Not long ago, the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant began producing small-sized trucks with all-wheel drive UAZ Cargo (see photo). Its body design and technical characteristics are the same as those of the famous UAZ Patriot. But what are the advantages and disadvantages of this light-duty truck? This was found out with the help of a test drive of one of the samples, which was provided by the car plant.

Many people have been familiar with UAZ cars since the times of the Soviet Union. The plant in Ulyanovsk has been producing small-sized trucks with all-wheel drive for a long time. There is probably no person who is not familiar with the UAZ-3303 (“tadpole”) model. Although the car was produced for many years, its appearance and technical characteristics were not modernized. This is due to the high performance level, strength of the body and chassis, as well as simple maintenance and an affordable price.

Car exterior and interior

The truck is assembled on a frame chassis; in front there is an all-metal hood-type cab with hinged doors. The front lighting and bumper are unchanged from the UAZ Patriot SUV; plastic shields are provided on the edges of the front wheel arches.

The fuel tank is located under the platform, the neck is located to the side. To transport cargo, an all-metal flatbed body equipped with arches for tarpaulin is used. There are modifications with a closed van-type superstructure with rear hinged doors.

The cabin has separate seats with headrests, which are adjustable by distance from the engine shield and by the angle of the backrest. Between the seats there is a wide console with a folding armrest cover, under which there is a container for storing small items.

The instrument panel, column and steering wheel are unchanged from the off-road Patriot. The doors have electric windows. The early version of the UAZ-2360 used the cabin and interior from the UAZ-3160 Simbir off-road vehicle.

The New Cargo modification uses stamped wheels with 225/75 R16 tires; installation of cast parts at the factory is not provided.

The car body is painted with standard enamels; metallic paint is used for an additional fee.

The factory uses an electrically heated windshield (included in the basic equipment), and heated seats for the driver and passenger are provided. There is a socket for a radio in the instrument panel, and the speakers of the sound system are located in the doors.

What is UAZ Cargo

UAZ began production of a new type of small-sized truck in 2008. The serial name of the model is UAZ 23602. The truck has 3 different modifications:

• with open cargo compartment;
• with a closed cargo compartment;
• without cargo compartment (for trailer).

The vehicle is primarily designed for long-distance transportation of goods over difficult terrain and off-road. Its load capacity is 800 kg. Cargo is often purchased by enterprises specializing in cargo transportation, farms, and residents of rural areas. Thanks to its modern design, the truck has become widespread even in neighboring countries.

We present to your attention an overview of a car with a closed cargo compartment. The external contours of the UAZ 23603 are strongly reminiscent of the UAZ 3303. It is no secret that the new car inherited only the front part of the body from the UAZ Patriot.

Externally, the truck is almost completely similar to the previous generation models. Among the structural modifications is an increased wheelbase, which is 3 m. This made it possible to expand the volume of the cargo compartment of the UAZ Cargo.

Specifications

All Cargo modifications are equipped with a ladder-type frame on which towing hooks are attached. The front axle is mounted on a spring suspension with double-acting shock absorbers, and leaf springs are used at the rear.

To reduce speed, front disc brakes with a floating caliper are used; drum mechanisms are retained at the rear with automatic adjustment of the gap between the shoe and the drum. The machines are equipped with a hydraulic power steering mechanism with variable gain (depending on speed).

Weight and dimensions of the UAZ-2360 vehicle:

The later released New Cargo, based on the Patriot car, has comparable overall dimensions. The all-metal platform with folding rear and side sides has dimensions of 2470x1870 mm, the height with the installed awning is 1400 mm. The cargo compartment area is 4.62 m², the useful volume reaches 6.46 m³ (designed to transport 4 pallets of 800x1200 mm format).

Engine and transmission

The UAZ Cargo is equipped with an in-line 4-cylinder ZMZ-409-06 engine with a distributed fuel injection system and a catalytic exhaust gas converter. The engine has a displacement of 2693 cm³ and develops a power of 135 hp. With.

In city traffic, the engine consumes up to 18 liters of fuel. For refueling, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 92 or 95 is used.

An early modification of the UAZ-2360 burns 13.2 liters of gasoline per 100 km on the highway (according to the manufacturer), in the city the parameter reaches 16-19 liters (depending on the air temperature and driving mode). The fuel supply is stored in 2 metal containers, which are fixed along the side members (capacity 42.5 liters each).

UAZ load capacity

The indicator has a value of 725 kg. The rear suspension design with leaf springs is not designed to withstand overload. If the sheets are overweight, they bend in the opposite direction, which leads to breakage of the suspension elements.

The low weight of the cargo is criticized by car owners who compare the UAZ Cargo with its analog Niva-ViS, capable of carrying up to 1400 kg of cargo.
