The TZ-4K-14 minitractor is a compact agricultural machine developed by a Czech manufacturer. This model uses many elements from its predecessor (TZ-4K-10), but differs from it in many technical improvements and improvements. It is worth noting that the Czech minitractor is one of the first purchased by the Soviet Union in the 1970s. The technique was actively used in the construction of various facilities for the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. In practice, the car performed quite well, which ensured its great popularity in the territories of the USSR. Also in connection with this, the TZ-4K-14 was taken for the development of Soviet mini-tractors and in the late 1980s it introduced its version of the MA-6210 mini-tractor, which was produced in limited quantities.
The machine has a rotating fork through which the front and rear axles are connected. When turning, the mini-tractor axles rotate 45 degrees relative to each other. This solution made it possible to achieve excellent maneuverability, which made it possible to use the machine in rather cramped conditions, since the smallest turning radius is only 1900 millimeters. In order to ensure improved cross-country ability, the fork design provides for raising and lowering the axles by 11 degrees. The front and rear track widths can also be adjusted for this purpose. Initially, this figure is 700 millimeters, but can be expanded to 1000 millimeters.
The mini tractor uses a single-cylinder, two-stroke, air-cooled diesel power plant. The engine can operate in any conditions without overheating, since the air cooling system copes with its task perfectly, since the overall dimensions of the engine are quite small. The unit is started using an electric starter, but can also be started manually. The gearbox used has four reverse gears, both for forward and reverse movement. Each axle has a differential. The front axle differential has locking functions, since this axle is the driving axle in the model. The manufacturer added two independent braking systems to the mini-tractor, including a manual front brake and a foot-operated rear brake.
Purpose
During the Soviet Union, the TZ-4K-14 minitractor was used almost everywhere, in every field of activity. The equipment was very popular in construction, public utilities and agriculture. In construction, the tractor mainly carried out transportation of any cargo and materials, as well as leveling embankments. In rural farms, machinery was actively used for all types of work, as this made it possible to produce a very wide range of additional attachments. In public utilities, a mini-tractor was used mainly for clearing snow from some areas, but transportation of various loads should not be excluded.
Currently, this technique is also used, but for the most part only in greenhouses, vegetable gardens, farms and small rural farms. The great demand for the model is due not only to a wide selection of additional mounted and trailed units, but also to excellent performance indicators, the key of which are maneuverability and cross-country ability. The vehicle is capable of towing trailers weighing up to 1,500 kilograms. But the TZ-4K-14 mini-tractor turned out to be not very convenient when working with plows, since the articulated frame brings a lot of inconvenience when plowing the soil.
Electrical equipment
The electrical equipment system is made according to a single-wire circuit. The negative contact of the battery and consumers is attached to the tractor body. The on-board power supply voltage is 12 Volts. Electrical equipment of a mini tractor includes:
- Starter. An electric motor used to start the power unit;
- DC generator. Serves to power electrical equipment and charge the battery after starting the engine. The generator is connected to the electrical circuit in parallel with the battery and has a belt drive;
- Relay regulator. Necessary for adjusting the voltage supplied from the generator;
- Mass switch. Necessary for disconnecting the negative contact of the battery and the mini tractor body;
- Low and high beam headlights;
- Direction indicators;
- Stop signals;
- Parking lights;
- Egnition lock. Serves to control the electric starter.
IMPORTANT: The wiring diagram includes a socket for connecting trailer electrical equipment.
Attachments
The list of additional attachments that the TZ-4K-14 minitractor can use includes such units as:
- Mower.
- Bulldozer blade.
- Sweeping machine.
- Mounted cutter.
- Ripper.
- Reversible plow.
- Cultivator.
As for trailed equipment, the model can use a dump trailer.

Overview of the operation of the TZK-4 minitractor with a double-furrow plow
TZ-4K-14 is a Czech mini tractor, the production of which was discontinued in the mid-90s. last century. But the model turned out to be so successful that even now you can find the Czechoslovak “long-liver” TZ4K14 on private farms and in small agricultural enterprises in the territory of the former USSR.
The history of the appearance of the tractor in our country is connected with the 1980 Olympics. In those years, in Czechoslovakia everything was produced in small volumes and there was no need to worry about the quality of the products. To facilitate work at the Olympic venues, compact wheeled tractor equipment was purchased from the Agrostroj plant in Prostejov.
