Tuning UAZ Farmer
It was decided to prepare the UAZ Farmer, a well-worn UAZ that had driven along the roads, for fishing trips. Tuning the UAZ Farmer should be budget-friendly, so almost everything was done with your own hands, especially since, like all UAZs, the Farmer is the same designer for those people who are friends with welding and an angle grinder.

First of all, for the UAZ suspension lift, 7 cm spacers were made between the bridge and the spring.
I also made a 10 cm UAZ Farmer body lift with my own hands.

But when the suspension was working, the wheels still touched the arch and therefore the body of the UAZ Farmer was cut in a circle and welded with a profile.

The interior of the UAZ Farmer was stripped of mastic and old paint down to metal, painted with red lead, glued with noise and vibration insulation, and covered with corrugated aluminum. Now you don’t have to worry about getting into the cabin with muddy boots—everything is easy to clean and wash. And it just became more pleasant in the cabin.

The device of the UAZ clutch master cylinder
The main clutch for UAZ 3151, “Hanter”, Patriot with article number 420.469-1602300 has some differences, but not dramatic ones. It just has a tank installed, not a tube and an eye instead of a cylinder piston pusher fork. For “tadpoles” and “loaves” the article number is 420.3741-1602300.
It is quite possible to replace the necessary parts and assemble what you need. How the GTZ works is shown in the figure below.
The device shows how the free play of the clutch pedal is adjusted. To do this, you need to screw in or unscrew the pusher fork.
GCS cuffs consist of a ring and a so-called “mushroom” with a diameter of 22 mm.
Operation of the GVC
Briefly, the clutch operation looks like this:
- When the clutch pedal is depressed, the pusher moves the piston and the compensation hole closes.
- It pushes fluid into the system in front of it creating pressure.
- This pressure acts on the piston of the working cylinder, which pushes the fork through the rod.
- The fork, moving the release bearing, presses on the petals of the basket and moves the pressure plate away from the clutch disc.
The valve and plate play an important role during pumping. Even if the system is not pumped, it will still fill up. It is enough to fill in the liquid and unscrew the valve on the working cylinder. It will fill the system by gravity, this also applies to the brakes.
The liquid enters the cavity in front of the piston through the compensation hole through the valve into the line. Once everything is filled, the liquid will flow out through the valve. Here, the main thing is that the rod is not extended and the compensation hole is not blocked by the cuff.
When pumping, everything is a little different.
- When the piston moves forward, valve 19 is open.
- When it goes backwards, the valve is closed and a vacuum is created at the front.
- There are holes in the piston covered by plate 3. It moves away and opens the holes. Liquid flows from the cavity above the piston and the reservoir through the bypass hole into the discharged cavity in front of the piston. The cuff (fungus) allows it to leak.
- Having reached the locking ring, the piston stops, the spring presses the fungus and the plate. This is readiness for a new cycle.

Interior tuning
On a UAZ Farmer, interior tuning should begin by removing the factory interior trim and carrying out heat and sound insulation of the ceiling, walls, doors and bottom. All surfaces are covered with thin matte materials, and the bottom is additionally treated with a special mastic. It is better to fasten a durable, dark-colored fabric over the insulation that does not absorb dust and moisture.
After this you can set the following options:
- New comfortable seats with air suspension, heating and adjustment. It is better not to save money, but to immediately purchase leather-covered products.
- A dashboard with a monitor that functions as a navigator. The rounded edges of the panel are safe from injury.
- Removable casing of the power unit. The optimal solution is to attach a console to it for storing small items necessary on the road and at a rest stop.
- Ergonomic steering wheel. It is better to choose a mechanism with an articulated column and height adjustment. It is advisable to cover the wheel itself with leather or wool.
- Climate control system. This device will allow you to maintain a comfortable temperature in the cabin in any weather conditions.
- Radio with video playback function. Such a function will not be superfluous during stops and life in a camp.
- Shelf for personal belongings and documents. It would be better to make it out of plastic, so as not to weigh down the car, but to fix it on the rear wall.
After the modifications, driving a tuned UAZ will be much easier and more enjoyable.
Motorhome UAZ in Mongolian
Mongolian craftsmen never cease to amaze in the field of UAZ tuning.
It would seem that they have China nearby, remake various GEELY, CHERY, JAC, FAW and others there, but no, the love for Russian UAZs, and in particular for Loaves in the homeland of Genghis Khan, does not weaken. To confirm this, a motorhome based on a “tadpole” (UAZ-3303), made by Mongolian craftsmen.
Of course, the tuning could not but affect the outside of the car ( this is the east!
). In addition to the original grille trim, they also installed an overlay plastic bumper with large foglights, and replaced the headlights with LED ones with “angel eyes.”
In the cabin, of course, they got rid of the standard seats and installed more “plump”, foreign-made ones. The steering wheel was replaced with a more comfortable leather one. The instrument panel has been completely redone.
It seems to me that the Bukhanok cabin was designed specifically for the Mongols. Judge for yourself: for anyone over 170 cm tall, sitting here is not very comfortable, since visibility is greatly impaired. Because of this, it is difficult to find seats that do not increase the seating position in the car. And for short Mongolians this is just right!
The onboard platform was dismantled and a residential module was installed instead. The module has three windows on the left side and two on the right.
There is only one entrance door, but this is compensated by a large window from the cabin into the salon, so there is no feeling of claustrophobia.
Since there is no alcove here, only a single sleeping place could be placed in the front part, at the top.
Underneath there is a table and two chairs. In fact, this is a continuation of the cabin, because it is assumed that passengers will be in the seats while driving.
Next is a large leather sofa. Underneath there are drawers for clothes and things.

External tuning
It is not advisable to leave the side body unchanged, since this area can be used more productively. The best solution is to make an insulated booth with an expeditionary roof rack. To carry out external tuning of a UAZ Farmer with your own hands, all you need is a set of tools that are found in every garage.

Tuning technical parameters
Long hauls over rough terrain require the vehicle to have increased strength and reliability.
You can improve the technical characteristics of your car as follows:
- Reinforce the frame with additional pads. After tuning, the weight of the vehicle increases by several hundred kilograms.
- Equip the steering system with a hydraulic booster. This option will make it easier to drive in difficult road conditions.
- Increase the vehicle's ground clearance by installing special gaskets between the axles and springs. To increase the load capacity, install pneumatic cylinders on the rear axle, controlled from the cab.
- Replace the belt fan with 2 electrical analogues, activated by a sensor. This will provide better engine cooling when running at high speeds and low speeds. Improving air flow is achieved by making additional holes in the hood.
- Install a self-locking differential on the rear axle. This solution will greatly improve the maneuverability of the UAZ Farmer in wetlands and water-filled dirt roads.
- Replace standard shock absorbers with reliable and durable products from the Australian company Ironman. These devices are characterized by high strength, load-bearing capacity, combined with an instant response to vibrations of any amplitude.
To operate the car in winter, it is advisable to install electric heated windows and rear-view mirrors. Sliding windows will reduce the risk of glass being damaged by branches.

How to strengthen the body of a farmer UAZ
