Analogue of the truck in the third part
of Peterbilt 379
- a tractor produced in the USA from 1987 to 2007.
The same truck is depicted on the cover of the second part, and also appears in the video that accompanies the takeover of the trucking market. In Truckers 3 it is presented under the name Hercules Freedom
and appears as a completely different car: despite the impressive price tag, it does not show any special agility even with a 600 hp engine. However, the spectacular appearance of the automotive legend makes you forget about many of its shortcomings.
general description
The 379 Series trucks are the dream of many American drivers. The long hood, impressive radiator grille and bumper, massive mufflers and air filter housings, abundance of chrome, polished aluminum and stainless steel make the hearts of connoisseurs beat faster.
Vehicles carrying out local transport are equipped with a short 3x - local aluminum cab. The integral tail is made from the same material.
On long routes, tractors equipped with the Unibilt Cab Sleeper System operate. It allows you to attach any of several options for sleeping compartments to the standard cabin. Each of them is a fully equipped module with a length of 914, 1219 and 1600 mm with a low or high roof. The most comfortable of them are distinguished by their elegance and richness of interior design.
The driver's workplace is equipped with an air-suspended seat, a high backrest, folding armrests, three-point seat belts and mechanisms for spatially changing the position of the cushion and backrest.
As standard, small leaf springs are installed at the front and rear. In another combination, the rear axles are equipped with Air Leaf air suspension. The best ride smoothness is achieved when the front and each rear axle are suspended on four air cylinders, the air pressure in which is regulated by an electronic system. Gross weight of single vehicles - 14.5-35.4 tons, road trains - 36.3-72.6 tons
High-quality technical equipment is the basis of Peterbilt 379 reliability
The Peterbilt 379 model is characterized by good technical “stuffing” and a convenient location of “controls”. Large rear-view mirrors are responsible for safety, which provide a sufficient degree of control over the road already covered by the vehicle. In front of the truck's hood, the view is blocked by a windshield, which is equipped with a special visor, which increases the reliability of protecting the driver's eyes from blinding by bright sunlight. Both types of machines produced are equipped with several optical devices, which are manufactured in accordance with numerous international standards - they have positive lighting characteristics.
The 379 model, produced by Peterbilt, had a special brake system with a high-precision function. This made it possible to quickly stop a heavy vehicle in emergency situations on the road and avoid injuries and losses. Electronic security systems served as additional equipment and helped control unforeseen incidents. In addition, the location of the indicators on the dashboard was organized so that the main ones were always in sight of the driver.

Review[edit]
The largest highway truck sold by Peterbilt at its launch, the 379 came in two configurations: a 119-inch BBC (bumper-to-rear-cab length) and a long-hood for the 127-inch BBC. The 379 differs externally from the 359 in the use of an enlarged windshield (including horizontally mounted wipers); The 379 also introduced headlamp-mounted turn signals (moved from the fender), making rectangular headlights standard. [2]
The 379's cab design is similar to that of many conventional Peterbilt trucks produced since 1986 (except for the 587 and 579); it also shares its doors with the 362 and 372 cabover trucks.[3]
Transmission[edit]
Throughout its production, the 379 was equipped with the most powerful versions of the engines offered for Class 8 road cars. Some of the turbodiesel engines include Caterpillar 3176, C-11, C-12, C-13, C-15, C-16 and 3406- (B, C, E, P and EWS), Cummins Big Cam NTC. , N-14, ISM, ISX, ISMe5, ISXe5, Signature 600 and Detroit Diesel 60 series. Exploitation
The tractor withstands collisions well; even with maximum damage, the hood and doors do not open, and the windows do not break. It is also almost impossible to break headlights. However, it is quite expensive to maintain, and in the early stages of the game, any accident can hit your budget. However, with Freedom you can safely avoid emergency situations - the tractor is very stable and predictable even at speed.

Key technological features of the Peterbilt 379 model
There were several configuration options for the model in question. Currently, 379 model vehicles are used with Cummins ISX/ISM/ISL/ISC , as well as Caterpillar C15/C12/C10 . The first group has a power range from 225 to 565 hp, and the second category is characterized by values from 305 to 565 hp. In this case, transmissions can be either fully automatic or manual gearboxes, the speed range varies between 4 and 18.
A large number of options have arisen due to changes in the type of interaction with customers. Thus, since 1995, the company has been producing cars with the equipment required by the client. Due to the huge selection of components, there are simply no two identical 379s . Each of them is created for a specific client, his requirements, desires and capabilities. Even the external design became so diverse for the first time: many painting options and combinations of hanging decorative elements ensured a unique design. Therefore, each client had the opportunity to receive the only vehicle in the world, which at the same time belonged to the Peterbilt 379 model.
However, it is important to note that it was not only driving performance that influenced the widespread use of the tractor in America. In addition, it has a rich design with chrome parts, which is rarely seen on other types of specialized equipment. The style and elegance of the design is also carried into the cabin and bonnet - they are combined with ease of access to the engine compartment. Consequently, the processes of repair and routine maintenance are simplified and reduced in time.
The weight of the vehicle also varied and largely depended on the configuration: there were options weighing about 21 tons, but there were models weighing 35.4 tons. The total weight of the road train could reach just over 86 tons. Interestingly, the Peterbilt 379 car was so popular that it was later used as the basis for the production of special equipment - for example, dump trucks.
All of the above features of the truck, high reliability and the possibility of self-configuration in terms of units and main components, determined the fact of its popularity in the market of vehicles for transporting goods. At the moment, Peterbilt 379 cars continue to be sold, but only on the secondary market. They have a very long service life, so they are still in demand, despite the fact that they have long ceased to be produced.
Driver reviews of the Peterbilt 379 model
I had the opportunity to drive this model during my trip to the USA. The first thing that impressed me was the comfort and thoughtfulness of the interior along with the beautiful appearance. Unfortunately, we were not able to test the truck in extreme conditions in a short time, but I really enjoyed driving it, it was a very memorable experience. The 379 model is a truly huge car, so it can be quite difficult to turn around. That is why it is not suitable for driving on narrow roads with the need to turn: the sensations are similar to driving a train - you cannot deviate from the chosen route. At the same time, during design and production, we took care of visibility and control: there is a dead zone, but it is very small, and the hydraulic booster is capable of handling high levels of loads. Wear problems generally start with the brakes.
I was pleased with the torque of the engine and the presence of several axles - this ensures the ability not to get stuck in the mud and get moving even with a heavy load. At the same time, at average speed, fuel consumption is quite low: with very large tanks, you don’t have to think about refueling for a large amount of time. If the speed increases, the consumption increases more than if the load increases. The owner of the tractor said that the car is very reliable, but requires careful monitoring of the condition of the filters and clean diesel fuel. If the recommended oil is not available, ECF-1 can be used. Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to find recommended species in Russia – almost impossible. Thus, the main obstacle to the widespread use of the Peterbilt 379 truck is the lack of service stations: as a result, it is difficult to deal with problems with spare parts or electrical equipment. Therefore, unfortunately, there are very few Peterbilts in Russia at present.