Today, the range of applications for mini tractors has become even wider. The range of attachments allows the use of such equipment not only in agriculture, but also in the municipal sector (snow removal, garbage removal), and in the construction industry (laying communications, transporting goods).

Mini tractor design
The tractor frame consists of two parts that are hingedly connected. When turning, the rear of the frame moves relative to the front. This design allows you to make a turn in an area with a minimum area. The tractor's power unit and gearbox are located on the front of the frame. The rear part is equipped with a linkage and an operator's seat.
Device Features
The mini tractor is suitable for performing a lot of different tasks in agriculture, public utilities and construction. This is explained by the following features:
- The equipment has excellent traction and coupling characteristics, which allows the machine to tow various types of tractor trolleys, designed for a load capacity of 600 kilograms or more, along dirt roads.
- Thanks to the presence of mounted and trailed equipment, this mini-tractor is capable of performing a lot of tasks, including plowing soil, sowing, processing plants, harvesting and transporting it to storage.
- Most repair work does not require special equipment, so owners can fix fairly complex failures and malfunctions of tractors themselves, using a standard set of tools.
In order to increase safety when traveling on public roads at night or in poor visibility conditions, the vehicle was equipped with some lighting and signaling equipment.
Reliability
The TZ-4K-14 minitractor is primarily famous for its reliability and trouble-free operation even when used in the most severe conditions. Each structural element has an increased working life, which guarantees long and trouble-free operation of the equipment.
Repair features
The model does not require difficult maintenance. This process can be divided into 2 stages:
Monthly maintenance (after 200 working hours).
- Day and weekly care
- Removing carbon deposits from the exhaust system muffler.
- Cleaning the fuel filter and, if necessary, replacing it.
- Changing the transmission system oil.
- Tightening the cylinder head bolts.
Semi-annual maintenance (after 1000 working hours).
- Checking bearing clearances.
- Cleaning the fuel tank.
- Cleaning the piston and piston rings or replacing them.
- Clutch adjustment.
- Replace tires to ensure even wear.
Advantages and disadvantages
The undying interest of Russian consumers in technology from the Czech Republic is due to a number of its important advantages.
- Excellent maintainability and high reliability. Despite the fact that the “youngest” Czech-made model is already more than 20 years old, the units are quite functional and are highly valued by farmers and utility workers.
- The small turning radius allows soil cultivation in large greenhouses and greenhouses, as well as in small summer cottages, without the risk of damaging neighboring plants.
- Excellent traction and coupling characteristics make it possible to tow tractor trailers in clay soils and off-road conditions.
- Thanks to the ability of tractors to be combined with many types of agricultural implements, Czech models effectively replace seeders, hillers, snow blowers and loaders.
- The presence of lighting and signaling equipment allows you to operate mini-tractors at any time of the day.
- The low cost, in comparison with analogues, is explained by the presence on the domestic market of exclusively used samples, the price of which varies from 65 to 220 thousand rubles.
- The operator's seat has the most sophisticated design, which allows you to easily operate the unit for long periods of time. The control levers are also very conveniently located, literally at hand.
The disadvantages of Czech technology include the low availability of spare parts and some inconveniences in using the plow. The latter are due to the design features of the frame, which has an articulated design. In addition, many owners complain about the lack of a cabin, which significantly limits the operation of the machine in rain and strong winds.
Owner reviews
- I purchased a TZ-4K-14 minitractor in used condition, however, after 9 months of hard work on the site, not a single serious failure or breakdown occurred. Of course, the lack of a roof was often annoying, but the production rate was the smallest; tractor drivers working on Belarusian models and YuMZ-6 were even sometimes envious.
- At the moment, this mini-tractor is being repaired due to transmission faults. We purchased it back in 1998, and the machine worked conscientiously for almost two decades. During the entire period of operation, the crankshaft was restored only once and the cylinder was bored during a major overhaul. The tires on the front axle were also changed and the repairs were supplemented by replacing the oil seals. An extremely reliable technique, it’s a pity that it was discontinued. Somewhere abroad these cars seem to be produced under a different name, but this model is not imported to us.
Machine operator's station
The minitractor is equipped with an open control post. The operator's seat is located on the rear semi-frame.
