"KAMAZ-65115" is one of the best-selling models of dump trucks of the Kama Automobile Plant. The dump truck, produced since 1998, became a continuation of the line of KamAZ-55111 dump trucks with a carrying capacity of 13 tons, which, in turn, were a logical continuation of the 10-ton KamAZ-5511 dump trucks. Evolution and continuity are evident. Like its predecessors, the 65115th KamAZ is a three-axle dump truck with two driven rear axles and a dual-pitch tire. Its carrying capacity is 15 tons. This is the sales leader in the construction dump truck segment. The 6x6 KamAZ-65111 all-wheel drive dump truck was built on the same base.

Design features. Frame and suspension
KamAZ-53605 vehicles use an original frame design that takes into account significant and uneven loads during operation (including during the process of lifting and dumping cargo with a dump platform). Such heterogeneity, uneven distribution of load across the volume, plus the not always perfectly level position of the truck lead to the formation of impact forces, bending and twisting moments.
Therefore, the truck frame has an increased profile cross-section. To reduce these negative impacts, the KamAZ-536O5 dump truck uses a “floating” fastening of the platform subframe to the chassis frame. In this case, the rear part of the subframe is fixed rigidly, the middle part with a bolt through spaced flanges, and the front part using springs. Therefore, the cargo platform can, as it were, adapt to changing loads. The relative movement of the subframe and frame compensates for the resulting vibrations.
The KamAZ-536O5 chassis is built on the basis of spring suspension at the front and rear. The design of the front suspension is similar to the KamAZ-652O dump truck, and the rear suspension is similar to the KamAZ-546O tractor, which has the same wheelbase - 3.95 meters. The front and rear suspensions of KamAZ-536O5 are on semi-elliptical single-ear springs. The front ends of the springs are attached to the frame brackets using detachable lugs, and the rear suspension is also additionally equipped with springs.
The free ends of the front suspension springs have a rubber-metal support, which replaced the previous one, with replaceable nuts and side liners, and the rear suspension has a sliding support. Both the front and rear suspensions are equipped with anti-roll bars, which increase the angular stiffness of the suspension and reduce the roll angle when lateral loads are applied to the vehicle.
Wheels on KamAZ-536O5 trucks are installed on disk, with rim size 9.0-22.5 (previously also used with size 8.5-20 (216-508); tires - pneumatic, tubed or tubeless, size 315/80 R22, 5 (previously also 12.00 R20 (320 R508). The rear axle is with a double tire.
One of the features of this “city dweller” truck was the presence of side and rear protective barriers, mounted in full compliance with UNECE Regulations No. 58 and No. 73. At the same time, the side protective fence does not impede access to the tool box at all. Mud flaps are securely held in place due to special elastic plates that support them and prevent them from being swept under the arches. True, the disadvantage of plastic is that it squats when trying to use the arch as a step. As additional equipment, the KamAZ-536O5 chassis can be retrofitted with a power take-off (PTO).
Among the trucks of the Kama Automobile Plant, this model has become one of the most economical. The average diesel fuel consumption rate in winter is about 26 liters, and in summer – 23 liters per hundred kilometers.
Purpose and scope of application
The main purpose of the KamAZ-65115 dump truck remains the same as its predecessors. This is transportation of all kinds of bulk cargo, mainly construction materials: sand, crushed stone, gravel, etc. When equipped with a dump platform with the possibility of three-way unloading, the dump truck is widely used in the agro-industrial complex. In particular, as a grain carrier; for transporting silage and haylage.
This dump truck is intended exclusively for short-distance transportation - to perform routine daily tasks on construction sites and on intra-regional flights. It would be very difficult to use this model over long distances: the suspension is rigid, and there is no sleeping space in the cabin. "KAMAZ-65115" is equipped with an all-metal dump platform with an inclined front side. The body has a box-shaped, bucket-shaped or trough-shaped type and a protective visor that reliably covers the space between the platform and the cabin. Exhaust gases heat the underbody, preventing the cargo from sticking and freezing to the loading platform. For use with trailers, as part of road trains, the vehicle is equipped with towing devices “pin-loop” or “clearance hitch”, as well as electrical and pneumatic power outlets for trailer systems. The truck can be used either independently or with a trailer, as part of dump truck trains. In addition to dump bodies, other superstructures are also installed on the KamAZ-65115 chassis: concrete mixers, garbage trucks, tank trucks, truck cranes, loader cranes, scrap trucks/metal trucks.
