Customer-oriented, functional, innovative – this is how the VW Crafter 2022 (model SY) is presented, a completely new vehicle in the full sense of the word. To create it, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles experts made full use of research data on the individual needs of users. The specialists from Hannover accompanied customers on their daily journeys, asking them what they expected from the car as they worked. The fundamental principle was: “Design must work.” For example, it was possible to obtain an ideal ratio of useful space and dimensions of the VW Crafter 2022 with the best aerodynamic drag coefficient cx in its class. The result is an unprecedented combination of functionality, practicality for everyday use, efficiency and environmental friendliness. The VW Crafter 2022 is powered by 2.0L TDI engines exclusively based on the MDBnutz modular diesel platform. Driver assistance systems have also set new standards in this vehicle segment. Thanks to electromechanical power steering, a first in this vehicle class, it is now possible to equip the Crafter 2022 with an extremely wide range of active and passive driver assistance systems. Shortly after the presentation, the Crafter won the International Van of the Year 2022 award, becoming the best van of 2022. . After more than 40 years of production of the LT1 and LT2, following two generations of the Crafter with a combustion engine, the Crafter with an all-electric drive enters series production. High-voltage components, as well as modified components and assemblies of other systems, make the car comfortable, safe and convenient for everyday use. The traction motor has a power of 100 kW and develops a maximum torque of 290 Nm already when starting off. Depending on the load, the nature of the route and the driving profile, the range is up to 173 km with a nominal stored energy of the high-voltage lithium-ion battery of 35.8 kW. The recuperation function, that is, the use of braking energy, has been adapted for the e-Crafter with three-phase electric drive. Under certain conditions, a three-phase electric drive in generator mode can provide deceleration. The resulting energy is supplied by the power and control electronics unit to the high-voltage battery. The e-Crafter is a light-duty electric utility vehicle based on the VW Crafter 2022. Like the diesel versions, the new e-Crafter is equipped with the most modern assistance and comfort systems. The second generation of Crafter is truly iconic. Not only because the company has invested enormous effort and resources (about 800 million euros) in a new plant in Poland. For the first time in twenty years, Crafter is no longer Sprinter's twin brother. The car was created from scratch. Although he still has a relative, but under the MAN brand.
As usual, the new generation has acquired a corporate face, and the sidewalls are lined with stampings and clear edges. Everything is like other models of the “people's brand”. The interior echoes this. Straight lines, a standard Volkswagen steering wheel and a huge number of compartments and pockets. Under the hood there are exclusively 2.0-liter diesel engines of varying degrees of boost - from 75 to 130 kW. There are two gearboxes - a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic. As before, there are three types of drive - front, rear and all-wheel drive.

Prospects:
the costs of creating a new generation of Crafter are enormous (but the management does not want to announce the amount), although hopes are high. Volkswagen plans to increase sales from the current 50,000 to 65,000 by 2022. The car will appear in Russia no earlier than next year. It takes time for certification - hello to the ERA-GLONASS system. By the way, perhaps because of it, all cars on our market without exception will have the top-end Composition Media multimedia system. There is no talk about localization yet and is unlikely to happen. This means that it is difficult for a new Crafter to compete with localized Transit.

This is made possible by innovative developments in the field of transmission, such as the 6-speed manual transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel drive. At the same time, the gearboxes have been adapted to the different engine variants and operating conditions of the Crafter 2022. This especially applies to high-torque engines with their pronounced dynamics. Despite this, the main development goals, as before, were to reduce fuel consumption and reduce CO2 emissions.

. The Crafter 2022 uses a new 0DR 8-speed automatic transmission. This is a traditional step-shift automatic transmission with a torque converter and a planetary gearbox with electro-hydraulic control. The developer and manufacturer of the 0DR automatic transmission is ZF Friedrichshafen AG. Designation In ZF: 8HP70L, in VW: AL550-8H, in the service department: automatic transmission 0DR. Maximum torque 410 Nm. The torque converter and planetary gearbox have been adapted for use in the VW Crafter 2022. The gearbox housing, friction discs, disc drums and transmission parking lock have been strengthened, resulting in an exceptional strength margin for the entire gearbox structure. The most notable features of this automatic transmission are: – 8-speed planetary gearbox with electro-hydraulic control; – torque converter with lock-up clutch (torque converter with torsional vibration damper); – lightweight design. – especially comfortable switching at high speed; – no interruption of power flow; – starting from a stop with virtually no slipping.
Emergency and backup programs correspond to the most modern level of technical capabilities, which ensures high availability in the event of a malfunction; for example, the hydromechanical emergency mode allows you to continue operating the vehicle in 6th gear and reverse gear until the engine is turned off or the selector lever is moved to position P, even in the event of a complete failure of the Mechatronic unit electronics