The machine is controlled by turning the steering wheel. The tractor steering is mechanical. The tractor and hydraulic system controls are located on the front of the frame. On the front panel there is a panel of switches and indicator lamps. They enable the operator to control the operation of systems and mechanisms.
REFERENCE: Controls are located close to the operator's seat. This eliminates the need to reach for elements while moving.
Advantages and disadvantages of production
Model TZ-4K-14 has obvious advantages:
- Sufficient towing and coupling parameters for towing trailers with a load capacity of up to 600 kilograms;
- A minimum set of sheds allows you to plow the soil, sow crops, care for plants, harvest crops, and transport cargo;
- Most repair work is carried out without the use of special equipment, so you can fix the problem yourself. In addition, spare parts are affordable and can be easily purchased in a specialized store.
There is no full service maintenance for the mini tractor and the range of spare parts is limited. This problem can be solved by using consumables from other similar units.
It is also worth paying attention to the following shortcomings of the machine:
- There is no independent power take-off shaft and safety arch;
- Small volume of the fuel tank, which reduces the autonomy of the unit;
- There are no ballast weights necessary to improve the adhesion of pneumatic wheels to the surface when plowing.
This is interesting: Characteristics of the powerful universal tractor Belarus MTZ-3522 - we explain in detail
The TZ 4K 14 tractor has a wide range of mounted implements
The Czech mini tractor can be combined with various types of mounted implements, including a dump trailer, a harrow mower, a plow, a brush, and a blade. A single-axle metal trailer is used to transport various loads weighing up to 1,000 kg. The trailer is equipped with a removable rear wall and can be tilted backwards, making it much easier to unload. The trailer has overall dimensions (l x w x h) 2,630 x 1,700 x 980 mm. The mower attached to the TZ 4K 14 is the best option in cases where it is not possible to use a conventional tractor with a side mower, for example on small plots, in parks or gardens.
A bulldozer blade is used to clear areas of snow or level the soil. The big advantage is the ability to quickly install/dismantle the blade on a mini tractor and easy control of the unit. The blade width is 1,000 mm and the rotation angle is 45°. A sweeper is used to clean sections of the road or other places from dust. The drive mechanism is protected against dust.
Another tool that can be mounted with a mini tractor is a mounted milling cutter. Its main purpose is the processing of dry clay and clay-silt plowing, mixing the soil with compost or manure, as well as loosening the soil in wide-row crops and removing weeds. The reversible plow is used for smooth plowing; its working width is 250 mm. The plow has a design that allows the layer of earth to be laid in one direction. It is recommended to use it on small, irregularly shaped areas. The plowing depth reaches 21 cm. The row spacing of fruit nurseries is processed using a ripper. The maximum loosening depth of the unit is 6-8 cm, and the working width is 85 cm.
The versatile, convenient and durable Czech-made mini tractor TZ 4K 14 is indispensable in cases where more powerful equipment cannot be used. Possessing a significant margin of safety and having a simple operating principle, the tractor will please its owner, because frequent breakdowns during operation are excluded. The price of TZ 4k14 is about 175,000 rubles, however, there are not many advertisements for the sale of these tractors.
Basic faults and solutions
Thanks to its simple design, the Deutz minitractor does not require any in-depth knowledge to carry out repairs, so even a beginner can independently carry out simple adjustments and carry out repair work. However, to repair it, original spare parts are required, which are practically absent on the Russian market, and those that are available are expensive. Equipment owners have to adapt and replace spare parts from other manufacturers.
Among the most common breakdowns of Czech tractors are the following:
- There is no transmission of torque by the clutch. To do this, you must:
- Adjust the pedal stroke;
- Replace/clean disks;
- Check and eliminate disc deformation.
- Attachment does not lift
- Check the amount of oil in the system;
- Turn on the pump;
- Check the operation of the safety valve.
- Poor brake performance
- Adjust the free play position of the brake pedal;
- Replace the brake pads.
- Transmission temperature increases
- Adjust the gear clearance;
- Add oil to the transmission or replace it with a higher quality one.
- Start does not turn on
- Check wires and contacts;
- Charge the battery;
- If a short circuit occurs, it is necessary to clean the commutator and replace the brushes;
- Adjust the travel of the magnetic switch.