KAMAZ-53605 dump truck platform
Despite its compact overall dimensions, the volume of the KamAZ-536O5 dump truck platform is the same as that of the KamAZ-55111 - 6.5 m3. The principle of automatic opening of the tailgate is also present.
The mechanism is housed in the platform frame, and adjustable rods are connected to lugs on the subframe. The layout of the platform lift was changed by shifting the point of application of force from the canopy to its base (like the KamAZ-55111 dump truck). Which led to a decrease in the tipping moment arm and the angle of deflection of the hydraulic cylinder during body lifting. The hydraulic cylinder is attached to the platform using a rotary pin.
The KamAZ-536O5 dump truck is used for transporting bulk cargo - construction and (or) industrial, with a total weight of up to 11,700 kg. The dump body is welded from metal and has a rectangular box type. There is a canopy in front that protects the space between the cabin and the platform, covering it from above.
The hydraulic cylinder and the entire lifting mechanism, together with the dump truck itself, are manufactured and installed at the Neftekamsk Automobile Plant (NefAZ), in Bashkiria. This is one of the divisions of KamAZ OJSC. This company equips other KamAZ dump trucks with lifting bodies.
Modifications of the KAMAZ 65115 dump truck
Over the years of production of the model, about ten of its serial modifications were produced, which differ in the model and engine power, load capacity, transmission and some other parameters. The list of the main serial modifications of the KamAZ-65115 is as follows. Currently, twelve different configurations of KamAZ-65115 serial dump trucks are offered to potential buyers. The key differences are: the direction of body tipping - backwards, or backwards/sideways on three sides, the engine (Cummins or our own production - KamAZ-740.622-280), the presence of a towing device and its type, body section options, the presence of inter-wheel locking, inter-wheel and (or) inter-axle lockable differential. Car device
"KAMAZ-65115" has a standard layout for this class of vehicles, which is characterized by a strong steel frame;
roomy body; twin wheeled chassis; cabin located above the engine. The frame is assembled from side members with a metal profile height of 280 mm, reinforced with durable steel plates. The three-axle dump truck has two driven rear axles with double tires. The main axle is medium: the main torque is transmitted to its gearbox. The car's suspension is dependent on leaf springs. It is quite rigid, but reliable and durable.
The main elements of the braking system are brake drums with a width of 140 mm and a diameter of 400 mm. Due to the pneumatic drive, a quick stop of a heavy dump truck is achieved. The electrical equipment on board the dump truck includes two 12V / 190 Ah batteries; generator 28V / 2000 W. On-board power supply voltage is 24V. This model is distinguished by increased periods between maintenance by 37%, compared to its predecessor, KamAZ-55111: 16,500 km.
Steering and brake control
From the very beginning, the steering mechanism on KamAZ trucks of this model was imported, made in Germany - or “RBL”. Although, according to the technical description, the “branded” KamAZ steering mechanism is actually no different from them. In combination with the steering mechanism, hydraulic power steering pumps from the same German companies are also used, as well as, again, the KamAZ-6520-3407200 pump, which is formally not inferior to them in technical characteristics, produced by OJSC Gidroprivod, Yelets.
The brake system of the KamAZ-53605 vehicle is also imported, made from components from Knorr-Bremse, Germany. It is equipped with ABS - anti-lock braking system. All wheels are equipped with reliable drum mechanisms, with drums with a diameter of 400 mm, pads with a width of 180 mm and a total brake lining area of 4800 cm2.
Engines KamAZ-65115
Until 2006, most KamAZ-65115 vehicles were equipped with a 240-horsepower diesel engine of our own production, KamAZ-740.11-24O, with a turbocharging system. This power unit belongs to the Euro-1 environmental class. Further, 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel engines began to dominate in the line of diesel engines for KamAZ-65115 - more powerful, productive and at the same time more economical and environmentally friendly. In particular, the most common of them was the Cummins 6ISBe 285, with turbocharging and intercooling of charge air; with increased environmental friendliness and efficiency characteristics.
Its characteristics are as follows: displacement - 6.7 liters, rated power - 282 hp, maximum useful torque - 1087 N.m (111 kgf.m), at a crankshaft speed of 1300 rpm. Maximum net power – 300 hp. (215 kW), at a crankshaft speed of 2500 rpm. Compression ratio – 17.3. This power unit was a joint development of specialists and KamAZ OJSC. It pairs perfectly with the ZF-9 S1310 9-speed manual transmission. Of the classic KamAZ diesel engines of our own production, the most common on KamAZ-65115 dump trucks was the 8-cylinder modification KamAZ-740.62-280 with a V-shaped cylinder arrangement. Characteristics of this power unit: displacement – 11.76 l, rated power – 280 hp, maximum torque – 1177 N.m. It is coupled with a 10-speed KamAZ manual transmission. Modern dump trucks of this model are equipped with KamAZ-740.622-280 or Cummins ISB6.7 300 engines. Both variants are equipped with a Bosch high-pressure fuel pump and a Common Rail electronic injection system. Both meet the requirements of the Euro-4 standard.
