (bolts).

The following video clearly shows the process of working a walk-behind tractor with cutters

Adapter, trailer

An adapter is one of the most useful types of attachments for a walk-behind tractor. It differs from a cart in the presence of a seat. Trailers can be either with or without a seat. Considering the sufficient power of walk-behind tractors of the Favorit model range (6 hp or more), it is allowed to use adapters, dump trailers, and regular carts with the devices.

Recommended types of adapters or trailers: universal for walk-behind tractors Neva, Cascade, Oka, Favorit, Salyut, Centaur, for example, models, Motor Sich, Veima, Zirka-61 and others.

Mowers

A new product produced by ZID is the “Favorit” rotary mower (2013 release). Other models of mowers suitable for all walk-behind tractors of the model range: Zarya, Centaur, Ship, KR-1, KR-02, VM-02 Forte, Zubr, Grunfeld. Volcano. The use of other types of mowers, for example segment mowers, is permitted.

Lugs

Grousers are used, as a rule, for a better plowing process, in combination with a plow. They are an iron wheel, attached to the place of the wheels on the walk-behind tractor. Grousers are also included in the kit for tillage (in addition to the lugs, the kit usually includes a hiller, a plow, fasteners, and a coulter).

Such kits are convenient because they are attached in a universal way, are suitable for the majority of heavy and medium-sized walk-behind tractors, and allow you to save money compared to purchasing all the components separately. Dimensions (models) of lugs for “Favorit” walk-behind tractors: Intertool TL600-1, Neva 560x130, Intertool TL700-1, 600x200.

You can choose any plow for the “Favorite” walk-behind tractor, even the most common and inexpensive one. The universal plow model is the PNM 1-20 plow, the Mole plow, 1-20 plows from the Neva, Centaur, Salyut, Oka, Ugra, Zubr, and Cascade walk-behind tractors are perfect. In the video later in the article you can study in detail the process of installing the plow and lugs on the walk-behind tractor.

Snow blower, shovel

The following models of snow blowers are suitable for Favorite walk-behind tractors: Veima, WM1050, Grunfeld ST360, Volodar, Zirka-61. To connect a snow blower, the walk-behind tractor must have a PTO and a power of at least 6 horsepower. A shovel blade for a walk-behind tractor can have different sizes, the difference mainly lies in the length of the equipment.

Dumpboards can be 1 m, 90 cm, 80 and even 60 cm in length. For utility work, a shovel with a rubber lining along the bottom edge is better suited; for snow removal, the classic version without a rubber lining is better.

Potato digger and potato planter

Even for powerful walk-behind tractors, which include the Favorit, it is quite acceptable to use a fixed-type potato digger, for example, Krot, Mastertool, Premium, KV-2. This equipment is attached in a simple way - with bolts. In order to increase the amount of potatoes dug up, more complex designs can be used, such as a vibrating potato digger.

Potato planters for the Favorit walk-behind tractor: Bomet, KSN-1, KSN-1m, APK-3, KSM-2, KSC-1 and others.

Other useful attachments include such types of equipment as weights, hillers, rakes, tedders, hitches of various types (universal or for a specific type of equipment). The weighting agent is used on difficult soils, virgin soil; usually this type of attachment is not used for working on soft soils. The most common weights weighing 8, 10, 15 kg.

  • Milling hiller. It is mounted in place of the side cutters. The device is used for processing row crops. After cultivation, the soil becomes most suitable for planting a variety of crops.
  • Double row hiller. It guarantees high-quality and very fast processing of light soil. The device must be adjusted taking into account what type of soil will be processed, as well as depending on the parameters of the walk-behind tractor.
  • Single-row hiller. With its help, light soil is cultivated. The unit is mounted using a hitch. The possible processing depth is about 250 millimeters.
  • Mounted potato digger. It helps to extract a variety of root crops from the ground.
  • Digger. It is used on all types of soil. The device is configured depending on the user's wishes.
  • Plow. Serves for cultivating various types of light and medium soil.
  • Rotary mowers. They have different processing widths and productivity rates (on average it is 0.18 ha/hour).
  • Carts with a chair, the carrying capacity of which is no more than 500 kilograms.
  • Blade for leveling the soil and clearing snow. The snow mass ejection range is about 5 meters, and the working width is 560 millimeters.
  • Adapter with seat. It allows the operator not to walk next to the machine while it is working, but to ride on it. This is very convenient in cases where the walk-behind tractor is used with a trailer that allows you to transport not too large loads.