Video review of a Czech mini tractor with a Slavia engine
Below is a video review of the work of the Czech mini tractor TZ-4k-14
Michael:
I can show off my Polish mini tractor TZ, which I inherited from my father and works as before. Some time ago I completely overhauled it and replaced the gearbox and some other small things. The gears shift smoothly and immediately, and it starts up perfectly. I plow 25 acres on it and I’m glad it’s such a convenient design.
Alexander:
My neighbor has a wheeled Deutz allis 9190-awd, and I bought myself a bush TZ of Polish origin. We compare at work all the time. This is not to say that I don’t repair it regularly! But much less than my neighbor. It is difficult to find original spare parts, but I have already gotten the hang of it and use analogues. The main thing that had to be changed was the crankshaft, I made the gearbox and changed the wheels because the tread had worn out.
Pros: powerful, functional.
Disadvantages: difficult to find spare parts.
User manual
The Czech TZ tractor is distinguished by high reliability, good quality components and mechanisms, economical fuel consumption of 210 g/l, and maintains stable operating parameters throughout the overhaul period declared by the manufacturer.
First start
The operating instructions' recommendations for break-in include careful and careful testing of all operating systems during the first 25-50 hours of operation. During this period, it is recommended to perform all work, avoiding increased loads, at reduced speeds.
After the recommended period, change the engine oil, transmission oil, engine oil filter, and perform other manipulations in accordance with the manual.
Maintenance
Maintenance of a Czech mini tractor comes down to the following simple steps:
- It is necessary to regularly clean the body of the minitractor from dust and oil stains.
- Monitor tire pressure.
- Every 50-100 hours of operation, adjust the clutch and brake pedals.
Upon completion of field work, conservation is carried out, namely:
- clean the tractor from dirt, dry it,
- drain oil and fuel,
- lubricate parts to prevent corrosion from forming,
- cover and place in a dry place.
It is operated safely thanks to the presence of signaling and lighting equipment.
Basic malfunctions and ways to eliminate them
Repair work on the TZ-4k-14 minitractor does not require special equipment, so even complex breakdowns can be repaired on your own. Much more problems arise due to the lack of full-fledged service and necessary spare parts; owners have to use components and consumables from similar tractor models.
Diagram of the mini tractor TZ-4k-14 Deutz
The clutch does not transmit torque:
- There is no free play of the pedal (it needs to be adjusted);
- The drive discs are worn out or have oil stains (they need to be replaced or cleaned);
- The discs on the splines are jamming (you should check their position and, if necessary, remove the jamming).
Attachment does not lift:
- The oil level in the hydraulic system has dropped below the minimum mark (add oil);
- The hydraulic pump is turned off (turn it on);
- The hydraulic safety valve is stuck (disassemble and clean the valve).
The brake does not work well:
- The free play of the pedal has increased (adjust its position);
- The brake disc or pad is worn out (replace the relevant parts).
Gearbox overheats:
- Small gear or bearing clearance (adjust);
- Lack of oil or its low quality (add oil that is suitable for this model to the required level);
Starter does not work:
- Broken or poor contact of the wire (solder or connect it);
- Weak battery charge (charge it);
- Short circuit (clean the commutator surface or replace the brushes);
- Poor contact of the magnetic switch (tighten the switch travel by 2-3 turns).
Currently, there are service centers engaged in servicing, selling TZ mini tractors after major and medium repairs, and selling spare parts.
Mower engine
The most important element of the mower design is the engine, characterized by a long service life and high build quality. Its power reaches 5 hp, which is enough to mow most types of grass. Its model identification number used to find parts is 1Z 22.
Fuel consumption
The design of the product provides for a fuel tank with a capacity of 5 liters. Low fuel consumption, achieved thanks to an economical engine, allows you to process up to 1 hectare of area without additional refueling, which makes the device incredibly convenient to use.
Important Do-it-yourself walk-behind tractor repair
A little history
The production of Czechoslovak mini-tractors exported to the USSR was carried out by the Agrostroj plant, whose production facilities were located in Prostejov. The company's earliest model was the TZ-4K 10 modification, which had an extended base, a 2 m long body and a Slavia 1D-80 engine with a power of 9 hp. With. Then they began to install on the tractors a 12-horsepower diesel engine with an air cooling system of the 1D-90TA brand, capable of starting either using an electric starter or manually.