Transmission
Transmissions produced by KamAZ are traditionally distinguished by consistently high quality, durability and wear resistance. More modern boxes and advanced gearboxes from Zahnrad Fabrik are “conditionally imported”: their production was mastered in Naberezhnye Chelny. The Z-F variants are gradually naturally replacing the outdated domestic transmission on KamAZs - “a legacy of Soviet times.”
With the engines of KamAZ-65115 dump trucks, as a rule, a mechanical 9-speed gearbox of the ZF-9 S1310 model is used with a range of gear ratios from 9.48 to 0.75. The transmission of rotation from the engine to the manual transmission is carried out using a single-disc diaphragm-type clutch with a hydraulic drive having a pneumatic booster. The final drive ratio is 5.94.
Body
KamAZ-65115 dump trucks are equipped with NefAZ bodies in three versions: • “Bucket/scoop” of rectangular shape, with rear unloading; • The body is oval, U-shaped (or “trough-shaped”), with rear unloading; • Rectangular body with extension sides - for agricultural dump trucks with the possibility of unloading not only the rear, but also the side.
The steel body, with various options for hanging the sides, is equipped with a hydraulic lifting mechanism. To raise and lower a cargo dump platform, a hydraulic drive is used, including a PTO (power take-off) with a pump, hydraulic fittings and telescopic hydraulic cylinders. The hydraulics are made on high-quality element base, using advanced technological solutions. In the rear part of the body there is an opening side with the possibility of locking it using special levers. This prevents it from spontaneously opening during movement.
KamAZ power take-off
If the gearbox is an obligatory part of the car chassis, and the presence of a transfer case and additional gearbox (multiplier or divider) depends on the purpose of the car, then the KamAZ power take-off takes practically no part in ensuring the movement of the car.
The main task of this unit is to use engine power to operate additional equipment by transferring torque to the drive of this equipment. The principle of operation of the PTO is always the same, but the placement of the node may be different. So on KamAZ 4310 the power take-off is installed on the transfer case and consists of an output shaft, a pair of ball bearings in which it is fixed and a movable coupling. When the PTO is engaged, this clutch moves and engages with the upper shaft of the transfer case. The take-off box housing is sealed with rubber cuffs to prevent oil from leaking out through the bearing cup cover. A unit is used to transfer power to a standard winch.
In another version, the PTO is installed on the main gearbox. It is this type that includes, for example, the KamAZ 5511 power take-off, the crankcase of which is mounted on the right hatch of the gearbox (on some Kama trucks, a similar unit is installed on the left side, and very rarely on the rear end). The intermediate gear of the transfer case cannot move along the axis, so it constantly receives rotation from the intermediate shaft of the gearbox.
If it is necessary to turn on additional equipment, air is pumped into the chamber with the diaphragm, the diaphragm itself presses on the axis with the drive gear and it engages with the intermediate gear. It must be remembered that such a box only works when the clutch is disengaged and the pressure in the pneumatic system is at least 5 kgf/cm2. That is, switching the KamAZ gearbox when operating a PTO of this type is not recommended.
Consultation on technical issues, purchase of spare parts 8-916-161-01-97 Sergey Nikolaevich |
Due to the specific nature of the operation, the spare parts of this unit are exposed to increased external influences, so the strength and wear resistance of each PTO part are of great importance. In our company, you can easily buy a KamAZ power take-off of the type you need, and its price will be very reasonable. As for the quality and wear resistance of spare parts, all our products have successfully passed a full range of tests at MADI testing grounds and various technological checks. “Diagnosis” is the full approval of car manufacturers and consumers.

Cabin
The KamAZ-65115 dump truck received a new, completely modernized restyled cab in 2010. She was left without a sleeping place, but was equipped with a roof with a significantly higher ceiling. The cab bumper became plastic; rectangular headlights, wheel arches and rear-view mirrors have become larger and more modern in appearance. There are deflectors on both sides of the cabin. The windshield wiper is a three-blade type.