It is worth noting that spare parts for the Favorit walk-behind tractor can be purchased without problems and in the shortest possible time. This is due to the fact that they are sold in large quantities in our country and at an affordable price.

General information and design

The Brait 135 is equipped with a powerful 4-stroke engine, which is developed in China, and is an exact copy of the original Japanese Honda GX 390 engine. This means that the Chinese engine is endowed with the advantages of the original, and at the same time at a very affordable price. The power plant is very economical, has high torque and good elasticity. Thanks to this, the walk-behind tractor has enough traction capabilities to work on any road surface, and at the same time process different areas, including the hardest soil, including virgin soil. This is facilitated by the support of a large number of attachments. The robust and durable design is adapted to any options and allows you to unlock their potential by 100%. Engineers were able to provide special mounting technology for each equipment. Owners of the Brait 135 will appreciate this feature.

Agricultural jobs available for the Brait 135 include cultivating, hilling, and planting vegetable crops. In addition, when installing some types of options, other tasks are available, such as pumping water, transporting goods, mowing grass and other operations

Let's pay attention to the carrying capacity when transporting goods, which is 500 kg - a very decent indicator in the class

The car is also equipped with manual gear shifting. This mechanism is considered more reliable and time-tested compared to automatic switching. In addition, the engine can also be started manually, so there will be no problems when starting in harsh conditions with low temperatures.

Particularly noteworthy is the coupling device, designed for reliable fixation of large attachments - such as a plow, hiller and cart. In addition, the hitch allows you to connect even incompatible equipment from other competing walk-behind tractors.

The performance of the Brait 135 is at a decent level. Acceptable width and depth of processing, an easy start system, high fuel efficiency, hex axles for reliable connections, as well as a comfortable and ergonomic handle - all these advantages of the walk-behind tractor are positively reflected in the positive reviews of real owners of the Brait 135. We especially note the ergonomic handle with rubberized handles, which are comfortable to hold on to. You can adjust the width and height of the handle, and thus configure the walk-behind tractor depending on the height and body composition of the operator. In addition, control levers are located on the handle. They are convenient to use because they are at hand and you don’t have to reach for them.

The machine is equipped with impressive pneumatic wheels, which provide acceptable cross-country ability. The wheels have a special tread pattern, which, according to the developers, has a self-cleaning effect from dirt. Cross-country ability and stability on any surface are also ensured by ground hooks, which are one of the most important options that allow you to unleash 100% of the performance of the Brait 135.

“The lad is plowing hard...” A saga about the troubles and victories of the 12-year operation of a walk-behind tractor

— I decided to purchase a walk-behind tractor in 2006, having had a lot of trouble cultivating my plot of land manually. Compared to a cultivator, which is intended only for loosening the soil, a walk-behind tractor, in addition to loosening, can be used with a plow, hiller, and drag a trailer.

The choice in favor of a walk-behind tractor was also determined by the fact that cultivators are recommended for plots of up to 6 acres, and I have more land.

I chose the “Favorite” MB-3 model after consultation with the seller. There are more powerful and productive walk-behind tractors, but they are not cheap. It makes sense to buy them if the plot is half a hectare.

Having learned that I only need to cultivate 20 acres of land, the seller recommended a Russian walk-behind tractor produced by the Degtyarev plant, which is medium in power and price. The walk-behind tractor is equipped with a Geo-Tec engine from Tecumseh with a power of 6 horsepower.

As the seller assured, this walk-behind tractor is specifically designed for versatile soil cultivation on an area of 20 to 50 acres, and the engine with which it was equipped is made in Europe and, with proper care, will last 20 years or more without serious breakdowns. True, the European production of the motor is not written either on the engine itself or in the instructions for it, so I had to take the seller’s word for it.