The chassis and chassis also underwent some changes over time, as a result of which the base was shortened, the body was modified, and a hydraulic trailer appeared. The model was called TZ-4K 14. It was manufactured until the end of production.
For the first time, Czech technology appeared in the USSR on the eve of the Moscow Olympics. Then it was used to work at sports facilities. The units were liked by Soviet specialists and began to be actively purchased by agricultural enterprises and public utilities.
The production of mini-tractors ceased in the mid-90s of the last century, however, thanks to the highest quality and very successful design, a large number of long-lived units are still operating in the countries of the post-Soviet space.
The TZ-4K 14 model was taken as the basis for the development of the domestic version, and in the late 80s the first prototypes called MA-6210 rolled off the Tallex assembly line. However, the equipment was produced in very limited quantities, and after certain events its production was completely discontinued.
Description of the Czech tractor TZ-4K-14
The Czech tractor TZ-4K-14 is an all-wheel drive vehicle with a wheelbase on two axles. A foot mechanism is used as a brake for the rear axle, while braking for the front axle is carried out using a handle. The prototype for the development of the TZ-4K-14 was its predecessor, the TZ-4K-10, which had less power and was produced with various Slavia 1D80 fahr engines with an operating power of 9 hp. and 1D 90 TA with a power of 12 hp.
Mini tractor TZ-4K-14
A special feature of the Czech mini-tractor TZ-4K-14 is its minimum turning radius, which is 1.9 m. It is very easy to move on uneven terrain, because the design of the tractor is thought out in such a way that it allows you to follow the terrain, and the ground clearance is 37 cm. The weight of the unit is 870 kg, and the dimensions are 2.75 x 0.95 x 1.3 m. This compact unit can be used in narrow row spacing, as the track is adjustable from 70 cm to 1 m.
The manual transmission with reverse has 4 forward and 4 reverse speeds. This makes it easy to maneuver and control the machine without much difficulty. The mini tractor can be used on slopes up to 12 degrees.
Power point
The manufacturer equipped the tz 4k 14 tractor with a single-cylinder engine with a vertical cylinder arrangement.
Power plant characteristics:
- Type of fuel used – diesel;
- Cylinder volume – 660 cm3;
- Maximum crankshaft rotation speed – 2200 rpm;
- The piston stroke from top to bottom dead center is 10.4 centimeters;
- Working cylinder diameter – 9 cm;
- The maximum power of the power plant is 13 horsepower;
- Fuel consumption – 210 g/hp. for one hour of work;
- Installation weight 100 kg.
The motor is air cooled. The engine is cooled by a fan. The fan drive is belt driven from the crankshaft. The tractor power unit is started using an electric starter.
The electric starter is powered by a battery with a voltage of 12 Volts. When voltage is applied to the electric starter, the drive gear engages with the flywheel of the power plant. After the engine starts, the drive gear disengages automatically.
Working body
The main working body, the mower, was fingerless, segmented. The cutting apparatus consisted of a supporting beam, a segmented cutting blade, and a drive mechanism. On the sides of the beam there were shoes, with the help of which the height of grass mowing was adjusted.
The drive mechanism of the cutting apparatus was located in the housing. The assembly of the MF 70 mower with the working element was quite simple: The housing of the drive mechanism was put on the housing of the power take-off shaft, and the shaft itself was engaged with the drive mechanism. And the body of the working body was fixed with a locking pin.
Service
Czechoslovakian mini-tractors are quite unpretentious and do not require expensive maintenance
However, given that the average age of models exceeds 20 years, special attention should be paid to regular maintenance, which is recommended every 200 hours of operation. So, it is necessary to inspect the equipment weekly and remove carbon deposits from the exhaust pipe.
You also need to monitor the condition of the fuel filter and, if necessary, replace it on time. In addition, it is necessary to regularly change the oil in the transmission system and tighten the cylinder head bolts.
When using equipment intensively, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the tire tread and swap them for more even wear. Strict adherence to maintenance recommendations and operating instructions will ensure trouble-free operation of the mini-tractor and will also significantly extend its service life.
In the next video you will find recommendations for setting up the lubrication pump of the TZ-4K 14 mini-tractor.