In addition to standard seats (driver's seat with lateral support), the cabs of KamAZ-65115 dump trucks are equipped with more expensive and comfortable Grammer seats, equipped with a wide range of settings and air suspension. The steering column in the new cabin is also adjustable, although not without considerable effort. The cabin is located high, but easy access is provided by comfortable steps and handrails, suitable for drivers of any height. Panoramic mirrors guarantee excellent visibility. There is a tool box under the passenger seat.
Reviews from drivers and owners of KamAZ-65115
Thanks to the design perfected over the years of production, the KamAZ 15-ton truck is distinguished by significant reliability, excellent maintainability and consumer characteristics that are optimal for operation in Russia and the CIS. The abundance of dealer and regular service centers in all regions of the former Soviet Union allows routine repairs and maintenance of any complexity to be carried out in a short time and relatively inexpensively. With the purchase of spare parts and consumables - filters, belts, brake pads, car bulbs, etc. - no problem at all. All this makes KamAZ-65115 a cost-effective, efficient and affordable dump truck. Another important operational factor is the ease of updating the vehicle fleet: the model is popular, and the domestic market always offers a huge selection of both new and used KamAZ 15-ton trucks.
Of course, the dump truck of this model is inferior in terms of loading capacity to the KamAZ-6520, but it wins in the purchase price and cost of ownership.
In addition, according to reviews from real owners, 15-ton dump trucks from the Kama Automobile Plant are significantly easier to operate, repair and maintain. In general, the vast majority of owners are satisfied with the car. Exactly “in general”: there are plenty of minor flaws in assembly and quality. But the cost of the KamAZ-65115 dump truck is much cheaper than its foreign counterparts. Some people describe the Cummins engine as capricious and unreliable. At the same time, there are many owners who have driven over two hundred thousand kilometers on it without a single problem and continue to use it. It is definitely more nimble and economical than the “native” KamAZ unit. The main thing is proper care, regular oil and filter changes on time. The dump truck's cross-country ability is in perfect order, as is its maneuverability. The platform is designed for 10-12 cubes, depending on how it is loaded - into the sides or with a “head”. The interior is quite comfortable for a car of this class. But the panel and shelf begin to rattle pretty quickly. Other shortcomings include: lack of crankcase protection (you have to make it yourself), poor quality of body painting.
The body begins to bloom with rust already in the first months of operation, and then the rust only increases, despite careful handling. The paint begins to peel off, plus the metal itself from which the body is welded is not of the best quality: dents regularly appear on it. Some owners criticize KamAZ's decision to hang the spare wheel on the frame at the rear: in bad road conditions, it begins to “rakes up” the soil. From the point of view of such people, it would be better to place the spare tire behind the cab. Moreover, there is a place for this. Some people moved the spare wheel from the frame to the place between the cab and the body on their own.
About the history of the KamAZ two-axle 4x2
When in the early 2000s, the Kama Automobile Plant presented new 4x2 trucks at a number of exhibitions and car shows, it was rightfully perceived as a completely new and quite promising project. Indeed, the company’s model range already included (and for a long time) two-axle cars in its assortment, including sports cars for rally raids. But at that time they were all all-wheel drive, and therefore the appearance of model 53605 in the lineup of KamAZ OJSC was considered as a new stage, an innovation in the development of the plant.
The project was initially developed taking into account the increased needs of city repair, utility services and repair and construction departments of housing and communal services. At that time, there was a shortage of vehicles of this kind: the old ones, of which a significant share were ZiLs, were “worn out” and no longer met the increased requirements for efficiency and environmental friendliness. And among the relatively new, inexpensive two-axle 4x2 trucks, only MAZ supplied them. And so in Naberezhnye Chelny they decided to compete with the Minsk Automobile Plant in this significant market segment.
Naturally, two-axle single-axle trucks are much better suited for working in cramped urban environments than three-axle or two-axle all-wheel drive trucks. Especially if they are also distinguished by compact overall dimensions. Two-axle 4x2 vehicles are more maneuverable and agile and, of course, consume less diesel fuel.
The KamAZ-536O5 chassis was the first to go into serial production - for the installation of bodies and superstructures for municipal and road maintenance purposes: garbage trucks, truck cranes, vacuum trucks, asphalt distributors, etc. It was followed into the “series” by the KamAZ-536O5 dump truck with a 4x2 wheel arrangement.
The project did not take off right away. For potential consumers, the new KamAZ development was initially a “dark horse”, while the same MAZ-5551 4x2 with the YaMZ-236M2 (180 hp) or YaMZ-236NE2 (230 hp) engine was already familiar and a proven model. And MAZ was cheaper (and is still cheaper than the similar KamAZ).