Now the 12th summer season is ending - in fact, there are still no complaints about the reliability of the engine. But the Chinese-made retractable starting device broke down in the fifth year of operation. If you could go out and buy one, that would be the only problem that could be attributed to the engine.

However, when I started looking for another launcher, it turned out that nothing similar to what I needed was on sale. The sellers explained the situation by saying that the Tecumseh engine was outdated, it had been discontinued, and starting devices from newer engines did not fit it.

I had to use improvised means to restore my launcher. Now suitable Chinese launchers are available for sale for 50-70 rubles. In my opinion, it’s a little expensive, so as long as mine works, I don’t think about buying a new one.

And the same story happened when I decided to replace the air filter. Computer sellers searched, searched, and then they said: we can’t find anything, because the engine is out of production, and other filters do not fit it in size. It’s a strange thing: if cars are discontinued, spare parts for them continue to be produced for a certain number of years, but even “consumables” cannot be found here.

The filter consists of two parts - paper and foam. I rinse, blow, dry - this is how I get out of the situation. When it’s dry and dusty, I try not to use a walk-behind tractor, although with our weather you don’t have to choose when to plow. The weather allows it, so come on, otherwise you will miss time.

Whether this affected the engine, I don’t know. In the first years it always started with a half-turn. Even now it can start with half a turn, but more often than not you still have to make several attempts.

One could attribute the unsuccessful attempts to the fact that the starting device was restored on the knee, so now you still need to know how to use it, but, unfortunately, there is a disappointing sign - the engine began to start very poorly when “hot”. To start confidently, you need to let it cool down - about 20 minutes in warm weather. Probably the condition of the piston group is having an effect. On the other hand, it is not noticeable that the engine has lost traction.

Of the problems with the walk-behind tractor, I would name only one more or less serious: the wheel axle seals in the gearbox are leaking. After consulting with agricultural machinery repair specialists, I replaced the oil seals myself.

The rest is annoying little things. For example, fastening wheels and cutters to axles using pins with latched pins turned out to be unreliable.

When buying a walk-behind tractor, the sellers immediately advised me to buy several of these fingers, they say, I will definitely need them. I took 20 pieces, I thought it would last forever, but I used up the entire supply in 5 years.

I could have bought more, but instead I picked up bolts of the appropriate size. Of course, with standard pins it was easier and faster to install wheels or cutters, but now you have to tinker with the nuts, but as soon as you installed the bolts, they move.

The quick-release clamp for adjusting the steering wheel in the vertical plane is still “original,” but the handle on the same clamp for adjusting the steering wheel in the horizontal plane broke off, probably 6-7 years after purchasing the walk-behind tractor.

I tried to weld it, but the handle soon cracked in another place. I had to install a homemade bolt and nut instead of a clamp. The loss, again, is only in ease of use.

The drive from the engine to the walk-behind tractor gearbox is belt. The gearbox has two forward and reverse gears.

In addition, by installing double-strand pulleys, it is possible to increase the number of speeds. To do this, the pulleys are removed and turned over, and the belt is transferred from one stream to another.

During the break-in period, the transmission was the most gentle. At this time the walk-behind tractor was crawling like a turtle. The run-in ended - I rearranged the pulleys for optimal speed and, in fact, did not change their position after that.

The “original” belt worked for 5 years. Belts that are used for spare parts are of much worse quality. They are barely enough for one season. True, as long as they work, they cost so much - 5-10 rubles.

Break-in should continue for the first 25 hours of operation. After this, the oil in the engine and gearbox of the walk-behind tractor is changed. Next, the oil must be changed after 250 hours of operation. This is written down in the instructions, which, to be honest, really confused me at first, and when I actually calculated that the walk-behind tractor runs no more than 40 hours during the spring-autumn, I think there was some kind of typo in the instructions. It turns out that the oil needs to be changed after 6 summer seasons, which I think is wrong.

I change it every season. There is this oil - the cat cried, maybe 200-300 grams. And changing the oil is easy - this is not a car, the walk-behind tractor does not need a pit or a lift for maintenance.

The walk-behind tractor kit included cutters and rubber wheels. Equipment for plowing, hilling, harrowing and transporting goods must be purchased additionally.

I bought an additional plow, hiller and metal wheels for better traction with the soil. I didn’t buy a harrow - I don’t need it.

It would be nice to harrow after plowing virgin soil, but “Favorit”, alas, is too tough for virgin soil. This became clear when I tried to cultivate land that had been abandoned for some time.

On virgin soil, the Favorite lacks power, which is why the cutters simply won’t turn, and weight, which causes the wheels to slip. For those looking for a walk-behind tractor for plowing and cultivating land that has not been cultivated for several years, models like the Favorite are not suitable. A walk-behind tractor like MTZ will easily lift virgin soil, unless, of course, it is overgrown with bushes and trees.

This drawback is compensated by the fact that “Favorite” can be easily handled by a woman and even a teenager of 15-17 years old.

Again, the low weight is a consequence of the compact size. There is a MTZ walk-behind tractor nearby. Sometimes people turn to his owner to cultivate the land. The first thing he does is find out how to get to the site. If there is a fence, it has no gate, and there is only a gate, he refuses. And “Favorite” goes everywhere and doesn’t spoil anything. He even enters the elevator and apartment door. For the first two years there was no place to leave it at the dacha - I took it home.

But after the winter, during which I first left the walk-behind tractor at the dacha, it flatly refused to start. Not a sneeze, not a puff, nothing. I changed the spark plug - the same result. I removed the carburetor to wash it, and it turned out that the valve in the carburetor had become soured during storage.

I developed it, put the carburetor back - the engine started with half a turn. He put the old candle in the barn, and the one he put in its place worked for 6 years after that.

Then the startup problems began, which I mentioned above. I found an old candle, installed it, and nothing changed. Again, I did not return the candle that had been there before. It turns out that the “native” spark plug works on the engine with a 6-year break.

I didn’t buy the trailer right away, but three years later, although this is certainly a necessary thing on the farm.

The trailer is homemade - I bought it from the person who made it. Loaded up to 500 kilograms - the walk-behind tractor pulled the trailer quite easily.

The Favorite has a power take-off shaft. As written in the instructions, it is designed to connect a water pump, mower, snow blower, sweeper, and potato digger to the walk-behind tractor. Out of interest, I asked the seller if the Favorit could handle a potato digger. He replied that it was unlikely. I don’t need any other attachments, so I’ve never used a power take-off shaft.

According to the instructions, gasoline should be 92 or 95. According to the passport, fuel consumption is 1.3 liters per hour. And in an hour you can do a lot of things with a walk-behind tractor. You can’t dig up as much land manually and in a day as you can plow and cultivate with a walk-behind tractor in an hour.

On small plots, more time is spent reinstalling cutters and wheels than on the work itself. And then, as they say, the job is done - go for a walk. There is no doubt for me that in terms of saving my time and physical effort, the walk-behind tractor has long paid for itself.

How to make a plow for a mini tractor with your own hands. What is needed to design a plow

It’s quite possible to make a plow for a mini tractor at home, spending just a couple of evenings on it. Finding all the main components will not be difficult. To create a homemade plow for a mini tractor with your own hands, you will need:

  • welding machine and electrodes for it;
  • scissors for cutting metal;
  • rectangular iron pipe with dimensions 52x40x7 mm;
  • an iron pipe with a diameter of half an inch, similar pipes were used in old heating systems, so it will not be difficult to find;
  • several dozen M10 bolts;
  • getinax plate 25 mm thick;
  • wheels with a small diameter, for example, from a stroller or bicycle;
  • patience and intelligence.

Basically, a plow is attached to a mini tractor if the engine has less than 12 hp. Such units fulfill the purposes of hiller, cultivator and plow. Due to its special and simple design, it will help to cultivate any soil, and the quality of work will be equally high. This plow can be installed on both a mini tractor and a walk-behind tractor. In special situations, it is possible to turn off the traction and use a harnessed horse instead of the engine.
